[Bug 907109] [NEW] qt creator package doesn't depend on a c++ compiler
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 11.10, when installing qt creator through the software center or synaptic, it can't find a toolchain because a c++ compiler isn't specified as a dependency, but of course needed. [Bug 77010] Re: Overuse of system beep without volume control
I would go so far as to say that we NEVER want to play the system beep during the course of a normal graphical session; sometimes it is so loud, users look as if they had received an electric shock That was exactly my point, too ;) Which I wrote here 2 and a half years ago. Still the same with intrepid. I installed it and entered proxy settings in the installer. They weren't transferred to the proxy configuration applet but only port 8080. [Bug 85816] Re: Bootloader should be installed to the partition instead of the mbr
So what's the bugtracker then for? I'd like to post this directly to the devs, not to discuss this with thousands of users where everyone has its own opinion. Sure, if the devs don't like the suggestion it's no problem for me,but posting into the mailing list doesn't have any effect. To summarize I can give you two arguments against installing into the MBR: 1. Operating systems shouldn't touch the MBR, which usually just boots the active partition. The OSes should have their initialisation in their bootsectors. This is how all other OSes (including Windows) do it. This has the advantage that installing a new operating system doesn't destroy the initialisation code of the others. Windows for example just writes the standard MBR on installing. If you have an ubuntu installation with GRUB in the MBR you have to reinstall GRUB, if GRUB is in the bootsector all you have to do is setting the linux partition as active. 2. It's difficult (at least for non-experienced users) to restore the standard MBR, for example when deleting linux. With GRUB in the bootsector the partition can be removed and all traces of the bootmanager are also gone. Apart from that it's completely the same for the users, so I can't understand why ubuntu installs into the MBR by default. -- Bootloader should be installed to the partition instead of the mbr https://launchpad.net/bugs/85816 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 88372] Support automatic proxy detection with WPAD
Public bug reported: The proxy support (on Edgy) istn't really complete, since WPAD isn't supported. It would be nice to have an automatic proxy detection option in the proxy settings, which gets the proxy values with WPAD (e.g. by using http://wpad/wpad.dat as the source) on every startup and set the gconf and environment variables accordingly. Another change would be that firefox uses these values instead of having its own proxy detection (this is done e.g. in SuSE) by introducin a new option use system proxy setting in firefox. [Bug 85816] Bootloader should be installed to the partition instead of the mbr
Public bug reported: Currently (at least on edgy) the bootloader (GRUB) is installed into the MBR of the drive. IMHO this has several disadvantages. If installing another OS (like Windows or another Linux distro) the MBR often gets overwritten, and it's rather hard to restore GRUB. The best way IMHO would be to install GRUB into the boot sector of the root partition, and setting this partition as active. IMHO ubuntu should in the next version support all mouse buttons which exist (I don't know if this is a ubuntu or firefox limitation) ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- [Edgy] Forth mouse button isn't supported https://launchpad.net/bugs/79339 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 79261] [Edgy] Printing with Epson C86 very slow
Public bug reported: I've set up the C86 with Standard settings. Compares to windows the printing looks equal but is very slow. It seems that the printer prints smaller lines compared to windows. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- [Edgy] Printing with Epson C86 very slow https://launchpad.net/bugs/79261 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 79057] [Edgy] Resolution set to 800x600 if no monitor connected
Public bug reported: This occured with my Dell Latitude D600 in a docking station. Perhaps this also applies to regular Computers. When the monitor isn't connected on boot-up or is switched off the resolution of the desktop is set to 800x600. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- [Edgy] Resolution set to 800x600 if no monitor connected https://launchpad.net/bugs/79057 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 79068] [Edgy] Entering ^^ needs 4 hits

[Bug 78208] Re: Session should be saved on logout
It's common e.g. in KDE that the session is saved on logout (you can't switch it off at all). Usually there are no apps open when you logout, and it's IMHO a very intuitive thing that the apps that were open at logout are present at login again. There's another thing (which is a little bit more important). Many apps such as gaim (or skype) rely on session management since it's common on linux systems. I mean that e.g. gaim has no option to start minimized or in tray. The developers say that gaim supports session management and that's enough, so all the user has to do is to start it one-time. When you restart the system gaim will keep the last status, window state, position and so on. -- Session should be saved on logout https://launchpad.net/bugs/78208 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 78702] Re: [Edgy] Command can't be run as root in the GUI
OK I'll look about a spec. The problem is that on a default ubuntu installation there's no run command in the system menu any more. This was a very nice feature. -- [Edgy] Command can't be run as root in the GUI https://launchpad.net/bugs/78702 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 78687] Re: [Edgy] Default font in Firefox too big
Of course :) When I enter www.wetter.de there are rendering errors in the various boxes in the upper part of the screen. The font is too big, so the contents don't fit into one line (of the box) so they're wrapped and the whole contents of the box don't fit the height of the box any more. Hitting CTRL-- will change the font to a smaller value, so the font is fine. The font size should be the same as in firefox under windows IMHO so that there are no such errors any more. -- [Edgy] Default font in Firefox too big https://launchpad.net/bugs/78687 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 52537] Re: Firefox Locales should install locale specific search plugins
I also vote for this. When installing a german version of Edgy I have search engines like answers.com which are just not applicable for (many) german users. [Bug 78854] [Edgy] Upgradability broken when removing one of the included apps
Public bug reported: When I remove one of the core ubuntu apps (because I don't like it and I don't want to have useless apps on my system) I remove the core ubuntu package which leads to problems when upgrading. Further I can't remove those apps from the install/remove app because the core ubuntu package depends on them. I suggest to find a better way with upgrading and to remove the core package in future versions. When upgrading only the installed packages should be upgraded. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- [Edgy] Upgradability broken when removing one of the included apps https://launchpad.net/bugs/78854 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 78687] [Edgy] Default font in Firefox too big
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: firefox The font which is set by default is very bug, and so there are problems with several websites (such was www.n24.de and www.wetter.de) which immediately disappear when I decrease the font size (so these are no firefox rendering errors). Another thing that I noticed, when I go to the font settings there's no font selected in the appropriate field, so I guess firefox chooses an arbitrary one. There should be a default font set. ** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- [Edgy] Default font in Firefox too big https://launchpad.net/bugs/78687 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 78702] [Edgy] Command can't be run as root in the GUI
Public bug reported: As I understand the goal of ubuntu is making linux easy for users, so that they don't have to use the console. What I miss in Edgy is an easy way to run a command as root withput using sudo in a terminal. I mean e.g. running gedit nautilus as root. E.g. the run command dialog could be extended to support that and be added again. I don't know why you removed it from the menu, this was a very great feature especially for windows users. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- [Edgy] Command can't be run as root in the GUI https://launchpad.net/bugs/78702 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
