[Bug 220511] Re: Graphical glitch in resource tab

2011-10-10 Thread Nobu
I've always had nVidia graphics (GeForce2 Go in my laptop, 7100GS in my
desktop; the integrated graphics are nv, too), so at least it was
present on some nVidia hardware.

I can't reproduce it now, though. I'm currently running Fedora 15 with
gnome-system-monitor version 3.0.0, kernel 2.6.40.4 and the nouveau
driver.

[Bug 684597] Re: USB devices fail to initialize/start when iphone plugged in

2011-03-12 Thread Nobu
Fabio Marconi, I'm pretty sure it was charging; that wasn't the issue.
The issue was that it was preventing other usb peripheral devices from
working.

I've recently reinstalled, and I'm running Maverick now. The iPhone does
not prevent other devices from working on Maverick.

lsusb lists it as follows:
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 05ac:1292 Apple, Inc. iPhone 3G

[Bug 684597] Re: USB devices fail to initialize/start when iphone plugged in

2011-03-12 Thread Nobu
This time, though, I installed a command-line system (lucid), then
installed the packages necessary for a graphical desktop (all of the
packages required by xubuntu-desktop, and some of the recommended ones),
then upgraded to Maverick. There shouldn't have been any changes from
that which could cause the iPhone to magically play nicely, though.

In a while, I'll convert my root to a btrfs volume and upgrade to Natty
in a snapshot to see if I can reproduce the bug again. I'll try not to
nuke my /boot this time (what caused me to reinstall; was trying to
chroot install fedora and accidentally did rm -r while /boot and /home
was bind mounted).

Nope, none of those are installed (and none are found by apt-cache,
except for ipheth-utils).

I think it's a bug anyway, since it should not prevent other devices
from functioning correctly. (I don't need to use the iphone, but it
needs to be plugged in to charge)

[Bug 684597] [NEW] USB devices fail to initialize/start when iphone plugged in

2010-12-02 Thread Nobu
Public bug reported:

b...@ben-ubuntu:~$ uname -rm
2.6.37-7-generic x86_64

b...@ben-ubuntu:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu natty (development branch)
Release:11.04

When the phone is plugged in (at least when it's off, maybe when it's on
too; haven't checked), my USB keyboard and mouse don't start working
until I unplug the phone or unless I wait a long time.

It's my brother's phone, and it doesn't show up in lsusb, so I don't
know which revision of iphone it is. It hadn't been doing this until
recently--though I hadn't been unplugging my keyboard, etc., or
rebooting while it was plugged in, so I may have just not encountered
the problem by chance. (I think) this also occurs on the latest Maverick
kernel (2.6.35...); I'd have to reboot to confirm.

Basically, get a bunch of this until I unplug the phone:

Re: [Bug 605577] Re: Help contents title bar shows cubes with numbers instead of a proper title

2010-09-19 Thread Nobu
In reply to Charlie Kravetz's comment #45:

To be clear, basically any (localized) text which isn't being rendered
in the html viewing area--button text, menu text, tool-tip text,
etc.--is effected. This has little impact on reading the current help
item and related items are still easily found, but it's still a big
accessibility issue for anyone who doesn't know or hasn't memorized (any
of) the menu items, icons, or keyboard shortcuts, in addition to being a
cosmetic issue.

Good to know this will be fixed before release. ;-)

[Bug 130979] Re: vbetool 100% cpu usage on resume

2009-05-08 Thread Nobu
Dimitrios Symeonidis, I am currently unable to suspend at all, so I
can't really confirm at this point.

Normal suspend just blanks the screen, and the computer never goes into
suspend mode (fans are still blowing, the power light stays solid on
instead of flashing like it usually does). I've attached the log file
which appears to have been created when it suspended. It seems to
indicate that suspend was successful, but no amount of key presses
brings it back, and pressing the power button doesn't do anything(except
turn it off, if you hold it). Pressing alt+SysRq+B reboots the computer,
so apparently the kernel is still functional.

My bios has an option to choose S1, S3, or both for suspend; I'm not
sure which I should choose. I tried uswsusp's s2ram again, and that got
further if I did `s2ram -f --acpi_sleep 1` with the bios set to S3, but
that would hang on resume with the power light still flashing and the
kernel unresponsive.

I'll try modifying the file and attempting suspend again, and see if
that works.

[Bug 318176] Re: There should be a way to pause upgrade manager

I was wondering, why Bug #155248 was marked as a duplicate of this bug,
even though it was reported before this one?

I don't really mind, but I'm curious.

[Bug 363227] Re: throbber not visible, epiphany-browser

2009-04-19 Thread Nobu
Apparently, it's related to the theme engine I was using.

The separator (don't know if I can call it that, now) is not visible
when using Taqua, New Wave, Murrina, Mist, Loma, Inverted, Human,
Glossy, Dust, DarkRoom, or Clearlooks, nor their derivatives. It's
visible in most all of the others.

That said, can this be resolved by a change in code of the application,
or is it invalid?

[Bug 363227] Re: throbber not visible, epiphany-browser

2009-04-18 Thread Nobu
Well, it doesn't necessarily have to. I just thought it seemed odd that
there was a separator there when there's nothing to separate, so I
thought it was a bug (i.e.: something was missing, or it shouldn't be
there). Of course, it didn't cross my mind that it might have supposed
to not be there until you replied, but it does make sense.

Personally, I see no need for a separator there. If someone wants one,
they can add it. Otherwise, it just doesn't belong.

Note: I have tried going into Customize Toolbar and removing it, but
it is indeed a hard-coded separator.

[Bug 363227] [NEW] throbber not visible, epiphany-browser

2009-04-17 Thread Nobu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: epiphany-browser

Ubuntu Jaunty (9.04)

The throbber in epiphany-browser is not displaying correctly:

When all pages are loaded and the browser is doing nothing, the GNOME
Foot image/throbber is missing. The circular loading (or busy)
throbber is visible when a page is loading, though.

See attached screenshot. Notice the blank space on the right. Ignore the
tooltip (it's difficult doing a selection screenshot in GIMP before a
page finishes loading. ;-) )

[Bug 353311] [NEW] smuxi leaves window list when minimized and notification icon enabled

2009-04-01 Thread Nobu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: smuxi

What is expected: When minimized, smuxi remains in the task-bar. There
is an option to choose when it is shown in the notification area, and an
option to choose whether it is removed from the task-bar on minimize or
not.

What happens: When minimized, smuxi disappears from the task-bar and
goes into the notification area. There appears to be no option to change
this behavior; only an option to change whether the icon displays in the
notification area when minimized. Enabling notification on minimize
(unexpectedly) removes the application from the task-bar also when
minimized.

2009-02-24 Thread Nobu
According to the Installation Instructions[0], you should remove any
gstreamer0.10-fluendo* packages before installing the gstreamer0.10
-fluendo-plugins package:

'Note: If you have previously installed free Fluendo codecs (you can tell if
this is the case by
going to System Administration Synaptic Package Manager and searching for
packages
starting with “gstreamer0.10-fluendo”) you may need to remove these packages
before
installing [from] the Debian patch store. You can do this by going to System
Administration
Synaptic Package Manager and searching for and removing any packages starting
with
“gstreamer0.10-fluendo”.'

In other words, I'd first remove the 'gstreamer0.10-fluendo-mpegdemux'
package (and any other conflicting gstreamer packages), then install the
'gstreamer0.10-fluendo-plugins' package.

I hope that helps; I don't know if you still have this problem(It has
been a while), but I thought I'd send a reply in case you or anyone else
still had this problem.

[Bug 155248] Re: [Wishlist] Add pause feature to dist-upgrade

2009-02-07 Thread Nobu
Thanks, and I'm sorry about that; I guess it appeared to be the correct
place at the time.

bug #217936 is indeed similar, but not the same. That bug is a request
for a way to delay the upgrade until a later time, *before* it even
starts.

This bug (155248) is a request for a way to pause or otherwise stop the
upgrade and be able to continue without having to download the various
files required in order to do a dist-upgrade over again. The feature
would allow people who have a bad connection to pause the upgrade until
they can reconnect to the network or give their router time to recover
(cool down).

Thanks again, and I hope that clears up your question. If you would like
any more input, feel free to ask.

2008-08-22 Thread Nobu
I just tried unplugging my usb wireless adapter and plugging it in
again, and it did cause nm-applet to disappear, but I received no
notification of a crash(does it notify you if you are on a non
administrative desktop or if it has already been reported?). I did get
some messages in daemon.log(attached).

btw, we are using different Belkin adapters and drivers, so it would be
a software problem if it is related.

[Bug 220511] Re: Graphical glitch in resource tab

2008-06-24 Thread Nobu
I also experience this glitch. After mouse-over the graphic looks normal again.
When I switch back to the processes tab, close system-monitor, open it again,
and switch back to the resources tab the anomaly is visible again.

This is on Hardy(AMD64) with all current updates.

I commented on the Gnome bug as well, but I thought maybe I should have
done it here, since I am using Ubuntu.

[Bug 192012] Re: Firefox meta and language-support-en conflict

2008-05-12 Thread Nobu
This bug report isn't even for Firefox-2; the only thing related to it
is mozilla-firefox-locale-en-gb 2.0.0.7+1-0ubuntu2, which was required
by some package.

As stated in a previous comment, this bug has been fixed already. If it
hasn't then that's news to me. Thanks for closing the bug, anyway.

[Bug 192012] Re: Firefox meta and language-support-en conflict

2008-05-12 Thread Nobu
At the time, that source package would not be correct because it was the
firefox (meta)package that lists mozilla-firefox-locale-en-gb
2.0.0.7+1-0ubuntu2 as
a conflict. That, and in the description of the firefox package, it says,

This is a meta package that will point to the latest firefox package in ubuntu.
Don't remove this if you want to receive automatic major version upgrades for
this package in the future.
(Currently firefox-3, right?)

The bug(apparently it's not, but it was a problem that needed to be
addressed at the time by a package maintainer) was in the dependencies
of either the firefox (meta)package, not the firefox-3 package, or the
language-support-en (meta)package. The problem being either language
support or the firefox (meta)package would have to be removed(which is
not recommended in the description quoted above).

But I guess it doesn't really matter anymore, since it has resolved
itself somehow.

[Bug 197130] Re: [hardy] Black X screen and system halt after installing linux-rt

2008-03-25 Thread Nobu
That's fair enough, I guess. ^.^

Ah, I didn't notice it stopped there... Of course I wasn't really
looking for the GLX extension, but if I had looked harder, I'm sure I
would have noticed everything after it that was missing(Don't know how I
missed that in the first place). So it seems it is the same thing... I
wonder if it would continue if I disabled the GLX extension in my
Xorg.conf file... It wouldn't prove much, but I guess I'll give it a go.

[Bug 197130] Re: [hardy] Black X screen and system halt after installing linux-rt

2008-03-25 Thread Nobu
@exactt:

Nope, it's not falling back to anything for us. We don't get any
picture. The screen remains black (It's still transmitting a signal
though, because my monitor doesn't say No signal) and the only way to
escape is by either manually cycling the system's power, or sending a
SysRq (SysRq + B reboots... It doesn't unmount anything before, so I
don't know if it's much safer, but it's got to be better than pulling
out the power from under your system, right?).

Anyway, not a duplicate.

Also note: If you set the driver to the nv(not nvidia) driver, it will
fall back to vesa if there are any problems; otherwise it will work
correctly.

2008-03-24 Thread Nobu
Neither bugs you've marked as duplicates seem to actually be duplicates.

In Bug #206207 you can restart by pressing ctrl+backspace and
ctrl+alt+del. So, unless you retract your statement that it is
impossible to restart that way, it is either a different bug or you are
mistaken.

In Bug # 205927 Xorg actually crashes, which is not the behavior you are
describing here(Here, Xorg is hanging, which, technically, is not a
crash).

I can, however, confirm that this bug does occur.

Hmmm... My log is slightly different, though I experience the same
thing. (The blank screen and inability to use ctrl+alt+del to reboot)

Attached is the two log files combined into one file. Use find(or ctrl+w
in nano) and search for -rt kernel or 2.) to get to the second
log(or the end of the first).

For me, it appears to load the driver, but for whatever reason it
doesn't display anything... Should I file a new bug, or is this still
the same thing?

[Bug 192012] [NEW] Firefox meta and language-support-en conflict

2008-02-14 Thread Nobu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox

Versions:
 language-support-en: 1:7.04+20070209
 firefox(meta package): 3.0~b3+nobinonly-0ubuntu1

The firefox meta package lists mozilla-firefox-locale-en-gb 2.0.0.7+1-0ubuntu2
as
a conflict. However, the version of language-support-en listed above has this
version of mozilla-firefox-locale-en-gb listed as a dependency(according to
aptitude, and apparently synaptic to), so the firefox meta package is removed
when you try to install the language-support-en package. If you install the
firefox
meta package anyway, then the language-support-en package is removed and
the English locale packages are no longer 'required', and thus removed(unless
manually installed).

Is this the desired effect, or did something go seriously wrong in the
dependencies?

[Bug 123958] Re: hardinfo crashes with glib error

2007-11-07 Thread Nobu
Seems fixed in svn 168 of hardinfo. I've gone through each menu entry
and it hasn't crashed. I've also let it stay open for a while without it
crashing. Anyone else that can confirm this?

[Bug 130979] Re: vbetool 100% cpu usage on resume

2007-08-19 Thread Nobu
Well, it's not a notebook. ^.^
The motherboard is a Biostar GeForce 6100 AM2. As shown above, I'm using a
64-bit Processor and the 64-bit version of Ubuntu. It is completely possible
that other people experience this as well, but don't know because they have a
single core processor and the computer locks up because vbetool is using all of
it.
I'm using the latest nVidia drivers installed through Envy, because I had
trouble installing them any other way, if that may have anything to do with it.
My video card is an nVidia GeForce 7100 GS.

If you need any more information I'll be glad to provide it. I had also
noticed that the x40 notebooks had a similar problem(I was searching the
bugs to look for others who might have the same problem.) but it wasn't
exactly the same and since I didn't have a thinkpad(Or notebook, for
that matter) I thought it would be better to file a new bug.

[Bug 130979] Re: vbetool 100% cpu usage on resume

2007-08-19 Thread Nobu
Well, it's not working at all anymore... Probably some file I edited and
forgot about. I'm going to try reinstalling Ubuntu and see if it works
on a fresh install, vbetool acts up, or it doesn't work at all.

As for what it's doing now: When I resume the power light blinks for a
little while, turns solid for a few seconds, then starts blinking again
and doesn't stop after. Anyway, I have most of the stuff I want to keep
on a separate partition so I don't have to worry about that being
removed(Would like a separate drive for backup though.) and I can open
synaptic and get a list of installed packages so I don't have to worry
about that either. ^.^

I'll reinstall, check suspend before installing anything extra, then get
situated... I'll probably check suspend in the Live CD as well, but
since it has outdated packages it won't be a complete give-away. Wish me
luck. ^.^

[Bug 130979] Re: vbetool 100% cpu usage on resume

2007-08-19 Thread Nobu
I tried again after reinstalling and it didn't work. I seem to remember using
uswsusp in order to get suspend working, but I'm not sure.
As far as this try goes, I have the syslog attached for anyone to look at. I'll
try installing uswsusp and trying again to see if I get the expected results so
that I can pursue this bug.

While I'm at it, should I file a bug about the issue I'm having now? It
is a different problem, since I could at one point use suspend properly
and it apparently doesn't have anything to do with vbetool.

[Bug 130979] Re: vbetool 100% cpu usage on resume

2007-08-19 Thread Nobu
Even with uswsusp suspend (Using s2ram) still isn't working for me. I'm
really stumped about why it won't work now... I'd say it's because of my
recently installed dual-core processor but it was working after
installing it. I would say that it's due to me using the 64-bit version
of Ubuntu, but that can't be right either, since I'm pretty sure I was
using that then as well.

Either way, I can't figure it out. I can use s2disk, with uswsusp, and
it resumes fine.

If anybody has a hint, it'd be nice. ^.^

[Bug 130979] vbetool 100% cpu usage on resume

2007-08-07 Thread Nobu
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vbetool

When I choose to suspend the computer it seems to work. The monitor goes
blank, the power light starts blinking, and the fans turn off. When I
turn the computer back on the screen remains blank and I must use ctrl +
alt + (some function key) then ctrl + alt + F7 to get back to a desktop.
After logging in not everything loads and the CPU usage of one of my two
cores is 100% constantly(And alternating every few seconds between the
two). When I open gnome-system-monitor and set it to show all processes
it shows vbetool running at 50%(Or 100% of one of the two cores).
Killing vbetool causes the screen to blank, where I can use the ctrl +
alt + Fn then ctrl + alt + F7 key combinations to return to my desktop,
with the CPU usage back to normal.

[Bug 24353] cpufreq inspiron 8100

2007-07-10 Thread Nobu
Seems my solution has hit a snag... It does work correctly but after
shutting down and restarting the laptop it sets the range of the
processor to 667 MHz to 667 MHz. Which wouldn't be a problem except your
laptop will be running slightly slow. To fix this you just have to type
the command 'cpufreq-set -d 667MHz -u 866MHz'. with administrative
privileges. Other than that it works fine.

[Bug 24353] Re: Incorrect module loaded... (Possible solution) powernowd bug

2007-07-05 Thread Nobu
I've followed a guide on this page
http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Feisty#CPU.

Unfortunately it involves removing powernowd. But I believe that
removing it isn't necessary(Isn't there a script that powernowd runs
which controls what modules are loaded?). It seems to be working(There
aren't any more errors coming from cpufreq and according to the scaling
monitor it is scaling down when there isn't a need for all the power).

I believe the key is loading the extra modules for each setting(Which I
think is often left out) rather than just loading the acpi-cpufreq
module.

Anyway, if someone else could confirm this it would be nice. Maybe it
could even be fixed before the next release. ^.^

when I put in 'grep -q 'Intel .*ICH' $IOPORTS ; echo $?' it just sits
there. when I input Ctrl+c it outputs 130. I don't know the significance
of this, but I hope it's useful. It doesn't seem to matter how long I
wait, but if you wish I can leave it over night and see what happens.

[Bug 24353] Re: Incorrect module loaded on Pentium III Mobile

2007-06-29 Thread Nobu
Also, I forgot to add. I'm also running an Inspiron 8100 laptop. It
seems to be running fine with the speedstep-smi module loaded, but it's
a little slow(No pauses, but the actual speed is down. This is after
installing cpufreqd/removing powernowd, then removing
cpufreqd/installing powernowd. I had wanted to see if the other worked
better. It didn't. x.x). I'm going to reboot my laptop and see if the
speed improves a little since I've done this. What would I need to do in
order to load the speedstep-smi module at boot? I want to see if it is
actually working with that module of if this is just a fluke. ^.^
