Identifying the problem made Googling the solution a heck of a lot easier. It's simply a matter of entering: Code: iecset emphasis 0 You can do it even while music is playing and easily hear the effect. atrocity's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16009 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98544 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

I finally thought I would try feeding a Touch properly de-emphasized files and the Wandboard the pre-emphasized versions. Switching back and forth, the Wandboard no longer sounds dramatically muffled and in fact both players sound reasonably identical. Google finally brought me to this thread and the above-quoted command. While we are doing DACs, the HRT Music Streamer II works very well with wandboard and CSOS. It is a UAC1 asynch interface so it does require a hub. The max rate is 96KHz. John S. To be specific with the problem I've seen... Async usb on a full speed bus (usb 1/1.1 uac 1) requires two iso connections one outbound for the audio and an inbound one for the feedback path - it turns out that the TT function in the ARC ehci block on most arm socs can't handle this [must be a simplifying cost saving that was made in the logic block]. Adding a hub gets an external TT which fixes it. Without a hub audio is heard, but the feedback doesn't work and so you get occasional dropouts at a rate dependant on what frequency extreme the dac supports. Can you just confirm for me, that you are seeing these duplicate names from the jivelite config screen and not in the web interface drop-down box? (It should be impossible for there to be dupes in the web interface drop-down.) Thanks JackofAll for taking the time to respond I didn't have anything in the alsa params field but I did eventually get the OPPO's USB DAC to work. I appear to have a rouge/ghost squeezeliteWAND, ie two devices with the same name that show up in the choose device list and it also appears in my LMS dropdown for a short time after rebooting the Wandboard. I haven't figured out why, but if I do choose the wrong one I seem unable to select the OPPO's USB as the output device. Its strange because after a couple of minutes the ghost device disappears. I have 6 other SB devices and I've never seen this behavior before. So you can scratch my previous comment, Wandboard -> OPPO 105 USB DAC works. My 8 year old Cherry keyboard, (proper switches under the keys), packed up the day before. A few hours typing, (or attempting to type would be more accurate), on a spare "membrane" keyboard and I was ready to kill someone! LOL. Anyway, new keyboard delivered, I'm typing on Cherry blue switches, so all is right with the world today. (I'll ponder privately, how on earth, people put up with the "free" keyboards they receive with their new Dell PC's! ;)) On a serious note, I think any "user" testing of 3.11 kernel is going to have to wait until it goes from release candidate to release status, and the frequency/quantity of 3rd party IMX changes calms down. It's still too much of a moving target.. The two updates posted above, (squeezelite and community-squeeze-web), are only in the F19 repo, before anyone complains they are not available on the F18 release. I'm pondering, but I think the F19 CSOS ALPHA image is promoted to release and I'll only make updates for the F18 CSOS release if they contain major bug fixes or security fixes. Totally off-topic, I've been listening to the new (self-titled) The Civil Wars album today. I enjoyed Barton Hollow, but this new one is superb, if you like the genre. Developers only PLEASE! (There is no need for anyone else to be running the 3.11 kernels at the moment.) Lintweaker, can you give me the thumbs-up on your mytek kernel module working, please? The rpm is coming, for the moment a tar file. ssh'd into F19 image. Code: wget http://www.communitysqueeze.org/images/wandboard/CSOS/F19-A1/kernel-3.11.0-rc4-armv7-x6.3.tgz sudo tar zxvf kernel-3.11.0-rc4-armv7-x6.3.tgz -C / sync You'll need to edit /boot/uEnv.txt. (Bottom of the file. See note. Uncomment the "uenvcmd=" to support device tree.) Reboot (Or halt, wait 2 mins, power cycle, if you intend to be using wi-fi.) NB. The negative feelings I was having towards 3.11 seem to have abated somewhat with 3.11-rc4. Haven't had a lock-up. No USB issues. USB audio out, upsampled to 352k8 is working fine now via HUB. I think video out (HDMI) should be working. Not tested myself, just noticed references in dmesg which suggest it is being initialised to 1024x768. Not sure EDID is working. You might want to tinker with video param, for whatever resolution you require, in uEnv.txt. "video=HDMI-A-1:800x600@60", should be the syntax according to RN. I am well aware that 3.11 isn't ready for prime time. Unless you are developing against the kernel, (ie. lintweaker with his mytek driver and me with the driver for the JS DAC board), at this time there is no need to run 3.11 kernels. I don't want to see any, "my DAC doesn't work with 3.11", bug reports right now. There are issues! I'm not interested in looking at them. My focus is on the driver for the JS hardware, for which I do want a solution that works on mainline with device tree initialisation, rather than developed specifically for the Freescale 3.0.35 source tree and needing porting to 3.11 when the time comes to promote that to being the default kernel. I did some quick experimentation a while back and liked mI:::28. The 352.8 is important, because at that frequency (and 384) the DAC chip turns off it's own internal interpolation filter assuming you have already applied one in the data you are feeding it. This is what I am after. Until recently I could only go up to 176.4 that was the highest rate I could get off of any of my USB DACs. I finally got a home built XMOS interface up and running at 384 so I could feed the DAC 352.8. And low and behold, it was a major change over 176.4. It's hard to describe what it sounds like because it is the absence of a bunch of things. It's the cleanest, smoothest, most detailed, most involving sound I have ever heard out of digital audio. It seems that all glare, graininess, edginess, etc etc has just vanished and the music is just there. It's nice to know that my selection criteria seems to have worked and produced something pretty special. John S. So I ran the optical out from the SWAMP board into my AVR and it works. (Boy have I gotten spoiled by the upsampling to 352 into the DAC I'll be using fro CSP, the AVR sounded terrible in comparison) So it works into the AVR, but not the EMU_0404USB. The optical out from the Touch works fine on both. So it has got to be something in the channel status bits that is different between the two. Yes, I am using the same module and SDcard so it should not matter what carrier board is used. I can't test the wand carier since I has A0. More results for testing the Wandboard QUAD optical out with different DACs on F19-A1: Works with the digital input on the Transporter (via the analog outputs - doesn't seem to pass through digital to the other digital outputs). Works with the optical input on a Metrum NOS Mini DAC. Doesn't work on a Minimax DAC (but the signal LED lights up) Doesn't work on a Schitt Bifrost DAC (but it does auto-select the optical input) Doesn't work on an NAD M2 (but the Unlocked signal disappears) Hope this helps. Something like that is about the only reason I can think that the NAD would play SPDIF proxied by another DAC but not directly. I am having trouble thinking of other explanations, but I admit this is one is a shot in the dark. Does the NAD show the the sampling rate of the incoming SPDIF stream? Running the latest R7 image on a new Wandboard Quad, I can't get the SPDIF output working into a NAD M2 digital amp. The "Unlocked" message on the optical input goes out - so it looks as though it should be working - but there is no sound. The optical output does work if I connect it via a Minimax DAC. The analog line out on the Wandboard works OK. I've tried two Quads and have the same issue on both. I'm off to get another couple of MicroSD cards so I test on a Wandboard dual. I need to have a reasonable expectation that anything that is released is stable. dsdreamer wrote: > Talking of which, I'd like to be able to rebuild this kernel from > source, and would need know which source tree you are starting from > (RobertCNelson?) and to have access to all the patches that you use. > E.g., are you keeping the following Git repository up-to-date? > https://github.com/CommunitySqueeze/CSOS I'm using the Robert Nelson arm-multiplatform patchset on top of the fedora rawhide kernel srpm. I have very little time to spend on this today, but I will release a SRPM (and binary kernel rpm) and instructions for getting it working on top of the F19 CSOS release. I'll create a new "bleeding-edge" repo specifically for it. I do not mind sticking with 3.0.35 for F19. Maybe for Fedora 20 we'll have to revisited assuming Wandboard Quad/Dual support will be stable in kernel 3.12 or 3.13. @Clive, any way to provide a kernel-devel package for F19 with 3.0.35? I have looked at your spec file and compared it to a regular Fedora one but did not manage to it to build a devel rpm for 3.0.35. lintweaker's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=47485 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98544 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

It was one benefit of moving to a mainline kernel, being able to use the current Fedora kernel spec file plus a few WB specific patches, rather than what I lashed together myself for 3.0.35. Anyway, I need to get kernel-devel package building from the 3.0.35 src rpm, and the hiface and mytek drivers working as standalone akmods packages rather than bundled with the kernel binary rpm. Hopefully, this coming week. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Community Squeeze OS R3
It always seems like I am advertising but this might help someone else I switched to a new development machine. Doesn't have a serial port for the WB serial console. So I started looking at USB->RS232 adapters. A friend cautioned me away from the really cheap adapters as he has had issues and pointed me at a £15 part. I ignored him and spent £2.30 (delivered) on this 'USB to RS232 - USB Converter Cable' (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00077DJIQ/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00). (Figured, for the sake of £2.30, if it didn't work I'd buy the more expensive one that was recommended.) Anyway, can't vouch for it on Window$, only use Linux, but it appears to use a genuine Prolific chip, the pl2303 module loads, and the WB serial console works just fine on it. £2.30 well spent! ;) JackOfAll's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3069 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98544 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Community Squeeze OS R3
Been a very busy week for me, so only just getting back to the conversation about the F19 release.. Guys, take your points on board. Here's the thing, I think we are going to have to stick with the 3.0.35 kernel as being our "default" F19 kernel for the moment. I'm not even prepared to release the 3.11 kernel as a beta at the moment. Not to paint it in too bad of a light, but for me, beta means reasonably stable and to be frank, 3.11. Too many unexplained lock-ups. Another issue I'm aware of where USB audio device stops working and the whole USB sub-system stops working until the device is rebooted. Wi-fi is there now, but there is the cold boot issue. (I haven't updated in a couple of days, so that might be resolved now, there was talk about being able to reset it via a GPIO from the device tree file. If that's the case, great.) Lack of SPDIF driver. No video (HDMI) support for the moment.. The biggest issue for me is the lock-up, stability issue. I've never had an issue with the 3.0.35 kernel. My gut feeling is that you could run it for years without rebooting and not have an issue. Now, I suspect that when 3.11 spends a little time out of RC status and gets used by the "general public", issues will be resolved fairly quickly. But for the moment, the F19 release needs to stick with the 3.0.35 kernel and I think realistically, we may be looking at a F20 release before being able to have a mainline kernel as the "default". So back to the question, and assuming the F19 release stays as-is with 3.0.35 as the default kernel, where do we go with it? Can you guys running it give me any reason not to make it the "current" release and suggest anyone currently running CSOS upgrade to it? I admit I was under the impression from some of your earlier posts that things were moving faster with adding Wandboard peripherals support to the Linux mainline kernel. It is Freescale that is missing the opportunity by not pushing this harder, IMO. But given the facts, you're right, the 3.0.35 kernel is serving us well. What I want with the Trigger Output is to have something very universal and with as little configuration as possible. The Trigger Output must be able to function well in every use case of the Community Squeezebox. There are other users interested in the Trigger Output functionality and I dont want to narrow down its use to a certain use case. Having said that, I rarely use Jivelite myself to operate Squeezelite. Instead I use the Community Squeezebox just as any other Squeezebox; I mainly use iPeng and SqueezePad to control them. Im thinking to go back to something what I had in the past where I extracted the real MAC addresses from ifconfig. Im still thinking about how exactly to do it but I need to do some more testing. It may not have been the most elegant way of doing it but at least that worked fine in every case. Im able to extract both the Ethernets and WiFis real MAC addresses there. And I could use both MAC addresses to verify whether the power control came from the current player or not. 1 x SB3, 1 x SB Boom, 1 x SB Radio and 2 x SB Touch - all wireless 1 x Wandboard behind the bedroom ceiling ReadyNAS NVX running LMS 7.7.2. w iTunes plugin iPeng on iPod Touch. Probably not going to work anyway, as is It's going to conflict with the "Before=getty.target". I'll ponder tonight, but I think you may need to disable the autologin@tty1.service, which for other users, (especially for a first time use case where the wi-fi network interface needs to be configured before it can ever be brought up), needs to stay as it is and create a new service without the other dependencies. Might make more sense to have NetworkManager restart the service after the interface comes up with an IP Address... Let me ponder for a while.. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Community Squeeze OS R3
Pascal, This is probably going to get me a clip round the ear from Triode, but the more I think about this, using of MAC address to identify players, is ahem, brain-dead, when a single hardware device has multiple interfaces and could have multiple clients. Is it not possible to identify by player name? So you set the player name via the squeezelite config. Then in the Trigger applet you add a config screen to set the player name you want the notifications for.. I'm trying to think forward as well, to say a situation where the WB is both server and client and might not be using anything other than loopback interface. Can't see that using MAC addresses to identify a client is ever going to work for that use case.
