[Bug 1352752] Re: Xorg crash when using rdesktop

2015-02-23 Thread Fridtjof Busse
I don't have access to that hardware any longer, so I unfortunatly can't
provide any updates on this. Maybe one of the other reporters can
provide helpful information.

2011-11-24 Thread Fridtjof Busse
Is there a workaround for this problem? Right now, oneiric i386 is completly
broken for us (we deploy several dozen desktops).
x86_64 seems to work, but poses different problems with plugins, migration etc.
And yes, we need LDAP authentication.

[Bug 845561] [NEW] module_name.blacklist=yes not working as designed

2011-09-09 Thread Fridtjof Busse
Public bug reported:

When booting oneiric Beta 1 via PXE (netboot.tar.gz) with the documented
blacklist parameter, in this case usb.storage.blacklist=yes, the installer
fails with Error while running 'modprobe -v usb-storage'.
This is due to the fact that the blacklist parameter is also passed to the
module itself, which doesn't know anything about this parameter.
You can veryify this via dmesg:
usb_storage: Unknown parameter 'blacklist'

[Bug 845802] [NEW] deja-dup hides authentication window

2011-09-09 Thread Fridtjof Busse
Public bug reported:

I'm using deja-dup to store encrypted backup to a CIFS share. The first run was
just fine. However, every new run fails after some time (you see the program in
the taskbar, but no progress). The reason is that the authentication window is
simply unvisible, asking for CIFS credentials.
It's visible for a split second when I log out, so it's there, but hidden
somehow.

[Bug 686041] [NEW] vesamenu.c32: not a com32r image

2010-12-06 Thread Fridtjof Busse
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: usb-creator

After creating an usb boot drive for 10.04 amd64, the system refuses to boot
from said stick with the error:

[Bug 664302] [NEW] update-manager asks for root password

2010-10-20 Thread Fridtjof Busse
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: update-manager

After a standard system upgrade from lucid to maverick, update-manager insists
on the root-password instead of the current user's password (who is still a
member of admin). The requested action is org.debian.apt.upgrade-packages.
update-manager worked fine prior to the upgrade.
On a freshly installed maverick system, this problem does not exists, but both
my upgraded systems show this behavior.

The root-cause is probably somewhere in policykit-1, please let me know
what additional information is needed.

[Bug 600475] [NEW] Include e2fsck.conf in default ramdisk

2010-06-30 Thread Fridtjof Busse
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: initramfs-tools

On Ubuntu lucid, if you create /etc/e2fsck.conf, it does not get included into
the initramdisk when running update-initramfs. But since there are a few
systems, especially embedded hardware, that e.g. do not have a RTC, it is
important to be able to tell fsck to skip certain checks. But this is only
possible if the configuration is available at boot-time.
I suggest an addition to initramfs-tools that checks for the existence of the
configuration file and includes it.

[Bug 592032] [NEW] nvidia module only working after gdm restart

2010-06-10 Thread Fridtjof Busse
Public bug reported:

I'm using the nvidia driver on lucid for a GT240. The driver installs
fine, but on reboot Xorg complains about an unusable configuration and
does not start:

(EE) Jun 10 08:11:08 NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module.
Please see the
(EE) Jun 10 08:11:08 NVIDIA(0): system's kernel log for additional error
messages and
(EE) Jun 10 08:11:08 NVIDIA(0): consult the NVIDIA README for details.
(EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting ***
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

After switching to a tty and running /etc/init.d/gdm restart (the restart X
option in the rescue X11 windows does not work), Xorg comes up just fine
without any errors and nvidia works.
There are not nvidia-related errors in the kernel-log.
Is there some sort of race-condition between modules or an incomplete blacklist?

[Bug 592032] Re: nvidia module only working after gdm restart

2010-06-10 Thread Fridtjof Busse
Creating a custom blacklist and updating the initrd solved the problem
(I did not yet identify one specific module, so this might be more
modules than necessary):

blacklist vga16fb
blacklist rivafb
blacklist nvidiafb

So it seems /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-graphics-drivers.conf does not
blacklist enough modules. My guess is that the framebuffer blocks the
nvidia module from loading properly on the first try.

[Bug 589139] [NEW] Network Manager showing SIM code cleartext

2010-06-03 Thread Fridtjof Busse
Public bug reported:

I'm using a german Vodafone UMTS stick to connect to the internet via Network

NM correctly prompts for the SIM PIN-code, but shows the digits in cleartext.
This is very bad, since UMTS is often used mobile and the SIM code is readable

I don't want to save the PIN code in NM itself.

Either the CD gets ejected and pulled in immediatly after or it is not ejected
at all (braseros auto-eject after burning).

[Bug 560766] Re: [lucid] No suspend on P55 system

2010-04-12 Thread Fridtjof Busse
The problem seems to be the USB device 8087:0020, the Intel Rate Matching Hub.
As soon as I disable it in the BIOS, suspend works.
This hub is probably on most P55-based, so I think it is important this gets
fixed for the LTS release.

[Bug 500404] [NEW] amdxdg-su missing from dependencies

2009-12-25 Thread Fridtjof Busse
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: fglrx-amdcccle

The package installs to links (ATI Catalyst Control Center) under
Progams, however the administrative one does not start as
/usr/share/applications/amdccclesu.desktop uses the not installed
amdxdg-su command. So either there is a dependency missing (currently,
there is no package containing amdxdg-su available) oder the start-
command needs to be changed.

Also, it is quite inconsistent that the nvidia configuration tool is
under System, while the ATI CCC is under Programs.

[Bug 446942] [NEW] [Karmic] Brightness jumps on Vostro laptop

2009-10-08 Thread Fridtjof Busse
Public bug reported:

I usually lower the brightness of the laptop screen via key-combination, which
works fine (although there is no brightness information within gnome, like for
sound). I also set the system to automatically dim the display when the system
is idle.
This all basically works, but every now and then (usually only once some time
after a restart) the system jumps to full brightness after being idle for a
moment. I then have to manually bring the brightness down again.
Especially when working in a dark environment, these sudden birghtness changes
are quite nasty.
I do not know which package is responsible for this, so I'm assigning it to
meta-gnome2.

Is there maybe some sort of power-management that causes this problem? Still

[Bug 412840] [NEW] Broadcom 4322 extremly slow with wl.ko

2009-08-12 Thread Fridtjof Busse
Public bug reported:

I'm using a notebook with a Broadcom BCM4322, which is correctly set up with
the non-free wl.ko module on jaunty (2.6.28-14.47-generic).
However, this driver exhibits a very weird behavior: Although the WLAN-link
(WPA2 with AES, but TKIP has the same problem) is stable, loading a website
sometimes simply stalls, only a reload works. Downloads are, once started, as
fast as my downstream.
There is nothing in dmesg or syslog, but it happens with every website.
Sometimes they load immediatly, sometimes they simply don't. Via ethernet,
there is no problem.
Any way to debug this further?

[Bug 342834] [NEW] [regression] Firefox sec_error_bad_der

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Firefox in the current jaunty does not connect to a SSL site that works just
fine on intrepid with the error sec_error_bad_der.
It may well be that there's an error somewhere in the cert, but as intrepid
works this is a regression, as both releases use the same browser. Maybe a
change in xulrunner?
If you need the problematic website, please just send me an email as I'd rather
not put the URL into a public bugreport.

[Bug 71887] Re: Make /bin/sh configurable with update-alternatives

2009-03-11 Thread Fridtjof Busse
t3rmin4t0r proposed what should be the default: Make /bin/sh configurable by
update-alternatives without manual intervention.
So no, the manual method is not good enough, if there's more than one program
to do the job, you have to be able to configure it with update-alternatives out
of the box.
Haven't checked if it's fixed in jaunty already, but I doubt it.

[Bug 286672] Re: WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.27/kernel/power/main.c:176 suspend_test_finish+0x74/0x80()

2009-02-28 Thread Fridtjof Busse

I agree that this is not a critical error, but nonethelesse a kernel oops is
not exactly a nice to have.

Both kernels (intrepid and jaunty) show the same behavior, I tested to
2.6.28 on my intrepid box to check if this problem still existed in the
upcoming version.
