[Bug 2068940] [NEW] bad environment variable in padsp script
Public bug reported: On jammy 22.04 LTS. I need padsp for an old program that writes to /dev/dsp. The /usr/bin/padsp script from pulseaudio-utils 1:15.99.1+dfsg1-1ubuntu2.2 has the lines if [ x"$LD_PRELOAD" = x ] ; then LD_PRELOAD="/usr/\\$$LIB/pulseaudio/libpulsedsp.so" else LD_PRELOAD="$LD_PRELOAD /usr/\\$$LIB/pulseaudio/libpulsedsp.so" fi I don't know where it is supposed to be picking up a value for $LIB, but it isn't working. I get an error message: ld.so: object '/usr/\788488LIB/pulseaudio/libpulsedsp.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded (cannot open shared object file): ignored. The libpulsedsp 1:15.99.1+dfsg1-1ubuntu2.2 package put libpulsedsp.so in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pulseaudio and if I edit that into the script in place of the call to $LIB, everything works. So I think it is just a problem with the use of LIB in the script. ** Affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2068940 Title: bad environment variable in padsp script To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/2068940/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2059817] Re: Image viewer renders SVG improperly
In discussing this bug with a friend, he reminded me that, in the "flash and escape" phototypesetters, when you wanted to change the aspect ratio of a letterform, you has to set anamorphic magnification. It appears that InkScape has a habit of using complex scaling algorithms to effect this anamorphic magnification. This could well be confusing some of the image renderers. Looking at the XML coding, Inkscape sometimes changes the font height, then changes Y magnification to compensate. Sometimes it doesn't. This may be the root cause of the bug. Any road, the issue is that each letterform in a variable-width font has an image, and a width value (sometimes called "escapement", harkening back to the days of the spinning-disk optical phototypesetters where the paradigk was "flash and escape".) The width values are not being scaled properly. This is most likely a simple oversight, and if so it's easy to fix. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2059817 Title: Image viewer renders SVG improperly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/eog/+bug/2059817/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2059817] Re: Image viewer renders SVG improperly
In further tests, I find that Chrome, Firefox, and LibreOffice Draw renders the image correctly. Of course, the image was created in InkScape, so it's rendering is also as expected. Dia displays an error when loading the image. Document Viewer: SVG not supported. GIMP screws up exactly the same way. [Bug 1396367] Re: Kdeconnectd uses 100%
Operating System: Kubuntu 21.10 DE: KDE 5.86.0 / Plasma 5.22.5 see also bug/1922465 When a second user attempts to log out it appears to log out, but afterwards gradually the fans rise to full speed. If the first user (never logged out just locked) logs back in and runs sudo htop you can see 60ish pids running in the name of the second user, 6ish of those are using 100% of all cores. The pids that are hogging are xdg-desktop-portal-kde and at least one kdeconnectd, usually multiple threads of kdeconnectd. Each of the threads that those pids are in are end with a drconqi pid that, if you kill it, the entire thread closes and that core frees up. If all of the hogging threads are killed in that way that still leaves 50ish pids running in the name of the second user, but they use 0% CPU. Hi Dan Just an update. Did updates yesterday and did a shutdown and the fan and the power light stay on and then I have to force a shutdown. I'm on a Facebook group for support for Ubuntu Linux. Apparently there are so many new users to the group and this bug existed in 20.04 but no one in the group wants to share the fix with me so I have nothing to point you to. Re: [Bug 1953400] Re: shutdown not working from GNOME
Hello Dan I have given this a lot of thought. When I attempt to shut down in 22.04. the prompts that I see on the screen are not the regular shutdown prompts that I saw in 20.04. I remember when I did the shutdown in 20.04. the last prompt for the shutdown procedure was telling all devices to power off. I have not seen that with this 22.04 in the shutdown prompts, maybe that's the reason why the power light stays on afterwards. That or it's something to simply do with the bios. Anyways that's just my thoughts. Re: [Bug 1953400] Re: shutdown not working from GNOME
Hello Dan I send in the apport info this morning and I got emailed this afternoon from your bot and it told me it to rerun it so I did it again Today I observe something that may help you with this. When I shut down my computer today with the updates. I noticed that the screen eventually went black I didn't see any shutdown prompts. But then afterwards the power light was still on but the screen was off. I came back an hour later and I noticed the power light was still on. But I did not hear the hard drive spinning in my laptop. So I'm wondering if it's a setting in my BIOS that is causing this maybe the fact I had to use legacy mode instead of UEFI mode. It's a Dell computer so there's not a lot of options in the bios. Hope that helps Steve On December 9, 2021 9:10:50 p.m. Daniel van Vugt <1953...@bugs.launchpad.net> wrote: > Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make > Ubuntu better. Re: [Bug 1953400] Re: shutdown not working from GNOME
Hello Dan Today I did the shutdown procedure in gnome. The prompts on the screen shutting down all the processes went fine as far as I could tell. But afterwards I noticed the screen was off but I could still see the power light on my laptop lit. I thought it may be hung up by a process so I let it sit for 10 minutes and when I came back the light was still on and the screen was off as it was before. So I can deduce that genome is shutting off the screen but some kernel process is hanging up the system. So when I do the shutdown procedure and this happens I have no choice but to hold the button down for 10 seconds to force a shutdown. I'm afraid of corrupting my journal by doing that. Well that's the update for today. Re: [Bug 1953400] Re: shutdown not working from GNOME
Hello Dan Here's exactly what I'm experiencing during the shutdown. I tried what you said, I pressed shut down in the graphical interface, I saw the regular shutdown prompts. But then after that I can hear a partial shutdown of the hard drive, but the power of light still remains on. I waited a minute or two and nothing happened, so I press the power button down for 10 seconds. Is this normal? If so could you please clarify what I can do. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Re: [Bug 1953400] Re: shutdown not working from GNOME
Hi Daniel Thank you for the prompt feedback. Unfortunately I do not really know exactly what you're talking about. When I do the shutdown feature, I see the proper shutdown prompts. But then eventually my computer screen shuts off but my computer light on my power button stays on. And I can still hear the hard drive spinning. If I can say one thing that might help you guys. I think half of these problems I'm having are your kernel. The standby feature not working correctly, was fixed by someone else using a different kernel. Also the blank screen function not working right can be fixed by a kernel downgrade. I imagine this can too. Hope that gives you some insight as to what's going on. [Bug 1953256] Re: ubuntu 22.04:standby doesnt work
Computer doesnt wake up after standby or just screen blank. So I have no choice but to do improper shutdowns, this could corrupt the journal. Re: [Bug 1953207] Re: clean install on 22.04 failed
Hello Paul I have a little bit of extra information to share with you that might point you guys in the right direction. I am part of a Facebook group of 70,000 people that are all using Ubuntu. I found at least two people that had this issue with 21.10 and just downgraded their kernel and then after that they could go and stand by and wake it up. With 22.04 I am stuck in a rut because when my screen goes blank on if I walk away from my computer it does not wake up. Also the standby feature doesn't work it doesn't wake up. So I'm afraid of burning my screen so I do the proper shutdown I just realized that I need to report a bug about the shutdown feature too it does not work through the graphical interface but I can go to terminal and do a shutdown there and it works fine.
