[Bug 284349] [NEW] gnome-screensaver segfaults (using x11vnc)
Public bug reported: Hello, i am using nvidia binary drivers on my laptop with 1440x900 resolution, x11vnc and gnome-screensaver. [Bug 284346] [NEW] Properly fix dithering problems
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati Currently the xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.9.0+git20081003.f9826a56-0ubuntu2 is shipping two patches to workaround dithering problem on some cards. I suggest to update to current git version which has proper fixes for this problems: * RV530 on MacBook Pro + bug #264535 + https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17897 + the current upstream fix has the following advantages over current ubuntu 103_rv530_enable_diethering.patch: - it fixes completely the problem (the ubuntu patch still leaves some banding); - it is targetting only RV530 on MacBook Pro (where there is the dithering problem), not all RV530; - it makes the 103_rv530_enable_diethering.patch useless making the ubuntu packages more inline with supported upstream; + I tested current git version and noticed no regression so far * RV6xx/RV7xx cards: + https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17094 + current git version should also fix this problem in a similar way, though I don't own this hardware to test; it should have the following advantages: - it should fix completely the problem (the ubuntu patch appears to leave some banding); - it has a more general approach targetting not only specified cards; - it makes the 101_rv635_enable_dithering.patch useless making the ubuntu packages more inline with supported upstream; Current git version (2008-10-15 commit 435cf7da68186f2601c4b888296117d4f652c625) has 9 commits more than current ubuntu version: - 8 commits related to the dithering problems; - 1 cleanup commit renaming some function; I suggest to update the ubuntu version to current git to properly fix the dithering problems. [Bug 279519] Re: [regression] some usb devices don't works after upgrade to intrepid
Small update on MTP portable mp3 player: the issue seems unrealated with kernel, most problably something in libmtp or libgphoto or gvfs. I suggest so 'cause I logged in my jhbuild GNOME sandbox[1], it tryed to connect my MPT player, a Samsung YP-T10, and it works, either in rhythmbox either in nautilus/gvfs. I'm specifying it's a Samsung YP-T10 'cause in jhbuild sandbox I'm using libmtp 0.3.3 installed under /opt/gnome2; this version has a fix for this specific model. Ubuntu instead provides libmtp 0.3.0. I think could be a good idea update this package in ubuntu due to the lot of fixes (creative players too, see[2]) However, gvfs in jhbuild sandbox is linked against libgphoto provided by Ubuntu system. This is strange: both gvfs installed (/usr from ubuntu packages and /opt/gnome2 from svn) should be able to recongnize, mount and manage the player, but only the jhbuild sandbox works (any ubuntu- only patch against gvfs?) I'll attach a `rhythmbox --debug` dump from both version. In the meantime, could someone try to provide an Ubuntu libmptp package updated to latest version? Re: [Bug 221953] Re: Ubuntu Installation failure to mount drives
For Ubuntu '8.04' (actually 8.04.1) it still doesn't automatically remember mounted drive icons as per Ubuntu 7.10 Ubuntu 8.10 Beta (kernel 2.6.27-4-generic) has delayed ReStart or ShutDown problems, not fixed by updated kernel 2.6.27-7-generic and also does not automatically remember mounted drive icons. HOWEVER, my work-around works in all three cases. Using only NTFS logical hard drives for data storage and then Adding the 'NTFS Configuration Tool' and running it, one can select those NTFS drives which creates desktop icons that do get remembered after a restart. [Bug 284279] [NEW] Intrepid: Since update, Evolution has a problem with mail distribution lists
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution-exchange Testing with a company Exchange server which has a Global Address Book on it with pre-defined mail distribution lists (i.e. you would send an email to AEW if you want to send it to all electricity workers). Since some update a while ago, Evolution has started to resolve these mail distribution lists' abbreviations, i.e. when you send a mail to AEW, each receiver will get a mail with ALL receivers' names in the To: field, if if it be quite a number of recipients. Hi Miguel, I am new to Ubuntu (8.04 version) and after spending 2 days configurating my wifi card I am glad to find this forum about my 5300C. [Bug 1] Re: Microsoft has a majority market share
Just wanted to add 3 things: 1) Yesterday I was surprised to find out that webplanetcomputer.com sells computers with Ubuntu Hardy preinstalled on them. Unfortunately, they don't mention this *at all* on their website. You can't even select it as OS if you want to - but if you select none you get Ubuntu. To be optimized, but still: going in the right direction! 2) Hardware support: Yes. This indeed sucks, but it's not a problem of Free Software (we all know that). The more people use Free Software, the more vendors will notice and sooner or later will have to deal with supporting it. 3) @X3: There are a few things I can't agree with you, but I think we're still on the same page so let's just keep it short: Endorcing proprietary formats and applications (as you suggest), would not really make Linux better. In fact, it would make it worse, because you'd tear all the negative aspects of closed-n-proprietary development into our environment. It might seem like a boost for a moment, but not on the long run. Free Software *is* the superior development method with win-win for everyone (if done right). When I check lsmod, the kernel modules show up: iwl3945 112116 0 rfkill 19236 2 iwl3945 mac80211 253440 1 iwl3945 led_class 13192 1 iwl3945 cfg80211 37136 2 iwl3945,mac80211 However, when I do dmesg, this is what shows up: [ 26.626080] iwl3945 :0c:00.0: PCI INT A - GSI 17 (level, low) - IRQ 17 [ 26.626265] iwl3945 :0c:00.0: restoring config space at offset 0x1 (was 0x100102, writing 0x100106) [ 26.626574] firmware: requesting iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode [ 26.965090] iwl3945: iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode firmware file req failed: Reason -2 [ 26.965097] iwl3945: Could not read microcode: -2 [ 26.965215] iwl3945 :0c:00.0: PCI INT A disabled [ 26.978864] iwl3945 :0c:00.0: PCI INT A - GSI 17 (level, low) - IRQ 17 [ 26.979013] iwl3945 :0c:00.0: restoring config space at offset 0x1 (was 0x100102, writing 0x100106) [ 26.979275] firmware: requesting iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode [ 26.980776] iwl3945: iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode firmware file req failed: Reason -2 [ 26.980779] iwl3945: Could not read microcode: -2 [ 26.980887] iwl3945 :0c:00.0: PCI INT A disabled At this point, I can not use my wireless card because there doesn't seem to be microcode for it that the new kernel can see. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- intel iwl3945 no longer works with 2.6.27-7-generic x86_64 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/284353 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 284352] [NEW] bad percentage calculating partitions
Public bug reported: I have just made a clean installation of Ubuntu Intrepid Beta (rsynced few hours ago). I have installed it under windows vista using Wubi but I don't think it's specific to Wubi. The fact is that once wubi finishes the installation (without any error), then I must to reboot to finish the installation. In that part I have seen a progress bar showing a percentage of 114% (cool) that doesn't seem to be correct. The title of the window said something like Calculating partitions... (maybe it's not exact because I have installed it in spanish). Importante: low. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- bad percentage calculating partitions https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/284352 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
