Please : Some Notes  details for the use of the file:

It is a complete accounting double entry for businesses.

The worksheets are to be observed:

PROSPETTO CODICI (which contains 2 PivotTable): one for a CODICI
DARE and one for CODICI AVERE

The origin of the data is in the worksheet PRIMA NOTA.

activity 1) If you update the PivotTable CODICI AVERE (red numbers),
updating the Codes field disappears and the pivot table does not work.

Task 2) If you ask in the Pivot table detail of a code (double click
on an amount in AVERE column or DARE column) opens a worksheet regularly
with details.

If you make the task 1) or 2) in the worksheet named BILANCIO CE
columns C (visible column) and F (hidden column) where the functions are
written in the cells GETPIVOTDATA refer to 2 Pivot Tables do not contain
more results GETPIVOTDATA = function no longer works.

Even rewriting the Pivot Tables and rewriting the GETPIVOTDATA function
in those cells (the cells before deleting), the function from the
results that more has to give. And then the balance is no longer results

1) Seems the row field is missing, WHY? I don't know, maybe a bug. Edit 
the PT add the field Cod. R/D to row fields and PT works again.


2) Calc have been a deep rework on the core for 4.1,
seems that the second form of GETPIVOTDATA, what you are using doesn't 
work, but the first form works for me:

in cell BILANCIOCEE.C10:
=GETPIVOTDATA(DARE;'PROSPETTO CODICI'.$A$3;'PROSPETTO CODICI'.$A$3;$A10).

Printing a Brochure
You can print a Writer document as a brochure or a booklet. That is, 
Writer prints two pages on each side of the paper, so that when you fold 
the paper, you can read the document as a book.
When you create a document that you want to print as a brochure, use 
portrait orientation for the pages. Writer applies the brochure layout 
when you print the document.

To Print a Brochure
1. Choose File - Print.
2. In the Print dialog, click Properties.
3. In the properties dialog for your printer, set the paper orientation 
to landscape.


If your printer prints duplex, and because brochures always print in 
landscape mode, you should use the duplex - short edge setting in your 
printer setup dialog.


4. Return to Print dialog, and click the Page Layout tab page.
5. Select Brochure.
6. For a printer that automatically prints on both sides of a page, 
specify to include All pages.

7. Click OK.
If you print a document in portrait on a landscape page, two opposing 
sides in a brochure will be printed next to each other. If you have a 
printer with double-sided printing capability, you can create an entire 
brochure from your document without having to collate the pages later. 
If you have a printer that only has single-sided printing capability, 
you can achieve this effect by first printing the front pages with the 
Front sides / right pages /odd pages option marked, then re-inserting 
the entire paper stack in your printer and printing all the back pages 
with the Back pages / left pages / even pages option marked.


If LibreOffice prints the pages in the wrong order, open the Options tab 
page, select Print in reverse page order, and then print the document again.

Often solves strange problems.

or
F4, right-click the base to delete the registration.

This only delete the registration in LibreOffice. The .odb file with 
their data remains in the OS file system.

Maybe the function MID() is what you are looking for?

=MID(abcdefg;A2;A3-A2+1)

Menu/Help/LibreOffice help (F1) - Index tab - search term: MID.

MID
Returns a text string of a text. The parameters specify the starting 
position and the number of characters.

Syntax
MID(Text; Start; Number)
Text is the text containing the characters to extract.
Start is the position of the first character in the text to extract.
Number specifies the number of characters in the part of the text.
Example
=MID(office;2;2) returns ff.

text. Then clicking the Default Paragraph style will change to your
desired font.
   The key to what is happening is the type of style being applied:

the text. Paste special (Control+Shift+V). Select Unformatted text. All
the text will be pasted with your default font.

I'm new to Libre Office but I read how you can create your own default
font style and size so a blank document will open to that default
style and size.

I'm trying to set Libre Writer so that when I open a saved plain text
(.txt) file it opens to my created default style and size.

Right now it opens to Preformatted Text - Courier New 10 point.

I've visited Styles and Formatting and right clicked on Preformatted
Text and chosen Modify and changes the font to Bookman Old 12 point
and clicked Apply, then OK.

I then reopened Preformatted Text style and it indeed displays my
chosen font and size.

However, still when I open a saved plain text file it opens to
Preformatted Text but with Courier New 10 point - not the Bookman Old
12 point I chose and saved.

Would anyone know if you can open saved plain documents to a desired
font style and size or are you always stuck with Courier New 10 point
whenever you open a plain text file?

I know I can highlight all the text in the opened plain text file and
chosoe the Default style and it will change back to my desired font
and style but is there any way of ensuring any plain text files will
open to a desired font stye?

Menu/Insert/File set the style in use where the file text is inserted.

So creating a new writer file and inserting the file, must assign the 
default format.

Have you tried to overlap several charts with different types?. I think 
this is possible if you set for each, the background of the the graphics 
area, as 100% transparent. Even more, you can use the result of the 
cells below the chart as part of it.

Weirdly that's true: if you search for $ on its own, you can replace the
paragraph breaks with something else.  The problem is then only that
\t in the Replace with box is interpreted as text instead of a

solution.  (I spotted this part but didn't latch on to its significance.)


AH yes, that was the only thing that I did not write in my original
post. Sorry for that.


With Regular expressions ticked, first search for $ and replace with a
character or string that does not occur in your document - perhaps a
hash mark?  Then repeat the search (still with Regular expressions
ticked), this time searching for # and replacing with \t.


Of course I used this workaround.
But I wondered if I did something wrong, or missed some special trick to
replace $ with a tab in one run.

   sometimes, I've found several of these ~lock files  ;-(


I've only seen this issue when the file is not closed properly.
For example remove the memory stick with files opened.
A program crash.
Or maybe do not have rights to delete in that directory.

With Calc 3.5 and previous this problem didn't exist with the same file.

Have you intensive calculations?, Try modifying Menu/Tools/Cell 
contents/Autocalculate.

Is this in all cells or only cell with conditional formatting?
Are there large matrix formulas?

Thank you for commenting on the OP's initial problem, and not a Linux
Windows word flame-war that bears no relation to the subject line,
despite some valid suggestions being valid.


Verify you have not marked in the same tab the option:
Embed OpenDocument file.


How could I check this via the GUI? I recreated the last graph and made
sure there were no 'embeds' of any kind. Could non-standard fonts i.e.
not Arial, also play a part?

Further to this, issue it would seem that only the last created graph is
being exported( but this is NOT the last selected Tab)  as when I view
the exported PDF, only a single page shows, instead of approx 12.

Hi Hylton,
sure I have not explained with the required detail.

The option is in:
Menu/File/Export as PDF/[General] - General - Embed OpenDocument file.

If this option is enable the only chance is to export the complete document.

This option embed the ods document in the pdf file, and if you later 
open this pdf in LibreOffice the ods document is open. IMO a very 
interesting option to share a document, an accurate view plus an edit 
file option.


About other non related things with your question, you are right, IMHO 
people would be better answer what it is asked, and if they like to 
comment about other things start their own thread.

Too much blah blah blah, with few helping answers.

list. Then when I entered 20-7 I got 20 jul 2012. 14-7 gave me 14 jul 2012.
  It may be a new feature in that you have to format cells, rows,
or columns for the type of formatting you want in them.

I did some brutal experimenting and after hundreds of swearwords (the
damned crap freeze all the time) I actually found something. Have a
look at this descriptor:

 With SearchDescriptor
 .SearchByRow=False
 .SearchRegularExpression=True
 .SearchString=^[^.]$
 .SearchType=1 ' Search values.

First it didn't work as I expected, but it found another cell in
another column. That cell has a semi complicated formula with nested
IF's and in this case it returns F2+STYLE(Hide). F2 in this case is
an empty cell, so now I changed the formula in the cell I wanted to
find, by just replacing the two quotes () with F2, and now it finds
the cell!

So  is not good enough for making a cell empty, but I can reference
to a cell that actually is empty!

So what I need to do now, is to change all the formulas in one column,
and the search descriptor above will work, as it seems!


At least I'll try that.


Ok, I'd just better give up, I guess. LibreOffice seems to be way too
slow for the things I do (I am surprised that I seem to be the only
one who actually do something with spreadsheets, except simple tables
of a few rows and columns, doing close to nothing, more or less). Many
years ago I did similar things in Excel. It crashed now and then, but
it was fast, at least. Things that took maybe one second to execute in
Excel seems to take hours in LibreOffice these days. I don't know
exactly how long they take, since I can never wait for more than a
couple of minutes before I restart it. It's very frustrating, when
testing new stuff. Simple developing a spreadsheet (something that you
shouldn't do, obviously) takes days instead of minutes.

I am not sure where things go slow. My current spreadsheet isn't
particularly big. There are currently about 2000 rows in 5 columns
containing formulas and there is one column with about 3300 rows of
formulas. Not that complicated formulas, mostly nested IF's. One of
the 2000 row columns use a custom formula (written in LibreOffice
BASIC), not very complicated: It reads the values from two cells and
returns a string value depending on the input values. A few IF's,
that's all.
I also use conditional formatting in all of the cells, approximately
3300+6×2000=15300 cells. It's not like millions of cells or something.

What is likely the most time consuming part in this case? My own cell
formula in a couple of hundred cells? The conditional formatted cells?
All those longer formulas with nested IF's?

Anyway, back to the subject… The thing I wrote about that regular
expression above was not quite accurate. I am not sure what to think
any more, it all feels like a mess, kind of. It seems like cells
containing a number also is found with the search descriptor above. I
am not sure why this is considered a proper behaviour, but maybe it
is.

Well, I am not sure what more to say, feel quite confused, to say the least…

What are you other guys using a spreadsheet for? It seems like
whatever I try to do, it all turns out as an extremely slow confusing
mess.

that 1 cell has a formula, you need to check only this cell on a value

I don't know, will do some tests later, but it certainly feels
confusing at the moment, because when I use the Search/Replace
dialogue, it doesn't work like that at all. Selecting ”Values” in the
dialogue give me the result I want, it finds the first cell with an
empty value (in this case a cell with a formula that returns that
empty value – ). So one question that comes to my mind is why the
LibreOffice Basic Search doesn't work the same way as the dialogue.
Maybe it's just fun to confuse the users…

As I said, I will do some more tests and come back here later.

In a related (I think) question, what formula could be used to identify
the last row in a spreadsheet with data in it?   It's a similar
situation as the OP, in which new data is inserted as a new row at the
bottom of the sheet.   I want another worksheet to be able to pick up
certain fields from the last row of data, but haven't been able to
figure out how to locate which row is last (with data).

A1=a
A2=b
A3=c
A4=d

What I'm looking for is a formula that would tell me, in the above data,
that row 4 is the last one with data.

I know that this is not what you asked for exactly, but coupled with
CELL() or COUNTBLANK() function, might allow you to establish the row
number in your situation.

The following allows me to get the last value of the column (F) in
sheet1 (used in my case in a summary table that lists the final value in
a column that lists the running balance of my bank account)...

=OFFSET($'sheet1'.$F$6,COUNTA($'sheet1'.$F$6:$'sheet1'.$F$9633)-1,0)

Assumes the range $F$6: to $F$9633 has continuous data - essentially it
returns the number of rows/cells with data, so will not work if your
array or range has blanks (unless the number is static or can be
predicted).

So in your example... COUNTA(A1:A1000) will return 4, knowing that you
start from A1 allows you to extrapolate that the last row is A4.



=SUMPRODUCT(MAX(NOT(iSBLANK(c11:c999))*ROW(c11:c999)))

give the number of the last row with data in the range.

A workaround:

Define one row as repeating heading in:

Menu/Table/Table properties - Text flow - Repeat heading.

Set the first row without borders and 0 as height.

Set the top border in the second row.

software, to avoid another software. Libreoffice almost does it right. It
just takes the visible width of the column as the width to export and not
the max. characters in a column.

When I adapt the column width manually to the minium which still allows to
see all characters Libreoffice exports correctly!!

So I would just need to find a way to avoid this little visible space on the
left of the cell. Excel adapts the columns correctly and doesn't add space
to the left, but minimizes the column to exactly the width necessary to show
all characters, but then Excel doesn't allow to export fixed field csv
files.

When saving as CSV there is an option to edit filter settings, one is 
fixed column with. (Click the option and follow saving).


In the help.

Fixed column width:
Exports all data fields with a fixed width.
The width of a data field in the exported text file is set to the 
current width of the corresponding column.

Values are exported in the format as currently seen in the cell.
If a value is longer than the fixed column width, it will be exported as 
a ### string.
If a text string is longer than the fixed column width, it will be 
truncated at the end.
The alignment Left, Centered, and Right will be simulated by inserted 
blanks.

Computers store numbers in a fixed-length format - however-many bytes.
So there are always the same number of binary digits stored - which

store the number in memory, as result fourteen significant numbers.

Maybe the mistake is in search for 0.000, it can't be found, because a 
0.000 is always saved as 0, nonsignificant zeroes to the right/left of 
decimal point are never saved.

(And, yes, there are the bad aspects, too. They need improvement, of course.)

For many users seem easier to ask in the net than read the built-in 
help, when often the answers are there, even with samples.


And in this program like in others, IMHO, the first is at least a quick 
read of the built-in help to get a panoramic view, so you can have a 
basic acknowledgement over can be done and how.


But the sign of these times is that everyone wants things done for 
yesterday for free and effortless.

What is a PocketMod booklet ?
What are the page dimensions?

Are you asking about a package/extension that will print out multiple
sheets that have two pages on each side of a duplexed sheet of paper,
and printing the document where the pages will have the proper placement
if you printed out the document, staples it, and fold it over?

How many pages or page faces are you printing? 10, 20, 30?

I just printed a 34 page document to the CUPs-PDF driver [instead of
export to PDF]. I checked the brochure option and it printed out the
pages in the proper order for printing a stack and folding it after you
place a staple in it.

It seemed to print out the pages in the correct order.

SO, if you want 4 face pages per sheet, 2 pages per side of the sheet,
then you the brochure option in Page Layout. It works for me.








Did you try with Menu/File/Print/Print layout [tab] - brochure?.

It is actually very popular with people who are using an analog form of
the GTD(Getting Things Done) method. And if you are into DIY publishing,
they are rather nifty.


As I stated earlier, the printing half of the pages at a time, is the
only easy way to do what you need without some type of external
package or extension.

Thank you. I realize that I could do exactly what I want if I used desk
top publishing software. But it seems so close to being possible in
LibreOffice, I thought I would ask.

Since the PocketMod layout seems to be a specific Patent Pending style
of booklet.  The possible rarity of that format and the Patent
Pending issue might make it very hard to support the decision to create
an extension or external package filter.

It's hard to imagine that it will be possible to patent a way of folding
a piece of paper into a booklet.

I can hardly see any difference between A and B. The embedded HSQLDB
behaves exactly like an external DB. When you open the embedded
database document you actually _install_ an external HSQLDB and connect
the office suite to that _external_ database in cached mode (single user
on local machine) until you close the database document which
re-packages the external database.
IMHO, nobody needs to know anything about macro programming in order to
build useful database applications with Base. The vast majority of Base
macros are due to bad database design, save one or two clicks or they
are made to impress the boss.
There are plenty of macros for generic tasks. All the most desperately
wanted macros have been written already (clone records, refresh this and
that, open forms and reports, open text as hyperlink).
What I would describe as Base light is the ability to use
spreadsheets, csv files, dBase files, LDAP and popular mail client
address books as read-only data sources for office documents, mostly
mail merge.
This is the most important feature and the concept is superior to MS
Office if there is a computer knowledgable administrator able to work
with templates, spreadsheets, plain text and some SQL in a creative
manner. For the end user who writes a serial letter the type of data
source makes no difference at all. It is always used in the same
(slightly clumsy) way, no matter if the addresses come from Oracle
server or plain text file.


The Light-LibO-Base will fail because it is like a car without a gear
box: you can open it and start it but not use it as intended

Øthe installing procedure of Lib-O causes problems because of unclear
instructions

Øthe LibO-Base module as a program is half done;even basic features does
not work


Base is not a stand-alone program and all the _basic_ features do work
well. The database backend is a mature database program, most of the
rest belongs to the Writer component.
There is just too much dysfunctional junk on top of the basic database
functionality which does not add any additional functionality.
Everything that the wizards are supposed to do can be done without the
wizard.
Today's users are do not accept any _basic_ features in a highly
sophisticated office suite, no matter how well the basic features use to
work. Instead they complain about the dysfunctional rubbish.



Øthere is no documentation explicit for LibO-Base -- and will
obviouslynot be;


There is excellent documentation for OOo Base which is identical to LibO
Base. Main problem with documentation is that today's computer users
overestimate their skills and do not understand the difference between
end user applications and development tools. This type of office suite
suggest that each component should be as easy to use as the text processor.



Users have to rely on OpenO documentation why there is no logical reason
to install LibO (ordinary new users does not know about any differences
between LibO and OO -- and do not know why to seek)

Øthe LibreOffice Help is a disaster -- a user new to LibO does not get
any (direct) help


LibO documentation on Base is plain wrong and misleading. Simply point
to the existing OOo docs or copy and paste that stuff.



Øthe embedded HSQLv1.8 is out-of-date and causes frustration and waste
of time because the lack of easy to get and sufficient support


There are not many users who suffer from the limited capabilities of
HSQL1.8. A high risk of total data loss is the main reason why one must
not use the embedded database. Getting an embedded database out of the
jail is easy enough.


Øthe reports is a important part of the data output; there is no Report
Builder explicit for LibO-Base or one that works properly


Calc is a very good sorrogate for a report engine even if you are not
very familiar with spreadsheets. It supports

not sure if it will help but you might try writing a doc and checking
the .libreoffice directory to see how it changes (config files, backup,
etc). Did you check the settings in the Tools/Options section?

I'm using slackware 13.37 without the kde lib's and it flies. I have the
qt lib installed but nothing kde. I'm using the xfe GUI.

Somebody said that it's an expected (and maybe even wanted?) behaviour, but
I just can't understand it.

I wish I could do the coding needed, but unfortunately I'm not skilled
enough.

I think that with a small improvement LibreOffice could be a lot better tool
without too complicated things (like Excels UI + VB)

I hope somebody, who could do something about this, finds this interesting
and needed. :)

A workaround is INDIRECT() function to avoid that cut/paste change the 
references:


C1: =INDIRECT(A2)+INDIRECT(B1)

other options can be used like OFFSET() or INDEX(), and I don't know 
how, maybe is easy to disable the cut option.


To avoid delete/insert rows/columns use an array formula:

An array formula in A1 like = {IV1:IV100} doesn't let delete/insert rows 
in the range of the array formula, the same for columns with a column array.

When data, that is used in a formula is changed, removed, the result of
the formula will change, not the formula.


Example:

A1: 1 B1: 2 C1: =A1+B1 (result: 3)

Now you protect cells C1 and C2. Now this is an important spreadsheet to
customer and their employees fill the data to cells A1, A2, B1, B2. And it's
of course important that the calculations are correct.

Now the customer enters data to A1 which was supposed to go to A2. He/She
cuts the data from A1 and pastes the data to cell A2.

This is the result:
(he/she wanted to enter 1 to A2, but entered it to A1 and then cut + pasted
it to A2. Then he/she entered number 2 to A1)

A1: 2   B1: 2   C1: =A2+B1 (result: 3)
A2: 1   B2: 1   C2: =A2+B2 (result: 2)

So the formula in C1 is now A2+B1 which is different than A1+B1 so it
changed. And since the cell is protected, you can't change it back to
correct one unless you cut + paste again. But if the formulas are also
hidden, then it's totally impossible to fix it anymore.

I've heard some comments like This is expected and wanted behaviour in all
spreadsheet applications., but then I would like to ask what's the point of
protection when you can't protect the formulas from even the simpliest user
errors? I know that this happens in Excel too, but there you are able to
prevent user from using cut+paste (and if googled, you'll notice that people
use this quite much just for this reeason).

If this is a wanted behaviour, it should atleast give a warning to the user.
Are you sure you want to cut + paste data? It will modify protected
formulas and you won't be able to fix those anymore and you will get wrong
results afterwards? So are you sure? :-)

A workaround is INDIRECT() function to avoid the cut/paste:

C1: =INDIRECT(A2)+INDIRECT(B1)

This need edit C1 to change the reference to cells, because as you can 
see the references are texts and don't change with cut/paste A2 and B1.

Well, it is not really my choice. I do have mixed environments, at work
it is MS-office and some LO. At home it is LO only. Since the work
environment has a higer priority any documents which are related to work
have to be .doc or .docx.

But: In this case it looks like an .odt bug too, the page break gets
saved even after it was deleted, I saw it in the source of the document.
I just have to extract it to make a usable bug report. It simply does
not show up if you repoen the .odt document.

I can't reproduce it in LibreOffice 3.5.2RC2 Win7x64.
Maybe something in default template or in the user profile.

Are you sure it isn't working as designed?

Maybe you are interested in get the next position in your specific case, 
but for others is good from the beginning.

I can confirm it crashes on my iMac (OS Lion 7.3) too when I try to save it
as docx.
Normally, I have no problem saving as docx in 3.5.1, so I suppose something
sticky in your template. probably easier to make a new template than to
find out why the old one crashes, but it shouldn't happen, should it?

Thanks, but I'm afraid this doesnt do what I need. Your example doesnt use
labels, just a named range. Maybe a lot of users isnt aware of this
function? Here is a short description how label's work.

Define the label range:
Mark range A1:B1
Menu/Insert/Names/Labels:
(make sure radiobutton contains column labels is selected)
Accept the current range by pushing Add, then OK

Set these cells:
A1:=colA,B1=colB *(note these cells contain pure text)*
A2:=1,B2:=0.1,C2:==colA
A3:=10,B3=0.01,C3:==colB *(note the = in front of the label name of C2 and
C3)*
C2 will now show the value 1 and C3 will show 0.01

*I need to be able to point the labels to the column above:*
C2 should show colA (or #REF! if it's out of range)  and C3 should show
0.1 (the row above)
..and I would like this to be possible with the suggested enhancement.

When I take a text from Internet (a manual,a user guide, etc.) I like to get it 
nicely formatted before reading it (yes, I am quite *pernickety)*, so I usually 
maka these settings(I will translate the italian menu options, so they may not

Format -  Paragraph -  Paragraph tab  - First line= 
0,5 cm
After 
paragraph = 0.2 cm

 Alignment tab -:  Justified

Often the  end of paragraph is marked only by char. 0x0A (LF), instead of the 
pair 0x0D0A (CR-LF); this makes also the last paragraph line to get right 
justified, even when it is only made by two words, that are placed one leftside 
and the other rightside.

With the previous versions I fixed these last lines while reading the text, but 
the LO 3.5, with texts of 10 - 15 pages takes a huge time to accomplish these 
steps

1. get the End key;
2. jump to EOL;
3. get the ENTER key;
4. left alignment;
5. skip to new line - CR-LF;
6. get the Del key;
7. deletion of the old mew line - LF.

I think steps 5 and 7 make the full following text to be managed - even if out 
of screen, since as nearer ve are to the EOT, as shorter are times.

I uninstalled the standard edition and installed *the Suse/Intel version* to 
try it. *Result: IT WORKS FINE!!!*

(Or perhaps: a tab delimited file with text in columns.  Or maybe:  a text file,

level of drama my original specification elicited ...)


The macros could automatically detect how many rows and columns there
are, shouldn't be too difficult. I'd give it a try if I had some time
left. Sorry that I don't at the moment.


If you have time at some point, could you point me at the functions you would
think of first to do this?  I tried to record a macro but all I got was an empty
Main function.

Menu/Format/Page/Sheet - Scaling mode, Reduce/enlarge printout
selected.

and report back the same stats from the SimplyPowerball webpage.

The first task is getting the GMO column working.  In order to do that,
I need to understand how to lookup data in an array, report the row, and
then to subtract a constant.
Since the last draw is in row 2, I think I need to subtract 1.  Yet I
digress.


From sheet 'Pre-2008 WB' I'm trying to figure out how to scan array

'20120208'.B3:'20120208'.F1491 row-by-row, and find the first row with a
number that I'm looking for (which is in 'Pre-2008' in column A, which
contains the sequential list of white balls 1 thru 55).

I keep getting an error 502... which doesn't tell me what part of my
function is invalid.
I have tried LOOKUP function, MATCH function, and currently I am trying
the HLOOKUP function.
The current cell has the formula
[=HLOOKUP(N(A2),'20120208'.B3:'20120208'.F1491,0)] .
A2 contains the number 1, so I'm attempting to just find that a 1 has
ever been drawn at the moment.
Ideally, the formula should contain a ROW function (I think), and
subtract 2...
to show me before 2/8, when was a 1 drawn as a whiteball.

I have thrown a copy of my current spreadsheet onto the web on my
GoogleDoc account. the file link is http://bit.ly/wjJtXu .
I will continue to fiddle with the formula, but if someone would be so
kind as to teach me a little about how to find the row of the last time
that a number was drawn... I would be grateful... because the error from
Libre office doesn't really point me in a direction to fix the error. :)

That is part of the problem.  That says within the WB1 column, that
there is a match on the 122 row, but the actual row is 123... so MATCH
gives a row relative to the top of the vector.  That is even better than
I was hoping for (I was thinking that I'd have to subtract a scalar
because the matrix started in Row 2 (or 3, since I'm trying to create
the stats before the draw on 2/8).
So, I dupe the MATCH function for each WB column, and can I then use MIN
to find the first occurrence...

Something like
=MIN( MATCH(N(A2),'20120208'!B$2:B$1491,0),
MATCH(N(A2),'20120208'!C$2:C$1491,0),

This is how is view in google docs,

To enter in LibreOffice, intruduce the formula:
=MIN(IF('20120208'.B$2:H$1490=$A2;ROW('20120208'.B$2:H$1490);99))
and finish with Crtl+Shift+Enter

Take care of sheet separator, if you use Libo or google docs.

Now is possible in LibreOffice 3.5RC3, more than 10 conditions I don't 
know the limit.


But also it is possible in other version using the STYLE() function 
inside the formula condition of conditional format.


First define the styles needed.
In this sample Background _1, Background_2 ... Background_10
with the different background colors.
In the Conditional Formatting select Formula is =
and the formula:
STYLE(Background_A1)
A1 is supposed to have the value to select the appropriated style.

Hi Tom

The page lists the downloads for the data drivers needed to connect to
an Access database - from anything other then Access, Base included, on
a Windows OS.

They don't ship with Windows and therefore the user needs to go get
them.

Once installed the questioner should be able to connect following the
instructions in the help file.

If I not in a mistake, the problem is derivated because is a regressión 
in 3.4 version and the SDBC drivers to connect with diferent MS access 
version, weren't shipped with LibreOffice 3.4. I reported a bug about 
this regression.


This is solved in 3.5, which in other side seems to will be a very good 
version.

Can you post the file on nabble? A brief check indicates that *.lwp
files should open in LO/OOo.

other types of documents. However, under the new features of 3.3 IS the
ability to read Lotus WordPro documents. So I downloaded the provided
sample. LibreOffice read that sample fine, but still won't read true LWP
documents. I used 3.3 and downloaded and installed 3.4.5

The last version don't read Lotus files.

Once you have registered in Base as spredsheet, you can do the 
modifications directly in the spreadsheet without using base.

Only the registration in base is needed.

If I understood your request, one solution is in cell D7:

=COUNTIF($B$3:C7;B7)+COUNTIF(D$3:$V6;B7)

and copy from this the cell to others without changes.

Those Release Notes don't say anything about the changes since the previous

As I know, LibreOffice in Windows it's compiled only for 32-bits.
Only 32-bit JRE works in LibreOffice for windows.

I had used OLE linking succesfully to insert other spreadsheets into writer
and they work fine (but doesn't OLE obsolete DDE?).

When I've selected the chart and paste special there is no DDE link option.

special does then have a DDE option, but it just pastes a link to the empty
cell and doesn't include the chart.

I wonder if using DDE linking to link the actual cells into writer,

to hide the actual cells in writer. Is there a method to do this?

- Menu/Insert/Ole Object - Create from file, mark Link to file.
  Select the file.

To update:
- Menu/Edit/Link - update.

Or another way:
- Menu/Insert/Ole Object - Create new.
- Open the new object (double click), and paste the area from the 
spreadsheet including the data and the graph.

- Paste.
- Copy the data in original spreadsheet.
- Paste special - link.

The graph is from inserted object.
The data are linked to the original spreadsheet.

A very good option is use an array.

In Sheet2.a1   =Sheet1.a1:a15 and use Mays+Crtl+Enter to get an array.

If you insert a row in for example Sheet1.a8 then the array in Sheet2 is 
expanded to retain the same size, even better if you have formulae in 
the array rows in Sheet2, they are also copied in the new row.


To edit an array you must select the array not a cell in the array, use 
Ctrl+/ for this.

I don't know if it's possible to fix multiple sheets at one time, but
for individual sheets follow this procedure:

o Keyboard Ctrl + A to select/highlight all cells on the sheet.
o Right click anywhere in the highlighted area and select Format Cells
o In the dialog select the Borders tab and make the adjustment.

With F11, select Default format, and change there the border.
If there is another style non vinculated with default, change it also.

Depends on the situation, but I found that entering = into a cell
causes different results from 3.3.4 vs 3.4.4.
So why do that? you might ask. Well, the formulas in a column looks
something like 
=IF(SomeCase;;IF(AnotherCase;SomeResult;SomeResult+TheCellAbove)),
so here and there, there will be cells that are equal to =, and in
some cases those cells will be used for calculation with the same
formula.

Seems like the developers decided that it shouldn't be possible to use
empty cells for calculation, and I just can't help myself wondering
why. This is a very common task in my case, and if an empty cell is
not defined as 0, it will mean that most of my formulas will be very
much longer and way more complicated than they need to be with 3.3.
That is, more complicated, harder to edit and very much slower. Is
this really the best way to go? Why is handling an empty cell as 0 in
calculations such a bad idea? Am I stuck with 3.3 like forever ow or
is this going to change any time soon?

In 3.4 only text which can be explicitly interpreted as number, is 
treated as number, and an space or an empty string is not a number.

You can use the N(e9) to avoid this.

I think this avoid misleading with text as numbers.

 I have been trying to get LO 3.4.4, 3.4.3 or 3.3.4 to install on Windows
 7 SP 1 for the past day or so. I have downloaded all the mentioned
 version with the help files and checked their MD5 sums (all are good). I
 have attempted to install with and without Admin privileges and still
 each version dies at trying to start the Report Builder.

 Between each install I use the Windows uninstaller to wipe out each
 version before I attempt to re-install a different version.

 Is this a bug or just something in Win 7 sp1 that refuses to let me run
 software I want?

As I can see, the problem is only with portable version, may be
