[Bug 375371] Re: MySQL must not use /tmp
So, now that some time has passed and I've been able to think about this some, I think we should relax the apparmor profile back to the regulr tmpdir abstraction. YES it would be more secure to be able to say you can't create files even if you want to because apparmor is restricting users. But its going to break *a lot* of peoples' applications. LOAD DATA INFILE is a really terrible way to get data into mysql (at least use LOCAL!) but people still do it. SELECT INTO OUTFILE is also a really flawed way to extract data from mysql, but people do it anyway. The added problem of having to change all test suites that start their own mysqld instance, just so they can create their isolated test database in the system tmpdir, raises a red flag. These test suites should strive to run things as close to reality as possible. If we copy mysqld out of its normal location, we're getting around *all* of the apparmor protections, and so we're bypassing some other things that might go wrong when run against the real mysqld. So, how about we just move tmpdir to /var/tmp/mysql, but leave the apparmor profile as is? -- MySQL must not use /tmp https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/375371 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mysql-dfsg-5.1 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 663481] Re: JDBC: statement.setBinaryStream fails iff mysql logging is disabled
Yes, there are only two statements failing: update rpzone set data=?, protocol_version=33 where zone_id='int_semos_tavern_0'; and update opobject set data=?, protocol_version=33 where object_id=12 They fail every time with different values. All other statements (selects, updates, inserts) work without problems. There is a batch insert using a prepared statement into the npcs table. So prepared statement work, too. What is unique about those two failing queries is that they both use statement.setBinaryStream. The tables are defined as: mysql show fields from rpobject; +--+-+--+-+-++ | Field| Type| Null | Key | Default | Extra | +--+-+--+-+-++ | object_id| int(11) | NO | PRI | NULL| auto_increment | | data | blob| YES | | NULL|| | protocol_version | int(11) | YES | | NULL|| +--+-+--+-+-++ 3 rows in set (0.00 sec) mysql show fields from rpzone; +--+-+--+-+-+---+ | Field| Type| Null | Key | Default | Extra | +--+-+--+-+-+---+ | zone_id | varchar(32) | NO | PRI | NULL| | | data | blob| YES | | NULL| | | protocol_version | int(11) | YES | | NULL| | +--+-+--+-+-+---+ 3 rows in set (0.00 sec) They are the only tables with blob fields. ** Attachment added: mysql-good.log https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mysql-5.1/+bug/663481/+attachment/1703472/+files/mysql.log -- JDBC: statement.setBinaryStream fails iff mysql logging is disabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/663481 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mysql-5.1 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 663672] Re: won't mount NFS mounts with space in the name
From my poking around, it appears the bug will be in both this package, and nfs-common. showmount's output doesn't allow for parsing as it uses spaces to separate the fields (exportname and the ipaddress of who can mount it). Ideally it needs to use a : between the fields not whitespace. If showmount is modified, then auto.net will also need to be modified. Maybe another switch can be added to showmount that outputs parsable output. e.g. $ showmount -e ubuntu Export list for ubuntu: /mnt/DVD_rip 192.168.8.0/16 becomes $ showmount -m -e ubuntu Export list for ubuntu: /mnt/DVD_rip:192.168.8.0/16 and the korby mount options become $ showmount -e korby Export list for korby: /Qweb: /Qusb: /Qrecordings: /Qmultimedia; /Qdownload: /Public: /Photos: /Network Recycle Bin 4: /Network Recycle Bin 3: /Network Recycle Bin 1: /Media: /Documents: /DVD_rip: As you can see, the output of showmount varies depending on the server. Korby doesn't give the second field that shows what ip's can mount it. [Bug 647270] Re: package fglrx 2:8.723.1-0ubuntu5 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
OK, I'm now on 10.10 and this issue appears to have been resolved ultimately. I believe the issue is that my graphics card probably never should have existed in our plane of reality. Even under Windows driver support for it was nigh nonexistent, so I suppose I should not have been so surprised by its absence in Linux as well. ASUS AH3650 SILENT/HTDI/512M Radeon HD 3650 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X HDCP Ready Video Card When this card came out pretty much everyone in their right mind had switched to motherboards with PCI Express slots. All of ATi/AMDs drivers for this range of chipsets presume a PCI Express installation. But someone at either ASUS or SAPPHIRE, possibly both as they each offer a version of this graphics card, came up with the brilliant idea of offering this as an AGP card for those such as myself who had aging hardware that just needed a good graphical kick in the pants. I was happy to grab it as a replacement for my old AIW Radeon 8500DV. But alas, it was never quite what I expected. So I've ordered new hardware and will be putting together a new system within the next week as my primary Ubuntu workstation. Once that's done this system will be relegated to file serving duty using FreeNAS or something instead. Ultimately fglrx doesn't like this graphics card and neither does anything else. [Bug 396015] Re: Invalid range for meters
I would venture the argument that a logarithmic scale would be the best way to approach this. The autoadjusting linear scale looks pretty, but does little to convey useful information as to actual utilization or throughput and is such just plain confusing. I think most users are probably interested in getting an idea as to the throughput of the network or disk. Setting maximums specific to machine could make a pretty graph, but it also involves hidden differences in scale from machine to machine. Plus, it would be dead easy to implement. -- Invalid range for meters https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/396015 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 663019] Re: pulseaudio fails to start if ~/.pulse/default.pa exists
Ok, thank you for explaining that. It's a very unexpected way of operation. I'm sure it's going to catch out other people in the future. People think of it as a configuration file, but it is rather a script. I think that could be the gotcha. I wonder why doesn't the pulseaudio documentation say anything at all about it. Could you pass this upstream to ask that a few words of explanation be added in the pa docs? Ok, but could you then explain where you would look, and what the text would look like to give you that information? It would be good for me to know where users are looking for information. Meanwhile, in my good faith attempt to answer the request for more information in this report, it somehow broke my package system as described in my previous two comments. Hmm, I'm not an expert in that area, but I think running sudo apt-get with the --fix-broken flag, e g sudo apt-get dist-upgrade --fix-broken might help. Or it might tell you what's wrong and what to do about it. -- pulseaudio fails to start if ~/.pulse/default.pa exists https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/663019 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 663119] Re: Unneeded items in System Preferences
The settings and preferences is being given a makeover as part of GNOME 3, for its new control center : http://live.gnome.org/Design/SystemSettings A library is available for developers wishing to implement new Settings Panels. If anyone is an app maintainer, they should look into porting the setting to the new panel api. This is a major task and not a simple change, Hence marking as Invalid for papercuts. I dont expect any changes from an Ubuntu desktop discussion either. Some of the items are there on purpose and intended, eg: Broadcast [Gwibber] preferences ** Changed in: hundredpapercuts Status: New = Invalid ** Changed in: ubuntuone-control-panel Status: New = Invalid -- Unneeded items in System Preferences https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/663119 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
