[Bug 345119] Re: [i965 X3100] X freezes/crashes randomly, only mouse pointer still functional
Hi all, I believe this problema really has something to do about firefox. I'm using Fedora 11, and I have the exact same problem. All freezes, but the mouse pointer. Some research, and I found about xul problems, so I tried this way. At the Fedora, I installed some packages like xulrunner-devel and xulrunner-devel-unstable... but I had still a problem, then I installed xulrunner-python and xulrunner-python-devel. I THINK this solved the problem. I'm looking for this package on ubuntu to tell you guys what is the similar, but I can't find it, however I hope this get you a clue about what to do on ubuntu. On my Fedora 11, Firefox is working for some time with no freezing. So glad :) So, again, try to find something about xul and python and please, let me know if it works on Ubuntu too. [Bug 345119] Re: [i965 X3100] X freezes/crashes randomly, only mouse pointer still functional
Random freezes in UXA regardless of KMS/UMS were fixed for me in the commits between - NEWS: Add notes for 2.7.99.1 snapshot and Revert Leave allocator running until lower-level CloseScreens are done on master branch. Also fixed in 2.7 branch (pre 2.7.1) as of - 3D_STATE_VERTEX_BUFFERS takes four 32-bit values, not three. whereas it was still broken in 2.7.0 release. Yes, I fixed the freeze by setting a high Virtual size as shown in the other bug. However, it does not fix the vblank count error; I just got it in my dmesg by switching to a VT. zwaldowski, the upstreem test you mentioned doesn't need the new kernel. The new kernel AFAIK is for telneting into a frozen box. You will need wmctrl installed for this to work (sudo apt-get install wmctrl). Download Matt's repro.sh and try. http://launchpadlibrarian.net/25683477/repro.sh It froze my laptop as described. For me, opening 3 or more windows AT THE SAME time freezes everything but the mouse. I realized this first time I restarted Firefox with 4 windows opened, your comment about Firefox 3.5 just triggered my memory. So to reproduce, either open 3 or more firefox windows, and restart firefox. Sounds, good. You are now in the same situation I was several days before. I don't know exactly what I did to fix it. I was trying to reduce power consumption on my laptop when it got fixed. Trying to reproduce and find the cure, I decided to reinstall, so I formated and installed 9.04 again. Since then I didn't have another crash and I'm trying to get my computer back to your situation to found that also compiz blacklisted my card. editing /usr/bin/compiz and removing the blacklist line solved it. also you could run with a terminal: SKIP_CHECK=yes compiz I can remember also, that sysrq was not functioning either. something I fixed by doing - /etx/X11/xorg.conf Section ServerFlags Option DontZap False EndSection Try that and use Alt-Fn-Del+k, then ctrl-alt-F1 to get to the console. I got mine out of the freeze but unable to start X again. I'm rebooting to try to find the root cause of this (or at least for it to hang again). -- [i965 X3100] X freezes/crashes randomly, only mouse pointer still functional https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/345119 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Although using UXA I'm not experiencing any freezes so far (tried repro.sh for 10 minutes, while opening firefox a few dozen times), I found what I did wrong (or right) to not have the bug, and how to reproduce again. While reinstalling ubuntu, first thing I did was following LP #359392 instructions on how to reproduce and installed repro.sh. However I inadvertently installed also the intel-gpu-utils from the repos: By doing this change, libdrm2 and libdrm-intel1 get replaced by a newer development version (2.4.9-build1) which does not reproduces the bug. Please install intel-gpu-utils and see if you are still experiencing the problem. A handful of bugs like this exist on the upstream Bugzilla, so I'm just linking the one I'm involved in (also, because it talks about my chipset). ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #20893 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20893 ** Also affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel via https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20893 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- [i965 X3100] X freezes/crashes randomly, only mouse pointer still functional https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/345119 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 345119] Re: [i965 X3100] X freezes/crashes randomly, only mouse pointer still functional
noted these lines in my dmesg today, not sure if it means anything or is even helpful, but it caught my attention: [ 22.057251] [drm] Initialized i915 1.6.0 20080730 on minor 0 [ 22.067008] [drm:i915_setparam] *ERROR* unknown parameter 4 hope this helps to some degree, i just noticed it looked like an error and had something to do with the video chipset, i think on a side note, I have no idea where this virtual resolution came from in my xorg file: Section Screen Identifier Default Screen Monitor Configured Monitor Device Configured Video Device SubSection Display Virtual 2304 800 EndSubSection EndSection thanks -myk -- [i965 X3100] X freezes/crashes randomly, only mouse pointer still functional https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/345119 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 345119] Re: [i965 X3100] X freezes/crashes randomly, only mouse pointer still functional
You are making a big assumption here that you have only a single Xorg freeze bug. I am in the process of analyzing and categorizing X freeze bugs. However, bugs that occur randomly cannot be analyzed. If you wish to continue describing the bug as freezes/crashes randomly, that's fine but I will omit it from my analysis list. ** Tags added: omit -- [i965 X3100] X freezes/crashes randomly, only mouse pointer still functional https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/345119 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 345119] Re: [i965 X3100] X freezes/crashes randomly, only mouse pointer still functional
Wait, no, stop that! Why is it unreasonable to make an assumption? It's freezing; when Xorg freezes, the mouse continues to work. When anything else freezes, it freezes. I'm not saying that it has no reason behind it, I'm saying that it's random because it has no specific interval or obvious reason. How else can I describe it? It's not my wireless. It's not the processor. It must be a graphics card problem, a problem with Xorg, or a problem with the driver. What else do you want from me? -- [i965 X3100] X freezes/crashes randomly, only mouse pointer still functional https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/345119 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
