[Bug 1243211] [NEW] [saucy] eclipse menu not working
Public bug reported: Since upgrade of ubuntu from 13.04 to 13.10 a self installed installation of Eclipse Kepler still shows the menu bar, but clicking on it does not show the menu. [Bug 508848] Re: does not mount decrypted secondary luks crypttab partitions (btrfs)
As I understand the code mountall(8) did never spawn mount(8) because it did not find the ID_FS_{TYPE,USAGE} attributes. So mount only got called interactively by me, fetched the fs_vfstype from fstab(5) and did what it was told to do, it called mount(2) which did not care for the ext2 signature. mount(8) does not search for fs signatures if the type is given. Why can mountall not do the same? If mountall would notice the ID_FS_AMBIVALENT attribute it could at least write a warning message before spawning the recovery shell. According to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=473514 cryptsetup and mkswap zap all existing filesystem signatures nowadays, but existing filesystems could still have multiple signatures. ** Bug watch added: Red Hat Bugzilla #473514 https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=473514 -- does not mount decrypted secondary luks crypttab partitions (btrfs) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508848 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 508848] Re: does not mount decrypted secondary luks crypttab partitions (btrfs)
I could repair my system and it boots now without interaction. But IMHO there is still one bug left (probably in mountall): If blkid does find more than filesystem signature, either an error should be printed or the fs type from /etc/fstab should be used if it matches one finding of blkid. Many linux users will not be able to fix such a problem themselves, even less will be able to diagnose it, so the boot process should try the best... -- does not mount decrypted secondary luks crypttab partitions (btrfs) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508848 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I think I understand the problem better now. When I found the log line try_udev_device: ignored /dev/mapper/var (not yet ready?) [Bug 563260] Re: divertion of /sbin/udevadm is not fixed after udev install
I am quite sure this was caused by the following dpkg bug: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=575891 I have /var on btrfs and the symptoms match exactly. The dpkg bug is fixed and in Lucid there is an updated package which includes the fix. The remaining questions are: - Will this fix be backported to the other supported ubuntu versions? - How can ubuntu make sure that everyone affected by this gets their installations repaired? The problem is that you have to do a reinstall of all installed packages which means you have to download every package and reinstall them afterwards. How to fix this is described here: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=575891#39 Because the dpkg bug is fixed this can be reduced to: # Reinstall (almost) everything at once. aptitude reinstall '~i !~E !~prequired !x11-common' # These have dependency loops, so must be reinstalled singly. for i in `aptitude search -F %p '~i(~E|~prequired|x11-common)'` do aptitude reinstall $i done Note that I do not (yet) have tested the described workaround myself. ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #575891 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=575891 ** Package changed: udev (Ubuntu) = dpkg (Ubuntu) ** Also affects: dpkg via http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=575891 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- divertion of /sbin/udevadm is not fixed after udev install https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/563260 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 519067] [NEW] udev-finish upstart job adds dynamic rules to /etc/udev/rules.d directory
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: udev udev-finish.conf writes some dynamically generated udev config files to to the /etc/udev/rules.d directory. That seems ugly and can cause some problems: - /etc/udev/rules.d/README states that /etc/udev/rules.d is for local rules - /etc is not for dynamic content, boot should be able without a writable / directory - rules will never be removed again, only added For these reasons a tmpfs mountpoint would be more suitable for these rules. [Bug 508832] [NEW] dbus does not start again if not cleanly shutdown before
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: dbus if /var/run/dbus/pid exists, f.e. after dbus crashed, it won't get started again until the pid file is manually removed. The first bug ist that upstart does not recognize that dbus is not running anymore. Is this a bug in upstart or in dbus.conf? The pid file should be removed if dbus is not running any more, so dbus can be started again. That is the second bug. [Bug 508848] [NEW] mountall does not mount decrypted secondary luks crypttab partions
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: mountall I was told to open a bug in bug 502665 comment 2. In this setup I have three partitions decrypted by luks cryptsetup. The passprhase for / is entered manually, for /var and /home key files located in /etc are used to avoid having to enter the passphrase three times during the boot process. mountall does mount / successfully, but does not mount /var and /home even after they are decrypted by cryptsetup. After opening a shell (ctrl-alt-del is mapped to open a shell on tty2 here) I mount the missing partitions with mount -a -v and then restart mountall by sudo service mountall stop and sudo service mountall start. Then mountall does its job. I will attach debug log of mountall (first and second run) and mount shortly.
