[Bug 2068940] [NEW] bad environment variable in padsp script

2024-06-10 Thread Stephen Isard
Public bug reported:

On jammy 22.04 LTS. I need padsp for an old program that writes to /dev/dsp.
The /usr/bin/padsp script from pulseaudio-utils 1:15.99.1+dfsg1-1ubuntu2.2 has
the lines
if [ x"$LD_PRELOAD" = x ] ; then
   LD_PRELOAD="/usr/\\$$LIB/pulseaudio/libpulsedsp.so"
else
   LD_PRELOAD="$LD_PRELOAD /usr/\\$$LIB/pulseaudio/libpulsedsp.so"
fi
I don't know where it is supposed to be picking up a value for $LIB, but it
isn't working. I get an error message: ld.so: object
'/usr/\788488LIB/pulseaudio/libpulsedsp.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded
(cannot open shared object file): ignored.
The libpulsedsp 1:15.99.1+dfsg1-1ubuntu2.2 package put libpulsedsp.so in
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/pulseaudio and if I edit that into the script in
place of the call to $LIB, everything works. So I think it is just a problem
with the use of LIB in the script.

The iso I downloaded was Apr 11.

To date both my machines are on 24.04 via upgrade from 22.04 to 23.10
then to 24.04, direct upgrade from 22.04 to 24.04 failed.

I am not doing any further testing as i have some health issues to

[Bug 2062032] [NEW] unab le to burn an iso with brasero or other cd burning software

2024-04-17 Thread Stephen Waines
Public bug reported:

Hello,
I downloaded an iso of the daily build of ubuntu 24.04 the sha256sum matched.

I tried burning it using brasero it said it was an invalid image, I
tried another burner software and balena etcher same result.

Upon further investigation I could mount the exact iso with image writer
and see its contents.

ended up using dd to sucessfully put the iso image on usb.

[Bug 2062026] [NEW] 24.04 dvd installer failure, weird upgrade path

2024-04-17 Thread Stephen Waines
Public bug reported:

Hello,
I have upgraded both my 22.04 machines to ubuntu 24.04 sucessfully. The direct
upgrade from 22.04 to 24.04 fails.
So on both machines i had to upgrade from 22.04 to 23.10 then do updates then a
final upgrade to 24.04 development branch.

I tried the daily build iso as a dvd install and it failed twice.

So it seems like you have to upgrade 22.04 to 23.10 then do a final
upgrade to 24.04 development branch.

The dvd installer failed on me twice.

There’s no site hosted via GitHub Pages at that address you specify.
That link is also not to our official website. I’m not quite sure what
this bug is actually about then as you feel you are generating a failure
with regards to something that we already know doesn’t exist as that’s
not even the actual location of our website.

[Bug 2059817] Re: Image viewer renders SVG improperly

2024-03-29 Thread Stephen T Satchell
In discussing this bug with a friend, he reminded me that, in the "flash
and escape" phototypesetters, when you wanted to change the aspect ratio
of a letterform, you has to set anamorphic magnification. It appears
that InkScape has a habit of using complex scaling algorithms to effect
this anamorphic magnification. This could well be confusing some of the
image renderers. Looking at the XML coding, Inkscape sometimes changes
the font height, then changes Y magnification to compensate. Sometimes
it doesn't. This may be the root cause of the bug.

Any road, the issue is that each letterform in a variable-width font has
an image, and a width value (sometimes called "escapement", harkening
back to the days of the spinning-disk optical phototypesetters where the
paradigk was "flash and escape".) The width values are not being scaled
properly. This is most likely a simple oversight, and if so it's easy
to fix.

[Bug 2059817] Re: Image viewer renders SVG improperly

2024-03-29 Thread Stephen T Satchell
In further tests, I find that Chrome, Firefox, and LibreOffice Draw
renders the image correctly. Of course, the image was created in
InkScape, so it's rendering is also as expected.

Dia displays an error when loading the image. Document Viewer: SVG not
supported. GIMP screws up exactly the same way. ImageMagick doesn't
even try to render the text.

[Bug 1876632] Re: [nvidia] Corrupted/missing shell textures when switching users or resuming from suspend

2022-04-23 Thread Stephen
Blank screen on 22.04 after upgrade. Re-installed nvidia 510 driver.

Even adding the following to /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-power-
management.conf does not fix the problem.

options nvidia NVreg_TemporaryFilePath=/run
options nvidia NVreg_PreserveVideoMemoryAllocations=1

Tried both gdm3 and lightdm, always get a black screen on resume. Using
both MATE and default Ubuntu environments.

[Bug 1891110] Re: Focal ucf need redirect fixes backported to ensure working with config-package-dev

2022-04-19 Thread Stephen Fletcher
[Impact]

 * Cannot use ucf to install templated configuration when using
dpkg-divert with the destination config file

 * Affects various packages including dovecot and any custom config
packages using both config-package-dev and ucf

[Test Plan]

 * Create a config-package-dev based config-packagename.deb to replace
existsing config

 * Include a line in the postinst in the config.deb to install a template
for a config file also spcified in the displace file (which is therefore
   diverted by dpkg-divert)

[Where problems could occur]

 * Any issue with patch may cause issues with packages installing config via ucf
   (this includes dovecot, openssh-server, php7.4, gdm3)

[Other Info]

 * Tested with config-package-dev rolled config deb package

[Bug 1937136] Re: Update to v1.56.0 to fix: googleapi: Error 403: Only files with binary content can be downloaded #5455

2022-04-13 Thread Stephen Warren
I tested
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rclone/1.50.2-2ubuntu0.1/+build/23542458
and it solves the problem.

Specifically:
- I had installed upstream build 1.56.0 to work around the problem, which was
working fine.
- I uninstalled that version, and installed Ubuntu's 1.50.2-2, and reproduced
the original problem.
- I upgraded to proposed package 1.50.2-2ubuntu0.1, and verified that it solves
the problem.

[Bug 1967030] [NEW] [NUC11PAHi7, Realtek ALC256, Mic, Internal] Behringer 1202USB mixer's default usb audio driver clicks

2022-03-29 Thread Stephen Hazel
Public bug reported:

maybe pulseaudio, maybe alsa, i don't know.

I have a stock kubuntu 21.10 (except for 2 files where i used a "too
old" fix that didn't work)

Any audio going to my Behringer 1202USB mixer has clicks about 2 per second.
That mixer is crackly on startup and shutdown but is new.
Could be something to do with powersaving?

This is a fresh install of kubuntu on my ibm nuc11i7.
I've tried Fedora kde and no repeated clicking.
Windows doesn't click.
But Fedora kde is junk - can't even connect to github :(

Other devices going thru the mixer don't click. Just the usb audio.
Other audio devices on kubuntu like hdmi or bluetooth audio work fine.

This is maddening :) click click click click...

others have the issue too. See...
https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxaudio/comments/tko0i6/sudden_issue_with_audio_interface_clicking_at/i2ntx7s/?context=3

please help me :)

[Bug 1966007] Re: Flood of Bluetooth Malicious advertisind data

2022-03-27 Thread Stephen Carr
I had to reboot my laptop and for a while there seemed no problem the
flood of Malicious data in the system log - then suddenly it started
again at the rate of 17,000 lines per hour.

The Bluetooth device is part of the Intel AC1365 combo unit.

I have attached the start of the boot log and a filtered log with just
the Bluetooth entries.

Ok I connected this to the internet and manually copied the oauth token over
and had the info sent.
I hope all of this is useful to fix the issue with the continue button's text.

These are files from the page before the page with the problem.

[Bug 1965681] [NEW] ntfs resize takes forever

2022-03-20 Thread Stephen Buergler
Public bug reported:

When I select that it should erase a disk and install there it queries
my disks to see if my other disks with ntfs on them can be resized. This
is unnecessary since I'm not using those disks. It also takes forever.
It basically makes installing ubuntu impossible unless I disconnect
those disks or I go and kill the pids associated with querying that
information.

Attached is "px auxfww" output.

Does this information have to be queried or can it be queried in the
background?

[Bug 1396367] Re: Kdeconnectd uses 100%

2022-01-25 Thread Cass Stephen
Operating System: Kubuntu 21.10
DE: KDE 5.86.0 / Plasma 5.22.5
see also bug/1922465

When a second user attempts to log out it appears to log out, but
afterwards gradually the fans rise to full speed.

If the first user (never logged out just locked) logs back in and runs
sudo htop you can see 60ish pids running in the name of the second user,
6ish of those are using 100% of all cores.

The pids that are hogging are xdg-desktop-portal-kde and at least one
kdeconnectd, usually multiple threads of kdeconnectd.

Each of the threads that those pids are in are end with a drconqi pid
that, if you kill it, the entire thread closes and that core frees up.

If all of the hogging threads are killed in that way that still leaves
50ish pids running in the name of the second user, but they use 0% CPU.
I have been killing all of second users threads without noticing any
repercussions.

2022-01-18 Thread Stephen Waines
Hello Daniel

Just wanted to give you the update as of today with all the updates standby
doesn't work. It goes in standby but it does not wake up but the computer
stays on with the light on and the fan on.

But the power off feature works fine.

Re: [Bug 1953400] Re: [Dell Inspiron 5765] Power light stays on after shutdown

2021-12-18 Thread Stephen Waines
Hi Dan

Just an update.

Did updates yesterday and did a shutdown and the fan and the power light
stay on and then I have to force a shutdown.

I'm on a Facebook group for support for Ubuntu Linux. Apparently there are
so many new users to the group and this bug existed in 20.04 but no one in
the group wants to share the fix with me so I have nothing to point you to.

Have a Merry Christmas

Steve

Re: [Bug 1953400] Re: shutdown not working from GNOME

2021-12-10 Thread Stephen Waines
Hello Dan

I have given this a lot of thought.

When I attempt to shut down in 22.04. the prompts that I see on the screen
are not the regular shutdown prompts that I saw in 20.04.

I remember when I did the shutdown in 20.04. the last prompt for the
shutdown procedure was telling all devices to power off. I have not seen
that with this 22.04 in the shutdown prompts, maybe that's the reason why
the power light stays on afterwards.

That or it's something to simply do with the bios.

Anyways that's just my thoughts.

Re: [Bug 1953400] Re: shutdown not working from GNOME

2021-12-10 Thread Stephen Waines
Hello Dan

I send in the apport info this morning and I got emailed this afternoon
from your bot and it told me it to rerun it so I did it again

Today I observe something that may help you with this.

When I shut down my computer today with the updates. I noticed that the
screen eventually went black I didn't see any shutdown prompts. But then
afterwards the power light was still on but the screen was off.

I came back an hour later and I noticed the power light was still on. But I
did not hear the hard drive spinning in my laptop.

So I'm wondering if it's a setting in my BIOS that is causing this maybe
the fact I had to use legacy mode instead of UEFI mode.

It's a Dell computer so there's not a lot of options in the bios.

Hope that helps

Steve

Re: [Bug 1953400] Re: shutdown not working from GNOME

2021-12-08 Thread Stephen Waines
Hello Dan

Today I did the shutdown procedure in gnome. The prompts on the screen
shutting down all the processes went fine as far as I could tell.

But afterwards I noticed the screen was off but I could still see the power
light on my laptop lit. I thought it may be hung up by a process so I let
it sit for 10 minutes and when I came back the light was still on and the
screen was off as it was before.

So I can deduce that genome is shutting off the screen but some kernel
process is hanging up the system.

So when I do the shutdown procedure and this happens I have no choice but
to hold the button down for 10 seconds to force a shutdown. I'm afraid of
corrupting my journal by doing that.

Well that's the update for today.

Steve

Re: [Bug 1953400] Re: shutdown not working from GNOME

2021-12-08 Thread Stephen Waines
Hello Dan

Here's exactly what I'm experiencing during the shutdown. I tried what you
said, I pressed shut down in the graphical interface, I saw the regular
shutdown prompts. But then after that I can hear a partial shutdown of the
hard drive, but the power of light still remains on. I waited a minute or
two and nothing happened, so I press the power button down for 10 seconds.
Is this normal? If so could you please clarify what I can do.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Re: [Bug 1953400] Re: hutdown not completly working

2021-12-07 Thread Stephen Waines
Hello

Thank you I ran the command this morning but it did not work I got a failed
message.

That I can reset the credentials by removing the file

So what happens is I shut down and I see the prompts of everything shutting
on down. Then the screen goes blank but my laptop light stays on. I tried
waiting 90 seconds for the proper shutdown of anything in the background
and nothing happened.

Re: [Bug 1953400] Re: shutdown not working from GNOME

2021-12-07 Thread Stephen Waines
Hi Daniel

Thank you for the prompt feedback. Unfortunately I do not really know
exactly what you're talking about.

When I do the shutdown feature, I see the proper shutdown prompts. But then
eventually my computer screen shuts off but my computer light on my power
button stays on. And I can still hear the hard drive spinning.

If I can say one thing that might help you guys. I think half of these
problems I'm having are your kernel. The standby feature not working
correctly, was fixed by someone else using a different kernel. Also the
blank screen function not working right can be fixed by a kernel downgrade.
I imagine this can too.

Hope that gives you some insight as to what's going on.

Steve

[Bug 1953256] Re: ubuntu 22.04:standby doesnt work

2021-12-06 Thread Stephen Waines
Computer doesnt wake up after standby or just screen blank. So I have no
choice but to do improper shutdowns, this could corrupt the journal. So
I see this as a major bug.

Re: [Bug 1953207] Re: clean install on 22.04 failed

2021-12-06 Thread Stephen Waines
Hello Paul

I have a little bit of extra information to share with you that might point
you guys in the right direction.

I am part of a Facebook group of 70,000 people that are all using Ubuntu. I
found at least two people that had this issue with 21.10 and just
downgraded their kernel and then after that they could go and stand by and
wake it up.

With 22.04 I am stuck in a rut because when my screen goes blank on if I
walk away from my computer it does not wake up. Also the standby feature
doesn't work it doesn't wake up.

So I'm afraid of burning my screen so I do the proper shutdown

I just realized that I need to report a bug about the shutdown feature too
it does not work through the graphical interface but I can go to terminal
and do a shutdown there and it works fine.
