Can the GTK2 patch that is here:

As far as I can tell, it should be marked as fixed instead.

2012-02-22 Thread Alexander Rødseth
I didn't have the opportunity to test this, sorry for the delay and for
not providing the gdb output.

This is no longer an issue for me and it's has been a while since the
bug was created. I think you can just close it.

Thank you (and sorry about the snappy tone, I'm older and wiser now). :)

[Bug 263435]

2011-05-27 Thread Alexander Rødseth
Josh Aas, which events should be let through, in order to not break a
non-trivial number of existing plugin-based applications? It's a fairly
minimal amount of key press events that are blocked in my Gtk2 patch
(and as I understand, people want additional keys to go to Firefox, like
Ctrl-F4 and Alt-D).

S. Ali Tokmen, please give credit where credit is due.

[Bug 263435]

2011-04-04 Thread Alexander Rødseth
Created attachment 483216
Patch for fixing this issue on Linux/Gtk2

This patch tries to fix the issue mentioned in the bug, for the
Gtk2/Linux version of Firefox.

It's a compromise, where some keys are sent to Firefox and some to the plugin:
- Pressing ctrl-t, ctrl-r, ctrl-w, F11 etc. always works in Firefox
- Pressing space in youtube to pause videos works
- Pressing ctrl in flash games works (but not in combination with other keys)
- Editing text in flash forms, using ctrl-a, -z, -x, -c and -v works

Hope it makes the world somewhat less annoying for someone. It works for
me.

It is unlikely that I will use 9.04 or Emacs in the near future, so
unless someone else has experienced this problem I guess you can close
the bug as didn't fix, if that's an option...

[Bug 185000] Re: Can't log in wihout failsafe terminal

2008-10-23 Thread Alexander Rødseth
The wacom drivers that comes with Ubuntu now works fine with me. There
have been some updates with some problems, such as the movement of the
pen not registering while one of the buttons one the pen are pressed,
but I have not seen _this_ particular bug in a while.

I guess the workaround/solution is this:
1. Don't let autopackage change /etc/profile
2. If a wacom tablet doesn't work, install the wacom-drivers manually, as
described above

If one of these should happen again, I guess they should be reported as
new bugs against either autopackage or xserver-xorg-input-wacom. I think
this bug can be closed.

[Bug 258038] Re: Look into feasibility of using an alternatives system rather than diversions

2008-10-23 Thread Alexander Rødseth
I have an ancient laptop where, of all things, the 3D-part of the graphics card
is broken. No really, it's a hardware defect.
Being able to have a system with alternatives would be great as I could
continue to use the 2D-driver, but always use software OpenGL instead of it
being broken. (Even though it's currently a printer-server for the wireless
network)...

[Bug 263022] [NEW] [intrepid] upgrading libc6 left my computer in a broken state

2008-08-30 Thread Alexander Rødseth
Public bug reported:

--- What I did / how to reproduce ---
I was just upgrading my packages with Synaptic.

--- What happened ---
libc6 was left in a half-installed state and I was told to run dpkg
--configure -a.
When running dpkg --configure -a, ldconfig segfaulted and my system was left
with a broken libc.
Not even ls worked.
It was much pain to bring the system to a workable state again, since I had to
download the intrepid .iso and
burn it using the broken computer (and that's not easy when you can only boot
from CD's, so I ended up
moving one of the harddrives to another computer).
Then I just copied over all files belonging to the libc6 package from the CD to
the harddrive and finally got it up and running again.

Right now, ldconfig still segfaults and dpkg --configure -a is
impossible to please.

--- Expected results ---
The package should upgrade without a hitch and preferably not leave the system
in a broken state.

2008-08-05 Thread Alexander Rødseth
Public bug reported:

My root partition was out of disk space.
I guess this is a dpkg-bug that should be re-assigned to dpkg?

No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu intrepid (development branch)

What I expected/what happened:

I expected dpkg to tell me that the partition was out of disk space and ask me
if I wanted to continue or not.
If I did not answer for 10 minutes, I would expect dpkg to give up, exit
gracefully and tell me which command I should type in order to resume the
operation. If I were running Synaptic, I would expect it too pick up the
problem and handle it gracefully too.

What happened was apport detected a crash, I went out of diskspace, I
had to manually delete packages from the dpkg-cache without knowing
which were installed or not, I had to run dpkg --configure -a and fix a
broken package.

I also ended up doing this, in order to save a bit more space for each package
I installed:
for $f in *.deb; do sudo dpkg -i $f; sudo rm $f; done
I would expect dpkg to be at least that smart, in order to save disk-space when
needed. Or is that apt's job?

I don't know exactly which package is to blame here, but this is a bug
in my view.

Re: [Bug 254515] Re: [apport] package sensors-applet 2.2.1-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: underprosessen post-installation script returnerte feilstatus 139

2008-08-04 Thread Alexander Rødseth
I found that the issue appeared after my system have frozen repeatedly
because 64-bit Ubuntu is having trouble with my WDC WD1500ADFD-0
harddrive. (The drive does support NCQ, but it doesn't get that at
boot according to dmesg, which I think is the source of that problem).
This in turn lead to some files being corrupted, which is the cause of
this bug. I have reinstalled since this happened and are upgrading to
intrepid right now, in hope that a later kernel will fix the issue.

I don't know where to report the harddrive-issue, if it's the kernel,
acpid or something else.

Anyways, I guess this bug can be closed, since it's unrelated.

[Bug 254515] Re: [apport] package sensors-applet 2.2.1-1ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: underprosessen post-installation script returnerte feilstatus 139

2008-08-03 Thread Alexander Rødseth
This file:
/var/lib/dpkg/info/sensors-applet.postinst
Contains this:
#!/bin/sh
set -e
# Automatically added by dh_scrollkeeper
if [ $1 = configure ] which scrollkeeper-update /dev/null 21; then
scrollkeeper-update -q /dev/null 21
fi
# End automatically added section
# Automatically added by dh_icons
if which update-icon-caches /dev/null 21 ; then
update-icon-caches /usr/share/icons/hicolor
fi
# End automatically added section

After trying to run both scrollkeeper-update and update-icon-caches, I discover
that scollkeeper-update sefaults:
$  scrollkeeper-update
Segmentation fault

And finally, here's a workaround:
1. Comment out three lines from /var/lib/dpkg/info/sensors-applet.postrm so
that it looks like this:
#!/bin/sh
set -e
# Automatically added by dh_scrollkeeper
#if [ $1 = remove ]  which scrollkeeper-update /dev/null 21; then
# scrollkeeper-update -q
#fi
# End automatically added section
# Automatically added by dh_icons
if which update-icon-caches /dev/null 21 ; then
update-icon-caches /usr/share/icons/hicolor
fi
# End automatically added section
2. sudo aptitude remove sensors-applet

[Bug 248353] [NEW] [intrepid] package x11-common 1:7.3+10ubuntu10 failed to install/upgrade: pakker i konflikt - installerer ikke x11-common

2008-07-14 Thread Alexander Rødseth
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

I recently upgraded Hardy to Intrepid.

Everything went smooth, except that the (closed source) nvidia drivers didn't
work with the latest version of X, so I had to downgrade.
So, in /etc/apt/sources.list I added both the intrepid and hardy repositories.
Then I tried to install the correct nvidia drivers using EnvyNG, which happily
downgraded X for me.
(I had to modify the sourcecode of EnvyNG to accept that I was using Intrepid).

Now, finally, X and Nvidia works again on my machine. I've tried all the
available Nvidia packages in the intrepid repositories and also the
packages from Nvidia.

However, this bug is not about that, but about the title, which apport
somehow found appropriate to report in.

Here's the version of X I'm using that works with Nvidia:

% apt-cache policy xorg
xorg:
  Installed: 1:7.4~0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1:7.4~0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 1:7.4~0ubuntu1 0

500 http://www.nic.funet.fi hardy-updates/main Packages
 1:7.3+10ubuntu10 0
500 http://www.nic.funet.fi hardy/main Packages

And here's my lsb release:
% cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=8.10
DISTRIB_CODENAME=intrepid
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION=Ubuntu intrepid (development branch)

My main issue now is that I need to watch out when apt-get upgrading so
that I don't install the newer version of X.

In conclusion, package x11-common 1:7.3+10ubuntu10 failed to
install/upgrade since it's in conflict.

[Bug 248353] Re: [intrepid] package x11-common 1:7.3+10ubuntu10 failed to install/upgrade: pakker i konflikt - installerer ikke x11-common

2008-07-14 Thread Alexander Rødseth
Attaching Xorg.0.log that shows what happens if I'm using the very
latest version of X on Intrepid + Nvidia.

It's basically this:
(EE) Failed to load module dri2 (module does not exist, 0)
dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//nvidia_drv.so: undefined symbol:
AllocateScreenPrivateIndex
(EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers//nvidia_drv.so
(EE) Failed to load module nvidia (loader failed, 7)
(EE) No devices detected.

I don't really know how to categorize this bug, but something,
somewhere, bugs. :)

[Bug 247582] Re: MIRO does not play viedos after FLASH 10 upgrade

2008-07-11 Thread Alexander Rødseth
I haven't tested it yet, but this might work if Miro doesn't use the plugins
from .mozilla/plugins...
- Put flash 10 in ~/.mozilla/plugins
- Remove flash 10 from the system wide directories (/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
and anywhere else)

Just an idea.

[Bug 185000] Re: Can't log in wihout failsafe terminal

2008-06-30 Thread Alexander Rødseth
Did you uncomment the autopackage-business in /etc/profile?

Here's how I install the linuxwacom driver so that it works for me:
* I use linuxwacom-0.8.0-3

./configure --enable-wacom
make
sudo make install
# To replace the kernel module with the newly compiled wacom.ko driver
sudo find /lib/modules/`uname -r` -name wacom.ko | xargs cp src/`ls -rt src |
tail -1`wacom.ko

sudo rmmod wacom
sudo modprobe wacom
dmesg | tail # just to check

# then restart X/gdm
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart

Hope this works for you :)

There's also a duplicate of this bug. How can this be Incomplete and
marked for expiration?

[Bug 188567] Re: [hardy] soundproblems with zsnes

2008-05-02 Thread Alexander Rødseth
My conclusion from all this is that:
* this is probably not a bug in Zsnes (since other games that use SDL have the
same problem)
* this is probably not a bug in Pulseaudio (since other programs can play sound
just fine)
* this is probably a bug in libsdl1.2debian-pulseaudio

I guess this is the updated workaround?

sudo apt-get install libsdl1.2debian-oss
pasuspender -- zsnes -ad sdl

I started konqueror like this:

% /usr/lib/kde4/bin/konqueror

Konqueror crashed without giving any useable backtrace, even though I have the
dbg-packages installed. Here is the console output:

I will attach the steps to reproduce this crash later, if I find them. Since
this is a crash with a reference to a line and function in a .cpp-file, I
report this anyways.

What I did was:
* Downloading a .zip-file in Konqueror
* When the file-dialog showed itself, it was searching for files in ~
* While the file-dialog was searching, I typed in download/zipfilename.zip,
which was where I wanted to store the file
* Konqueror disappeared abruptly and the crash manager appeared telling me
there was no backtrace

[Bug 188567] Re: [hardy] soundproblems with zsnes

2008-04-26 Thread Alexander Rødseth
I tried zsnes -ad sdl too, and several other variations in both
parameters, config-files and zsnes-versions. Sound works in Zsnes, but
it still stutters, almost vibrates, in a quick sine-wave kind of way.
In the current state, zsnes is not usable for me. I've also seen this
problem in other applications, specifically a game called Adanaxis
(adanaxisgpl to run). This leads me to believe that this is not an
issue with Zsnes, but with Pulseaudio.

Btw, paplay any.wav works fine here, but speaker-test does not work,
even with pasuspender:

% pasuspender -- speaker-test

speaker-test 1.0.15

Playback device is default
Stream parameters are 48000Hz, S16_LE, 1 channels
Using 16 octaves of pink noise
Rate set to 48000Hz (requested 48000Hz)
Buffer size range from 256 to 2097152
Period size range from 128 to 524288
Using max buffer size 2097152
Periods = 4
was set period_size = 524288
was set buffer_size = 2097152
*** PULSEAUDIO: Unable to create stream.

kdebase-kde4-dbg was installed not long after this bug was reported,

[Bug 201656] Re: [KDE4] hardy, nspluginviewer crashed

2008-04-11 Thread Alexander Rødseth
I don't think it was specific for that video in particular, but I'll try to use
Konqueror some more and see if it happens again.
In general, many crashes I've experienced with KDE4 and Konqueror is really
hard to reproduce since they happen so randomly.
I know the saying if you can't reproduce it, it didn't happen, but when I
have a backtrace to show for I still report the bugs. Should I only report
reproducible bugs?

[Bug 191804] Re: [KDE 4] kded crashed

2008-03-17 Thread Alexander Rødseth
kded4 crashed again. The only KDE-application I was running was kmix.
(kmix/kde4)

I was watching a video in Firefox when suddenly the crash-window appeared,
telling me kded4 had crashed.
Seems like it's the same line of code as last time, even though this backtrace
is different.

Using host libthread_db library /lib/tls/i686/cmov/libthread_db.so.1.

[Bug 32906] Re: sudo shouldn’t ABSOLUTELY NEED to look up the host it’s running on

2008-03-17 Thread Alexander Rødseth
sudo does not work by default if your network card is only partially
supported, as opposed to logging in with root.
