[Bug 1877439] [NEW] calendar reminders are shown two different ways simultaneously
Public bug reported: See attached image. I have a google calendar sync'd with gnome-calendar. When there's a reminder for an event, it shows both as a normal gnome shell notification and additionally with the window that pops up. I'm guessing that the notification is from gnome-calendar and the window is some remnant of evolution (which is not installed), but I have no idea what remnant that might be or how to turn it off. ** Affects: gnome-calendar (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "Screenshot from 2020-05-07 14-51-02.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1877439/+attachment/5367969/+files/Screenshot%20from%202020-05-07%2014-51-02.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1877439 Title: calendar reminders are shown two different ways simultaneously To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-calendar/+bug/1877439/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 875039] [NEW] proxy settings don't work in gnome-shell
Public bug reported: When logged in to the Gnome session, proxy settings don't seem to work. I am using a SOCKS proxy set up through ssh (I connect to the remote system with 'ssh -D 1080' and then set the socks proxy to localhost:1080). Chrome and Firefox behave as if nothing is the matter, but a "what's my ip" site confirms the proxy isn't working. I can verify that the proxy is working by using firefox' manual proxy configuration, and also because it works fine when I log in to the Unity session. Extra information that may be relevant, or not: under both gnome and unity, epiphany says "Cannot resolve proxy hostname ()" when the proxy settings are turned on. [Bug 787465] Re: View->Show MenuBar isn't working in 11.04
most (all?) of the bugs labeled as duplicates of this one are reporting a related issue, but not exactly the same one. This bug seems to be that the "show menu bar" options makes no sense in an environment such as unity and so should be hidden. The duplicates are about environments such as gnome-shell where there is no global menu bar. In that case the "show menu bar" option is broken, which I would think is significantly more annoying but probably affects fewer users (though I count myself among their ranks). [Bug 589012] Re: totem won't do progressive download for flv videos
>It does the progressive download for me with the plugin. For what video? How do you know it's one in an FLV container? Totem's YouTube plugin does not, as far as I can tell, allow you to choose which format you get, except indirectly by setting your connection speed. I notice that when I set my connection speed to 512, it won't do progressive download on any of the videos I select, but when I set it to Intranet/LAN, it does. It picks fmt=5 (an FLV container) when set to 512, and fmt=18 (an mp4 container) when set to Intranet. As an example: the first URL is what I get in totem when I set my connection speed to intranet and do a youtube search for "tron". The second is the first result when I set my connection speed to 512 Kbps. The only difference is the fmt=18 at the end. The first one buffers and plays almost instantly, while the second one does not. http://www.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=-3ODe9mqoDE&t =vjVQa1PpcFP9ODzDI-Q1VYwCgPGh86toYtHlHFGtGFg%3D&fmt=18 http://www.youtube.com/get_video?video_id=-3ODe9mqoDE&t=vjVQa1PpcFOK2hVl0QlGv6WQBgkJznali8MnU4_ZXxo%3D In any case, the bug is confirmed upstream. -- totem won't do progressive download for flv videos https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/589012 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 589012] Re: totem won't do progressive download for flv videos
added upstream bug. i know this is off-topic, but as for why i would want to replace the flash player on youtube pages instead of using totem's youtube plugin: 90% of the time when i'm watching a youtube video it's because someone sent me a link to it. There doesn't seem to be a way to feed a youtube link to totem and have it show the video, and even then, to get the same level of convenience we'd have to work it out so that the browser opens totem when clicking on a youtube link, which of course are just http. And I still wouldn't do it if I could, because I prefer using youtube's interface to youtube over totem's for a variety of reasons. Frankly, with the greasemonkey script the youtube experience is pretty great, with the exception of this bug. to bring this back on-topic: this bug also manifests itself using totem's youtube plugin. -- totem won't do progressive download for flv videos https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/589012 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 589012] [NEW] totem won't do progressive download for flv videos
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem With most online videos, totem will do progressive download, filling up its buffer and then starting playback while it continues to download the rest of the video. For some reason it won't do this with FLV files. It doesn't start playing until the entire video is downloaded. I first noticed this on YouTube using a greasemonkey script that replaces the flash player with a native plugin. fmt=18 videos, which are mp4, begin playing almost immediately, while fmt=34 or fmt=35, which are flv, do not. I then confirmed it with some other videos. Here's one posted by someone reporting this problem on ubuntuforums: http://hd.spaziogames.eu/hd20/2009/9/psp/4018.flv I tried it in banshee and it works fine, so this seems to be specific to totem and not gstreamer. ** Affects: totem (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- totem won't do progressive download for flv videos https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/589012 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 444139] Re: [RV100/RV200] (Needs KMS) Background and full screen apps don't show up when Normal Visual Effects on
The reason for the fullscreen video performance hit seems to be no XV overlay support w/ KMS turned on. Furthermore, as of xserver-xorg-video- ati 6.13.0-1ubuntu2, XV has been explicitly and completely disabled on my machine (which I believe to be a mistake, bug #562537). Temporary workaround (for me) so as to have desktop effects and accelerated fullscreen video: Install the jaunty version of libgl1-mesa-dri and libgl1-mesa-glx (7.4-0ubuntu3.2). Install xserver-xorg-video-ati and xserver-xorg-video-radeon version 6.13.0-1ubuntu1 (available via launchpad at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/i386/xserver-xorg-video-radeon/1:6.13.0-1ubuntu1 and https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/i386/xserver-xorg-video-ati/1:6.13.0-1ubuntu1) Obviously, I would prefer not to use these outdated packages, but it's the only way I know of to avoid these regressions. [Bug 444139] Re: [RV100/RV200] (Needs KMS) Background and full screen apps don't show up when Normal Visual Effects on
update after upgrading to lucid: KMS is now getting turned on automatically (I can see it in my dmesg output), and so the bug is fixed from the standpoint that I no longer get a black background and no full screen apps. I do still get artifacts, but so far (a little less than a day) no freezes, so desktop effects are at least usable (before, i had a choice between black background or occasional freezes). The other, larger problem, is that I now have horrible performance when scaling a video to fullscreen with desktop effects on. With desktop effects off, fullscreen video works, but video performance otherwise (most noticeably moving windows) is terrible. I do not believe I had this problem under karmic when I set both KMS and desktop effects on, but I never tested for it specifically. -- [RV100/RV200] (Needs KMS) Background and full screen apps don't show up when Normal Visual Effects on https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/444139 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

If what you are saying is "this is hard to fix and I don't think too many people will come across it" i understand that. I still think setting it to wishlist is inappropriate because that label usually implies something like a feature request rather than a request that something work the way it's purported to. [Bug 462369] Re: changing visual effects to "none" doesn't override a saved session that contains compiz
You don't have to "keep switching" as you're suggesting. Just switching once would be enough to break things. In my case, I'm having trouble with my video since upgrading to Karmic (see bugs #413259 and #44139) and attempted to turn off compiz. It took me 3 days to figure out why, no matter how many times I did it, I was still getting either compiz or, later, no window manager at all (compiz was failing to start) whenever I rebooted my machine (often, since those other bugs are causing my computer to freeze with a frequency exceeding that I experienced when I upgraded from DOS 6.22 to Windows 95). I have to say that it seems poor practice to present users with a feature but shrug off bug reports about it because they "are not supposed" to use it. I am also surprised that you classified something that is clearly a bug as a wishlist item. Do you consider "turning off desktop effects turns them off" to be wishful thinking? Furthermore, the fact that a fix would "require changing user configuration" seems irrelevant to me. By changing the option on the "Visual Effects" page to "none," is the user not requesting precisely that their configuration be changed? -- changing visual effects to "none" doesn't override a saved session that contains compiz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/462369 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 462374] [NEW] system keeps booting even though partition is being fsck'd
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: upstart A partition on my machine hit the point where it had been mounted so many times it needed to be fsck'd even though it's journaled. The boot process saw this and started running the fsck. However, it also failed to deal with this properly and kept right on booting while the fsck was going on. I have gdm set to auto-login, and it did that too, even though some of my startup files are located on the disk that was not yet mounted. This caused... problems. ** Affects: upstart (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- system keeps booting even though partition is being fsck'd https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/462374 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 462369] [NEW] changing visual effects to "none" doesn't override a saved session that contains compiz
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center Saving your session in gnome works again (hooray!) by doing System->Preferences->Startup Applications->Options tab->Remember currently running application[sic] If you're running compiz (I didn't check what happens if you're running metacity) and hit that button, it saves session data for compiz. If you then go to the appearance preferences->visual effects and choose none, it switches the window manager to metacity (I don't know what it changes to do that). However, the next time you log in, the session data takes over and tries to start compiz anyway. Removing the appropriate file in $HOME/.config /gnome-session/saved-session solved the problem for me. ** Affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- changing visual effects to "none" doesn't override a saved session that contains compiz https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/462369 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 460860] [NEW] old prism apps just stop working after upgrade
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: prism Apparently, the way prism works changed significantly between the jaunty and karmic versions, and the launchers that i had made just stopped working. There was no warning about this, no error message, nothing. I clicked my old launcher, nothing happened. The old launchers had an exec line like this: xulrunner-1.9 /usr/share/prism/application.ini -webapp my.m...@prism.app While the new one looks like this: "prism" -override "/home/bgruber/.webapps/my.m...@prism.app/override.ini" -webapp my.m...@prism.app A separate bug I guess, but "prism --help" doesn't even report -override or -webapp as a possible options. Nor does the prism man page for that matter. Looking more closely, it seems as if the config data has moved from .prism to .webapp. I would expect there to be, at the very least, a notation in the changelog, maybe a warning that my old prism apps would cease to work properly. At best, there should be something to help me update them. ** Affects: prism (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- old prism apps just stop working after upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/460860 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
