Yup, same here. I found nice manuals, but all just basic ones (not
Basic), and no macros.
The forum post looks like it's got some useful ones, but no
conditional pictures, unless I missed that.

can come up with that link, in addition to what Fernand is referring

Always good to see!

On the other hand: without macro's I'm able already to do all kind of
mass mailings, including conditional texts etc.
Proper mastering the available features, so that you do not have to
write macro's, can save a lot of time :-)

I have done that, a folder under /common, and puted there my templates.

I think you may have placed your Impress template in the wrong

Open LO. Use Tools Options LibreOffice Paths to find the
correct path for yourfor templates that should only be visible in LO for
the computer where L templates. Click Templates to highlight it, and
then click the Edit button. The top path is where your templates should
be placed for all the computers to see. The bottom path is the one you
noticed will not do what you want.
For my installation of LO 3.4.5, the correct path for what you
 would want is
libreoffice3.4/basis3.4/share/template/common.
For your computer setup, there should only be one folder in the common
 folder: layout.
You could place your Impress template in the layout folder inside
the common folder. It would appear in the Presentations Backgrounds
 folder.
My suggestion: create two folders in the common folder: writer, and
Impress. Place the writer template in the writer folder and the Impress
template in the impress folder. Then when you have the Templates and
Documents - Templates dialog open, you will see several folders listed
including My Templates, writer, and Impress. Inside the writer folder
will be your writer template; inside the impress folder will be your
 impress template.d

(I hope somebody can correct me on this as this is the way I want to go

Even better would be to add useful comments to bugzilla, that help the

[libreoffice-users] Re: Export as PDF in LO 3.5

2012-02-09 Thread CVAlkan
Tinkerer:

No, it's not just you, at least regarding the Writer module.

The Export to PDF function has been broken for some time, but seems to be
related to the size of the output pdf document (it seems to work just fine
for me on smaller files), but I can't confirm that. I have experienced the
identical problem on several machines with disparate OSs (Windows XP,
Windows Vista, and Ubuntu Linux), and with various versions of Libre Office
(including the latest Windows version 3.4.5), although the symptoms
sometimes vary: every now and then it will politely inform me that Writer
crashed, and then die, but other times Writer just disappears immediately
after a certain point. The bug number for this seems to be 32771, but I
haven't been able to locate any indication that it is recognized by the
developers as an actual bug or that they have confirmed it.

The problem might be exacerbated by the fact that there is another bug -
when restarting Writer (or Office) after an export to pdf crash, a message
box appears to say that the file needs to be recovered (which, thankfully,
has always been successful), and then instructs you that the error report
tool will automatically start, which it never does. As far as I can
determine from poking around, there is no way to start this tool and thus
I'm not sure it even exists, although there are descriptions of how to use
it available on line.

Without being able to use the data supplied by the error reporting tool, it
is likely that there may not be enough information about the pdf generation
failure for the developers to identify what's going wrong.

I've probably used every version of every word processor since Telewriter-64
and the standalone IBM models in the late 1970s, including all the personal
computer biggies, and finally decided that I was just plain tired of putting
up with Word's constant changes in interface (while maintaining the same
bugs and annoyances) - and paying significant bucks for the privilege. So I
decided that my current book would be done entirely with open-source stuff -
hence Libre. I sure hope these issues can be addressed.

Think PDF-function is related to the size of the document. I have always
use that function on smaller documents, recently I had to convert file
of 1200 pages - it breaks. I manage my probem diferently, pasted text to
Geditn, add html and /html and now I am using that as a web-page. It
is fast and easy.

But I am not finding that as a problem, who does 1200 pages on every day
basis? Although never tried on a document with 200 pages - I think LO
must be able to convert kind of file to PDF.

The Writer Guide for LO is 536 pages long. LO converted this from a
Master Document in .odt format to PDF. So, this size is possible.
I'm wondering if the amount of RAM on the system has something to
do with the problem. Seems like the larger the number of pages to be
converted, the more RAM it would require. Perhaps someone else would
know more about this.

identical problem on several machines with disparate OSs (Windows XP,
Windows Vista, and Ubuntu Linux), and with various versions of Libre Office

Will the book print to file (ps).
Then will it convert with ps2pdf.

I do this with may be 50% of my PDF generation where LO just doesn't get
it right. Unfortunately lose linking from the index.

I have a little script in my menu so I just click on the ps file to convert.

#! /bin/bash
# convert ps to pdf
  path=`dirname $1`
  base=`basename $1`
  pdffile=${base%.*}.pdf
  outfile=$path/$pdffile
echo infile $1
echo outfile $outfile
/usr/bin/ps2pdf -r600 -dCompatibilityLevel=1.4 -dPDFSETTINGS=/prepress
-dEmbedAllFonts=true $1 $outfile

Using the BasicAddonBuilder under Libo3.4.x seems to not pick up the
language string tables for dialogs in the basic library being packaged
into an OXT - so after install on the new machine the dialog comes up
with those place holder item_tag names for strings..pretty ugly.

writer document, from a template... and I don't have my template.

Yes, the same question all world do. But I don't find the response.

The $user_directory//template is not good for me, because it's for
 a
masive installation, and I need do default modifications.

The path, where LO looks for templates are set in Tools Options
LibreOffice Paths Template. If you will stick to the predefined
path, then you must put your own template under that path. Files, which
are immediately in that folder are shown in the category My Templates.
If you put your template into a subfolder, the subfolder is shown as
category and you will find your template there. A sub-sub-folder will
not be shown in the category, so you need a flat hierarchy.

  Kind regards
  Regina

The path he needs to use ends in .../template/common because his LO
installation is on a server. This permits people from other computers to
use LO and the same templates.
If templates are placed in the common folder, they will not be
seen. A folder must first be created in the common folder and the
templates placed in the created folder. (See my earlier post.)
There is another path for templates which is in the user's LO
folder. This path ends in .../user/template. Templates placed in the
template folder of this path will be seen. Templates in this path are
only visible on one computer which is why this path would not work for
 him.

[libreoffice-users] Programatically changing the properties of a multselection (group)

2012-02-09 Thread Russell D Mileham

I am building a Base form where I would like to group several controls and
enable/disable them based on the actions of the user. When I group the
controls, the Enabled property can be set in the Properties: Multiselection
dialog through the GUI, but I can't seem to figure out how to access the group
properties in a macro. I have tried accessing a Model of the Group using
getByName(GroupName), followed by accessing the view using getControl(Model).
However, it appears that what I get is a Model and View of the first control
element contained in the group. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks,

Ah, did miss the start of the thread.
Depends on the amount / size of pictures of course.
With random pictures, as the data itself, I would not know.
If there are few available pictures to choose from, it could work with
conditional hidden paragraphs.

I use to store pictures as references to files in the same directory as
the odb document. This way all you need to store in a VARCHAR field is
the file names of the pictures. In a form you can bind a picture control
to the text field and you will not encounter the usual performance problems.

When you import the text field content into a serial letter, all you
need is a macro to replace the text field with a picture object linked
to the external file (anchor as character, fixed size,...).

2012-02-09 Thread Mark Stanton
Hi Fernand,

I'm quite happy with the (idea of the) macro solution, I was just
interested if there was another simpler/easier one.

I really don't want to put images in a table, particularly in this
case where the picture is either 'A' or 'B', although I s'pose if I
can get it there as a result of a query it might be just about
bearable.

What I'd really like is an image control with a conditional display
expression. I may try to produce one, but not for a while I think.

Agreed, but can you set it up to make the paragraph as invisible
depending on whether or not you have a varchar string ? I imagine so,
but that is the question that the original poster was asking. Your macro
would need to take care of that piece of trickery in order to mark the
paragraph/section where the image is to be inserted as hidden when equal
to NULL.

Personally I do not care about cosmetic trivia like an empty line in an
address frame. But replacing the database field with nothing when the
content is an empty string should be doable.
Nevertheless, my idea will not work since you can not replace the
placeholder field with its file name content since the placeholder is
just that.
But anything along that line should work after you printed into another
odt document and keep track of the places where the picture should be
placed (or not). I am not familiar with Writer.
I do not have the academic degree to understand the infamous streaming
document on the OOo developer site. And I am very confident that even
the best fabricated byte stream will not work in the context of the data
access API which is obviously broken beyond repair.

I will work on getting the form out somewhere accessable. In the mean time, the
code I am trying to use looks like this:

Sub updateControlValue(Event As Object)

Dim Form As Object
Dim Controller As Object
Dim Model As Object
Dim Control As Object

Form=Event.Source.Model.Parent
Model=Form.getByName(testGroup)
Controller=Form.Parent.Parent.CurrentController
Control=Controller.getControl(Model)
Control.Enable=FALSE

End Sub

This works well on an individual form control, but when trying to apply it to a
Group of controls it fails to change the Multiselection Property. My gut tells
me that there is a different Method or Service that I need to use to access the
Group Properties, but I haven't had any luck identifying what it is.

Thanks,

Not sure if you mean that you attached the .oxt, the list doesn't allow

For future reference, you can add an attachment to an email and then
include both the list address and a direct address for someone - the
list will strip it out, the direct address recipient will receive it.

[libreoffice-users] Paragraph format problem

2012-02-09 Thread .

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

I have a hundreds of paragraphs that need to be fixed so that they fit
the width of the pages in which they are located.

Presently, the paragraphs are about 4 wide and all have the
non-printing character at the end of each text line that looks like a
backward letter P with a line next to it.

Is there a quick way to get rid of this problem?

It sounds to me that the text came from a hard-wrapped text file (like
an email). A workaround would be to save the paragraph contents to a

Hi :)
You can always upload an attachment to Nabble to keep it with the thread and
allow everyone to see it. It worked well in the first post in this thread.

WooHoo! It's working now - the problem was I created the add on with an
incomplete install of LibO on my Ubuntu! I fixed my install and used the
BasicAddon creator to re-create it, so it is rendering perfectly in windows
now.

Thanks for all your help!

For future reference, you can add an attachment to an email and then

list will strip it out, the direct address recipient will receive it.

The backward P denotes a CR/LF so what you have every line is a
paragraph removing this without removing the ones you want may be tricky.

I am curious, how many pages/characters are in the file?

I found this via OOo:

It should help you with your problem.

According to the documentation you are dealing with a type of regular
expression

Is there a blank line between what *should* be the paragraphs? If so, I

Re: [libreoffice-users] Paragraph format problem

2012-02-09 Thread jomali
That won't help because the end-of-line indication is part of the
structure, not the format of the document.

I'm afraid the only way I've ever found to solve this problem is to put a
second hard return at the end of each paragraph, do a find and replace of a
double hard return, replacing it with QQQ (or some other unlikely to occur
character sequence), then doing a find and replace of single hard returns,
replacing them with nothing, then doing a find and replace on QQQ,
replacing the placeholder characters with hard returns. It's a lot of
manual work, but it works.

In other words, each line is actually a separate paragraph.

Is there a quick way to get rid of this problem?

Yes.

o Go to Tools | AutoCorrect Options... | Options, and tick Combine
single line paragraphs if length greater than 50%.

o Go to Format | AutoCorrect | Apply.

Notes:

o You may need to reduce that value of 50% to make the facility work
properly in your case. Click on the text of the option and the
Edit... button below will light up and enable you to edit the 50%
value to a suitable smaller one.

o How are your real paragraph breaks indicated in your text? There
will need to be consecutive paragraph marks to show these if you are
not to end up with a single enormous paragraph, of course. (This
will mean that the text has an empty paragraph between each pair of
real paragraphs - though you may think of these as blank
lines.) If you need to add these, you may find it easier to do so first.

o Applying AutoCorrect will make other changes to your text - which
you may not want. You can avoid this in two ways: either switch off
unwanted changes in the AutoCorrect dialogue or - more easily - use
Format | AutoCorrect | Apply and Edit Changes instead. Then choose
Edit Changes when challenged. Now click the Comment column header in
the Accept or Reject AutoFormat Changes panel; this sorts all the
changes of a particular type together. Select all the Combine
paragraphs lines together (using Shift-click or Shift-arrow in the
usual way) and click Accept. Now click Reject All to reject all other changes.

I trust this helps.

If that's right it should be fairly simple. A bit of a nuisance because
the two stamps will appear in (very) slightly different places on the
page (one paragraph up or down), but I also don't care about such trivia.

Agreed, but can you set it up to make the paragraph as invisible
depending on whether or not you have a varchar string ?

No, that's not quite my question. There will *always* be a picture, and it
is either a picture of a first class stamp or a second class one. But I
want whichever stamp it is to appear in (almost) the same place according to
destination (international or domestic). See my answer to Cor below.

I had thought the anchor point was outside the paragraph structure, but that
appears not to be the case, and y'all seem to be saying that hiding or
showing the paragraph that the anchor is in will hide or show the picture
anchored to it.

If that's right, then that is my solution.

It would be much nicer to have an image field that could be conditionally
hidden...
