[Bug 105088] Re: Thunderbird does not honor gnome-vfs paths
I'm using Ubuntu 14.04 with Thunderbird 31 and I can partially confirm this bug. What is working: -) Mount an samba-share with Nautilus -) Compose a message in Thunderbird and CLICK ON THE ATTACHMENT BUTTON -) The samba share should be visible on the left (but it might be in a different order compared to Nautilus as there is no seperate Network-item. -) Browse to the files you want to add. What is not working: -) Mount an samba-share with Nautilus. -) Compuse a message in Thunderbird and DRAG AND DROP A FILE from the mounted Samba-share in Nautilus into the compose windows -) A link smb://name of sambaserver/path to file appears in the message in Thunderbird, but Thunderbird is unable to send the file. I don't know if this is a bug in Thunderbird or Nautilus, but I don't think this issue can be closed. Somebody refers to ~/.gvfs/smb\ but I think the mounting changed since that comment. Now it can be find in /run/user/uid/gvfs/smb- share:server=X,share=Y, where uid can be 1000 and X and Y have other values. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/105088 Title: Thunderbird does not honor gnome-vfs paths To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/thunderbird/+bug/105088/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1322974] [NEW] Eog doesn't have permission to save on a samba share
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce the bug: -) I've mounted a samba share with Nautilus. I needed to provide login and password to be able to access it. -) I could access it with eog (Eye of Gnome) to view pictures. -) But I needed to rotate an image and when I tried to save it, I got an error: Could not save image 'filename'. You do not have the permissions necessary to save the file. This is strange, because I can rename filenames, copy new files, delete files,... from within Nautilus. Workaround: open the same image with Gimp, rotate and overwrite 'filename' and this works. That's why I believe the bug is in eog. Extra information: -) the samba share comes from an OpenMediaVault system, which uses 2:3.5.6~dfsg-3squeeze11 as samba server. -) my 14.04 system is up-to-date. -) I also tried it on an Ubuntu 13.10, but I had the same problem :-(. [Bug 803858] Re: No language chooser on login screen in LightDM
At the moment I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 and I would like to have the ability to have a language chooser on login screen. I tried the suggestion in comment #16, but even after restarting the computer I didn't see any change at login screen. $ cat /etc/lightdm/lightdm-gtk-greeter.conf show-language-selector=true Personally I see potential in schools for this feature request. Eg. in our (Dutch speaking) school we have language classes for Dutch, French, Spanish and German (and even Chinese). Eg. my class has Dutch, French and English. I think it's interesting to be able to choose the language at login: if a pupil has an English class, he takes 'English' and if he has a French class, he takes 'French'. I changed some things in /etc/xdg/lubuntu/lxdm/lxdm.conf, to have a user list: theme=Industrial # used to be Lubuntu, needed to be changed because Lubuntu theme doesn't support user list [userlist] disable=0 # used to be 1 But it didn't had the desired effect: now I see three users: syslog, ntp and usbmux. I can click on 'more', but this doesn't give a list, but a text box, where I manually have to type in my login name. Desired effect: a user list, with only the users who are people (eg. myself, my wife, kids, ...). Workaround, blacklist syslog, ntp and usbmux: black=syslog ntp usbmux # used to be empty I think it's strange that only syslog, ntp and usbmux show up and no other not-person-users. [Bug 495880] Re: Extracting a file with german Umlaut in the filename doesn't work
Can somebody explain why the status in this bug is 'invalid'? On my 10.10 system (file-roller 2.32.0-0ubuntu1) it's still not working. I also see that the importance of this bug is 'low', but for some languages it's very critical, eg. German (like already mentioned) and Dutch. While unzipping http://openofficeplaza.org/images/lesmateriaal/nl/writer/cursus_writer.zip with file-roller I get: caution: filename not matched: oo_oefen/Oefen_OpenOffice.org/Calc/Kopi\?ren.ods Some people suggested to use the command line utility unzip, but that also gave errors: error: cannot create oo_oefen/Oefen_OpenOffice.org/Calc/Kopi?ren.ods Invalid argument These bugs seem to be related, but I don't know if they are really the same: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file-roller/+bug/674956 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file-roller/+bug/177929 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file-roller/+bug/225002 -- Extracting a file with german Umlaut in the filename doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/495880 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

This bug also affects me as long as I can remember. It doesn't happen with all files and not with all websites. Unfortunately it affects me in Smartschool, a popular electronic learning environment in Belgium that I use on a daily basis. Almost all the files that suffer from this bug have application/force-download as file-type. The workaround is indeed to first save it and then open it. Of course this isn't very user friendly and it costs some time. If you need to do it a lot, it becomes frustrating. So, I would be V-E-R-Y happy if this bug could be solved. [Bug 279802] Re: firefox 3.0.3 upgrade from ubuntu cannot parse hotmail webmail when replying
I can confirm this bug. The bug even not only occurs when replaying to a message, but also when making a new message. Changing general.useragent.vendor from Ubuntu to Firefox solves the problem indeed. Unfortunately this isn't very user friendly and now the vendor is changed on every site that is visited. An add-on which would change the useragent only for Windows Live Hotmail would be a better solution. The perfect solution would be that Microsoft has a correct detection, like on eg. http://www.useragentstring.com . Changing from Windows Live Hotmail to another mailaccount isn't always what people want. Although I don't use it, I know at least two people who frequently use it. Keep in mind that everyone who installs/uses Ubuntu and uses Windows Live Hotmail is confronted with a bug of which the solution isn't easy to find. Especially when they aren't very technical. How come the bug didn't occured with Firefox 3.0.2? One of the things we could also do is sending mail(s) to Microsoft. Below is an example (maybe with some mistakes as English isn't my native language, as you might have noticed already). I've used the feedback button at the bottom right corner on http://mail.live.com . Hello I'm using Firefox, but still I can't access Windows Live Hotmail the way I want. I even can't make new messages or reply to existing ones! [Bug 293212] Re: moving window to second monitor causes window to disappear from gnome panel
I can confirm this bug with my Ati Radeon 9250 PCI GPU. FYI: I've set up my dual monitor configuration via System Preferences Screen resolution. I didn't have this problem with Ubuntu 8.04 (it is still the same hardware). But in that time I set up my dual monitor configuration with the command xrandr --output VGA-0 --left-of DVI-0. Haven't tried this command with 8.10, so I don't know if it would make a difference. ** Description changed: Binary package hint: gnome-panel Fresh install of released Intrepid w/Updates - Environment: - Docked Lattitude D530 with dual monitor configuration. [Bug 191889] Re: [MASTER] [WORKAROUND] Offline Mode feature fails to detect proper online state for networks that are managed outside of network manager.
I just installed Ubuntu 8.04 on the computer of somebody. They are using a Speedtouch 330, so I stumbled across usb-adsl-modem-manager (https://launchpad.net/usb-adsl-modem-manager). Although usb-adsl-modem-manager makes sure that you can connect to the internet, Firefox is always in offline mode, so the user needs to go to the File-menu to switch off this mode. This could be a problem with usb- adsl-modem-manager, firefox or the network-manager. As I couldn't use the bug reporting tool of usb-adsl-modem-manager, I send those on the top contributors list a mail (see https://launchpad.net/usb-adsl-modem-manager/+topcontributors). ** Also affects: usb-adsl-modem-manager Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [MASTER] [WORKAROUND] Offline Mode feature fails to detect proper online state for networks that are managed outside of network manager. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/191889 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 191889] Re: [MASTER] [WORKAROUND] Offline Mode feature fails to detect proper online state for networks that are managed outside of network manager.
Kristian Erik Hermansen, I tried your disable.offline.mode add-on, but then I couldn't use Firefox anymore. Eg. when I type a URL and hit enter, Firefox does nothing. These same with the search bar. When I uninstalled the add-on, everything worked again (except for that annoying offline mode that I needed to manually switch off). -- [MASTER] [WORKAROUND] Offline Mode feature fails to detect proper online state for networks that are managed outside of network manager. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/191889 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 119819] Re: scanimage -L crashes with HP ScanJet 4100c
Maybe this link is interesting: http://www.nabble.com/scanimage--L -crashes-with-HP-ScanJet-4100c-td14826162.html Especially the following quotes: Maybe the ScanJet 4100 is a little bit too slow in answering and it does not deliver the expected answers in time. I will see if I can find a workaround. in case of the failure no data was received from the scanner. The backend then retries to read the requested data again after waiting 0.1 seconds. You can try to increase the number of retries to see if this helps: export SANE_HP_RDREDO=20 xsane hp This will do 20 retries (2 seconds in total) before giving up. Please try if at least the xsane-GUI comes up. Maybe you then will run into an I/O-error during scanning. Seems to me that the hp-backend can do a workaround, but not worth for daily use. Could be that the HP ScanJet 4100 C is a little bit problematic concerning USB in certain environments. BTW, did you try to connect the scanner directly to an USB-connector on the back of the PC ? I personally tried to connect the scanner directly to an USB-connector on my PC (instead of through the USB-hub on my screen) and I could scan again. [Bug 157474] Re: openoffice won't print
I have a similar problem (openoffice won't print), but a different symptom. My OOo doesn't crash: it doesn't print at all. I didn't have any problems om my Feisty Fawn box. My workaround is to export my OOo document to pdf and print with evince (on the same computer). This works flawlessly, so I think it must be a problem with OpenOffice.org. -- openoffice won't print https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157474 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 157474] Re: openoffice won't print
Found the solution. The default since OpenOffice.org 2.3 is that it only prints the selected (work)sheets. But if you look at the print example (how it would look if you print it, afdrukvoorbeeld in Dutch) you'll see all the sheets. So suppose you want to print sheet 4, it will (probably) appear as page 4 on your print example, but you'll have to print it as page 1. Otherwise OOo won't print anything. So it's actually a bug in OOo: OOo should show a different print example. Unfortunately my solution won't work out for the original poster. -- openoffice won't print https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157474 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 64379] Re: Graphical installer not working with Matrox Parhelia cards
I can confirm this bug with my Matrox Parphelia P650 (dualhead) on my Ubuntu Edgy Eft system. I can also confirm that I didn't had this trouble with Ubuntu Dapper Drake. These are the steps I took, I'll upload my screenshots afterwards : ul liDownloaded and installed Ubuntu Edgy Eft, but X didn't start up/li liDownloaded and installed Ubuntu Edgy Eft balternate/b, install went smoothly/li liAfter install a reboot, grub started up, but after choosing the first line I got a black screen, needed to wait quiet a long time, until X started up. Unfortunately it was a total mess (see screenshot afterInstall). I tried to get a console, by pressing ctrl + F1, but I just got more mess (see screenshot afterInstallctrlF1)/li liThe only thing I could do was reset, but this time I choose the recovery mode when grub starts up. I did an apt-get upgrade and an apt-get dist-upgrade and although I got a different situation, it wasn't what i wanted (see screenshot afterupgrade). Again, ctrl+f1 didn't work (see screenshot afterUpgradectrlF1)./li liBack to recovery mode again, to install the unofficial Matrox driver from http://www.tuxx-home.at/ (it was version x86_32-1.4.4.4). After installing linux-headers-386 I tried startx, but it didn't complete the login (it only showed the splash screen). The console gave me some errors so that I figured out that I had to disable stylus, cursor and eraser in the ServerLayout section. I also disabled the section DRI and the Load dri, because that was asked in the documenation of the Matrox driver. After that startx worked./li liUnfortunately, after rebooting and choosing the first line in the grub-menu, I got that black screen again, just until gdm started up. But it seemed that parts of my screen where split in two, eg. my mouse cursor as you can see in screenshot afterDriverInstall. Luckily a simple ctrl+alt+backspace solved the problem. Because the boot took so long and because of the black screen and because of having to do ctrl+alt+backspace every time I asked the newsgroup be.comp.os.linux what the problem could be. They advised me to remove the splash option in /boot/grub/menu.lst/li /ul After all that trouble, I finally have a working system again, just like in good old Dapper Drake times. I really hope this bug can be solved when Feisty Fawn gets released, so that Parhelia users can install Ubuntu in a user friendly way. Anyway, good luck! ** Attachment added: Screenshot after installing with alternate http://librarian.launchpad.net/5571725/afterInstall.jpg -- Graphical installer not working with Matrox Parhelia cards https://launchpad.net/bugs/64379 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 77114] Camera with USB Mass Storage
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager Hello I just tried Nytech DS-5200 on Ubuntu Edgy Eft, but I got a different situation than with my Canon. My pictures aren't copied/moved to a directory, instead, my pictures are shown on my mounted camera (/media/usbdisk/DCIM/100DICAM). I think this is a bug, because Ubuntu knows there's a camera plugged in, but still it doesn't do the same steps as with the Canon. Screenshots might give a more clear view on what I mean: *Canon*: 1) http://users.telenet.be/cobnet/Werkmap/foto1.png (=Nytech) 2) http://users.telenet.be/cobnet/Werkmap/canon2.png 3) http://users.telenet.be/cobnet/Werkmap/canon3.png *Nytech*: 1) http://users.telenet.be/cobnet/Werkmap/foto1.png (= Canon) 2) http://users.telenet.be/cobnet/Werkmap/nytech2.png 3) Manually import pictures though File Import :( I first thought this was a bug of libgphoto2, that's why I filed it there: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detailatid=358874aid=1612025group_id=8874 (if you want, you can also find dmesg-information and /proc/bus/usb /devices-information overthere). I also asked our local linux newsgroup: http://groups.google.be/group/be.comp.os.linux/browse_thread/thread/bb04ffd7be8855c4/4128a3c84ad715a0 Alhough I think this isn't a severe bug at all, I thing it might make it more user friendly if the same situation as with the Canon can be provided.
