[Bug 582822] [NEW] Battery charge information completely unreliable
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager Ubuntu 10.04 LTS gnome-power-manager: Installed: 2.30.0-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 2.30.0-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 2.30.0-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://it.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status On my Acer 5520 running Lucid, when the PC starts I get a battery old or broken warning every time I log in. Furthermore, when running on batteries, the discharge time indicated by the power manager icon is random (starts from 40min, then goes to 50, then down again). In the process, it might be the random value hits the low-limit threshold, so I get a warning that batteries are low and/or THE PC SHUTS DOWN. Finally, the batteries seem to last much less than usual (about 1 hour against the usual 2 and an half hours). This is all new in Ubuntu Lucid, batteries were working great in Karmic and lasting longer than Hardy. I'm not that inexperienced of a user (from my point of view :)) but I stumbled on this issue as well. Since the right-click Share menu brings up a nice GUI that even installs services if required, nobody will ever think of opening a console right away to create a Samba user. One expects the configuration to be made by the GUI. @Mackenzie Thanks a lot for the quick and clear reply. I'm a bit confused though about the bug fix process. What is the difference between a LTS and a regular version of Ubuntu if bugs are fixed only in the current release? I've spoken with many people but I'm still very confused about how bug fix and package updates workis there a link you can point me to that explains the whole process? Actually if I go to Windows and do ping Windows Host Name it works, and if I do ping Linux Laptop Name it works too. Thanks Andres for the info. I was finally able to test with Jaunty alpha 5 Linux ubuntu 2.6.28-8-generic #26-Ubuntu SMP Wed Feb 25 04:27:53 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux, and with: snd-hda-intel model=acer-aspire I was able to record sound. The issue is now that Record from input: option in Sound Recorder does not provide a way to use the internal mic (the one with Crystal Eye webcam), I only have Mic Boost, Capture and Digital. Recording sound from the mic jack now works though. Note also that with: snd-hda-intel model=acer snd-hda-intel model=acer-dmic I get nothing (mute) when recording. [Bug 269294] Re: Acer Aspire 5520 cannot record sound with HDA-Intel NVidia Codec ALC268
Andres Mujica: Adding ubuntu-studio and -plugins (under 8.04) causes a set of programs and libraries to be installed, these seem to depend on a special version of the kernel which is also installed, overwriting the current settings. Anyway, I'll pay more attention next time. Mackenzie Morgan: As I wrote, I can test with a live CD but: 1) I need detailed info on what to do for the test, otherwise all I can do is start the CD and see if the mic automagically works, this is hardly the case since most alpha or beta CDs are not even able to correctly boot on my laptop, not to mention loading all the proper drivers. I saw you now listed a couple commands to type, I'll be glad to try them as soon as I get a chance. 2) As I wrote before I'm using Hardy Heron that is a LTS, I'd expect the issue to be fixed on that version of the OS, without the need to update until the next LTS. [Bug 241609] Re: Firefox 3 bookmarks lost after unclean shutdown
Happened to me today as well. Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.3) Gecko/2008092510 Ubuntu/8.04 (hardy) Firefox/3.0.3 Ubuntu 8.04.1 AMD64 Desktop Linux set 2.6.24-21-generic No bookmarks, empty bookmark bar, and any attempt to restore it (form firefox backup or JSON file) failed. This was NOT after a unclean shutdown, as I shout off Ubuntu using shutdown button. I'm NOT using NFS as far as I can tell. I was NOT out of disk space in /home. To solve the issue, I copied my .mozilla/firefox folder, deleted old one, and copied the copy back. I realize it might not be possible to distinguish between the two cases from tsclient, but then at least a check box to disable this behavior should be provided. [Bug 273027] Re: Torbutton say it is using Tor but it isn't
OK, one issue was that Privoxy when installed is NOT configured to use TOR. After I followed install instructions for Privoxy as explained here: http://www.torproject.org/docs/tor-doc-unix.html.en I can use TOR but ONLY if I enable Privoxy manually by configuring Firefox proxy settings (as shown in the previous screen shot). I'm not sure what is the best course of action with this, if this is intentional Privoxy behavior and should be left as it is, if I should enter a bug or what. Please advise on this. IMHO when installing torbutton form synaptic, it should also install tor and privoxy properly configured, but I can be wrong. OK, here is how to reproduce second part of the issue: 1. Open Synaptic and install torbutton-extension, privoxy and tor 2. Open Firefox 3, torbutton is not showing (as already noticed) 3. Close Firefox 4. Open Synaptic, choose torbutton-extension and choose Mark for Complete Removal and uninstall it 5. Open Firefox, go to Tools Add Ons, search for torbutton extension and install it. Restart Firefox as requested. 6. hen Firefox opens again, Torbutton will show on status bar, click on it so Torbutton Enabled appears in green 7. Hit http://check.torproject.net/, you will see that torbutton is not enabled Try to navigate to other sites, you should be able to go everywhere and you will see Tor is obviously not used, even if Tor Enabled appears. As written above with Ibex is even worse. I tested Intepid Ibex alpha-6 with following results: 1. If I record using Mic Boost or Internal Mic Boos, I've no sound at all. 2. If I record using Capture I get only cracks, as you can hear in the included sample. I checked volume settings before recording so it should not be a mute problem. [Bug 263566] Re: Firefox 3: Edit Preferences Advanced Update options disabled
Yes, sorry if I was not clear. The options are all ENABLED the first time I open the dialog (on a fresh install), until I click the Ask Me what I want to do radio button. AT THAT POINT they become disabled. Hence I found it confusing since it seems you can choose an option only once in you lifetime and you have no chance of revert back your choice. -- Firefox 3: Edit Preferences Advanced Update options disabled https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/263566 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 191844] Re: QGrubEditor changes the UUID of /root partition if there's an external /boot partition
In my case, I simply changed the boot option name, but QGRUBEditor changed the Root from (hd2,0) to (hd0,0), this is show in the edit entry dialog but it's easily overlooked since you are not messing with that field. Basically, it appears that when you edit a boot option, QGRUBEditor reset the Root to hd0,n instead of reading the field from the actual entry. So if you have the /boot partition on a different primary partition/HD it will break the boot process. I'm sorry I cannot be more precise, but I re-organized my HD so I cannot duplicate it again and go step-by step. If I'm to fix the bug, I'd double check that when the edit dialog comes up, it populates the fields using actual entries from menu.lst and does not use any other hard-coded default. -- QGrubEditor changes the UUID of /root partition if there's an external /boot partition https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/191844 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
