Re: [Bug 195266] Re: Nautilus does not update trashcan icon
Yes, I have just tried that, and discovered that: The new user trash icon behaves in exactly the same buggy way, that is, it doesn't update with adding stuff to an empty trashcan nor emptying it, although opening it does show the items in there. Stranger, when I logged back out and back into my old account, the trashcan icon had completely disappeared! However, it is still there, it just isn't visible, since right-clicking on it does open up a trashcan context menu. Sometimes, display things are compiz related. Public bug reported: Feisty Beta version. Under high file IO load (such as during an OS update), the system will crawl. Music will skip, firefox will freeze, all other apps will freeze. Finally, after several minutes, if the memory use is high, the system will freeze as a whole and no other operation is possible (mouse pointer included). Edgy did not have this problem. To reproduce for me, I simply need to run several programs (firefox, Update Manager, ktorrent, totem). I have 512MB, this problem usually appears when I have swap shut off. It isn't purely running out of memory, because I can routinely do exactly the same activity (with swap off) in Edgy and get only a mild slowdown, whereas Feisty hangs. It appears to be going slower and slower until you have to wait 5 or six _minutes_ to, for example, switch to a console. I realize that this bug report is somewhat useless, I've tried to come up with a clearer way of reproducing the bug, but can't do it. Re: [Bug 74768] Re: No suspend in Acer Aspire 5601AWLMi on Herd 1
Okay. The new kernel installed today. It did not update menu.lst in /boot/grub, however, I had to do that by hand. This is what I have in /boot/grub/menu.list (to check to see if it is right): title Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.20-2-generic root(hd0,0) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20-2-genericroot=UUID=45dd5d51-d66a-4a3b-bd21-146fe0ebfdf4 ro quiet splash initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.20-2-generic quiet savedefault output of uname -r: 2.6.20-2-generic I updated menu.lst, rebooted, confirmed that it was running the newest kernel, then retested. No change in suspend behavior at all. Like before, I can suspend (in this case, using the log out menu, and selecting Suspend). Computer will suspend correctly (it seems). Upon waking, the CD drive spins up, the harddrive light goes on for about 20 seconds, and then nothing. The backlight does not come on. I have to hard shut off, by holding the power button down for a few seconds. [Bug 75451] Re: Any software using SDL for sound on the Acer Aspire 5601AWLMi
I've looked around the forums. People have tried using an .asoundrc file to fix the problem. I cut-n-pasted one, which I will attach. This file fixes the problem above, but creates many other problems, so it is not a useful solution. However, it might shed some light on what's going wrong. ** Attachment added: sample .asoundrc which causes it to work http://librarian.launchpad.net/5425146/.asoundrc -- Any software using SDL for sound on the Acer Aspire 5601AWLMi https://launchpad.net/bugs/75451 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 75451] Any software using SDL for sound on the Acer Aspire 5601AWLMi
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libsdl1.2debian-alsa Steps to reproduce: #1: Install Edgy Eft final OR Feisty Fawn Herd 1. (tested on a use entire harddrive fresh install of both) #2: Confirm that sounds works fine on this laptop, by for example playing an .ogg file with Movie Player. #3: Install any game or software that uses SDL for its audio, such as almost any emulator (uae for example), or frozen-bubble. #4: Note that the sound coming from the software is scratchy and skips. If needed, I will record a sample and attach it to this bug. I am referring to onboard sound (but have not tested with external sound yet, I will do so in the next few days and add a comment). The onboard chipset listed by lspci as: 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801G (ICH7 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 02) This behavior was observed on this system before any config file was changed, so they should all be at their defaults. I am guessing that it's the package I chose (libsdl1.2debian-alsa) because that's the one that is installed by default for SDL it seems, but I suppose it could be any deeper part of the sound system. I have also installed alsaplayer-command and alsaplayer-alsa just to test the performance of the alsa system, isolated from other layers. It worked just fine. ** Affects: libsdl1.2 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Any software using SDL for sound on the Acer Aspire 5601AWLMi https://launchpad.net/bugs/75451 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 74768] Re: No hibernation or suspend in Acer Aspire 5601AWLMi in Ubuntu Feisty Fawn Herd 1
Sorry about the delay. After this problem, I started getting serious filesystem errors. I finally decided to play it safe with a reinstall. The reinstall (of Herd 1) was of the use entire harddrive type. After that, hibernation worked perfectly. Suspend still fails to wake in exactly the same way as the previous releases (Edgy and Dapper). On 12/8/06, Luka Renko [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: When you talk about suspend, you mean to RAM? It seems that at least you have regression of hibernate support, so please provide the following: Output of: cat /var/lib/acpi-support/*-* Content of the following files: /proc/swaps /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume Then I would suggest that you run hibernate from terminal with following command: sudo pmi action hibernate 21 | tee hibernate.log Then attach hibernate.log file. -- No hibernation or suspend in Acer Aspire 5601AWLMi in Ubuntu Feisty Fawn Herd 1 https://launchpad.net/bugs/74768 -- No hibernation or suspend in Acer Aspire 5601AWLMi in Ubuntu Feisty Fawn Herd 1 https://launchpad.net/bugs/74768 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
Re: [Bug 74768] Re: No hibernation or suspend in Acer Aspire 5601AWLMi in Ubuntu Feisty Fawn Herd 1
Okay, I'm running on Feisty now (upgrade-manager -c -d). Well, it's exactly the same as Breezy and Edgy unfortunately. Suspend, but won't wake. Instead, it just sits there with the hard drive light on for 25 seconds. Then nothing will get it to activate it's screen again, and the kernel (as far as I can tell) is crashed. On Edgy, even removing every possible module from the kernel and running in single user mode (and without X) and sending the suspend command directly to /proc or /sys (wherever it was, I forget) gave the exactly same symptoms. I really would like suspend and hibernate to work. Under Edgy, hibernate worked, but under Feisty, it just blacks the screen and leaves you needing to enter the password to unblack it, as if you had closed the laptop lid with do nothing as the option. I get exactly the same be [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Ah, I see. I will install and test. I am using Ubuntu (not Kubuntu). When I saw them disabled, I assumed that this was an improvement (correctly identified that it doesn't work), not as being a feature of the liveCD. Is there a way of testing suspend even in a livecd situation (forcing it?) just to see if it can wake (whether or not it gets the CD working correctly again is another issue).
