[Bug 2060531] Re: Noble update: v6.8.3 upstream stable release

2024-05-26 Thread OmniUni
Confirming that this fixes issues with microphones on Lenovo laptops not
being detected. I installed the kernel from
https://kernel.ubuntu.com/mainline/v6.8.3/ and everything is now working
on my laptop. Lenovo laptops, like my T14s are fairly common, so I know
a LOT of people will appreciate this kernel going out!

[Bug 2067185] [NEW] Default NetworkManager Security Configuration for IPv6 Causes Severe Hang

2024-05-25 Thread OmniUni
Public bug reported:

After upgrading to 24.04 on my laptop, I noticed my boot was taking
about 2 minutes. After a lot of troubleshooting, I determined that when
I add a network connection through KDE, it has the IPv6 security set to
default. The default behavior is to apply IPv6 privacy settings. Running
NetPlan debug, this step takes around two minutes.

Setting the wireless connection configuration IPv6 privacy to
"disabled", my wireless connects instantly and my computer no longer
hangs for two minutes when booting.

When adding new wireless connections, however, the Plasma desktop also
freezes for about two minutes during this step until I can edit the
connection and disable the "default" privacy feature.

I'm not sure if this is due to a problem in KDE (should this setting be
disabled by default?) or in NetworkManager (should the "default"
configuration have this disabled?), in NetPlan (should it have something
in the default network configuration for all connections that set
`stable-privacy` (which seems to be the "disabled" option)?

Regardless, this process taking nearly two minutes, adding that to the
boot time, seems unacceptable.

[Bug 852349] Re: sqlite2 support

2011-10-22 Thread OmniUni
Unfortunately, there is still a lot of software that requires SQLite2,
and I still believe that it should be provided as long as people keep
having a need for it and major software (like RoundCube) require it. I
can see distributing it as a separate package that is not by default
included, but please leave us an option!

For those who are having a problem, I have tried to put together a
SQLite2 package to help fix the problem. Install the package, and
restart Apache. If it works or doesn't, or if you would like a 64bit
version, please let me know.

[Bug 744187] Re: [g45] Black screen on boot acer travelmate 5735Z, intel gma 4500mhd

2011-08-12 Thread OmniUni
Adding options acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=legacy in GRUB worked for
me on my friend's computer... mostly. Although the brightness buttons
can now control the backlight, Linux can't, and it still turns off once
in a while (though it's easy enough to turn back on)

I really hope this gets fixed soon, it's a pain, and makes Ubuntu look
pretty bad.

[Bug 663660] Re: KWin+Radeon+Latest Kernel AMD64 Constantly Crash

2010-11-23 Thread OmniUni
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

I am using Kubuntu 10.10 AMD64, fully up-to-date. Everything works well,
except for my graphics card. I have a Radeon X1250, and whenever I try
to load the KWin desktop effects, things crash. Before the last kernel
update, they would run for maybe 1-5 minutes before crashing, but with
the latest update, X is crashing before they even initialize. Graphics
acceleration is working well, and in fact things run (though slowly)
  using XRender.

I do not know where to begin in reporting this bug. I can confirm that
I'm not the only one; see:
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1594240

I am going to see if it is only a problem on AMD64 systems, but would
like to see this fixed. I will try to wait for a few days before
installing 32 bit to help troubleshoot if need be.

[Bug 663660] Re: KWin+Radeon+Latest Kernel AMD64 Constantly Crash

2010-11-05 Thread OmniUni
Still no fix to the problem. I've read that someone fixed it by
downgrading to the Karmic version of the graphics driver. This seems
like a poor solution. I would like to see this somehow tracked down and
fixed! if anyone can give me something to do that will help narrow down
what the problem actually is, I would be happy to do so.

[Bug 663660] Re: KWin+Radeon+Latest Kernel AMD64 Constantly Crash

2010-10-21 Thread OmniUni
Yes, I know I could use 10.04, as I have for the last six months, but I
would rather see a fix for this. KDE users with Radeon cards in the X
series are a decently sized group of people, and it's annoying to
upgrade to a new distribution (especially where your card has worked
perfectly well in the past) and find that your desktop continually
crashes.

Is there some log I can observe to see why X is crashing?

[Bug 484759] Re: KWin compositing disabled on login, very slow when enabled manually (with fglrx driver)

2010-10-21 Thread OmniUni
This is likely the backclear issue with the X server. AMD has a patch
that is integrated in a PPA that you can use, but I don't know if it
will still work with the new X server changes.

I'm running 32 bit now, with pre-released updates, and so far, so good.
Performance is excellent, so hopefully I won't experience any more
crashes. I'll post back here if it does crash again.

[Bug 663660] [NEW] KWin+Radeon+Latest Kernel AMD64 Constantly Crash

2010-10-19 Thread OmniUni
Public bug reported:

I am using Kubuntu 10.10 AMD64, fully up-to-date. Everything works well,
except for my graphics card. I have a Radeon X1250, and whenever I try
to load the KWin desktop effects, things crash. Before the last kernel
update, they would run for maybe 1-5 minutes before crashing, but with
the latest update, X is crashing before they even initialize. Graphics
acceleration is working well, and in fact things run (though slowly)
using XRender.

2010-10-19 Thread OmniUni
I booted the 32 bit live USB, and took a video so you can see the
problem. As you can see, performance is actually very good when it is
actually working, but the flickering is even worse in person. (The
camera kind of blends some of the flickers together)

You can actually recover the monitor by opening amdcccle in admin mode,
disabling the monitor, and re-enabling it. It's annoying, but it should
work.

[Bug 558923] Re: binaries installed by fglrx-amdcccle not added to PATH

2010-05-01 Thread OmniUni
This affects KUbuntu as well, at least. I suspect it affects all
branches. I've upgraded two computers which use this driver, and
installed amdcccle, and it is unknown to the rest of the system. I had
thought the package was just broken, but after reading this bug, I found
the package in the location mentioned.

The good news is I can now get to amdcccle, but I wanted to mention that
this bug is NOT fixed right now.

[Bug 567659] Re: Flickery Display upon using XRANDR extension, for multiple monitors or otherwise

2010-04-29 Thread OmniUni
I took some pictures to add to this. The first shot is of my laptop LCD
after manually killing X. Right now, I can't even get X back all the way
after killing it.

Second pic shows a cloned display almost working. You can't tell, but
the TV is wavy, and both screens are at some low resolution.

Third pic is what happens when I tried to just set my laptop LCD back to
native resolution. The same thing happens if I try making an extended
desktop.

[Bug 537640] Re: [RV530] video problem flicker unreadable ati radeon [Needs pll quirk]

2010-04-26 Thread OmniUni
I think this bug may affect me as well. I have an MSI Wind U210 with a
Radeon x1250. It works OK, but changing resolution will often knock even
my LCD panel into flickering wildly. Plugging in an external monitor is
absolutely terrible. The waves are so bad you get dizzy in about five
seconds. The waves used to be very fine, now they are wider and more
pronounced. I really hope this gets fixed by final release, or shortly
thereafter!

[Bug 567659] [NEW] Flickery Display upon using XRANDR extension, for multiple monitors or otherwise

2010-04-20 Thread OmniUni
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

This is related to a previous bug I filed, but this time, I am using the
latest Lucid Lynx packages of the driver. I tried to launch World of Goo
(which I had configured to use xrandr to adjust screen resolution) and
it resulted in my display going completely wacky. Right now, it is still
flickering all over the place. It is the same effect I as the one I get
when attempting to add a secondary monitor. I have reported the bug
using the supplied command as well.

[Bug 555541] [NEW] xorg breaks with multiple monitors

2010-04-05 Thread OmniUni
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Using Ubuntu Lucid (Beta, I know)

Everything seems fine on the LVDS, but plugging in an external VGA
monitor yields (at best) a wavy image on the secondary monitor. Up until
recently, the xserver performance was at least stable, but when I tried
it tonight, X threw tons of errors. I checked the log and there were a
bunch of issues with modelines, but nothing that stood out to me (I'm
not to familiar with X's log).

Eventually, X crashed. it is completely unusable on any dual monitor
configuration. About two weeks ago, it was actually working perfectly (a
small but significant improvement over Karmic).

I have an MSI Wind, U210 with a Radeon x1250

Oh, and I tried the ubuntu-bug report but it was just after I upgraded
my packages to the xorg-edgers repository, to see if I could improve the
situation right now, so it failed.

[Bug 498956] [NEW] VLC not listed in Repository, and can't install from downloaded package

2009-12-20 Thread OmniUni
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vlc

This is a fresh install of Karmic. I am running the KDE desktop, and all
repositories and branches are enabled (Universe, Multiverse, etc.) After
several updates, VLC is still not listed, nor most of its plug-ins. I
have tried using apt-get, adept, and synaptic, and none can find a
package vlc. I downloaded the Karmic release package, and tried to
install it, and it complains of unmet dependencies, vlc-nox which it
supposedly replaces. For now, I can not install VLC.

[Bug 282525] Re: Direct Rendering / Acceleration Lost with Kernel 2.6.27-7

2009-01-22 Thread OmniUni
Actually, I believe that the issue has been fixed. I don't know why the
DRI seems to go in and out from release to release, but I think it's
working now. I've actually been using the FGLRX driver because although
the Radeon driver does work, it has much lower performance than the
FGLRX driver at the moment, at least on my card. I am looking forward to
the RadeonHD driver in development. I will try the Radeon driver
specifically later and let you know my results.

I guess it's not really a bug, but without knowing to look at dmesg, I
don't know how anyone would know the right sequence of button presses to
get the card enabled! As you may notice, even with the help of dmesg it
took me several tries to get it working.

Thank you very much for your help, I hope this was not a waste of your

[Bug 277716] [NEW] [Intrepid Beta] Card does not seem to work with b43

2008-10-03 Thread OmniUni
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: b43-fwcutter

I first apologize if this bug is filed incorrectly. I am filing it after
several hours of troubleshooting and searching. I am also new to bug
reporting, so please forgive me for a lack of etiquette.

I recently installed the beta of Ubuntu Intrepid. Everything seemed to
work OK, and when I installed b43-fwcutter, my blue wireless light came
on, and everything seemed good, but I could not find any wireless
networks. I entered one manually, and it would not connect. I tried
several fixes, none of which worked. I plugged in my D-Link USB wireless
card, and installed the Windows driver with NDISWrapper, and it worked
fine. Thus, I conclude that my problem is not Network Manager. This
wireless card has been working perfectly for quite a while now under
Ubuntu Hardy Heron, using the bcm43xx wireless driver. When I attempted
to unload the driver, I realized that the card is now being used under
the b43 driver. My exact card is as follows:

06:02.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4318 [AirForce One
54g] 802.11g Wireless LAN Controller (rev 02)

The card IS recognized, it just doesn't see any wireless networks. Even
with my D-Link plugged in, and showing a nearly full signal to my
network, wlan0 (Broadcom), shows the network name with an empty bar, and
as a Connect to Other Network option. (This fails)

Again, this card works perfectly under bcm43xx. If you would like me to
run some commands to provide you with more information, please let me
know.

Currently, my exact package is of version 1:011-4ubuntu1
