Re: [libreoffice-users] Default path for templates
Thanks, Dan. I have done that, a folder under /common, and puted there my templates. And the solution is fine for me. I think you may have placed your Impress template in the wrong folder even though it is visible. Open LO. Use Tools Options LibreOffice Paths to find the correct path for yourfor templates that should only be visible in LO for the computer where L templates. Click Templates to highlight it, and then click the Edit button. The top path is where your templates should be placed for all the computers to see. The bottom path is the one you noticed will not do what you want. For my installation of LO 3.4.5, the correct path for what you would want is libreoffice3.4/basis3.4/share/template/common. For your computer setup, there should only be one folder in the common folder: layout. You could place your Impress template in the layout folder inside the common folder. It would appear in the Presentations Backgrounds folder. My suggestion: create two folders in the common folder: writer, and Impress. Place the writer template in the writer folder and the Impress template in the impress folder. Then when you have the Templates and Documents - Templates dialog open, you will see several folders listed including My Templates, writer, and Impress. [libreoffice-users] Re: Export as PDF in LO 3.5
Tinkerer: No, it's not just you, at least regarding the Writer module. The Export to PDF function has been broken for some time, but seems to be related to the size of the output pdf document (it seems to work just fine for me on smaller files), but I can't confirm that. I have experienced the identical problem on several machines with disparate OSs (Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Ubuntu Linux), and with various versions of Libre Office (including the latest Windows version 3.4.5), although the symptoms sometimes vary: every now and then it will politely inform me that Writer crashed, and then die, but other times Writer just disappears immediately after a certain point. The bug number for this seems to be 32771, but I haven't been able to locate any indication that it is recognized by the developers as an actual bug or that they have confirmed it. The problem might be exacerbated by the fact that there is another bug - when restarting Writer (or Office) after an export to pdf crash, a message box appears to say that the file needs to be recovered (which, thankfully, has always been successful), and then instructs you that the error report tool will automatically start, which it never does. As far as I can determine from poking around, there is no way to start this tool and thus I'm not sure it even exists, although there are descriptions of how to use it available on line. Without being able to use the data supplied by the error reporting tool, it is likely that there may not be enough information about the pdf generation failure for the developers to identify what's going wrong. I've probably used every version of every word processor since Telewriter-64 and the standalone IBM models in the late 1970s, including all the personal computer biggies, and finally decided that I was just plain tired of putting up with Word's constant changes in interface (while maintaining the same bugs and annoyances) - and paying significant bucks for the privilege. So I decided that my current book would be done entirely with open-source stuff - hence Libre. I sure hope these issues can be addressed. Hi Fernand, I'm quite happy with the (idea of the) macro solution, I was just interested if there was another simpler/easier one. I really don't want to put images in a table, particularly in this case where the picture is either 'A' or 'B', although I s'pose if I can get it there as a result of a query it might be just about bearable. Agreed, but can you set it up to make the paragraph as invisible depending on whether or not you have a varchar string ? I imagine so, but that is the question that the original poster was asking. Your macro would need to take care of that piece of trickery in order to mark the paragraph/section where the image is to be inserted as hidden when equal to NULL. Personally I do not care about cosmetic trivia like an empty line in an address frame. But replacing the database field with nothing when the content is an empty string should be doable. Nevertheless, my idea will not work since you can not replace the placeholder field with its file name content since the placeholder is just that. But anything along that line should work after you printed into another odt document and keep track of the places where the picture should be placed (or not). I am not familiar with Writer. I do not have the academic degree to understand the infamous streaming document on the OOo developer site. And I am very confident that even the best fabricated byte stream will not work in the context of the data access API which is obviously broken beyond repair. -- For unsubscribe instructions e-mail to: users+h...@global.libreoffice.org Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://listarchives.libreoffice.org/global/users/ All messages sent to this list will be publicly archived and cannot be deleted

Re: [libreoffice-users] Paragraph format problem
That won't help because the end-of-line indication is part of the structure, not the format of the document. I'm afraid the only way I've ever found to solve this problem is to put a second hard return at the end of each paragraph, do a find and replace of a double hard return, replacing it with QQQ (or some other unlikely to occur character sequence), then doing a find and replace of single hard returns, replacing them with nothing, then doing a find and replace on QQQ, replacing the placeholder characters with hard returns. It's a lot of manual work, but it works. jomali On Thu, Feb 9, 2012 at 8:04 PM, Calvin Kim cal...@4to14window.com wrote: On 02/09/2012 05:46 PM, . wrote: On 02/09/2012 05:32 PM, Dotan Cohen wrote: On Fri, Feb 10, 2012 at 00:19, .peace@aleksandrsolzhenitsyn.**netpe...@aleksandrsolzhenitsyn.net wrote: -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 I have a hundreds of paragraphs that need to be fixed so that they fit the width of the pages in which they are located. Presently, the paragraphs are about 4 wide and all have the non-printing character at the end of each text line that looks like a backward letter P with a line next to it. In other words, each line is actually a separate paragraph. Is there a quick way to get rid of this problem? Yes. o Go to Tools | AutoCorrect Options... | Options, and tick Combine single line paragraphs if length greater than 50%. o Go to Format | AutoCorrect | Apply. Notes: o You may need to reduce that value of 50% to make the facility work properly in your case. Click on the text of the option and the Edit... button below will light up and enable you to edit the 50% value to a suitable smaller one. o How are your real paragraph breaks indicated in your text? There will need to be consecutive paragraph marks to show these if you are not to end up with a single enormous paragraph, of course. (This will mean that the text has an empty paragraph between each pair of real paragraphs - though you may think of these as blank lines.) If you need to add these, you may find it easier to do so first. o Applying AutoCorrect will make other changes to your text - which you may not want. You can avoid this in two ways: either switch off unwanted changes in the AutoCorrect dialogue or - more easily - use Format | AutoCorrect | Apply and Edit Changes instead. Then choose Edit Changes when challenged. Now click the Comment column header in the Accept or Reject AutoFormat Changes panel; this sorts all the changes of a particular type together. Select all the Combine paragraphs lines together (using Shift-click or Shift-arrow in the usual way) and click Accept. Now click Reject All to reject all other changes. I trust this helps. A bit of a nuisance because the two stamps will appear in (very) slightly different places on the page (one paragraph up or down), but I also don't care about such trivia. In article jh1c19$53k$1...@dough.gmane.org, Alex Thurgood wrote: Agreed, but can you set it up to make the paragraph as invisible depending on whether or not you have a varchar string ? No, that's not quite my question. There will *always* be a picture, and it is either a picture of a first class stamp or a second class one. But I want whichever stamp it is to appear in (almost) the same place according to destination (international or domestic). See my answer to Cor below. I had thought the anchor point was outside the paragraph structure, but that appears not to be the case, and y'all seem to be saying that hiding or showing the paragraph that the anchor is in will hide or show the picture anchored to it. If that's right, then that is my solution. It would be much nicer to have an image field that could be conditionally hidden...
