[Bug 782566] Re: Cannot install libvtk5-dev - broken dependencies

2011-06-05 Thread Toby Smithe
Well, isn't that intriguing. God knows where that came from... (Is there
any way to check my entire dpkg list to see if I have any other odd
packages?)

libmysqlclient16:
  Installed: 7.0.9-1
  Candidate: 7.0.9-1
  Version table:
 *** 7.0.9-1 0
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 5.1.54-1ubuntu4 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ natty/main amd64 Packages

I downgraded to the archive version, and everything is fine now. Thanks!

[Bug 780657] Re: FreeBSD Hangs on Boot

2011-06-05 Thread Falk Nisius
Yes it looks like the same.

There is a comment on FreeBSD ACPI Mailing List for AMD CPUs, where the
CPU Turbo Mode freeze native BSD Systems. Perhaps that correspondends
with this bug, because it would first recognized on AMD Systems.

If you prevent the boot menu of FreeBSD the BSD guests runs without any
problems, or you are fast enough to hit the option or enter before the
issue comes, than also BSD runs fine as KVM guest.

[Bug 793115] [NEW] openssh in natty breaks monkeysphere

2011-06-05 Thread Christian Juner
Public bug reported:

Monkeysphere allows you to store your ssh keys in your gpg key.
`monkeysphere s` should export your ssh key to the ssh-agent. This does
not work in natty because of a change introduced in openssh (`ssh-add
-l` lists nothing).

The bug is already fixed in Debian (see http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=614897). Suggested fix: pull patch / current
openssh version from Debian.

I have verified that the version in Debian built on my machine fixes the
bug for me.

[Blueprint server-o-windows-paravirtual-drivers] Packaging of Windows Guest Paravirtual Drivers

2011-06-05 Thread mahmoh
Blueprint changed by mahmoh:

Whiteboard changed:
  Problems:

  - PV Drivers cannot be installed on an exhisting or pre-installed Win VM
  - Red Hat PV Drivers are signed and allow install on exhisting guests,
drivers must be signed to be installed (initial) for 2008/Win 7
  - Signed drivers can be installed but are not supported by Microsoft unless
WHQLed (MS Certiified and couter-signed)
  - RH owns copyright, and while it remains GPL2, they could fork it any time,
leaving us responsible for bugfixes.

  == Questions ==
  - Is there an outside source for these drivers?
  - WHQL support boundries?
  - Who will own/maintain and run the certification tests on LTS releases the
drivers once signed/WHQLed?
  - Partner or Multiverse

  == Drivers ==
  - SCSI (2x/3x speed increase)
  - Network (decrease latency but may be flaky)
  - Serial (used?)
  - Balloon (unknown/untested)

  Priorities:
  1) SCSI, 2) Network (if not flaky), 3) Baloon, 4) Serial,
  1) 2008 R2 SP1/Win 7, 2) everything else

  Work Items:
[ahs3] Build the latest drivers from the latest source: TODO
[markashtonb] Find out if we want to sign, WHQL, support (possibly code
updates), Logo, assign build/test responsibilities for driver updates/LTS
releases: TODO
- [mahmoh] Get input on release(s) to certify from hallyn (target latest LTS +
latest Natty): TODO
+ [mahmoh] Get input on release(s) to certify from hallyn (target latest LTS +
latest Natty): DONE
+ - per hallyn, 10.04.02 and 11.04 64 bit server releases (ISOs, no updates,
June) - should be good
[mahmoh] Test the drivers as possible - 1) 2008 R2/SCSI on LTS, 2) Natty? :
TODO
Compare driver performance to existing WHQLed performance (wishlist): TODO

Dan thanks for the feedback! Its good to hear you were able to resurrect

I agree that even though there probably is a bug somewhere, isolating it
will be terribly difficult.

Re: [Bug 791325] Re: NVIDIA disappearing title bar on Ubuntu 11.04

2011-06-05 Thread Ilan Tal
Hi Fabio,
If you look at the link in the FAQ

http://www.pendrivelinux.com/ubuntu-desktop-effects-fixing-the-missing-
titlebar/

you will see that missing title bars has been around since Ubuntu 7.04 and
that it is a nvidia problem, not a Java problem. Java manages to trigger the
problem when it closes a window but Java isn't causing the problem.

In the above link they talk of changing the resolution size, which isn't the
case here. The proposed fix does help and I used it, but it doesn't solve
the problem.

If I could somehow try the experimental version, I would certainly check it
to see if there is an improvement. I've got Ubuntu 11.04 running on both my
desktop as well as my laptop and I see the problem on both systems.
Interestingly Unity-2D seems to help to the point where in Unity-2D I have
not yet seen the problem. Since Unity-2D doesn't use the nvidia driver, this
is another strong indication that the problem is with the nvidia driver, and
certainly not with Java.

Ilan

[Bug 308994] Re: package libpam-modules 1.0.1-4ubuntu5.4 failed to install/upgrade: pakken libpam-modules ikke klar til konfiguration

2011-06-05 Thread Steve Langasek
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and help to improve
Ubuntu.

The error message in question points to a generic problem in the package
manager, not a bug in the pam package itself. A number of bugs of this
sort have been fixed in the time since this bug was reported, so this is
probably one of them. I am therefore closing this report. If you
encounter any other bugs when using Ubuntu, please continue to report
them.

[Bug 793030] [NEW] Framebuffer with gfxpayload=1024x768x16 results in white screen on PCI S3 card

2011-06-05 Thread Arie Skliarouk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

Framebuffer with default gfxpayload=1024x768x16 results in white screen
on an old PCI S3 Inc. 86c775/86c785 [Trio 64V2/DX or /GX] (rev 06)
video card.

The dmesg had following lines:
Jun 5 07:42:20 mf kernel: [7.967371] Console: switching to colour frame
buffer device 80x30
Jun 5 07:42:20 mf kernel: [7.979176] fb0: S3 Trio64V2/DX on :04:00.0,
1 MB RAM, 60 MHz MCLK
Jun 5 07:42:20 mf kernel: [8.001207] fb0: not enough framebuffer memory
(1200 kB requested , 1024 kB available)

I had to use gfxpayload=640x480x32 to get normal 80x24 resolution with the
following lines in the dmesg:
Jun 5 08:51:24 mf kernel: [1.683731] efifb: framebuffer at 0xa6d60, mapped
to 0x880a6d60, using 56k, total 64k
Jun 5 08:51:24 mf kernel: [1.683734] efifb: mode is 640x350x1,
linelength=80, pages=1
Jun 5 08:51:24 mf kernel: [1.683735] efifb: scrolling: redraw
Jun 5 08:51:24 mf kernel: [1.683738] efifb: Truecolor: size=8:8:8:8,
shift=24:16:8:0
Jun 5 08:51:24 mf kernel: [1.685028] Console: switching to colour frame
buffer device 80x43
Jun 5 08:51:24 mf kernel: [1.686260] fb0: EFI VGA frame buffer device

IMHO in case failures the framebuffer code should automatically fallback
to lower resolution/color depth mode.

The distribution is ubuntu 11.04, kernel 2.6.38-8-server amd64.

Re: [Bug 697675] Re: crash during folder move exchange-this_computer

2011-06-05 Thread indium
Dear Pedro,

we have moved to exchange 2010, so I cannot reproduce this bug anymore.
Please close it indeed.

On 02/06/11 22:14, Pedro Villavicencio wrote:
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
 apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open
the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash
is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't
allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
 /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 779307] Re: [1015PEM, Realtek ALC269VB, Green Headphone Out, Right] No sound at all. Sound does come out of speakers, as if headphones were not inserted.

2011-06-05 Thread blurry
Confirmed also happening on Toshiba Satellite M640 with the same sound
chipset. Jack audio programs pointing to the ALSA driver do not work
for headphones but will for analog speakers, but only if sound out is
set to speakers and headphones are unplugged. If sound out is set to
analog output (which should be for speakers or for headphones), sound
does not come out of speakers with headphones unplugged.

[Bug 735171] Re: driver ath9k is too slow or not responding

2011-06-05 Thread Michele Costantino Soccio
I enabled proposed repository and installed the new kernel:

$ uname -a
Linux maggie 2.6.38-9-generic #43-Ubuntu SMP Thu Apr 28 15:23:06 UTC 2011
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

The problem is not solved, although the situation has significantly improved in
both speed and stability.
The issue, however, remains:
# Internet download speed is limited if compared to a wired connection.
Response time is visually slower and downloads won't go faster than 600KB/s
without hanging.
# the driver is not completely stable yet. Downloading big files, for instance
a Ubuntu ISO using torrent, will hang the connection. In that case I have to
disconnect and reconnect.
# the computer runs much hotter. A video call on Skype will make the internal
temperature increase by 4-5 degrees if compared to the same call using a wire.
My hardware encryption is ON.

[Bug 776345] Re: Ubuntu 11.04 blank screen on boot

2011-06-05 Thread ManuPeng
The problem finally got me too after I've updated my system yesterday.
Just the regular update, no upgrade, and now my computer doesn't show
any BIOS screen, any GRUB screen oder login screen anymore.

It basically shows absolutely nothing until I get a weird greenish
screen (picture a screen filled with green tildes) and a bigger greenish
square in the middle that moves as I move the mouse (I guess it's
supposed to be the cursor). Ctrl+Alt+F1 doesn't work so no luck
accessing a console, restarting X doesn't work either.

Since I don't get any other screen, I can't even boot from a live CD as
I don't know when I get the boot selection menu (I'm blind) and even
then, I wouldn't know which choice the CD would be. So yeah, my computer
is basically wrecked for now. I know it's software because if I
unplug/plug the DVI cable (nVidia GFX) a few times or long-press the
power button, I get the Ubuntu logo and sometimes some console output on
the green tildes for a few seconds before it shuts down.

It beats me how a software update could butcher my computer all the way
to the BIOS but the worst is: I can't even use a live CD or install
another distro (too many let-downs with Ubuntu lately). Even if Ubuntu
proposed an update to fix this, I couldn't even find the update manager
and install it, that's how broken it is.

[Bug 793042] [NEW] greater changed to ellipsis in hungarian layout

2011-06-05 Thread u-foka
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xkeyboard-config

Hy!

Since I upgraded to natty, the greater symbol changed to the ellipsis
symbol on the period key, what I consider as a bug as I and many others
I know use that key the old way..

There are less / greater keys on Hungarian layout also on í and y
keys but these located far from each other on many stupid laptop
keyboards (the í key often moved to the right side of the keyboard) so
it's more comfortable to use the other two (m and .)

So please roll back this change!

https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/793044/+attachment/2155407/+files/unity-2d-places-terminal-log.txt

** Visibility changed to: Public

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: unity-2d

This is bug 791213, with a better stack trace (for all threads), and
possibly useful console messages. I produced this by installing all the
debug packages providing symbols referenced in Didier Roche's manual
  trace (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-
2d/+bug/791213/comments/2), after Cristian Aravena Romero's pointed out
how that trace was incomplete (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
  /unity-2d/+bug/791213/comments/5).

The trace here is the best I was able to produce (using binary
packages), and is more complete than Didier Roche's manual trace, but
this trace is still not perfect. I think some information may be
destroyed by stack corruption every time this crash occurs. Most
- notably, the following line appears in Didier Roche's manual trace, and
- a corresponding line appears in this trace as well:
+ notably, the line

- #44 0x01c6b2d9 in ?? ()
+ #44 0x01c6b2d9 in ?? ()
+
+ appears in Didier Roche's manual trace, and the corresponding line

+ #44 0x063f92d9 in ?? ()
+
+ appears in the trace here.

To produce this, I ran unity-2d-places manually by opening a Terminal
window and running the command unity-2d-places (without the quotes).
The following messages were printed immediately:

[Bug 791213] Re: unity-2d-places crashed with SIGSEGV in QMetaObject::metacall()

2011-06-05 Thread Eliah Kagan
Using the information about missing symbols furnished by Didier Roche's
trace, I just installed all the relevant debug symbol packages and ran
unity-2d-places from the Terminal. In this way, I created duplicate bug
793044, which contains a considerably more complete stack trace (for all
threads), and also possibly relevant console messages.

For those of you who are only interested in looking at the stack trace:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-2d/+bug/793044/+attachment/2155414/+files/Stacktrace.txt
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-2d/+bug/793044/+attachment/2155415/+files/ThreadStacktrace.txt

For more details, see bug 793044 itself.

[Bug 560180] Re: [SRU] Wacom buttons cause mouse to move to upper left corner and click.

2011-06-05 Thread Kay
For me the buttons of the tablet show similar problems:
- at the beginning of a clean session, without having used the stylus at all, I
get the same result as klerfayt with the stylus not on the tablet

- the first time I use stylus (continuously), to position the curser
correctly, the scroll wheel and the buttons seem to work correctly, i.e.
no flickering for me

- after having lifted the stylus (the first time after login), the
buttons and the scroll wheel stop working completely

I am using a graphire4 (CTE-640)

[Bug 749986] Re: Resizing LO window from bottom right brings up pop-up and undesirable effects

2011-06-05 Thread Renzo Bagnati
As a temporary workaround, the resize grips in libreoffice can be
disabled by using a custom gtkrc file and calling it from the command
line. For example, create a .gtkrc-2.0__libreoffice file in your home
directory, with the following content:

style default-style
{
  GtkWindow::resize-grip-height = 0
  GtkWindow::resize-grip-width = 0
}

class GtkWidget style default-style

and then launch libreoffice writer (or another component) with the command:
GTK2_RC_FILES=.gtkrc-2.0__libreoffice libreoffice -writer

This disables the resize grips, but only works from the command line.
To make it work for the gui launchers we have to modify all the libreoffice
.desktop files.
I have written a shell script to do this (to be run with sudo). It must also be
run after every upgrade of libreoffice packages or appropriately copied to
/etc/rc.local, if you prefer.
The script makes backup copies of the original .desktop files, in the case
something goes wrong.
It works for me, but it should be probably tested by someone else.

I never tried minimizing and restoring the windows, but it works! Your

But it would still be nice to fix this properly. Thanks elclanrs for the

[Bug 145523] Re: umountnfs should umount dependent dirs

2011-06-05 Thread Toni Spets
The usual situation I have is that I have mounted a network filesystem
and over that mounted a CD-ROM image using a loop device. If I forget to
unmount the loop device before I shutdown or reboot the system will hang
at unmounting for a long time because of the order of unmount (nfs
before loop).

To fix this issue directly, all loop devices should be unmounted first.

[Bug 793055] [NEW] Umlauts missing in several Gnome Applications

2011-06-05 Thread guerda
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-shell

I installed gnome-shell and gnome-themes-standard via the gnome3 ppa [1] and
it's fantastic, really good!
There's only one problem, I face with gnome-shell on amd64 and i386. There are
no umlauts in several gnome applications, e.g. gnome-terminal and all dialoges
of update-manager and gedit.

In the terminal, a ß is replaced by ss and all other German umlauts are
replaced by ?. If I want to update my Ubuntu, the update-manager shows me the
button Pr?fen (German word for Check).
In Firefox, Eclipse and Empathy, all umlauts are working.
I tried updating the language settings, but all are correctly installed.

Here are the technical information:

Description:Ubuntu 11.04
Release:11.04

gnome-shell:
  Installiert: 3.0.2-0ubuntu1~build1
  Kandidat:3.0.2-0ubuntu1~build1
  Versionstabelle:
 *** 3.0.2-0ubuntu1~build1 0
500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/gnome3-team/gnome3/ubuntu/ natty/main i386
Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I thought this is just a small error, but as it occurs on amd64 and
i386, I think it's severe.

[Bug 754721] Re: F-Spot crashes when trying to access Edit-Manage Extensions

2011-06-05 Thread David Newgas
The version in the docky ppa is 0.6-1, which is the 1st debian/ubuntu
package of mono-addins 0.6. The bug is fixed in mono-addins 0.6.1,
which will have a debian/ubuntu version like 0.6.1-1.

Attached is a patch that will fix the bug if you are happy recompiling
yourself. If you change the prefix when building, use MONO_GAC_PREFIX
and MONO_PATH at runtime to ensure f-spot uses the new mono-addins.

** Attachment added: Cherry pick gtk-gui/Mono.Addins.Gui.AddinManagerDialog.cs
from 0.6.1

[Bug 793061] [NEW] Agressive USB autosuspend makes me lose keystrokes

[Bug 767378] Re: Missing GenericName[es] in thunderbird.desktop

2011-06-05 Thread Ricardo Pérez López
Sure! I just did it, as you can see here:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/Wanted/ThunderbirdDesktop

and I opened a new question asking for the inclusion of my translation,
as the wiki page suggests:

https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu-translations/+question/160323

Hope this helps. Thanks!
