Re: [libreoffice-users] can't print t[w]o pages on a single side of paper
No, I mean PDF. I think LibreOffice sends a PDF formated page to the printer driver. Maybe the page is malformed or the printer driver isn't working correct. You can see the printer language if you open the print dialog, klick on the printer and then on properties you get a new window. Select the tab device and here you have the printer language PDF (don't know if the Words of the tab etc. are correct since I use a german version). Again: setting this to PostScript (Level of the Driver) resolves the problem - but that are too much clicks for a print job. I sure did not read it having a PDF language option. So something is not right. Could PDF here mean Printer Defined Format for the language used? ... but in context with PS - I don't think that printer defined format is being used. In Linux printing works like this (I think) cups (common unix printing system) gets the data, converts them to PS, sends them to the rip and then to the Printer Driver (more on http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/CUPS-printing.html#cups1). Can the Postscript type level from driver be kept as the default option somehow? Maybe the Printer Administration shown was a module of LO 3.4 [at least with Ubuntu]? I believe that module of LO was designed to set up the printers to run properly with LO. I've searched around and found nothing. I wondered what OpenSUSE uses as a replacement package, so I looked it up on the site. On the opensuse.org site, 12.1 is in RC till November 16th. I searched the packages and there are 3 rpm package files [depending on the computer] for cups-pdf-2.5.1-1.1 If I read the site correctly, 12.1 is the opensuse/factory development version since it still is in development till November 16th. So the search for the cups pdf package in that and the other version come up with a .rpm file to download and install it. So it should be in the OpenSUSE version of a repository. http://software.opensuse.org/search?q=cups+pdfbaseproject=openSUSE%3AFactorylang=enexclude_debug=true http://software.opensuse.org/search?q=cups+pdfbaseproject=openSUSE%3AFactorylang=enexclude_debug=true I wonder why it was not part of the ISO that you downloaded to install OpenSUSE? No it isn't. But as far as I know package cups-pdf does only give me a pdf-printer. Actually I had trouble with OpenSUSE, the one time I tried using it. I have an IBM server that originally had SUSE installed on it, so the icon tag showed. But I bought it with the OS, and everything else, wiped off the 3 SCSI drives that 2002 era P-4 IBM server had. So I downloaded OpenSUSE [3 or 4 years ago] and tried to install it, but it would not install. So I ended using an old copy of Win2000/pro till I ended up putting Ubuntu on it 2 years ago. So I never had any luck with OpenSUSE. If they do not include, in their ISOs, something as simple as the PDF package that is part of the CUPS printer environment, I do not know what to think. My Epson printer uses a driver that uses CUPS as its backend so I can print using Linux computers. Printing from all other programs, for example from the preview, works fine. I could create a pdf document from LibreOffice and print it - two pages on a sheet - with preview! Do not get me wrong, OpenSUSE might be a great Linux OS, since businesses are what it tends to be what it is marketed towards, but I just had one bad experience and did not look back. I use Ubuntu, and other people tell me to try such-n-such Linux distro since they think it is the best you can get. We have one person on this board that is involved in developing the Mandriva, which was Mandrake. I was taught Linux using Mandrake 7.x, back 10 to 11 years ago [if I remember correctly, and I still have a CD of it]. That one is in the top 10 of the list of distros I came across on a distro watch site. OpenSUSE is on that list as well. Arch Linux is considered an advanced user distro while OpenSUSE is a middle-of-the-road one. Their terms, not mine. But we each have our favorite ones. I have mine and you have yours. That it what it should be. Offtopic - anyway: I'm often trying different distros (just for fun and) to see how they develop. Every distro has it's own pros and cons. (I haven't found a perfect distro for me). I'm going to check ubuntu again (last time was a year ago). But ubuntu is somehow proprietary which I dislike. And since I set up some computers for friends I'm always looking for a distro with actual software and long and good support - which is opensuse (do you know another?) Just open the existing DocX in either Android or MS and then File (or golden orb) - Save As ... and choose something like older Word 97/2000/Xp I would experiment with Odt as it is a superior format, even the older 1.1, but using it might require changing the defaults for LibreOffice Tools - Options - + Load/Save - General In the middle of that page you can change the ODF format to the older one and at the bottom you can change the defaults from ODF (Odt, Ods, Odp etc) to MS Office ones (Doc, Xls, Ppt). In your list of forms in the main ODB window, right mouse button click on your form and choose Edit (or Modify, I'm not sure of the exact term, my version of LibO is in French). This should open the form in Form Edit mode, where you can swap field control parts, add new fields etc. If you are adding new fields, then they need to already exist in your database table first. As for your dropdown list : Enter Form Edit mode. Select your control (possibly having to Enter Group first) Right-mouse button click on the control and choose Replace with Choose Combobox Now right-mouse button click on your combobox control. Choose Control from the context menu. In the List Content Type choose SQL from the dropdown choices. In the List Content field, enter : SELECT myfield FROM mytable, replacing myfield with the field you want the data to be selected from and mytable with the table name from which the data is taken. Close the Control Properties window. Save the changes to your form. Close your form. Double-click on your form to open it in data edit/entry mode. You should be able to now select pre-entered data from the dropdown list and additionally add new data into the same field. Just remember to save your changes before you close the form again (or just switch to another record), and the database before you close the ODB file. ALL records have a graphic, it is a visual identification of the Status of the person in each record. There are no Boolean fields or Macros or anything like that and all the data comes out of ONE table. However I did experiment at one time by adding a couple of buttons to do things automatically. ie a button next to the eMail address to send an eMail to that person. Maybe I should remove these for now and see if these are causing the problem - what do you think?? The form saved outside of the database shouldn't contain any personal data other than that of the user that created it (and only then if you have filled in those details in the corresponding LO Options screen). Therefore you can define a style only for the whole object not for single characters. Hard styling is restricted to font attributes of the tabs 'font' and 'font effect'. If you search in https://issues.apache.org/ooo/ you will find a lot of issues about the restriction of text in Draw/Impress. In Draw/Impress it is no problem to group objects. So for getting a background, draw a colored rectangle, place it behind the word, and group all together. That has the additional effect, that you can animate this 'hightlighting'. RE: [libreoffice-users] LO Conflicts with OOo
It makes perfect sense that OOo and LO could be installed side by side and also run at the same time. The problem is that they all lay claim to the same program names, library names, and probably registry settings. (The use of the same program names is why Windows, for example, can't have Open With ... for both LO, and OOo on the association of programs with file extensions, such as .odt and .ods. (But one can add Open With ... Microsoft Word, WinZip, etc. Different versions of the same product are harder for Windows to distinguish with Open With ..., absent some creative work on the part of the producers of those product versions.) Now that there are different lineages progressing from a common OO.o 3.2-or-so base, there needs to be a way to avoid collisions with parallel efforts and the common past versions. For users, all of their choices should work. Running a portable version should work. Having user accounts with different versions should work, etc. I suspect that these cases have simply not been dealt with systematically, although clearly there has been some attention to it. And if it is by design to not all concurrent operation, I would expect gentle handling when an user violates that constraint. (I have no recommendation on what installs are on top of what previous versions of the same product. It may be a little too course-grained that any LO 3.y will replace any LO 3.x where x y, although that is a second-order problem. It is good that LO 3.y does not replace OOo 3.x, and vice versa.) - Dennis -Original Message- From: Stephan Zietsman [mailto:szi...@gmail.com] Sent: Thursday, October 27, 2011 05:44 To: users@global.libreoffice.org Subject: Re: [libreoffice-users] LO Conflicts with OOo Harold Fuchs wrote: [ ... ] I may be mistaken but as far as I know, LO and OOo are not expected to run at the same time (so I don't think it is a bug). Hi :) Hmm, interesting. On a desktop OS you can usually right-click on a file, go down to properties and use that to change which program opens that type of file. RE: [libreoffice-users] DOCX file from Android Office Suite will not open
First, rough-screening test results: The newtext.docx file that was produced with the Mobi Office Suite works as follows: LO 3.3.2 fails to open it, reporting a general input-output error. Word 2010 opens it just fine. I modified the document in Word 2010 by adding a sentence to it and saving that as a new file. LO 3.3.2 opens the modified document just fine. Inspection of Zip structure of the two documents reveals that the version saved by Word 2010 has two more files, a docProps/app.xml file and a word/StylesWithEffects.xml file. There is no obvious difference at this high level to indicate how the document failed to be recognized as an OOXML WordDocumentML document by LO. It is also possible that the difference is in the Zip encoding in some way in which Word 2010 is forgiving and LO is not. The failure to recognize what the document is appears to happen at a very immediate level in LO access to the file. More detailed examination is required. - Dennis E. RE: [libreoffice-users] LO Conflicts with OOo
Hi :) There is a guide to help avoid the usual conflicts http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Installing_in_parallel I think the problems are mostly when both version are open at the same time, for example if one is permanently kinda open by having it's QuickLauncher on. Regards from Tom :) --- On Sat, 29/10/11, Dennis E. Hamilton dennis.hamil...@acm.org wrote: From: Dennis E. Hamilton dennis.hamil...@acm.org Subject: RE: [libreoffice-users] LO Conflicts with OOo To: users@global.libreoffice.org Date: Saturday, 29 October, 2011, 18:18 It makes perfect sense that OOo and LO could be installed side by side and also run at the same time. Re: [libreoffice-users] Base: creating a dropdown field form
Here is where I think we're getting mixed up. The contents of the combobox. I want the contents of the ComboBox to be Singstar 80s, Singstar 90s, Singstar Amped that's it. I don't want to fill it is the contents of another table or field. I just want to enter in a choices literally. This is the problem I'm having. Very simple situation. If the contents of the combobox isn't a property of your list of tracks/discs/whatever, what use is it? If it's something to do with your data, then it's got to be in your data. If it's in your data, pull it out and populate the combobox with it. If it isn't in your data, even if you type it in manually, how are you going to use it? At a wild guess, you've got codes in your data representing these categories. If that's the case, create a lookup table and put your code/text correspondences in there. Or have I guessed wrong? Also the other way round is possible, running one application with different users settings at the same time, again different folders for the user settings are needed. Only the association between document type and program is unique. That is still a *serious* issue. Re: [libreoffice-users] Writer Thesaurus
Thesaurus is grayed out where? In LO? or the external one? Artha is a good external Thesaurus and Dictionary that I am running on Ubuntu 10.04. Install this dictionary/hyphen/thesaurus .oxt file. http://libreoffice-na.us/English-3.4-installs/add-on-dictionaries-large-list/English_dict__with_fixed_dash_handling2010-03-15.oxt Also try this Language Tool. Actually it is not the newest one. http://libreoffice-na.us/English-3.4-installs/add-ons-extensions/LanguageTool-1.2.oxt This tool helps with dictionary and thesaurus functions, but you need to have Java installed to use it. If you have installed both .oxt files and you still have the Thesaurus option grayed out, then there is something wrong with the LO install, or somehow 11.xx has some problems with their internal dictionary system; or so I have been told that LO might use the MySpell/Hunspell, or other internal dictionary system. I have hunspell for en-US, but myspell for -en-gb, en-au, -en-za, and a few others. I also have the libreoffice3-dict-en, libreoffice3.4-dict-en packages installed. It seems I have a lot of packages names with both 3.3 and 3.4 version. I wonder if you installed the openoffice.org-thesaurus-en-us package [if it is shown in the Synaptic Package Manager for 11.xx] would help at all?
