Re: [libreoffice-users] Given up spellchecking?

2011-08-03 Thread Mark Stanton
I had a look at this and it really is in the too hard category.
Loads of files and directories where you mention, just trying to work
out which ones should and shouldn't be hanging around was making my
head hurt.

On the other hand, the speel chucker is quite useful.

I'll have apply myself to it when I've got some time free (hah!).
If the next Fedora repository update doesn't clear it up, maybe I'll
just remove it completely and reinstall to see if that'll do it. :-(

Thanks

[libreoffice-users] Something strange : settings in Tools - Options - Impress - Print

2011-08-03 Thread Hirono Moi
Hi,

I am using LibreOffice 3.4.2 on WinXP and I have discovered a strange
thing : the settings in Tools - Options - Impress - Print dialog.

Step1
Create new Impress file and save as FileNameA.odp.

Step2
change the setting in Tools - Options - Impress - Print - Page
Options:
select Fit to page (from Default)
   and then Click OK

Step3
  Edit slide something
  and the Save

Step4
Creat new one more Impress file

Step5
Confirm the setting in Tools - Options - Impress - Print - Page
Options:
   stay in Fit to page

Step6
  save as FileNameB.odp

Step7
Close both of FileNameA.odp and FileNameB.odp

Step8
  Create new Impress file

Step9
Confirm the setting in Tools - Options - Impress - Print - Page
Options:
   stay in Fit to page

Step10
  Open FileNameA.odp

Step11
Confirm the setting in Tools - Options - Impress - Print - Page
Options:
  !? Default !?

Why I get Page Options:Default ??

Do I have missed something?
Is there anyone else experiencing this?
Is there a solution?
Is it a well known problem?

Best Regards,

Re: [libreoffice-users] Footnote page space (Writer)

2011-08-03 Thread Mark Stanton
Hi Tom,

Err, wot? Never mind, it's very much a document so I'm sticking with
Writer.

I`m actually using the context menu (right click on the page) and
selecting page from there, but it comes to the same dialogue.

Ok, a bit more research and some interesting results.

Another document, just the default page size (A4, 8.27 x 11.69 inches
with 0.79 inch margins all round) has a different, seemingly random,
size. The maximum footer size I can put in is 8.01 inches, or 20.36
cm, so at least that dispels the one figure plus two decimal places
idea.

My real document is set up as 4.53x7.32 (WxH) with margins of
0.65, 0.95, 0.98 and 1.01 (I know, but that`s what the book I`m
replicating appears to look like). The largest footnote space I can
specify is 3.93. Header is on but not footer. I can`t see anywhere
that defines the space the header will occupy. The spacing to
footnote contents is a paltry 0.04

?

Is there an easy way to do this.
Is it a feature request to have the data source automatically

Can you try exporting the presentation to PDF and see if the problem

Unless PDF export and rendering are closely tied, if this is a rendering

You can, like Regina suggested, make the document available so we can

Re: [libreoffice-users] problem to open a word docx file

2011-08-03 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
The problem probably is the image. Do you know what format the picture is in?

The best formats are svg (scalar vector graphics), png, jpg, tiff (i hope), gif
err, there is a long list of others that are also compatible with many
programs. MS likes to try to force people into using formats that are not
compatible with non-MS programs as it forces people to buy their products.
Even
their new docX format does not always appear the same when viewed in different
releases of their own MS Office. So people still using the 'old' MS Office
2007
are forced into buying the newer MS Office 2010, and 'soon' the newer release.
Compare with Open Document Formats or even Open Standards.

MS' 'old' .doc format is now widely compatible with a huge range of programs
which is one of the main reasons (imo) that they created the docX format. MS
is
a profit-making company that uses software to create profits for their
shareholders.

Tom :)

Thanks, Tom.
Like I mentioned earlier on, I also use 3.3.3 in parallel under Windows/Vista

don't have any real problems in that environment. By the way, I also just tried

use JDBC for connecting to BASE under Debian - the error of not being able to

Hi,

yes i ment Visio. Sorry for the typo. I checked it and it is indeed an OLE

I further investigated this and removed LO 3.4.2 and installed 3.3.2 again. And

the 3.4 branch.

How can I give you further information to fix this bug? Unfortunatly I cannot

Hi Tom,
Looks like this might be the only choice in the mid/long term. It's a real pity,
however. I have to write reports based on tables in my database quite often and
have defined numerous reports using the Report Writer (I hope that THAT piece
of software will be with us for a while yet!!). Of course I can re-define the
reports on the basis of a csv-file imported to the writer, but this is
definitely
more work, not an advertisement for LO and not ideal by any means.
Regarding using a different front-end, I will have a look at programs such as
phpMyAdmin - again, in my mind !no comparison!
Thanks

Subject: [libreoffice-users] Changing data in a MySQL-table using Base

 Hello,
Under LO 3.4.2, when I try to change a value in a table I get back the message
no data changed. I then have to revert data entry, upon which the original
value is displayed. I am using BASE with ODBC under Debian/Wheezy. How do I
 report a bug?
Thanks for attending to this problem.

Re: [libreoffice-users] problem to open a word docx file

2011-08-03 Thread webmaster for Kracked Press Productions

I use to deal with a lot of Visio documents. DIA may still be able to
load these files, but I had problems installing my copy of Visio onto
Win-Vista so I had to drop using it. Now that Ubuntu is my default
system, I needed to find alternatives to Visio as well.

To be frank, MS Publisher files are not supported in most third-party
software, and Visio files use to work with DIA diagram editor. It would
be great if some really ambitious person would make a filter/extension
that would give LibreOffice the ability to read those files and maybe
even edit them. But I do not remember if they included those formats
for their ISO format bit to take over ODF's spot as the International
Standard for office suite file formats. If they did include them, then
somewhere there should be some documentation on those formats, otherwise
it will be a much tougher problem.

On 08/03/2011 09:13 AM, Loddi Li wrote:

Hi,

yes i ment Visio. Sorry for the typo. I checked it and it is indeed an OLE
object.
I further investigated this and removed LO 3.4.2 and installed 3.3.2 again. And
with this version the whole document is showing up. So I guess I found a bug in
the 3.4 branch.

How can I give you further information to fix this bug? Unfortunatly I cannot
provide the document, because it includes some sensitive data.

[libreoffice-users] How can be a property update from python?

2011-08-03 Thread Alberto
Hi everybody,

I want to set a custom property (like AuthorLastName) in a document
before saving it as PDF.

This in python (I want to generate the document as part of a larger script).

I managed to update the fields using:
dispatcher.executeDispatch(frame, .uno:UpdateAll, , 0, ())

I cannot find hot to change a property, this:
dispatcher.executeDispatch(frame, .uno:SetDocumentProperties, , 0,
properties)
Opens the property view, which is not what I want.

Where can I find some documentation about this?
Many thanks,

[libreoffice-users] Base 3.4.2 doesn't run on Windows 7

2011-08-03 Thread Juan Antonio
Hello. I've installed LibreOffice 3.4.2 in *Windows 7*, and Base doesn't open
any odb file. When I try to do, it seems to open but suddenly closes. When I
create a new odb file, it closes too, as soon as after using the database

Base 3.4.1 has this problem too. I thought it was a bug that would be fixed
in the new version 3.4.2, but now I don't know. But in Windows XP don't have
that problem.

Thanks.

Hi :)
It would be good to post a bug-report about it. There are no devs working on
Base and none likely to start any time soon so you either need to use MS Access
or perhaps try Win7 compatibility mode to see if you can run Base as though it
was in Xp. (or stick to Xp for that database of course)

do not know about installing Ubuntu/LibreOffice stuff from someone

Well, I did not know Google Summer of Code was working with

[libreoffice-users] Movie to Impress to PDF

2011-08-03 Thread Keith Lofstrom

I would like to imbed full screen movies (I can make either mpeg
or swf) in Impress presentations, and export the presentation
as PDF, usable with Acrobat Reader or other PDF viewer out of
the box, platform independently.

Is there a way to use LibreOffice do this?

BTW, I normally present with a web browser with Javascript (any
platform) and my own tool, wydiwys: http://server-sky.com/wydiwys
Here is one of my movie slides (made with povray and png2swf):

http://launchloop.com/slides/SEloop/elevator_D_LOOP.html

( space, backspace, HOME and END work like Impress, ENTER takes
you in and out of the hierarchical navigation menus )

But there are still those who insist on PDF (or, Cthulu Help Us, PPT).
I would rather make PDFs for them than tell them to take a hike.

Thanks;

[libreoffice-users] Connect To Oracle Via JDBC Using Macro

2011-08-03 Thread opticyclic
I want to create a spreadsheet that connects to a customers database and
pulls out statistical info into various sheets and presents it nicely.

I am using a portable version of LibreOffice with an appropriate JDK/JRE and
ojdbc6.jar in a sub-folder.

My first step is to connect to the Oracle database.
I can do it by opening Base and putting in the JDBC connection details and
username /password.
I can then go back to Calc and use it.
However, when I go to a client it will be a new connection and I'd rather
just click a single button rather than flip around between 2 applications
setting things up.

How would I do these steps using a macro?
i.e.
take the connection details from a range in the sheet (the customer would
enter these details)
create a new connection to Oracle
run an sql query
put the output onto a new sheet

I'm proficient in Java and VBA but I am new to LibreOffice macros so I just
need some pointers on how to get going.

Thanks
