[Bug 612442] [NEW] Lucid - gdm does not crash, but flickers
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gdm My wife's using Lucid Lynx on an eMachine's T2798 with D845GVSR MB, 512MB RAM, 2.7GHz and a max video ram of 8MB (the motherboard doesn't have an AGP slot and no available PCI Video Card in our area). I believe GDM crashes due to the limited video memory, but previous installations of Ubuntu (Jaunty Jackalope since Karmic Koala won't install) worked fine. This is also a fresh install. What happens is, at very random times, the screen will just start to flicker regardless whether my wife's running a video-intensive applications or not. It's just very random. [Bug 360740] Re: Mute button not turning red
This isn't really Ubuntu's fault, since it's the driver itself that controls the light on the mute button/touch-switch. Theoretically, it is the original sound driver creator's fault for not making a proper driver for Linux users to use, and resorting to having the default audio drivers on Ubuntu to run the show. Nonetheless, it's about time that some of the small things like this were fixed. Ubuntu is stable and beats the heck out of Windows and Mac OSes. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: update-manager OS: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS When installing the flash installer for Ubuntu from this site: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ (APT for Ubuntu 9+) I got the following error from the update manager that said to include it in this error report. [Bug 612424] [NEW] 10.4 live cd not working on hp pavillion a1410n
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs The Ubuntu 10.4 LTS live cd is not working on my recently acquired HP pavillion a1410n. It doesn't run when I insert the disc even though the dvd drive has auto play enabled and when I reboot with the disc in the dvd drive my monitor always automatically goes into sleep mode. I've tried the disc on a laptop and it works just fine. So the problem is not the disc itself. I installed windows 7 right after acquiring the pc and had no problems with that install. it's not likely a problem with dual- boot since the pc had an XP/Vista dual-boot when I bought it. My only thought is to purchase the recovery cd's from Hp start over. There is a BIOS update available but only for the copy of XP that came with the system. Could the problem be with the system's BIOS? Or has anyone encountered this problem before and know any other way around this. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I've been using Ubuntu since 8.04 and have been a huge fan ever since. ** Affects: ubuntu-docs (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- 10.4 live cd not working on hp pavillion a1410n https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/612424 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 554172] Re: CUPS and other system services not starting at boot
To summarize the 190+ comments on this bug: 1) There is definitely a problem that needs fixing...no arguing this. 2) It has *something* to do with when lo0 is activated, i.e. a race condition 3) There are apparently a few hacky workarounds, but no fix 4) There is no concrete evidence that this is a kernel issue 5) There is no concrete evidence that this is an upstart issue This bug is officially "on the radar", so we will figure out what's causing the issue and address it in an SRU, but it's too late for 10.04.1. ** Package changed: linux (Ubuntu) => ubuntu ** Changed in: ubuntu Importance: Critical => High -- CUPS and other system services not starting at boot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/554172 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 224155] Re: removing git-daemon-run & runit do not stop services
Hi there, I was wondering if you were still able to replicate this problem in lucid? The current behaviour looks like it should result in the runsv processes remaining but the runsvdir process being killed. I've added a debdiff against the runit source package in maverick here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/runit/+bug/245728 It should fix the issues with runsv being killed, but I can't explain why runsvdir would still be active. [Bug 612409] [NEW] grub-install bricks systems if ran in a chroot jail

The original symptom was a blank screen, although the machine would boot and was accessible via ssh. First, I enabled KMS again to get back to the original failure (blank screen). Then I logged in via ssh and created an xorg.conf: sudo bash # service gdm stop # Xorg -configure # mv corg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf Now edit the nre xorg.conf file and change the line that says Driver "nvidia" to be Driver "nv" reboot ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Confirmed -- [Lucid] Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT doesn't recognize monitor resolutions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/611083 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 544540] Re: Ubuntu One Music Store Sync doesn't work
My purchases synchronized. They just didn't synchronize where I *expected* them to turn up. After an hour of grumbling and trying to figure out how to force the U1 client to synchronize (that's another thing — the 10.04 client *needs* a "Sync Now" button) I noticed in a Nautilus window that my available hard-drive space had dropped by an amount roughly equivalent to the space Ubuntu One's web interface said was being taken up by my store purchases. After digging around (and around ... and around ... and eventually realizing I was running in circles), I had the idea to see if the songs I had purchased had somehow managed to show up in Rhythmbox's library. They were, much to my surprise. I pulled up the Properties item for one of the songs, hit the Details tab and voila! My purchased songs *had* been synchronized to my laptop, just not to anyplace I expected to see them. Instead of being in ~/Ubuntu One/Purchased Music/ (which, based on the web interface, was where I logically expected to find them) or even ~/Music/ where one might also logically look, Ubuntu One and RhythmBox had happily buried them in ~/.local/share/ubuntuone/Purchased From Ubuntu One/ and not bothered to mention it to me. The code probably needs to be updated so that Ubuntu One music purchases turn up where people *expect* to find them (the Ubuntu One directory or even a subdirectory of the Music directory) rather than having songs buried in a hidden directory's sub-sub-subdirectory. -- Ubuntu One Music Store Sync doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/544540 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 612404] [NEW] xpdf crashes with segmentation fault
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xpdf xpdf crashes upon openning a pdf file. When started under gdb the segmentation fault is reported as: Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0x77743c9c in GlobalParams::findFontFile(GooString*, char**) () from /usr/lib/libpoppler.so.6 It is 100% reproducible with any pdf file. [Bug 502665] Re: cryptsetup: "c_swap_unformatted" still exists after system boot
The attached forces cryptdisks_start to wait until it is safe to rename the device. In my case, the delay is typically about one second. The attached is only a work-around, it seems to me that such logic would be better suited somewhere in dmsetup. [Bug 612310] Re: dmsetup rename sometimes creates new device name but does not remove original device name
When a device is being renamed, if it is currently in use, the new device name is created but old device name is not removed. The attached forces cryptdisks_start to wait until it is safe to rename the device. In my case, the delay is typically about one second. The attached is only a work-around, it seems to me that similar logic would be better suited somewhere in dmsetup. ** Patch added: "cryptdisks.functions.diff" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/52845284/cryptdisks.functions.diff -- dmsetup rename sometimes creates new device name but does not remove original device name https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/612310 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 382043] Re: Wireless connection drops out with access-point
The bug is gone in 10.04. I figured it was a timeout or some configuration value that got messed up.
