Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Pimoroni Hyperpixel4 - pCP integration

Perhaps the Hyperpixel's are best considered for controllers. I picked
up the 3.5 version a while back, but came to the conclusion that I
didn't want to give up my HiFiBerry's and pHat DAC's. Works great for
controller/display only.

I had the same thing. I updated 6 players, one with LMS. 3 updated OK,
got the reboot now message and all fine. 3, including the LMS one, got
through the update, but just at at the OK message and didn't give the
"reboot now" message. When I rebooted them, the LMS one didn't work at
all, and the other two seemed part upgraded, so I just reinstalled the
three of them from scratch. Sadly, I'm not sure how much use this is as
they were different devices that worked and didn't, i had one 3B that
worked and one that didn't for example.

Thankfully, i had the LMS config backed up, and rebuilding just the
players is easy. There is something funny in there about the "reboot
now" message though.

One of my player is a Audiophonics Rasptouch. This has an on/off button
that needs a script to work: audiophonics-powerscript.tcz

That was in the repositories of the V5 but I can not find in the 6.0.0

And if it's not there, will it come?

That seems real odd Michael, as the update really doesn't turn much off,
and just replaces the initial extensions. Its real difficult to test
upgrades from every different situation. But a wifi upgrade is for sure
tested.. heck I just updated a 4.1 install (I had to make a
little version edit to trick the installer) but that updated just fine
over wifi. All of my jivelite installs have been on a 6 variant for
sometime.

Man, am I behind the times!. I have two version 4 picore lms on 3B+'s,
one home and one is in a currently closed cabin, and have deployed 2
additional similar units to friends who are not in the area. All use a
USB HDD for the library. The hardware is identical. The file structure
of the HDD is identical.

Is there any reason that I can't prepare and test 4 new Micro SD's with
version 6 on my local 3B+, then, just deploy the cards to other systems?
Plug and play so to speak?

It seems to make sense (to me) that I could do this, but I just want to
make sure there isn't a "gotcha" that I am not aware of, something
hardware specific.

I've updated the pcp jivelite extension to fix an issue with the When
Off screensaver using power off/on from another controller for the
pirate audio board.

Previously, if the PA was off, and the screen brightness set to 0, when
you pressed the power button, the screen would turn on for about 1
second and then turn off again. The only way I could restore the
brightness afterwards was to run the lcd-brightness script manually.

No did not succeed with the update. Had to make a fresh install. However
spent alot of time making adjustements to the squeezelite settings to
make things work. What would work fine with v5.0.0 would not start with
v6.0.0.. Found an overlay that seems to work for my dac including
352/384 khz support. That is the audiophonics sabre q2m overlay. Used
mamboberry earlier but that wont start now.

So all in all it works fine after trying many settings, but update did
not work for me. Only new install.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 6.0.0

2020-03-11 Thread Michael Herger

Tried an in-situ upgrade from v5.0.1 to 6.0.0.
Unable to connect afterwards. I was using wireless.

Similar experience here, but coming from 6.0.0-rc1. WLAN wouldn't connect.

I then plugged in a keyboard and double checked
/usr/local/etc/pcp/wpa_supplicant.conf - which was there and IMHO
correctly set up.

I still decided to fire up setup and go through the network setup. It
told me WLAN was off, and none of the above configuration options
showed. Re-entered them, rebooted. Done.

Alas: Jivelite was disabled. Skimming the preferences in the web UI I
was wondering whether all settings had been lost. Not only Jivelite was
missing, but eg. the audio/squeezelite configuration, too.

One more (potentitally important?) detail: the in-situ update didn't
really work at first. It went through all the necessary steps, but then
ended on the "Ok" message, without offering me to reboot. I re-run the
update a second time (without re-booting), and this time it went through
- with the aforementioned result. Maybe that hiccup was responsible for
the missing configuration?

Bambadoo - did your update "succeed" in the first go?

As some problems go away a few days after testing, I tested the Pi3B+
with 6.0.0 again. It is still rebooting suddenly when playing
something.

Is there some possibility to find the reason for a sudden reboot?

Will it be better to make a whole new installation of 6.0.0 an not use
the insitu update 6.0.0 SD-card?

As changing the SD-card is a pain with the SmartiPi touch cover,
shouldn't it be possible to use an USB stick to boot piCorePlayer on a

My issue (mount not working) appeared to be the result of there being an
incompatibility between libmount and mount ... but a compatible version
was elsewhere on disk.
A concern that I have with the hack that I did to get around it is that
there may well be other similar issues lurking and that a more general
clean up is needed.
