[Bug 1052418] Re: Transfer files to tablet brakes sd card and makes a read only file system

2012-10-03 Thread Chris Davis
So how do I find out if any one is working on fixing this and if it will be
fixed when you make ubuntu 12.10?
I asked at Linuxfest last weekend and alot of people knew about the problem but
said I would have to ask here to find out about if the bug is getting fixed.

[Bug 365300] Re: Randomly I get double clicks when I do a single click.

2012-10-03 Thread tyler_d
Confirmed here as well with bluetooth keyboard and with mouse clicks.

The bluetooth keyboard shows doubles on input however types and responds
just fine. The mouse however does cause issues within the system on
clicking. Simple usb Logitec M100 mouse.

Kernel
3.2.0-32-generic

lsusb
Bus 002 Device 006: ID 046d:c05a Logitech, Inc. Optical Mouse M90

Mouse Click/release output
xev output `xev | grep Button`
ButtonPress event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x4c1,
ButtonRelease event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x4c1,

Keyboard Press output
`xev | grep Key`
KeyPress event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x4c1,
KeyRelease event, serial 36, synthetic NO, window 0x4c1,

annoying.

Just tried this with an older mouse and the double-click problem has not
happened once; however I did note the xev output is identical
`xev | grep Button`
ButtonPress event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x561,
ButtonRelease event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x561,

I believe this is a hardware problem based on the evidence from above coupled
with the feedback from the
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1429091page=2
mice manufacturers focus on speed, and thus new mice spit the output out much
faster then older mice. of course I don't have much to substantiate this
claim; so at this point it's mere opinion.

Ultimately this hardware bug should be dealt with by the o/s though
and a mere measure implimented to determine that a human doesn't double
click in mere milliseconds.

[Bug 1058089] Re: Intel 5100 AGN (iwlwifi) hangs frequently -- intermittent operation

2012-10-03 Thread Andrej Prša
I finally managed to get the problem fixed. The issue is not with the
iwlwifi modulce, it is with ubuntu's new dns resolver. I edited
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf and commented out the
dns=dnsmasq line. From then on, all problems have disappeared. I am
refiling this bug as the dnsmasq bug.

[Bug 1060936] [NEW] Unity Greeter lost its smooth transition

2012-10-03 Thread Rainer Rohde
Public bug reported:

Regression:

Unity Greeter seems to have lost its ability to a) correctly display

[Bug 1060417] Re: mdadm BOOT_DEGRADED setting is ignored

2012-10-03 Thread yct
Okay. Things are a bit confusing in the cloud.

The new Grub 2 is not being used, and the cloud loader reads
/boot/grub/menu.lst entries directly (you can't use update-grub to
regenerate menu.lst anymore, as the new way is the grub.cfg file, which
however is not used in the cloud).

So all this confused me a bit and I also wasn't running update-initramfs
to reflect my changes in /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/mdadm.

The root of my issue was that I was creating a RAID5 array (without the
--force option), which automatically puts the array into degraded,
rebuilding state, which then fails to reboot (in the cloud) due to the
BOOT_DEGRADED defaulting to false (in /etc/initramfs-
tools/conf.d/mdadm).

Please close this bug, but hopefully this helps others.

Sometimes I experience parts of Unity/Compiz not working any more and
I have to do a compiz --replace. I do not always immediately notice
when that happens because it might be that I am working in a remote
session for a longer while until first noticing that some hotkeys or
mouse gestures are not working any more in my host.

Is it possible that in such situation also the DD of links to the
desktop refuses to work?

Might be an explanation because not more people are affected, because
maybe they are not having the Unity/Compiz issue.

2012-10-03 Thread Marius Kotsbak
Another question is if the value in +CSQ has the same unit/range in 3G
vs LTE mode.

I think you're right. I just tested and it got through the indexing step
without problems. It did seem well before but I believe that was because
it was not indexing at those times. So hopefully this has indeed already
been fixed. Thank you.

You mean the deb from quantal? That's because it's built with
tex-common in quantal, not because tex-common in older system
works it out.

Will this fix make it into the texlive-backports PPA for precise?

Please make sure tex-common is also upgraded in the backports.
Otherwise, when one rebuilds the package from source, it would
fail to upgrade again.

[Bug 1060952] [NEW] Installation crashed

2012-10-03 Thread noneofthem
Public bug reported:

I tried to reinstall Ubuntu after having trouble with my partitions. I
had installed Windows 7 and then Ubuntu 12.10 beta 2 before trying to
reinstall. The configuration was:

SSD:
/ 25 GB
/home 88 GB
/swap 2 GB

normal HDD:
160 GB, Windows 7

After installing all my necessary software I wasn't able to even surf
the web. After making a few checks I figured out that my system
partition was completely full. 0 kb left! I tried to reboot after doing
sudo apt-get clean and the other things one does to make up space.
When I then tried to reboot, I wouldn't even get to the login screen
anymore. fschk would simply hang and the memory checks couldn't find any
errors. This is why I tried a reinstall and wipe everything completely.

[Bug 1060907] Re: NetworkManager stores wifi passwords in plain text

2012-10-03 Thread Ingar Smedstad
As long as it is not in plain text in a file on the filesystem I do not
care.

We want users to be able to set up wireless connections and select
available networks. As far as I have acertained this is accomplished by
giving them rights to
org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.settings.modify.system.

If we do this passwords WILL be stored in plain text in /etc.

Storing passwords in plain text will *allways* and in any circumstances
be a bad design.

The VPN test I set up did not store my password in plain text, and yet
mysteriously managed to start again without prompting me for a password.

You mean the deb from quantal? That's because it's built with

 works it out.

I mean the deb to which you posted a link:
ftp://ftp.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/universe/t/thailatex/thailatex_0.5.0-2_all.deb

Will this fix make it into the texlive-backports PPA for precise?

Please make sure tex-common is also upgraded in the backports.
Otherwise, when one rebuilds the package from source, it would
 fail to upgrade again.

This says tex-common 3.13 :

I am not affiliated with them. I cc the maintainer.

Fixed upstream in 5.13.2. It uses ~/.local/share, because accounts
aren't really configuration as such, but that's just as good from the
point of view of a clean home directory.

[Bug 1060767] Re: Ctrl-PrintScrn and Alt-SysRq are killing the processes in console

2012-10-03 Thread C de-Avillez
Thank you for opening this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. First of
all, this is not a coreutils issue, so I am closing the task for it.
This was well explained in the coreutils upstream bug.

Secondly, you have not provided any data about your Ubuntu version.
Generically, it would be better if you opened bugs using 'ubuntu-bug'
instead -- 'ubuntu-bug' will collect some data from your system,
including Ubuntu version.

[Bug 1060527] Re: Samsung SEW 3035 webcam not working

2012-10-03 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.6 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both
the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-
upstream-testing' tag. Please only remove that one tag and leave the
other tags. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next
to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the
'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.
