[Bug 1487884] [NEW] excessive memory usage (with kwin)
Public bug reported: kwin on open source drivers on a 1GB Radeon HD6870 (BARTS core) starts off using a lot of memory, and uses more and more until it can't allocate textures and you get black rectangles instead of windows sometimes. kill/restart kwin_x11 gets back to the same state as on login. This might be a mesa/drm bug. I think it's something specific to ati graphics cards, because switching from radeon to intel cleared up the problem completely. (I'm running on Intel right now. I thought it was prob. a kwin or general mesa bug until I found out that it wasn't happening on Intel. I switched because my ATI card idles at about 80W with open source drivers, maybe since dual monitor means no VBI to change clocks? IDK, anyway it's horrible in the summer.) On Kubuntu 15.04, running kwin with compositing enabled, memory usage on login was at least 3 or 4GB. (free -h, looking at used - buffers/cache). used memory would increase steadily, and so would swap. kwin_x11 never showed up as having a large RSS with top / ps. I forget what its VSZ was. I suspect texture memory leaks would explain the memory / swap consumption with resident-set growth. My alt-tab window switcher in kwin is the grid effect, that shows scaled-down copies of all your windows. I also use the effect that lowers alpha to 90% on windows without focus. On Intel drivers, total memory use was under 2GB used on login. (Now at 2.9G used, with firefox and some other stuff open). Intel SnB integrated graphics. My entire graphics stack is stock Kubuntu 15.04 libraries and kernel. This is on a fresh install of 15.04, where Catalyst has never been installed. In case it matters, the root filesystem is on XFS on a RAID10. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1487884 Title: excessive memory usage (with kwin) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/1487884/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1487890] [NEW] [synaptic] no history
Public bug reported: Hi, a while back after an upgrade I lost synaptic's history. I can't remember when it happened and can't test by downgrading, /var/log/apt/history.log still is available. When running the current version with the lost history, there are a few glib messages. Currently just Claws, IceCat and a kernel are not from official repositories. Synaptic history also isn't available when using a kernel from the repositories. Other non-standard packages I want to use are rodent and libfm, but currently those packages are purged. IOW nothing that isn't from official repositories is related to the bug. [Bug 1487769] Re: Task hung when using GPU
I couldn't disagree more with the closing of this bug, for two reasons: 1) Steam and Steam's games sometimes do replace completely userspace libraries, like C++ standard library, SDL and/or FreeType, but never OpenGL or graphic drivers, they always relies on systems installed implementation for that, and for Steam first run, it asks for sudo password and installs OpenGL via apt-get automatically. 2) Most importantly, this is a bug were a process hungs in kernelspace (I can't even kill it with SIGKILL), so no matter what library or application or any userspace code I could be running, this should never happen. No custom library Steam could install as my non-privileged user is able to change code running in kernelspace. [Bug 1456900] Re: OpenConnect does not connect
Have you tried connecting without the --passwd-on-stdin option? I think that option is why you are only being prompted for the username. [Bug 1487893] [NEW] first attempt to run program from activities menu fails
Public bug reported: 1) boot into gnome 2) click on 'activities' 3) click on 'terminal' 4) observe spinning circle pointer... there doesn't appear to be a #5. Gnome just stays hung in that state. [Bug 1487702] Re: [SATELLITE C50-B, Realtek ALC233, Mic, Internal] No autoswitch
We don't understand each other, Raymond. I AM trying to use a headset (headphones + microphone) with a combo TRRS jack on a combo plug, but Ubuntu never switches to the mic when the headset is plugged, and just uses the laptop's integrated one instead. I mentioned dell-headset-multi, because adding that option model was the only way I could see a headset and mic actually recognized. However, it still keeps the mic deaf, so there is no use of it for an end user. I don't think I entirely understand you when you are talking about hex- coded nodes and pins, I am just an end-user, so you will have to use plain English with me. And I am not even a native English speaker, while we are at it... If you think my bug report is incomplete, I would like you to be so kind to explain to me how to make it complete. I reported, because I would really like to see this solved. Sorry, was installed and working from iconnor PPA. Stopped working after update, so I installed the package, and manually cleared out all remaining traces of the install, including dropping the database and removing the db user, so as to get a completely fresh install from the Ubuntu official repository. The install fails at the last stage of db upgrade. Hope this helps. On 23 Aug 2015 15:15, Steve Gilvarry steve.gilva...@gmail.com wrote: Fresh install, manually cleared out all existing instances. [Bug 1483431] Re: PPTP VPN fails with 'Failed to request VPN secrets'
I have the same problem under Ubuntu 15.04 x64 for both PPTP and VPNC (Cisco IPsec old vpn client) connections. Openvpn connections seems not to be affected, but I did not test openvpn a lot. I can find the same error on syslog: [vpn-manager/nm-vpn-connection.c:1778] get_secrets_cb(): Failed to request VPN secrets #2: (6) No agents were available for this request. It only happens at the first logon. If I logoff and then logon again, both PPTP and VPNC works fine. I'm using logoff+logon as a workaround, but it's very annoying. I did some debugging stopping and launching manually network manager with sudo NetworkManager -d --log-level DEBUG The most useful thing I noticed comparing the debug output of a working logon session with a non working session, is the presence of the following line only on the working session NetworkManager[5543]: debug [1440322623.554175] [settings/nm-agent- manager.c:330] impl_agent_manager_register_with_capabilities(): (:1.182/org.freedesktop.nm-applet/1000) requesting permissions The above line does not appear when I'm inside a first logon (not working) session. It seems that nm-applet is unable to register as an agent to NetworkManager, but only at the first login. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1483431 Title: PPTP VPN fails with 'Failed to request VPN secrets' To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager-pptp/+bug/1483431/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1457587] Re: wifi crash on wakeup (iwl3945 cfg80211)
I've also been seeing this bug in kubuntu for about the last 6 months. The wifi actually works when I come directly out of sleep mode but if the computer screen is allowed to lock then afterwards the wifi is broken and journalctl shows errors of the kind wlan0: Failed check-sdata-in-driver check, flags: 0x4. I've tried to restart services and modprobe the iwl3945 module but this often crashes the computer. Instead I've found that sending the computer into 'sleep' mode and waking it up will restore the wifi -at least for a while. $ uname -a ... 3.19.0-26-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Tue Aug 11 14:16:45 UTC 2015 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1457587 Title: wifi crash on wakeup (iwl3945 cfg80211) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1457587/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
