[Bug 356702] Re: tooltips stick when they shouldn't
The libwnck-notooltip.patch works for me, thanks. However I get persistent tooltips also when switching applications with the window list applet, so I don't think the issue is related to the workspace switcher only. The attached patch disables tooltips for the window list applet. I have simply commented the lines of codes in libwnck/tasklist.c related to tooltips, but it works for me in jaunty. ** Attachment added: Disables tooltips for the window list applet. http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31015765/libwnck-tasklist-notooltip.patch -- tooltips stick when they shouldn't https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/356702 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 421550] [NEW] [Karmic] Linux Libertine fonts wrongly defined/set up
Public bug reported: There are some errors in the setup/definition of the Linux Libertine fonts in Karmic. Specifically: (i) Linux Libertine O bold registers as a different font ('Linux Libertine'). (ii) Selecting 'bold' for Linux Libertine O in OpenOffice actually results in bold italic being displayed (iii) In other applications, text that ought to be bold is left as regular (e.g. in a Lilypond document that uses Linux Libertine). This suggests that the Linux Libertine O bold font is somehow improperly named/registered with the system and that applications trying to use it are approximating solutions as best they can. ** Affects: linux-libertine (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [Karmic] Linux Libertine fonts wrongly defined/set up https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/421550 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 418448] Re: pulseaudio crashed with SIGILL in pa_volume_memchunk()
Work around: Since it is because of the recently added SSE optimization code in http://git.0pointer.de/?p=pulseaudio.git;a=commitdiff;h=7086784573e9e6c92d4c34404f18891c2d19872a you can work around it by apt-getting the source, removing the SSE- related, 2-line if block at the end of src/pulsecore/cpu-x86.c and rebuilding with dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -b Just install the pulseaudio and libpulse0 .debs afterwards. [Bug 421551] [NEW] default ownership of /dev/raw1394 is root:root rather than, say, root:video
Public bug reported: Bug in Jaunty: When I try to set my ieee1394 preferences in kino, I find that I am unable to do so because /dev/raw1394 has the wrong ownership. It is root:root instead of, say, root:video. This means that I have to change it myself, and I have to do it each time because I can't remember how to make the change permanent. [Bug 421326] Re: [UI]: Genre should not be Enabled by Default or Moved
Here is it not making sense (the default): http://imgur.com/T3q56.png Here is what it looks like without genre column: http://imgur.com/r9Nvi.png Here is a more sensible alternative (but will be a slightly harder patch): http://imgur.com/eTXnS.png I think #2 is the simplest and easiest solution right now. ** Description changed: Binary package hint: rhythmbox The 'Genre' column is largely useless by default, and seems to be placed in a nonsensical place. Title - Genre - Artist - Album doesn't make any sense. Title - Artist - Album does. If you still want Genre, make it Title - Artist - Album - Genre, like iTunes. Otherwise, it is confusing for new users. - Upstream will not be interested in fixing this (he seems like a jerk), - but he may be willing to accept a patch. + Upstream will not be interested in fixing this (he doesn't seemed + concerned with the UI, which is the only area of RBox which I think is + still lacking), but he may be willing to accept a patch. [Bug 420496] Re: More attractive GUI, based on gnome-control-center
Thanks for the suggestions. In future versions, the navigation pane will include expandable items (e.g. a Get Software item expandable to show Free Software and Paid Software child items), as well as collections and other user-addable items. This is why we are using a listbox for it, like Miro and Rhythmbox do for example, rather than a panel of buttons. I'm not sure from your mockup what you mean by a simpler frame for the main field, but it's important that the main pane (including the location bar at the top) have a border around it so that it's clear what does and does not change when you choose a different item in the navigation pane. You're welcome to make further suggestions about the design. I suggest using bug reports to describe specific design problems (e.g. X feature in the Store is inconsistent with the same feature in program Y), and put more general suggestions in the wiki https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SoftwareStore/Comments. ** Changed in: software-store (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- More attractive GUI, based on gnome-control-center https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/420496 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 352159] Re: Sound stopped working after recent upgrade Jaunty beta
Another update: It's actually a bit more weird. Turns out the USB device had little or nothing to do with this. Here is what I do to restore pulseaudio: killall rhythmbox ; pulseaudio -k ; rm -r ~/.pulse* ; pulseaudio -v ; pulseaudio -D For some reason, after I remove all the ~/.pulse* stuff it will crash the first time it is ran, but succeed the second time. Also even with this, it sometimes still crashes randomly, but at least I can get it working. Now, what caused this: I suspect the last system update because this wasn't happening before it. I am attaching the apt logfile. ** Attachment added: Update that probably caused this http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31017747/update-that-broke-it.txt -- Sound stopped working after recent upgrade Jaunty beta https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/352159 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 66015] Re: Duplicate spell checking dictionaries for every entry
Currently (at least in FF-3.0) /usr/lib/firefox-3.0.13/dictionaries is a symlink to ../../share/myspell/dicts which contains both the Firefox lg- TR and the proper ISO lg_TR language/territory pairs. Perhaps it would make more sense to make dictionaries a proper directory containing symlinks for each individual dictionary according to Firefox's (AFAICT broken, or at least incompatible) conventions? (Then how do you keep it populated, are there hooks you can run to update when a dictionary is installed or removed?) The other fix I suppose would be to change the tr-LG separator in inlineSpellCheckUI.js from hyphen to underscore e.g. if running on Linux. This I suppose might make sense to offer upstream as a patch. I don't think they'd take the patch suggested by rugby471 since it's apparently merely a workaround for a packaging problem. On the other hand, maybe this fix too is merely an Ubuntu packaging issue, and should stay as an Ubuntu patch. FWIW this file seems to end up being distributed in /usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.0.13/chrome/toolkit.jar -- should a bug task be added for xulrunner? [Bug 421576] [NEW] F-Spot does no longer create directories per day
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: f-spot When I was importing photos by means of F-Spot (Ubuntu 8.10) all pictures were nicely classified in directories per day. Eg. Photos/2009/08/30 ... Photos/2009/08/29 ... Photos/2009/08/28 ... In installed Ubuntu 9.04 and now all photos are imported into the directoy Photos. F-Spot does no longer create the subdirectories on a time-basis. This feature was very useful for me as I can't import my photos daily. F-Spot was sorting them automatically for me in the proper directory-tree. Has this feature been removed in Ubuntu 9.04 ? If so, can you please re- enable it as an option? If this feature is still present in the current release, how can I enable it back? ** Affects: f-spot (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- F-Spot does no longer create directories per day https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/421576 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

If I copy it to MPLayer, no way to be played (just first frame is sometimes shown). But it doesn't play it in Mozilla (instantly). I try to change preferences in mozilla for .asf files (I suppose it is correct, as file ends with .asf): default setting is Windows Media Player Plugin 10, I cannot change it to the other options as seen down in the list regarding the other extensions (nothing else is in right click menu) so I manually enter: /usr/bin/xine or /usr/bin/vlc (I hope this was not wrong step) - but no change. As you can see in the screenshot, if I check What is this on video, it still uses Totem, whatever I tried to set in preferences. (???) One final update. After 10 minutes with setting of /usr/bin/vlc, video suddenly started to play. But that is too late... my connection is ok, as you can see with VLCPlayer out of Mozilla. Public bug reported: The nm-applet currently sits in the notification area. This is not where applets are supposed to reside. The notification area is supposed to be reserved for notifications. [Bug 352159] Re: Sound stopped working after recent upgrade Jaunty beta
This happens to me with or without tsched=0 Pulseaudio doesn't even start up, even if I wipe ~/.pulse and ~/.pulse-cookie. I have 3 audio cards: * Echo Audio Gina 3G * Intel ICH [ALi M5455] * USB Device 0x47f:0xad01 The USB device is the USB converter for my Plantronics headset. Here's what I did to solve this: I unplugged the USB audio device, then started pulseaudio, then plugged the USB adapter back. And now it works. One last thing I would like to mention is that this started happening after I had added this line to my /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file: options snd-echo3g index=0 I had to do this to force the card to always use index 0 (and I had to do this because pulseaudio doesn't detect it automatically and I have to add it manually in default.pa). Maybe it has something to do with this. ** Attachment added: Pulseaudio crash output http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31017404/pulse-crash.txt -- Sound stopped working after recent upgrade Jaunty beta https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/352159 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 413788] Re: [ubuntu karmic] intel-video finds correct screen size but sets it incorrectly
Geir, with your comment I realized that indeed there was a connection on TV1 to a TV, which was not only switched off but also unplugged from power for at least a month. I kind of dismissed the connection statement of xrandr as just another bug ... However, playing with the connect led to the discovery that VGA settings depend on TV connect status and sequence of steps, which I don't think is the intended behaviour. Also, there is a severe, reproducible crash of the xserver. I did various cold boots with two scenarios: either only VGA connected, or also the TV (via the s-video outlet of the motherboard), and attach camera-screenshots and dmesg and Xorg.0.log files. I did not do most of the things you had asked for, as I believe the sitation has changed, but if you need more/other please tell me. When booting, only the vga - even if the tv is connected - gets a signal, which seemingly at random fluctuates between 800x600, 720x400, 640x480, 640x400 settings, too fast to follow. At the point where the ubuntu logo with the progress bar appears, the signal switches to 1024x768. Up to here all is independent of whether only vga or also tv is connected. If tv is connected the same picture is visible also on the tv (see pic imgp2060.jpg). When the xserver starts the signals depend on what is connected. With both connected the resolution becomes 1152x900 (imgp2065.jpg), when only vga connected it remains 1024x768 (imgp2069.jg). This is kept into the desktop, whereby in the dual connect case xrandr pretends it is connected with 1024x768, while the monitor osd says otherwise (imgp2066.jpg). In the single connect case the two agree (imgp2071.jpg). Only the vertical refresh rates are correctly stated in both cases as 60Hz, or 75Hz, resp. When, in the dual case, I unplug the tv cable from the mb, nothing happens. But after a xrandr command the signals change and the vga now receives a 1024x768 signal (imgp2067.jpg). Note, however, that both the signal frequency and the polarities are different from the other 1024x768 signals! When I then re-insert the tv cable into the mb (nothing happens) and issue xrandr, then the xserver crashes. keyboard (PS/2 connected) and mouse (USB connected) are dead. I can ssh into the computer from another machines, and see xrandr and Xorg running. From remote I can kill xrandr, but Xorg resists all kill attempts. (Frame buffer allocation issue? see last line in Xorg.0.log-commented). The attached Xorg.0.log_commented is for the dual-screen scenario. I inserted comments (search for ullix) between the steps described above. The dmesg_commented is the matching dmesg file (no changes though due to the steps). Dmesg_vga-only and Xorg.0.log_vga-only are from the other scenario. Booting with only vga attached is unfortunately no solution. Beyond the xserver crashing, the desktop is shifted downwards by about half the height of the lower panel and makes it illegible, and a black space is inserted at the top (compare picture imgp2071 with 2066 or 2067). I can press the monitor OSD button, and it jumps up, only to jump down again after 5-50 sec. This IBM monitor worked perfectly well with older versions of Ubuntu. I noticed in both Xorg.0.log files that the xserver does 8 (!) rounds of determining the connected monitor hardware, every time with the same result as far as I can see. That can't be intended behaviour??? ** Attachment added: booting. [Bug 389040] Re: Realtek ALC272 not working in 9.04 but its working under 8.10
UNR 9.04 / Jaunty on Toshiba NB205 with latest kernel from Leann $ cat /proc/version_signature Ubuntu 2.6.28-15.50~lp389040oga3-generic With model=auto, recording on the internal mic works, but playback does not work through internal speaker or headphone jack. I have not tested external microphone. As was mentioned before, setting model to auto gives additional/different devices in alsamixer. For example, d mic becomes front mic and there's a switch for headphones. With model= not specified, or set to toshiba, playback works through internal speaker and through headphones, and it correctly mutes speaker when headphones are plugged in. But recording through internal mic does not work. I have not tested external microphone. So I'm able to set model=auto, record a sound and then delete that line from alsa-base.conf, reboot and play the sound back. Not quite a workaround, but so very close. -- Realtek ALC272 not working in 9.04 but its working under 8.10 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/389040 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
