The automatic slideshow execution of PPS files was a long time request for many MSOffice users who switched to OOo and then found that their slideshow presentations didn't start up automatically in slideshow mode. [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice Update Mechanism
Hi Guys, Greeting from Indonesia. I read somewhere (sorry, forgot the URL) that LibreOffice is having update planned in regular basis. I see that on download page[1] there's only release files with file size 200MB. My question is, is there any plan to add update release in patch or something else that's smaller in size? So, if I've installed 3.3.2 and there's release for 3.3.3, you will release 2 files: one for regular file (the BIG one) and another one for patch file from 3.3.2 to 3.3.3. Re: [libreoffice-users] Compatibility 2
Hi Tom, Thanks again for your previous assistance looks like LibO and OOo Impress have a generic bug in that both versions lose links to audio files (MP3) and in particular are unable to save a correctly structured .ppt conversion. Whether anyone likes MS is not the point... that fact is that a huge proportion of world commerce uses it and regardless of whether I like LibO if I want to keep doing business I have to bow down to mass communication. That's why I said (in my view) that it's essential for LibO to catch a wake-up and understand that if it was compatible then it would stand a major chance of becoming the de facto office standard. If you want to frighten off the mass market and give MS more fuel carry on being incompatible. You simply cannot expect a commercial concern who have already spent a fortune on MS licences to download and use LibO just because I want to send them an non-standard slide show. They won't change therefore if I want the business I have to end of story. sincerely timi -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to users+h...@libreoffice.org Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/www/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

This is generally my thought/point about MS and the lack of willingness of big business to abandon Windows XP for Vista and/or Windows 7. If you want a business to change to a different OS and/or software package, you are going to have to provide something business sees as a smart, cost effective change. Being free just doesn't cut it, since that doesn't take into the account the number of paid manhours it would take to make the swap, a swap which would include training, and being able to access years of company records. [libreoffice-users] Re: Opening a PPS file in not-presentation mode
Double clicking a PPS opens the file in slideshow as expected. The problem is that starting Impress and then opening a PPS file should open it in Edit mode (as PowerPoint does). Instead it opens it in slideshow mode and closes Impress on ESC. This is indeed a bug which makes it impossible to edit a PPS file (without using the rename hack which is not a solution ;) ) -- View this message in context: http://nabble.documentfoundation.org/Opening-a-PPS-file-in-not-presentation-mode-tp2833269p2838333.html Sent from the Users mailing list archive at Nabble.com. -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to users+h...@libreoffice.org Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/www/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
[libreoffice-users] Corrupted PPT file from OO 3.3 and LO 3.3.2
Hello, I created a rather simple presentation in OpenOffice 3.3, and when I exported it as PPT, when I tried to play the file with Microsoft Powerpoint player, it said 'the file is corrupted' (I do not have MS Office myself). When I re-exported from OO 3.1.1, it exported the file but some fonts were badly damaged (probably some translation from Arial to Symbol/Greek). The same problem (of corrupted PPT file) happened with LO 3.3.2. Because I want to redistribute the document as PPT, it is important to have a correct PPT file. I suspect that the bug was introduced between OO 3.1 and OO 3.3. My impression is that the mess has something to do with master pages (I was experimenting with different master pages before I proceed with the presentation). The ODP file is uploaded in http://www.mediafire.com/file/uu7kxdteqersqvv/EEDE_version2.odp , so you can see for yourself the problems. (maybe a validating parser for PPT files is necessary? I think that the format is now publicly documented) I would appreciate any suggestions, and maybe these problems will be resolved in the next edition. This works fine for the web browser and other applications but it doesn't work with libreoffice. I've tried to set japanese as default language for the currente document but it doesn't work. Maybe I have to install a thesaurus or a vocabulary but I wasn't able to find what install and how make it work. Hi :) Have you completely uninstalled OpenOffice? I think we still have a problem sometimes when OpenOffice is still installed, particularly if Quick Launcher is active. Re: [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice Update Mechanism
Hi :) I am staying with the 3.3.1 for quite a while on most machines. However, note that 1 download can be burned to Dvd/Cd and then passed around or perhaps even sold under the GPL licence, even to make a reasonable profit. [libreoffice-users] feature request - inline formulas in Impress
In LO Writer, it is possible to insert a formula inline with text. However, there does not appear to be any way to do this in Impress. One can still insert a formula, but it is put in as its own object, separate from the text box, and therefore it is practically impossible to align it with the text. If only things like Greek letters are needed, I can just insert them as special characters, and I can still use stand-alone formulas, *but*, sometimes it would be very useful to be able to insert special math characters (like the vector hat arrows, etc. or a nontrival fraction) inline with text in a text box in Impress, and so far I see no way to do that, although it is possible in Writer. P.S. Re: [libreoffice-users] feature request - inline formulas in Impress
- - wrote: In LO Writer, it is possible to insert a formula inline with text. P.S. If sending an email to users@libreoffice is not the proper method for requesting features and/or reporting bugs in LibreOffice, please let me know and direct me to the appropriate channels. Your best choice would be on the bug tracker https://bugs.freedesktop.org/ . Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Opening a PPS file in not-presentation mode

Why does the application run in a different mode, according to file filename? Isn't there a workaround or something for this? The workaround is to rename the extension of your file to *.ppt and make it writable if it is currently on a read only mount/share. A DVD can't be made read-write for renaming, nor read-only shares that contain backup. If it's RO, it's for a reason :-P :-) I believe this bug was not present in OO; at least not the last version I used. Any ideas on when this will be fixed? The automatic slideshow execution of PPS files was a long time request for many MSOffice users who switched to OOo and then found that their slideshow presentations didn't start up automatically in slideshow mode. The PPS extension is just that - a slideshow. The PPT extension is the Powerpoint editable file. I doubt that this recently integrated feature in LibO is going to be withdrawn any time soon. So LO is actually targeted towards former MS Office, rather that ex-OO users. I don't think that fair on the OO userbase that never used MS Office. Alex A context menu to normal view or non-presentation view would be a great fix. Or a ~/config/libreoffice config file where one could disable the behaviour would be great to. It seems unfair that LO is better acomodated to former MS-office-users, instead of OO-users. It's like trying to absorb that userbase, without caring for the OO userbase. I don't want to actually EDIT the file. I just want that view then in non-presetation view because I hate animations that take more time than it takes me to read. Restricting funcionallity from a software acording to what some author chose when distributing is a form of DRM, even if it's really crappy and easily workaroundable. -- Hugo Osvaldo Barrera -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to users+h...@libreoffice.org Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/www/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
[libreoffice-users] Non-printing page label for table of contents
Hi, I am making a table of contents. I want to have labels for pages, but have those only only appear in the table of contents (they should not be visible on the page they are labeling). I would like these to stick with the content, so if I add a page before a page with a label, the label is moved down one page as well. Is there a way to do this? I tried using a frame and setting it to hidden, but the text in the table of contents was blank. I don't want to manually put custom lines in the table of contents, since that will break if I add or remove changes. -Todd -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to users+h...@libreoffice.org Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/www/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
[libreoffice-users] set which part of a caption is actually a caption
Is there a way to tell libreoffice where the caption text ends? For example, say I have a caption like such: Figure 1: This is my figure. After making the caption, I add this: Figure 1: The is my figure. A: part 1. B: Part 2 I only want the part I made first to be considered the caption, but any text I add after that is automatically included in the caption as well. So when I try to make a list of figures using the built-in indexes and tables tool, the captions are all 2 or 3 lines instead of 2 or 3 words. Is there a way to tell it to only count a certain portion as the caption? -Todd -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to users+h...@libreoffice.org Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/www/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
[libreoffice-users] Different outline numbering in table of contents and document
In my document, I have 3 level of numbering for headings: I. Level 1 1. Level 2 A. Level 3 to make it easier to follow, I made level 3 like show the last two levels I. Level 1 1. Level 2 1.A. Level 3 this works fine for the body, where people can lose track of where they are. But it doesn't make sense for the table of contents. Is there a way to make the table of contents look like the first case but make the headings in the body of the document look like the second case? -Todd -- Unsubscribe instructions: E-mail to users+h...@libreoffice.org Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/www/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted
