[Bug 1943833] [NEW] Failed to update metadata for lvfs
Public bug reported: When running `fwupdmgr refresh` from the command line or when performing an update from the Software application the following error will be thrown: Failed to update metadata for lvfs: checksum failure: failed to verify data, expected 98261db7124c8026fb88f77768787efc2f8355c3 The cause is an outdated libjcat, as explained in the upstream bug report: https://github.com/fwupd/fwupd/issues/3652#issuecomment-912677175 0.1.3 is included in Ubuntu but at least 0.1.4 of libjcat is required to function properly. Firmware can not be updated any longer as a result unless forcing the update manually by performing `fwupdmgr refresh --force`. This means the libjcat dependency of this package needs to be set to 0.1.4 minimum and the libjcat package itself needs to be updated. I replaced the PSU to rule out the possibility of a broken PSU just in case, hence the delay. While it was a risk, I needed an excuse you buy a quieter one anyway. And guess what? No more crash. [Bug 1799545] [NEW] System shutdown/reboot when starting a game since Ubuntu 18.10
Public bug reported: Ever since I updated from 18.04 to 18.10, I'm no longer able to play a game like Heroes of Newerth. As soon as the game start after the picking phase, my system completely shuts off/reboots. Testing with a game like Warsow gives me the same result. In about 50% of the crashes it is just turning the system off completely. In the other 50% it reboots the system and it's the BIOS telling me about a probable power issue and anti-surge protection was triggered. I disabled the systems anti-surge protection in the BIOS as a test. No change again, the system just turns off. The PSU should be fine though, as all was running smooth in Ubuntu 18.04. All was fine on 18.04 with the default open source drivers in combination with my AMD RX480 card. Lowering every graphic setting (resolution, anti-aliasing, etc.) in the game to a minimum does not help in any way. Due to it being a complete crash, I don't quite know where to report what since I have no error nor log messages to go on. Nothing of any use (recent or related to the crash) is available in /var/crash. As an additional test I tried a Wayland session instead of the Xorg session I normally use. The result is the same, a hard crash of the system. It is not limited to just French dictionaries. All additional dictionaries I had (English (GB), Dutch (NL) and French) are no longer present after the update, just English (US) remains. Reinstalling the Hunspell libraries did not solve the issue. I do not see the same behaviour with the language packs though, they are still there and have been updated nicely. [Bug 1774957] [NEW] Network icons in status menu disappearing
Public bug reported: Ever since the update to Ubuntu 18.04 I'm having issues with the status menu at the top right of the screen. Normally you'd have a wired network connection icon displayed at the top without opening the menu. In my case it is not displayed half of the time. In the menu list no icon nor label is displayed for the wired connection menu item. When talking about half of the time it means that I can randomly make it display again when removing the USB network adapter and reconnecting it e.g. This does not work reliably though. When connecting to a VPN, normally you'd get an additional icon at the top. This is not the case any more, nor does the switch behind an activated VPN turns change to an active state. The result is that you can activate a VPN using the switch, but you can verify that it is activated, nor can you de-active the VPN through the menu. This does change in settings though. Wireless settings are no longer displayed in the menu at all. So no way to activate it or connect to a specific network. Public bug reported: Since the update from iio-sensor-proxy 1.3-1 to 1.3-1ubuntu1, my laptop screen is inverted, with the screen upside down and the mouse pointer movement mirrored. My laptop has no option to rotate the screen though. A rotation lock button is also added to the bottom of the main menu at the top left, between the settings and session lock button. [Bug 1575718] [NEW] Input fields with no border or too small
Public bug reported: Since the update of Firefox from 45 to 46 today, input fields are rendered differently and with issues. Checkboxes, radio buttons and the range input tag have no borders. Text input tags are rather low in height. See the following page for examples: http://webdesign.about.com/od/examples/l/bl_input-tag-examples.htm The height issue is clearly illustrated with the number input tag example, where the up and down arrows are now rendered over the border. In case of the tags without border: they are now invisible if not selected. Attached you'll find a screenshot illustrating the different issues. The issue occurs with the default Firefox theme, as well as the GNOME Firefox theme. Just a heads up for everyone: DO NOT attempt to build the driver packages yourself with the drivers from the AMD website after you installed the LTS enablement stack packages. [Bug 1242719] [NEW] Other Software source properties not properly set
Public bug reported: Since Ubuntu 13.10 (complete clean install or upgrade from 13.04), software sources aren't properly added through the GUI. Part of the URI is placed in the distribution section and the value of what should be placed in the distribution section is added to the components section. The result is errors when updating the software sources. Steps to reproduce: 1) Open Software Updates 2) Go to the Other Software tab 3) Add a new source like a PPA. Example: ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3-staging 4) Click on Edit... for the new created source Result: URI: http://ppa.launchpad.net/gnome3-team/gnome3-staging Distribution: /ubuntu Components: saucy main Expected result: URI: http://ppa.launchpad.net/gnome3-team/gnome3-staging/ubuntu Distribution: saucy Components: main Changing it manually will give you key errors on update afterwards. Using sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3-staging in a terminal works as expected. I'm running Ubuntu GNOME 13.10, should that makes any difference. [Bug 880227] Re: eog fails to start with: GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: Timeout was reached
I'm giving up on reporting issues in Launchpad of packages included by Ubuntu. There's simply no point in doing so. Like many issues, this one had a fix for a long time now and not a single attempt has been made to get it fixed in the current Ubuntu release. We should all just wait for half a year to get an insignificant code change to fix a highly annoying bug, after which we get presented with the next set of small but highly annoying bugs for yet another half a year. Why provide a bug reporting facility if the end result is people leaving with the feeling to sod off and deal with it? The amount of PPA's says enough: one can not depend on Ubuntu to get things done, you'd have to do it yourself. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/880227 Title: eog fails to start with: GLib-GIO-CRITICAL **: Timeout was reached To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/eog/+bug/880227/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Ronan, yours is a different issue I believe. As far as I can tell you are talking about Unity, not GNOME-Shell. Also, all other protocols, including xmpp, work fine here. The issue with IRC is different because normally many normal messages can be received through IRC without a need for a notification. [Bug 884808] [NEW] Nautilus is causing a constant flow of GLib-GObject-CRITICAL assertion errors
Public bug reported: When Nautilus is open, a constant flow of identical errors are being added to ~/.xsession-errors. The following error is added every second, constantly, for the period Nautilus is open: (nautilus:3088): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_value_get_object: assertion `G_VALUE_HOLDS_OBJECT (value)' failed By default the (nautilus:3088): prefix is not added to the log. This is the result of setting G_MESSAGES_PREFIXED=all as an environment variable. Besides the fact that it renders the .xsession-error file useless, it is quite embarrassing that such an error has been overlooked. To my knowledge only Tracker added additional Nautilus integration.
