[Bug 199030] Re: Can't close SCIM
Commets about the newly proposed patch by Arne: 1. The update-alternatives setting reset should be put into some if [ $1 = configure ]; ...; fi test, otherwise the command would be unconditionally executed, and not desired for situations such as abort- upgrade. 2. For the same reason, the old version $2 should be checked, so that it only attempts to do this heavy-handing fix when upgrading from known-to- be-broken versions. 3. I am still not quite sure whether preinst or postinst is the correct place. I would have put it in preinst. [Bug 191451] Re: Bad default choices for Vietnamese installation
Attached is my COMPLETELY UNTESTED patch to show what I think changes need to be done for GTK+. Please don't apply it unless some Vietnamese user has confirmed that it does what he/she desires. I also don't quite understand how input method choosing works after the backporting of the change in GTK+ 2.16 that makes the right-click menu shows System instead of what $GTK_IM_MODULE specifies, so this patch may be on the wrong path. [Bug 197562] [NEW] Please sync xfonts-wqy 0.9.9-3 from Debian unstable main to hardy universe
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xfonts-wqy This is a sync request for new Debian version (the same upstream version), so I assume it doesn't break Feature Freeze and needs no exception requests. If that's not the case, let me know. Source package name: xfonts-wqy Version to sync: 0.9.9-3 Place to sync from: Debian unstable main I did the previous 0.9.9-2ubuntu1 merge, the only change in 0.9.9-2ubuntu1 (compared with 0.9.9-2) is: - fixing the conffile handling so that package upgrading won't delete modified conffile (Debian bug 457423) - included in 0.9.9-3 version of Debian package - therefore can be dropped, so overriding Ubuntu change is OK The other new changes in 0.9.9-3 are: - patching the fontconfig configuration so that this font won't have high priorities in many locales (Debian bug 456376) - removing unused font alias file - reverting correct, but unnecessary (in the new Debian maintainer's opinion) documentation changes - adding watch file The first change is the main reason for this sync request. Without this fix, this font will become the default UI font for many users once it's installed, which is probably an unpleasant surprise. [Bug 197621] [NEW] Feature Freeze exception request for apt-xapian-index
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: apt-xapian-index Dear MOTU release team, I'd like to request a Feature Freeze exception for package apt-xapian- index. The current version in hardy is 0.4, while the current version in Debian unstable is 0.6. This is a new package introduced in hardy (doesn't exist in gutsy or earlier releases), the only reverse dependency is ept-cache, so the risk is relatively small. I don't know much about this package, but from what I can see, the version in hardy doesn't work at all. There are two crash bugs reported against it in LP (bug #178726 and bug #194731). I have confirmed that the new version in Debian unstable fixes #178726, and the reporter of #194731 says the new version fixes that bug as well. In my opinion it would be best to just sync the new version in Debian instead of trying to apply individual patches, since we are still before Beta release. The requested information for FF exception reqeust will be attached. Since it's a native package, the debian/changelog entries are provided as upstream changes. I've built the 0.6 version in a hardy pbuilder and installed it on a hardy system. The full FF exception + request is kept below, and exception has been granted by the MOTU + release team. + + Source package name: apt-xapian-index + Version to sync: 0.6 + Place to sync from: Debian unstable main + + Dear MOTU release team, I'd like to request a Feature Freeze exception for package apt-xapian- index. It fixes the crash for me, and seems to be working fine. -- Please sync apt-xapian-index 0.6 from Debian unstable main to hardy universe https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/197621 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

However, Debian maintainers never intended to support (in a stable release sense) both octave2.9 and octave3.0, they filed the Request for Removal bug for octave2.9 the same day octave3.0 enters unstable. My upgrade path comment is mainly about the octave meta-package. Now both unstable and hardy's octave depends on octave2.9. With octave3.0 installed, you need to use octave3.0 command to invoke the 3.0 version. To make my position clear: I am all for including octave 3.0 in hardy, however to sync the unstable package as is doesn't seem to be an adequate, or even correct solution. [Bug 178702] Re: Please sync xfonts-wqy 0.9.9-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)
I am rejecting this bug as I've just uploaded 0.9.9-2ubuntu1, merging Debian changes and adding proper conffile handling. The changelog is: xfonts-wqy (0.9.9-2ubuntu1) hardy; urgency=low * Merge from Debian unstable, dropping all previous Ubuntu changes: - Build-depend on xfonts-utils ( 4.0.3). Hardy has high enough version so the version requirement can be dropped. - Build-depend on debhelper (= 5.0.7) instead of (= 5.0.31). This is an error in previous merges, because debhelper (= 5.0.31) is needed for dh_installxfonts to recognize the new font layout used in X11R7. - Install fonts in /usr/share/X11/fonts/misc/ directory instead of /usr/share/fonts/X11/misc/. This is a completely bogus change, as pre-X11R7 layout uses /usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc/, and new layout uses /usr/share/fonts/X11/misc/ as Debian specified. The /usr/share/X11/fonts/misc/ directory doesn't seem to be recognized by anything. This change actually breaks the package because fonts.dir and fonts.alias files are not automatically generated, and X won't load the fonts from the wrong directory. * Move old conffile handling from postinst script to preinst script. Also check if the conffile is locally modified. If it is, back it up and tell the user to review the local changes and add it to the new conffile instead of just delete it. (Debian bug #457423) * Change the Maintainer field in debian/control to Ubuntu MOTU Developers, and move Debian's maintainer to XSBC-Original-Maintainer field, according to the specification. -- Ming Hua [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue, 01 Jan 2008 05:35:54 -0600 ** Changed in: xfonts-wqy (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Invalid -- Please sync xfonts-wqy 0.9.9-2 (universe) from Debian unstable (main) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/178702 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I disagree with the sync. Dapper has scim-bridge package, which builds a single binary package scim-bridge.
