[Bug 2058816] [NEW] Crash when editing an application whose icon was deleted
Public bug reported: Setting and externally deleting an icon causes alacarte to crash when editing that application. Edit Applications > Gvim Set /mnt/shared/icon-gvim.png as the icon In Terminal, mv /mnt/shared/icon-gvim.png /mnt/shared/icons/icon-gvim.png Accessories > Gvim > Properties Actual: Crash. Alacarte doesn't close, but the preferences window never opens and I get a "alacarte has crashed" popup window. Subsequent attempts to edit Properties of Gvim do nothing. Clicking Properties for other applications still works. Expected: Icon is automatically set to empty, loaded with a ? placeholder, or I get an error message with an option to clear the set icon. Thanks for making a great gui for editing applications! It's nice to have a simple streamlined editor for customization. [Bug 1625712] [NEW] Power button no longer opens interactive menu in Xenial
Public bug reported: In gnome-shell, the hardware power button does not open the interactive power menu. It sleeps the computer instead. The configuration backend to customize this behaviour was intentionally removed in commit [50564cde49ca2][1] (for [bug 753713][2]). After [some discussion](https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=755953), it's returned in [gnome-settings-daemon 3.20](https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=755953#c29). Unfortunately, 3.20 is not in the [16.04 ubuntu repos](https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon) (however there is a 3.20 release for Yakkety 16.10). Can 3.20 be released in xenial-updates? Removing this functionality is a disruptive change and it appears it was introduced in the Xenial LTS release (3.17 was not in Wily). While I understand gnome doesn't follow Ubuntu's stable release strategy and this is one in a large system of applications, can we get gnome- settings-daemon upgraded to 3.20 in Xenial? Use case scenarios for why this is disruptive: * [Accidentally hitting the power button](https://www.reddit.com/r/gnome/comments/3oddse/buttonpower_gone_in_318/cvwd2ho) sleeps the computer without recourse. The interactive menu gives you 60 seconds to cancel. * Laptops can already suspend when the lid is closed. While the power button can be configured to hibernate instead of sleep, my laptop does not support hibernate. Now I have a nonfunctional button (when configured to hibernate) or two ways to do the same action. * Laptops with low battery life cannot last long in suspend state. (And again, hibernate does not always work.) * The initial change was made to make the media buttons do what their labels say, but the "power" button no longer controls powering off the machine. Removing "shutdown" from the list of configurations is reasonable on the grounds that it is destructive, but removing "interactive" doesn't follow since it's the least destructive. The power button was the most convenient way to invoke that menu. Thank you for your consideration. [Bug 999985] Re: remmina goes full-screen on the wrong monitor
Remmina always goes to right monitor. If I swap my monitors in the Displays config app, then Remmina goes to the new right monitor. (So it appears to have nothing to do with which monitor is primary, only which one is on the right.) So the workaround is to set the monitor where you want Remmina as the monitor on the right side. (And even if you change which monitor is on the right after fullscreening Remmina, it will move itself to that screen.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/85 Title: remmina goes full-screen on the wrong monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/remmina/+bug/85/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1315041] Re: The launcher doesn't show “several windows are running” mark
Also occurs for me. The indicator seems to only update when the application loses focus instead of when the current window loses focus (which would catch every case except if an application opened a window in the background). So alt-tabbing to another application will fix the window markers. Open Terminal Open Chromium New window. (I now have two chromium windows open but only see one marker.) Switch to Terminal. (Chromium now correctly shows two window marker.) Switch to Chromium. Close window. (Ubuntu switches to terminal since it is the last window active. Chromium correctly shows one window marker.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1315041 Title: The launcher doesn't show “several windows are running” mark To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1315041/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 728700] Re: Nautilus doesn't clean up temporary files from cancelled file copies
I'm fairly certain I didn't log out and in. (Maybe I did after the first occurrence, but I recall doing this several times in succession.) I doubt it was lightdm: I reported this on Maverick (10.10). According to this link [1], lightdm became default in 11.10. I don't tend to run alphas or nondefault core software. I also do clean installs for each upgrade and haven't noticed this issue recently (on precise). (Although, I only noticed before because I ran out of disk space.) [Bug 1002701] [NEW] Compiz hangs with 100% CPU usage in commit_transaction()
Public bug reported: Sometimes (I think it's when I'm switching programs), I lose all responsiveness in my Unity desktop. I can move the mouse, but clicking does nothing. If I switch to a virtual terminal (tty1), I can run top and see that compiz is running at 100 or 101% cpu usage. On bug 885498 I was asked to run dstack and attach my output (hang.dstack). I attached output from several runs of dstack to that bug, but I figured it would be better to attach and check where compiz is really getting hung up. I installed libdee-1.0-1-dbg, attached to compiz with gdb, and I get a similar stack trace with 'bt' to the dstack output. Each time I run 'finish', it returns control until I reach #20 (commit_transaction). At this point, when I run 'finish', it waits for a long time (minutes) to return. Presumably something in commit_transaction should be returning to eventLoop() and allowing the UI thread to update? [Bug 597092] Re: palimpsest cannot unmount partition in fstab
In order to work around this bug, you can run `sudo palimpsest` from a terminal. Unfortunately, most users would have a hard time figuring out that palimpsest is the name of the app. (I did. I had to run check the running processes.) #3: It's great that root isn't required just to run palimpsest because the app has a lot of useful features that don't require root. (Maybe these are new features that used to be exclusive to gparted?) I think a better quickfix would be to change the error to add run sudo palimpsest or to have an option that restarts the program as root. [Bug 780841] Re: The files lens includes folders that don't exist
@Omer: You're right. If I create ~/Downloads, add it to the bookmarks, remove it from bookmarks, and delete the folder then I don't see it in my Dash results anymore. But if you delete any of the bookmarked folders by hand, they are cleanly removed from the 'Bookmarks' menu instantly It looks like they might linger somewhere. I recreated the default folders and navigated to another folder (effectively refreshing nautilus) and all of the bookmarks were automatically recreated! @Harry: The folders don't always show up for me because my unity search results for the same query are often inconsistent (see bug 810823). [Bug 764009] Re: touch typing clash with unity keyboard shortcuts
That Wikipedia article is long. Is your complaint that most computers have one Super key and it's on the left side of the keyboard, which is also where most of the secondary keys are? Aside from mnemonics, I think one of the reasons that all of the commands are on the left side is so they can be used in conjunction with the mouse. Most users are mouse-dependent so they're faster if they don't need to take their hand off the mouse. Typing Super-l with one hand is impossible for most people. Can you elaborate on also it seems that there are too many commands for the same thing? expose... and choosing one of the windows or desktops via tab. I think one reason tab is not available is because it would interfere with the Scale Window Title Filter plugin. Perhaps if the hook added a tech-supported tag to bugs that had already gone through tech support so that those bugs can rise to the top? Or if you could import an AskUbuntu question into a bug report so it feels like asking on AskUbuntu is an important step in the bug reporting process. (Yes, copy-paste does most of that, but I think psychologically it's very different.) [Bug 575947] Re: Add message indicator applet support
I would prefer if desktop-webmail avoids needing users to enter their passwords. I don't store my mail credentials anywhere. I doubt you can show unread message counts and new mail notifications without having the user's credentials. Besides, there's lp:gm-notify for gmail. Wouldn't it be better to extend that project to support different email providers? However, it could be useful for desktop-webmail to put _something_ in that mail spot. This page shows the Evolution indicator: http://frugalware.org/~devil505/blog/?p=1632lang=en So there are several items: - Mail - Compose New Message - Contacts - email accounts Seems like it would be nice to have Mail open your account and compose open a new message. [Bug 730348] Re: Suggestion: Add microphone to Sound indicator applet
@Matthew: If I understand that correctly, each application that adds microphone control needs to set a flag in their source (PULSE_PROP_media.role). So if I still wanted to be able to always have that option available, could I just set that environment variable? Or run a service that claims it's an audio stream (or would that break stuff)? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/730348 Title: Suggestion: Add microphone to Sound indicator applet -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 730348] Re: Suggestion: Add microphone to Sound indicator applet
@Robert: While having it only appear while you're in a skype or mumble call sounds great, is it possible for it to appear whenever any application attempts to use the microphone? I was using Gmail's voice plugin, so even if I was using Natty I wouldn't benefit from the current implementation, right? [Bug 730348] [NEW] Suggestion: Add microphone to Sound indicator applet
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: indicator-sound I generally have my microphone muted and when I want to run Skype or something, I'd like an easier way to see that the microphone is muted. I think it would be great if there was the option to mute/unmute the microphone from the Sound Indicator (indicator applet on my gnome- panel). Another applet that controls microphone volume is another possible solution, but I think it would be better to add it to the sound indicator. [Bug 553256] Re: file operation icon does not match the new look
The icon is system-file-manager-panel.
