[Bug 323836] Re: [needs packaging] Package and use autopano-sift-c

2010-08-01 Thread Darxus
Bogdan: Because I forgot about it and haven't been checking things that
were assigned to me. I'll unassign myself. It should be really easy to
do. It won't make Lucid at this point, it would go in Maverick.

[Bug 612442] [NEW] Lucid - gdm does not crash, but flickers

2010-08-01 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

My wife's using Lucid Lynx on an eMachine's T2798 with D845GVSR MB,
512MB RAM, 2.7GHz and a max video ram of 8MB (the motherboard doesn't
have an AGP slot and no available PCI Video Card in our area).

I believe GDM crashes due to the limited video memory, but previous
installations of Ubuntu (Jaunty Jackalope since Karmic Koala won't
install) worked fine. This is also a fresh install.

What happens is, at very random times, the screen will just start to
flicker regardless whether my wife's running a video-intensive
applications or not. It's just very random.

[Bug 360740] Re: Mute button not turning red

2010-08-01 Thread vdude
This isn't really Ubuntu's fault, since it's the driver itself that
controls the light on the mute button/touch-switch. Theoretically, it is
the original sound driver creator's fault for not making a proper driver
for Linux users to use, and resorting to having the default audio
drivers on Ubuntu to run the show.

Nonetheless, it's about time that some of the small things like this
were fixed. Ubuntu is stable and beats the heck out of Windows and Mac
OSes. It's time that it supported hardware better than both as well,
instead of just being able to support everything halfway.

i was thinking of Gwibber's function as the system's native handler for
everything related to Social Broadcast.. That would not be a "branding" in
the sense of a logo for a particular app, rather a visual metaphor for
Social Broadcast, as discussed in a few places before already..

Maybe it's better to keep those two thoughts seperated neatly from each
other..

Re: [Bug 602945] Re: apt-cdrom fails due to inconsistent choice of mount points

Hi,

I'm now unable to reproduce this bug: on a fresh media-less 10.04
install apt-get can now install packages from my CDR, using '/cdrom' as
its mount point. Perhaps, something in 10.04.1 had a positive effect on
the issue.

So from my personal point of view, I think you can close this bug as
unreproducible.

Thanks,

John Pearson

[Bug 612432] [NEW] UEFI boot needs Experimental branch of Grub

2010-08-01 Thread Dana Goyette
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

As discussed here, when booting with grub-efi-amd64, the system fails to
find the initramfs image:

http://www.mail-archive.com/bug-g...@gnu.org/msg12623.html

It looks like the "experimental" branch of Grub makes this booting work,
at least to where it sees the initramfs image. Unfortunately, since I
had to install (mkimage) Grub manually, it broke in other ways that
don't happen with the packaged Grub.

Note that my system is an HP EliteBook 8530w.

Please sync procmail 3.22-19 (main) from Debian unstable (main).

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:

We can sync the package as debian has changed recommends to default-mta
and our default-mta is postfix

Changelog since current maverick version 3.22-18ubuntu1:

procmail (3.22-19) unstable; urgency=low

  * Adopted remaining code changes from procmail 3.23pre.
  * Changed MTA recommends to "default-mta | mail-transport-agent".
  * Changed mailstat to use [:alnum:] instead of 0-9A-Za-z.
Thanks to Juhan Kundla. Closes: #337048.
  * Document that the repetition operator is not supported.
Thanks to Justin Pryzby. Closes: #452723.
  * Switch to 3.0 (quilt) source format, 27 patches.

[Bug 612429] [NEW] update manager crashes upon Flash install and won't let me report bug. Error: Problem parsing dependency conflicts

2010-08-01 Thread Garrett Lang
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

OS: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS

When installing the flash installer for Ubuntu from this site:

http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ (APT for Ubuntu 9+)

I got the following error from the update manager that said to include
it in this error report.

'E:Problem parsing dependency Conflicts, E:Error occurred while
processing liblaunchpad-integration1.0-cil (NewVersion1), E:Problem with
MergeList /var/lib/dpkg/status, E:The package lists or status file could
not be parsed or opened.'

When I tried to report this error through help-->Report a problem, I got
the following error message: "could not determine the package or source
package name".

Thanks for any suggestions on how you can help me fix this issue. I
come from a technical background so can get my hands dirty, but haven't
kept my technical skills up to date so its been a while since I did any
programming -- and I'm new to linux in general.

[Bug 612424] [NEW] 10.4 live cd not working on hp pavillion a1410n

2010-08-01 Thread Cliff Miller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ubuntu-docs

The Ubuntu 10.4 LTS live cd is not working on my recently acquired HP
pavillion a1410n. It doesn't run when I insert the disc even though the
dvd drive has auto play enabled and when I reboot with the disc in the
dvd drive my monitor always automatically goes into sleep mode. I've
tried the disc on a laptop and it works just fine. So the problem is not
the disc itself. I installed windows 7 right after acquiring the pc and
had no problems with that install. it's not likely a problem with dual-
boot since the pc had an XP/Vista dual-boot when I bought it. My only
thought is to purchase the recovery cd's from Hp start over. There is a
BIOS update available but only for the copy of XP that came with the
system. Could the problem be with the system's BIOS? Or has anyone
encountered this problem before and know any other way around this. Any
help would be greatly appreciated as I've been using Ubuntu since 8.04
and have been a huge fan ever since.

[Bug 52396] Re: Could not get/set settings from/on resource.

2010-08-01 Thread Raymond
Soun d Architecture': Could not get/set settings from/on resource.
 [gstalsasink.c(666 ): set_hwparams (): /pipeline0/alsasink1:

This is because au88x0 driver require the period_size to be power of two

This is no enough for alsa-lib to refine the hardware parameters (buffer_size,

possible fix may be adding another constraint for buffer_bytes to help alsa-lib

[Bug 586210] Re: [R200] Crash and reboot during OpenGL line-drawing

2010-08-01 Thread Daniel Richard G.
Correction: This bug still occurs with 2.6.31 + Wings3D, although not
with the same vertex-move operation as previously described. Instead, it
seems to happen when I select an individual vertex. This is with other
graphics operations running visibly accelerated.

For now, I'm biting the bullet, and running Wings3D with
LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 }:-(

[Bug 612422] [NEW] Not all Launcher icon menus have a 'Keep in Launcher' option

that shouldn't happen, ever.
What *could* happen in certain circumstances is that the local
syncdaemon thinks (either correctly or in error) that the server
has a new version and at the same time that it has local
un-synchronized changes. In such a situation, the local file will be
renamed by adding .u1conflict to the filename. Could you confirm
whether you have .u1conflict files?

Whenever my laptop goes for hibernation, on wakeup touchpad doesn't work.
But the USB mouse connected to my pc works fine.

In the mouse preferences, it doesn't even show the touchpad options, as if the

By the way, there is no power on/off button for my touchpad and it should be

[Bug 554172] Re: CUPS and other system services not starting at boot

2010-08-01 Thread Robbie Williamson
To summarize the 190+ comments on this bug:
1) There is definitely a problem that needs fixing...no arguing this.
2) It has *something* to do with when lo0 is activated, i.e. a race condition
3) There are apparently a few hacky workarounds, but no fix
4) There is no concrete evidence that this is a kernel issue
5) There is no concrete evidence that this is an upstart issue

This bug is officially "on the radar", so we will figure out what's
causing the issue and address it in an SRU, but it's too late for
10.04.1.

[Bug 224155] Re: removing git-daemon-run & runit do not stop services

2010-08-01 Thread Francis Russell
Hi there,

I was wondering if you were still able to replicate this problem in
lucid? The current behaviour looks like it should result in the runsv
processes remaining but the runsvdir process being killed.

I've added a debdiff against the runit source package in maverick here:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/runit/+bug/245728

It should fix the issues with runsv being killed, but I can't explain
why runsvdir would still be active. Killing runsvdir is handled by
upstart itself.

I've added a debdiff that should fix this issue here:

It's against the runit source package in maverick. Can you confirm that
the runsvdir process itself was still active in single user mode? The
current package behaviour should have resulted in runsvdir being killed
and not respawning, but the runsv processes and the services they were
supervising still remaining alive. Any testing or feedback would be
appreciated.

[Bug 612409] [NEW] grub-install bricks systems if ran in a chroot jail

2010-08-01 Thread Joshua
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

(yes, package not installed, I removed it after it bricked my system)

Due to incessent boot and driver issues I converted my ubuntu system to
run in a chroot jail.

the next apt-get dist-upgrade bricked my system by installing grub on
the host drive.

Normally you would think, ok it boots the guest kernel and this can be
fixed from within.

However, in this case, / wasn't the root of any partition so it could
not boot.

Since grub-install was root, it could have checked for this
straightforwardly:

int check_for_root()
{
int fd1, fd2;
struct stat st1, st2;
fd1 = open(".", O_RDONLY, 0);
chdir("/");
if (chroot("/etc")) return 3;
stat(".", &st1);
stat("..", &st2);
if (st1.st_dev == st2.st_dev) {
if (st1.st_ino == st2.st_ino)
return 2; /* REAL ROOT */
return 0; /* CHROOT */
}
return 1; /* CHROOT ON MOUNTPOINT (probably safe to run bootloader) */
}

[Bug 611083] Re: [Lucid] Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT doesn't recognize monitor resolutions

2010-08-01 Thread Steve Conklin
Workaround found with help from Chris Halse Rogers:

This was failing back to VESA, because I had disabled KMS.
I had done that in an effort to fix a blank screen on boot.

The original symptom was a blank screen, although the machine would boot
and was accessible via ssh.

First, I enabled KMS again to get back to the original failure (blank screen).
Then I logged in via ssh and created an xorg.conf:

sudo bash
# service gdm stop
# Xorg -configure
# mv corg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Now edit the nre xorg.conf file and change the line that says
Driver "nvidia"
to be
Driver "nv"

reboot

[Bug 544540] Re: Ubuntu One Music Store Sync doesn't work

2010-08-01 Thread Tom Kopacz
My purchases synchronized. They just didn't synchronize where I
*expected* them to turn up.

After an hour of grumbling and trying to figure out how to force the U1
client to synchronize (that's another thing — the 10.04 client *needs* a
"Sync Now" button) I noticed in a Nautilus window that my available
hard-drive space had dropped by an amount roughly equivalent to the
space Ubuntu One's web interface said was being taken up by my store
purchases. After digging around (and around ... and around ... and
eventually realizing I was running in circles), I had the idea to see if
the songs I had purchased had somehow managed to show up in Rhythmbox's
library. They were, much to my surprise. I pulled up the Properties item
for one of the songs, hit the Details tab and voila! My purchased songs
*had* been synchronized to my laptop, just not to anyplace I expected to
see them.

Instead of being in ~/Ubuntu One/Purchased Music/ (which, based on the
web interface, was where I logically expected to find them) or even
~/Music/ where one might also logically look, Ubuntu One and RhythmBox
had happily buried them in ~/.local/share/ubuntuone/Purchased From
Ubuntu One/ and not bothered to mention it to me.

The code probably needs to be updated so that Ubuntu One music purchases
turn up where people *expect* to find them (the Ubuntu One directory or
even a subdirectory of the Music directory) rather than having songs
buried in a hidden directory's sub-sub-subdirectory.

[Bug 502665] Re: cryptsetup: "c_swap_unformatted" still exists after system boot

2010-08-01 Thread Daniel Kauffman
The attached forces cryptdisks_start to wait until it is safe to rename
the device. In my case, the delay is typically about one second.

The attached is only a work-around, it seems to me that such logic would
be better suited somewhere in dmsetup. See bug 612310 comment #2.
