[Bug 1159361] Re: zoneminder not creating local unix sockets for streaming

2014-07-27 Thread François Jacques
My results, based on Bill, Alain and Donovan comments:

1) Keep the default zone apache.conf without the ScriptAlias.

2) Stop both zoneminder and apache2
sudo service apache2 stop
sudo service zoneminder stop

2) Remove any stale sockets from /tmp/zm (default location):
sudo rm -vf /tmp/zm/*.*

3) sudo a2enmod cgi

4) Start zoneminder
sudo service zoneminder start

5) Start apache2
sudo service apache2 start

I found out that the order was important for step 4 and 5, otherwise it
doesn't work.

[Bug 1316289] Re: unable to add startup applications in gnome-tweak-tool

2014-07-15 Thread François Jacques
Ah, forgot to mention. For those who know how to read the change that
Ben proposes and would like to fix it locally, you can do so by
correcting the file:

/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtweak/tweaks/tweak_group_startup.py

It works great after that.

Reviewed and commented Ben's pull request. Hope it gets committed and
integrated soon, this is really annoying.

Re: [Bug 1299829]

2014-06-22 Thread Jean-Jacques Méric
dear Serguey

I submitted the bug report and possible keyboard alternative map, as I
fixed it on my Ubuntu machine (and per SIL standards)

However I am not competent to confirm your fix is OK, sorry I am not
knowledgeable at all on Linux
and I have no clue on how to test your fixes using the page mentionned.

Sorry this is of little help for now.

Thanks for the effort - and if there is anything I can do to help,
please tell me how to !

Friendly regards from Paris
JJ

2014-05-28 Thread Jean-Jacques Méric
Thanks for pointing me to this bug report I did not know about.
It may have been fixed in the past - or in redhat or elsewhere (sorry I am so
ignorant) -
but it's not fixed here at home (Ubuntu), and it's not fixed on the hundreds of
Ubuntu workstations at Ecole des Langues Orientales (INALCO, Paris) - I'll
check again later this week.

+ the layout needs anyhow to be fixed as it does not longer reflect the
official alphabet, and is remote fro the other current implementations for
Windows and for Mac aligned on the SIL recommendations.
See the files I posted.

[Bug 1321707] [NEW] Since May 2014 my update programm does not work properly. It doesnot give notice, it reperts that sending downloads is not succefull.

2014-05-21 Thread Jacques Rikken
Public bug reported:

Since 11.04 I am using Linux Ubuntu on my Toshiba 250, Intel Atom 1,7.
2x 1GB RAM. After installing 14.04 LTS around april 20 it worrkek
properly. In May updating started toget problematical. Updates were no
longer annonced automaticly and it reported to fail sending the proper
updates. It reported that it missed some programmaes. If I clicked to
proceed it started the updating proces but it said that it could not
update some programs. I reported to the Dutch Ubuntu organisation but I
could not find an answer, only an other member had the same problem.

I did find some ralated problems and answers and by terminal I gave the
prompt 'sudo apt-get autoclean'. The red triangle stayed above in the
screen remained. I did update programs by Synaptic program. Update
information remained outdated.

I hope you can help me. Thanks, yours sincerely

Jacques Rikken

[Bug 1313071] Re: No hdmi video output in 13.10

2014-04-28 Thread Jacques Blain
I have additional information concerning this bug :

At work I easely connect and get an output trough HDMI on an Asus
monitor. At home I used to get the same on my LG plasma TV. Now the TV
actually shows that it is connecting but the PC never sends an actual
output signal to the TV.

So it has to be some sort of driver issue in this case

[Bug 1313071] [NEW] No hdmi video output in 13.10

2014-04-26 Thread Jacques Blain
Public bug reported:

I have a Lenovo thinkpad t440s

I run Ubuntu 13.10 on it and routinely connect it to my LG plasma TV
using hdmi.

Up to this morning it has always worked well. This morning when I
connect the HDMI, Ubuntu shows me two connected monitors in the display
setting, but the TV receives no signal. I have recently upgrade my
kernel to 3.11.0.20-generic. Could his be the source of the problem ?

I found a workaround. For each ~saucy package which conflicts, invoke:

dpkg -P ...the.package.name...

And the retry the apt-get install which previously failed.

Same issue here. I've tried the aptitude way, which I originally thought
as working... but later on in the install the bug remanifested itself. I
have a root-mode ubuntu trusty in the meantime. It seems the last
package that blocks (in a severe way) the dist-upgrade to trusty.

Not sure if that would quality for showstopper, but it is a major
problem indeed. I had to uninstall gnome-settings-daemon and unity-
settings-daemon through aptitude then reinstall them before retrieving
some normality. I consider myself as expert user and it took me about a
half-hour to get through it. I expect most users to give a lot of bad
press instead.

[Bug 1279357] Re: package libebml4 (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: a tentar sobre-escrever '/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libebml.so.4', que também está no pacote libebml3:i386 1.3.0-0~ppa0

2014-04-14 Thread François Jacques
Could fix it by manually purging old version (libebml3) and all packages
depending on it, thanks to aptitude. For end-users upgrading, the
process will fail without hope to recover easily :-(

[Bug 1299829] Re: keyboard for Bambara not usable : name in evdev.xml points to Malayalam.

2014-04-06 Thread Jean-Jacques Méric
THANKS for progressing this. HINT : I work at INALCO which is the
biggest Language teaching University in France: Languages from all over
the world, attended by over 9,000 students.

The library (BULAC) runs hundreds of workstations, all under Ubuntu.

Switching keyboards here is done several times a day as students change seats !
Fixing the issue for Bambara will be very welcome !

identifying the right package
I followed through the doc for this, the only thing I could try was
terminal: xprop WM_CLASS
that only says gnome-control-center
terminal: locate -b \[executable name]
did not report anything

that's actually one of the elements under system preferences (in French:
Paramètres système
under text input methods (in French Saisie de texte)
but as I said : it's not a bug in there, the bug is in the data supplied in
rules\evdev.xml and \symbols file

[Bug 1299829] [NEW] keyboard for Bambara not usable : name in evdev.xml points to Malayalam.

2014-03-30 Thread Jean-Jacques Méric
Public bug reported:

I am dong research in africa, languages, I have little knowledge about
Linux/Ubuntu.
I have been implementing bambara keyboards for Windows and Mac OSX (with
Ukelele).

A year ago I noticed that I could not use the keyboard for Bambara, apparently
it was giving access to a strange asian language.
Since then, my Ubuntu computer is updated regularly, it now runs Ubuntu 13.10

I spent a lot of time yesterday, I share what I found :

1) the name in rules/edvdev.xml for this keyboard is ml
this code is actually the one for a language called Malayalam, spoken in
Kerala, south of India. Nothing to do with West Africa, and it's this language
alphabet which is displayed when a user selects the Bambara keyword.
I changed it to bm, which is the ISO 639-1 code. (I changed also the ! layout
section in evdev.lst)

2) the ml file in symbols is actually for Bambara! Some of the keys defined
are obsolete, it does not align with the keys used by other SIL.org keyboard,
but it is for bambara. I copied this file into a file called bm and renamed
ml as ml-old
I updated the bm file to align it to the SIL standards.

This fixed it... only partially :
the Malayalam keyboard does not display any longer when I select Bambara. I
does now display the bambara keyboard.
But : it still displays the one defined in the old ml file, not the one I
corrected in the bm file!!!

I messed up, restarted several times, to no avail : still the old obsolete
keyboard.
The only thing that works is that I can now use the keyboard variant which is
defined in my bm as French (Mali, alternative) with my new keys
definitions.
When I add the basic Bambara keyboard, it displays the old layout. In the
drop down list of keyboard at the top right of the screen, it is there... but
greyed out.
French (Mali, alternative) is OK for my personal use, but my objective is to
make it available generally as Bambara.

Please help. Of cours I'm OK to supply the bm file

Jean-Jacques, Paris

[Bug 1299829] Re: keyboard for Bambara not usable : name in evdev.xml points to Malayalam.

2014-03-30 Thread Jean-Jacques Méric
Hi there
I have made a little progress understanding why my changes do not take place.
in fact, it works all right (almost)
- le bm keyboard is no longer greyed out if the labels in the bm file,
evdev.xml and evdev.lst are aligned
I made them all Bambara (Mali) and French (Mali, Bambara)-this is better
than French (Mali, alternative) !
and it works
- the last thing that does not work is the dispay of layout of the keyboard :
it still show the old layout sa defined the ml file... but it works ok as
defined in the new corrected bm file

I'm attaching the files (zipped) that go under X11/KBD/rules (evdev.xml
and evdev.lst) and X11/KBD/symbols (bm)

at the minute I still have a problem with the ALTGR+, which sould
produce a GRAVE ACCENT (U0060) but still gives the former definition of
the key : bizarely, change takes time!

I am having this problem under ubuntu 12.04, on a machine where the latest
gnome-control-center for that release (1:3.4.2-0ubuntu0.13.1) is installed.
I would like to know if installing the later package 3.6.3-0ubuntu0.53 or
similar is possible and if it would help.

[Bug 1230031] Re: dbus-daemon consumes 100% cpu without reason

2013-12-23 Thread Jacques du Preez
Same problem here. Ubuntu unity 13.10. 100% cpu on startup, fans kick in
immediately. Have to kill dbus-deamon to correct. Checking the internet
I have seen people complaining about this issue since 2009 on various
distributions including Ubuntu and OpenSuse? Hope this Bug gets fixed
soon, very nervy!

[Bug 1176062] Re: System usually crashes when starting Firefox and/or Thunderbird

2013-08-30 Thread Jacques Belin
Just to let you know that I have axactly the same problem and symptoms
(freeze with pattern of horizontal bars appearing on the screen) than
Greg Supina., on two very different computers (One Intel and one AMD).

Ubuntu 13.4 fresh installs, less than one month ago.

But the common point with Greg is that these two computers are setup
with two disks. MInes have Windows Vista on the first one, and Ubuntu on
the second. Boot directly from the second hard drive (where grub is).

If you want I can provide you with more details.

[Bug 993655] Re: Unity looses mouse click handler when using enabling USB headset

2013-04-18 Thread Jacques Burger
Turns out this is a XORG issue.

Fixed it by creating a file called 50-plantronics.conf in
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d with the following content:

Section InputClass
Identifier Plantronics
MatchVendor Plantronics
Option Ignore true
EndSection

This gets X to ignore the Plantronics device, which makes the mouse
problem go away.

Unfortunatly this also seem to stop the MIC from working so I need to
figure ouy how to get that better.

Hopefully somebody makes more progress and has some more advice soon.

Thanks Jevonearth, was just about to test the newer kernel, now I don't
have to.

Could a guru script something up that can detect state change and run
that command as needed?

That way we can use the Plantronics at least a little for now until a
permanent fix is available.

[Bug 1118276] [NEW] wrong IPv6 addresse

2013-02-07 Thread Jean-Jacques Sarton
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.04-2 LTS

The system is attached to a server which provide IPv6 and the addresses
shall be assigned by the dhcpv6 server

The addresses the if get are always the address confirmed by the dhcpv6
server, a temporary address and finally a SLAAC address.

I expect only the dhcpv6 assigned address.

Setting net.ipv6.conf.*.tmpaddr to 0 don't help, the network manager set
this again to 2 for the concerned interface.

[Bug 978120] Re: Toshiba Estudio 230 printer driver bug

2012-12-17 Thread Jacques Blain
Till

I also confirm that your two commands indeed seem to totally fix the
printing problem with the Toshiba 230. However, I also have an extremely
slow printing speed now.

[Bug 978120] Re: Toshiba Estudio 230 printer driver bug

2012-12-13 Thread Jacques Blain
Ok, in 12.10 64 bit straight install on a Toshiba Studio 230

Printing simply does not work as per my original post (top of the
thread)

If I do

 lpadmin -p printer-name-here -o pdftops-renderer-default=pdftops

Then printing seems to work but it does not really. If I try to print
the attached file for instance

Print all pages -- Only the first page prints and the nothing else
Print pages 2 to 5 -- I get 4 blank pages, no errors nothing
Print page 6 to 29 -- I get nothing, no errors

Does this info help to narrow down the problem ?

Regard

Jacques Blain

Re: [Bug 978120] Re: Toshiba Estudio 230 printer driver bug

2012-12-13 Thread Jacques Blain
I am not sure I understand exactly what you want me to try ? If I try to
print the Hello World .ps file in post #44 it works file form with Linux
12.10. So I do not need to do

lpr -P printer name -oraw ko-nodebug-cut001.ps, since there is no
problem

I also cannot send the problem file (the one I attached in my post raw,
since it is a PDF file). BTW I can also confirm that a windows computer on
the same network prints out my attached file on this printer without any
problems. So the printer is working.

Any additionnal tests I might run ?

Regards

Jacques Blain

 No, it does not.

If you run the test I posted in comment #44 and report the results, that
*would* help narrow down the problem.

2012-12-13 Thread Jacques Blain
I did follow your instructions exactly as you gave them (follow my test in
post #44)

lpr -P printer name -oraw ko-nodebug-cut001.ps works perfectly I get the
Hello World printout

I then answered your question exactly : So, how are you printing the PS
file in post #44 if not with the lpr
command?

Well then if I wanted to do that I would : have to double click on it...
etc

I am sorry if that was not clear. Now what ?

wrote:

Opening the file in Document Viewer and printing it from there is
completely useless in context because it just goes through the CUPS
filters, which I specifically said we needed to avoid for this test.

Your original problem, as reported, came about as a result of changing
the CUPS Postscript generation from a Poppler based solution to a
Ghostscript based solution - this was done to allow future use of high
fidelity color reproduction, and some other features available in
Ghostscript that were not going to be available in Poppler in the near
 future.

As often happens with such a change, a few teething troubles have come
up, hence Till allowed a fallback to the the Poppler tools while we work
 through them.

 The:
 lpadmin -p printer -o pdftops-renderer-default=pdftops

setting is that fallback - it does not solve anything, at best it works
 around the problem.

I am trying to establish what needs done to get the Ghostscript output
compatible with your printer, so sending a file to the printer via CUPS
with the poppler based filter in force does nothing to help me (or,
 ultimately, yourself!).

*PLEASE*, when I give instructions for testing, do not ignore them - I
 write them for a reason...

[Bug 1068661] Re: 1002:6740 Unity does not load after installing fglrx-installer-updates Radeon HD 6700M Series w/ 8086:0116 Intel Integrated Card

2012-11-18 Thread Warren Jacques
I have some of these problems on Radeon HD7750 12.10 Quantal - fglrx-
updates from the repository works, but not as well as 12.8 from the ATI
website in 12.04 Precise which works fine (I get strange flickery
effects in X-Plane Flight Sim under certain conditions in Quantal).

If I try to install drivers from ATI website (tried 12.9 beta and 12.10
final) I get no Unity.

If I install fglrx from the repository (not the updates) I also get no
Unity.

Hardware: Gigabyte Z77-D3H, Ivy Bridge Intel® Core™ i5-3450S CPU @
2.80GHz × 4, 8GB Corsair RAM, Sapphire Radeon HD7750.

[Bug 1003508] Re: gma500_gfx doesn't support icc profiles

2012-11-06 Thread Jacques Peron
I found a solution : the problem comes, as I think, from fbdev, that is
used by default and doesn't correctly handle xrandr. By using
modesetting driver, it works.

Here is what I did :
− I installed xserver-xorg-video-modesetting from xorg-edgers ppa ;
− I put that in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/00-modesetting.conf (create it if it
doesn't exist) :
Section Device
Identifier gma500_gfx
Driver modesetting
Option SWCursor ON
EndSection

2012-09-18 Thread ROUY jacques
Thanks for your help.

/etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld was probably modified but I dont know
how.

I have found another file : /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld.dpkg-dist
and copied in /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld the missing statments.

Then I have executed sudo apt-get install --reinstall apparmor and all
is OK.

Thank you very much !

So long !

Thanks for the prompt reply. Errno 13 means there was a permission
denied operation. In fact I see in your kern.log the apparmor denials of
 very fundamental operations for mysqld.

Is it possible you've modified or manually removed
 /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.mysqld ?

If you have, you may want to move any file out of the way, and reinstall
 mysql-common:

 dpkg --force-confmiss -i /var/cache/apt/archives/mysql-

[Bug 989689] Re: Synaptics touchpad stops working

2012-06-26 Thread Jacques Blain
I have also had the same problem on a Dell M11X for the longest time. I
think it started with 10.10, am now up to 12.04. it never went away. boy
it would be really nice to have a fix. For now I just carry a spare usb
mouse with my portable :-(

[Bug 907229] Re: Compiz after resume : stucked windows with big arrows decoration

2012-05-25 Thread Jacques
I've just seen this bug with 12.04 on a macbook air 4.2...

I've found the culprit :

* Start compiz confg manager
* Scroll to the end
* Deselect Unity MT tab handles

Et voilà ! Another epic compiz adventure.

[Bug 988583] Re: grub-mount hangs when update-grub is ran

2012-05-24 Thread Jacques
Same bug here on MacBook air mid 2011. Very annoying.

Indeed, trying to replace grub-mound executable from QQ repository does
not help. I've seen some exchanges on the web between what seems to be
the developers of grub and they seemed to be happy about the correction
of this bug. Have someone found where is the source of this corrected
version of grub-mount and how to compile it under PP ?

Thanks,
Jacques

[Bug 988583] Re: grub-mount hangs when update-grub is ran

2012-05-24 Thread Jacques
Meanwhile, I managed to compile grub-mount from the source repository
of grub (http://www.gnu.org/software/grub/) with the lastest known
version (bzr branch http://bzr.savannah.gnu.org/r/grub/trunk/grub). I
replaced the buggy ubuntu binary with the one I just compiled...and it
works !

You can just download this executable and copy it in /usr/bin to fix
this issue on this webpage :

http://newlsiit.u-strasbg.fr/avr_fr/index.php/12.04_LTS_on_MacBook_Air_mid_2011

After refit I have now the standard grub boot menu allowing me to select
various boot option (Linux, memtest, Mac OSX, ...)
