[libreoffice-users] Question about charts

2024-03-20 Thread Enzo Hirosse
Hello! I was using LibreOffice Writer and got stuck in a problem while
using the charts, I don't understand how the percentage works when
determining the values of the columns, everytime I set a value it displays
a 100%, despite the total value of the Y axis, just like in the example
below. Is there a way to change these percentages? so it shows the actual
percentage comparing the value (ex. 9) to the total of the whole chart
(ex.10)

I don't have Windows, and I never will, but exactly how do you open your
documents?
If you just click open and then navigate to the file and open it, it should
just open it.
If you click the ▼ symbol next to the open button and select it from there,
you are probably selecting the wrong file. I don't know what's the best way
to fix that, but here's what I would do:
Click the ▼ symbol next to the Open icon, then click Clear List (since the
stuff in the list are useless anyway), or if you prefer working with menus,
File → Recent Documents → Clear List.
Now open the document you want to work with, either by double clicking it
in your file manager (do they still call it ”explorer”?) or just File →
Open and then navigate to your document, or by clicking the Open icon and
then navigate to your file.
Next time you open LibreOffice, that file should be in your Recent
Documents list and you should be able to open it from there.
So basically you need to build your list of documents from scratch.

Or, if you really don't want to clear your list, you can search and replace
the old path with the new one in your registrymodifications.xcu file. On my
system it's at ~/.config/libreoffice/4/user/registrymodifications.xcu, but
I don't have a clue where Windows stores it. You could probably just search
for the file name in your file manager.

Anyway, inside that file, search for:

There's one line like that for each instance in your documents list.
Note that spaces in file names are represented with %20.
In your case I would try to do a ”search and replace all” like this:
Search for: C:\Users\Bruce's%20Lenovo5\OneDrive\
Replace with: Bruce%20-%20Personal\

If nothing is found, double check the line after the ” Thanks,

[libreoffice-users] Question about document paths

2023-08-02 Thread Brooks, Bruce
I have recently purchased a new computer with the latest and greatest
Windows 11 operating system. My old computer ran windows 11 and the
LibreOffice path was C:\Users\Bruce's
Lenovo5\OneDrive\Documents\Joanne\Goals for reading the bible.odt does
not exist. The directory that it points to is basically up through
C:\Users\Bruce's Lenovo5\OneDrive\Documents.

With the new system it is "Bruce - Personal\Documents". All my files and
folders are there but; LibreOffice can't find them. When I double click
the file in folders it will open in LibreOffice and will save back
correctly. The next time the file can't be found.

How do I fix this? I tried to do the file path edit but that didn't seem
to work.

Thanks,
Bruce Brooks

[libreoffice-users] Question on better way for forumula with ods that auto imports csv file.

2023-07-22 Thread Michael D. Setzer II
Have a spreadsheet that imports data from a csv file into columns
A, B, C.
Have various formulas in D thru J. Originally had it reference to
cell using column with number. This worked, but found if would
open sheet again with more lines in A,B, and C. That the last
formulas would have the row number offset by the lines added in
import. Only way I found to get it to always work is using the
indirect option? Otherwise the copy of formulas would have
incorrect rows.

=IF(AND(INDIRECT("B"())>10,INDIRECT("B"()-1)>0
),INDIRECT("A"())-INDIRECT("A"()-1),0)

[libreoffice-users] Question RTF Contentcontrol in Writer

2023-03-31 Thread susanne.mohn-lo
Hallo ,

I am looking for the Rich Text content control in LibreOffice Writer Version
7.5.1.2. (Windows 11)

I have two questions:

[1] Propertiess of the content control:

Title: it appears above the control.

Tag: How can I use the tag?

[2] It has the property nested and can therefore accommodate objects such as
tables, graphics or other content controls.

If I insert a table or image into an rtf content control, it is replaced and
no longer exists.

Is this intended behaviour?

Greetings

Susanne

Or it could be that the file system caches data and it hasn't been

I thought I'd try to find out a bit more about 'sensible-lomua' which is what
exists by default in my Tools / Options / Internet / Email.  I guessed that the
lomua was Libreoffice mail user agent and apparently that has been inherited
from OpenOffice where it was 'sensible-oomua'.

There was a bug opened in 2011 by someone who had a similar problem:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/841184

Their solution was simply to replace 'sensible-lomua' with 'thunderbird'
(without the quotes and without any path).

LO doesn't actually call /usr/bin/WSENDTO with the document's pathname
as an argument (as one might expect). What rather happens, for better
or worse (see CmdMailSuppl::sendSimpleMailMessage at
),
is that LO calls its senddoc helper script (see
)
with lots of arguments, among them `--mailclient` `/usr/bin/WSENDTO`.

And that senddoc script then tries to guess from the given mail client's
basename what program that is, and knows how to pass it along all the
other arguments, potentially specifying the mail's to, cc, body,
attachment, etc. But that senddoc script doesn't know anything about a
mail client with basename WSENDTO, so gives up and tries something like
xdg-email instead, but which apparently doesn't lead to any success with
your setup, either.

Thanks for the reply. I have LibreOffice 7.2.7.2 version as
loaded by default for my Fedora 35 and also have
LibreOffice 7.3.4.2 downloaded from libreoffice.

With both I have tried a simple saved file with the word
test in it. File is saved. Have Tools / Options / Internet /
Email set to /usr/bin/WSENDTO (Thou I did also try using
the direct path to program as well.).

/usr/bin/WSENDTO has this.
#!/bin/bash
echo $0 $1 $2 $3
/home/msetzerii/.wine/drive_c/PMAIL/Programs/WSENDT
O.EXE $1

Strange thing is that absolutely nothing happens. No box
opens, and nothing in way of a error message is showing
up.. But with my simple macro - running it opens the
email client and has the document attached with no
problem...

Simple Macro
Sub Mailto
Dim oDoc As Object
Dim Path$
oDoc = ThisComponent
Path$ = oDoc.getURL()
If oDoc.HasLocation() Then
shell("/home/msetzerii/.wine/drive_c/PMAIL/Programs/W
SENDTO.EXE " (Path$,8,100) )
Else
Print "The document has not yet been stored"
End If
End Sub

Tools / Marco / Run and selecting it opens the email client

Could there be a problem with your installation of LO?

I'm using LO Writer 6.4.7.2 on UbuntuStudio 20.04 and the Send to email works
fine. Clicking the File > 'Send to email' opens a write window in my
Thunderbird mail client with the document already attached.

[libreoffice-users] Question about Saving XLSX files in Calc 7.2.4 and 'extra rows'

2021-12-19 Thread Tom
Hi!  I recently edited an Excel spreadsheet in LibreOffice Calc 7.2.4.1
on Windows 10 and after saving the updated XLSX file, I imported it into
Office 365 Excel online (the free version available if you have a
Hotmail account) and noticed the "print friendly" PDF version reported
having 188 pages!  When I view the same spreadsheet in Calc and use the
print preview function, everything fits on one page.

So, I'm not sure if Calc is saving the XLSX file in a "funky" way or if
Office 365 Excel online (free version) is "confused".  :) lol   I added
some rows to the main sheet, updated some footer text, removed some
rows, from the main sheet, and turned off some borders in the last row
of the sheet.  I can't imagine any of that would cause the weird
behavior I'm seeing in Excel 365 online.

Has anyone else seen this kind of behavior?

Thanks in advance!

Peace...

[libreoffice-users] question about generating documents live on server

2021-11-14 Thread Marcin Giedz
Hi there,

in our framework (mainly C++/python based) we use html + xml + xstl to
generate pdf files - different types like agreements, appendices, etc. It's
quite painful when it comes to any change in such a document specially when
a template is sent in doc/odt files.

I was wondering if there is a chance to use libreoffice solution and fill
such documents online on the server and converting them to pdf files? I
understand odt is actually zip archive and we can unzip it, replace
content.xml with proper data and zip it back. But perhaps there are other
methods/solutions we can use to process odt files more natively ?

Many thx
Marcin

[libreoffice-users] Question about Calc and Data Validity

2021-11-09 Thread Tom
Hi!  So, I need to create a spreadsheet with a column of drop-down
values.  I found how to do that using the "Data > Validity" menu
option.  I created a drop-down menu column and it works fine.    Of
course, I need to export this as an Excel file and I found Excel handles
drop-down menus differently.  *sigh*

So, I was able to define the drop-down menu in Calc using the Excel
approach and it works fine (albeit ugly).

My question: has anyone had any experience with exporting spreadsheets
with drop-down menus in a column to Excel format? Did it work?  Was it
problematic?

Thanks in advance!

Peace...

Re: [libreoffice-users] Question on INDIRECT()

2021-10-23 Thread Steve Edmonds

Hi Rob, did you ever get this answered.
You could use something like the below for the cells with a '+' in them.
Assuming below is row 4, vertical bars are cell borders.
|25+15|=VALUE(LEFT(A4,FIND("+",A4)-1))+VALUE(RIGHT(A4,LEN(A4)-FIND("+",A4)))|

If you need it to be generic for with/without the + then you could use
an IF to check, shown below for row 5.

=IF(ISNUMBER(A5),A5,VALUE(LEFT(A5,FIND("+",A5)-1))+VALUE(RIGHT(A5,LEN(A5)-FIND("+",A5

Sorry for that.
I'll see if I can find it and send it again, but to the group this time.
I use Gmail's web interface and I always forget that I need to ”Reply to
all” for the group to get it. For almost all the other mailing lists I'm
subscribed to, just hitting ”Reply” does the job, so that's what I'm used
to. That's why this happens so often. Not saying that this or that is right
or wrong, just explaining why this fails so often for me… :)

Again, sorry for all that. I'll try to get a little better at this…

Kind regards

First solution: don't enter your data like that in the first place.

I don't think there is any simple method to do what you ask in a
general fashion. If, as you suggest, the operator is always "+", you could use

=IF(ISNUMBER(A1);A1;LEFT(A1;FIND("+";A1)-1)+MID(A1;FIND("+";A1)+1;99))
You could make this simpler if you knew that the numbers in the
expressions were always of two digits.

I trust this helps.

Plus not 100% compatible with Excel. Excel VBA not likely to run in Calc.

2016?  I believe the document was last edited in MS Word 2016 before it
was sent to me.

What I did was install the free Word viewer.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/p/doc-viewer/9n69kfjds28z#activetab=pivot:overviewtab

Apparently, it's now called Doc Viewer.  I'm not sure how it compares
with the Word viewer.

[libreoffice-users] Question about testing changes made to MS Word documents

2021-09-13 Thread Tom Williams
How-dee!   I have a question about testing changes made to MS Word
documents.   Someone sent me a Word DOCX file that needed to be updated
and I managed to update it in LibreOffice Writer 7.1.5.2 on Ubuntu 21.04
Linux.  I wanted to test the saved file by loading it in MS Word.  Since
I don't have access to MS Office, I uploaded it to Word online using my
Hotmail account.  The document loaded but when I went to print it, the
generated PDF was pretty much trashed.

So, what's a good/reliable way to test changes saved in DOCX format in
Writer?   Is using Word online, as I did, akin to loading it in MS Word
2016?  I believe the document was last edited in MS Word 2016 before it
was sent to me.

Thanks in advance!

Peace...

[libreoffice-users] Question on Command Line options for Writer??

2021-02-03 Thread Michael D. Setzer II
I've done things with Calc, and it has options to set how
the importing of csv files goes..

Was chatting with a person that was trying to convert odt
to pdf files via command line. That was actually simple.

libreoffice --headless --convert-to pdf filename.odt

Issue was that it uses the last options that was used from
program.

63229 Aug92019 lisarequest.odt(Original ODT File)
55911 Aug92019 lisarequest2.pdf (Exported from GUI)
124092 Feb3 01:46 lisarequest3.pdf (Exported from
Command Line but last time had set the option to create hybrid)
66932 Feb3 03:26 lisarequest.pdf(Changed option in GUI to
remove the check on hybrid, exited program, redid command line
option)

Have looked for a way to do this on command line, but everything
I've found seems to say you have to do it in the GUI settings??

With calc, I have a script that uses
libreoffice --infilter=CSV:59,34,76,1true$f.csv
That opens the csv file with the exact options I need.

Perhaps writer can do the same, but I've not found how??

Thanks.

Well, I found my answer.  I needed to use the "Tab Order" dialog window
to control the tab order of the form fields.    I found the information
here:

https://help.libreoffice.org/6.3/en-US/text/shared/02/01170300.html

Using the "Automatic Sort" function, I was able to effectively "reset"
my manual tab order.  Then, I was able to fine tune the tab order by
moving fields up or down.  The fields are identified by field name.

[libreoffice-users] Question on getting a list of all the macro commands

2020-11-30 Thread Michael D. Setzer II
Does a file with them exist in full or part.
Was recently looking thru menus and found something interesting that I
had not noticed before.
Data / Calculate / Formula to Value

I did a test, and it did what I wanted, so recorded the macro.
Strangely, the command to do the Formula to Value was there, but it had
rem in front of it, so macro would not work as recorded. Removed the
rem, and it worked fine?? So, this can duplicate the F9 Enter option for
some things.

sub xx12
rem --
rem define variables
dim document as object
dim dispatcher as object
rem --
rem get access to the document
document   = ThisComponent.CurrentController.Frame
dispatcher = createUnoService("com.sun.star.frame.DispatchHelper")

rem --
rem --
dim args1(0) as new com.sun.star.beans.PropertyValue
args1(0).Name = "StringName"
args1(0).Value = "=sum(k2:k57)"
dispatcher.executeDispatch(document, ".uno:EnterString", "", 0, args1())
dispatcher.executeDispatch(document, ".uno:ConvertFormulaToValue", "", 0,
Array())
end sub

My main macro in this sheet takes a set of data from a web site. that is placed
in a2:o64.
Only need data in a2:d64 and the total of data in K2;K57. So, macro delete
columns E to O.
But need to save total of K2:K57. Had been entering formula manually, and using
F9 to convert it.
Just need to put this code in main macro to automate how process to the macro I
have linked to
Shift-F4. Updates covid data from 50 states, D.C., and 5 Territories.. So, run
it as data changes.
Perhaps there are lots of other such processes outthere.
Still find it strange that the recorder recorded it, but did it as a remark??

Thanks again..

Re: [libreoffice-users] Question on getting a list of all the macro commands

2020-11-29 Thread Jean-Francois Nifenecker

Hello Mike,

nope. Well, not that I know of. The LibO API (application programming
interface) is a quite complex beast.

Was recently looking thru menus and found something interesting that I
had not noticed before.
Data / Calculate / Formula to Value

I did a test, and it did what I wanted, so recorded the macro.

The LibreOffice macro recorder is a *very* limited tool, which has
nothing to see with some other Office suite recorder. The LibO recorder
just records your actions in the GUI (keyboard and mouse actions) and
translates them using a special object, the Dispatcher.

The resulting code has very little to see with actual macro code you
might write to accomplish the very same actions in "purer" Basic.

This doesn't mean the recorder is useless. I use it everytime I need a
quickly automated process. But don't rely on it to manage (not so)
complex processes.

If you want to delve in Basic macro coding, as an English-speaking user
you should read Andrew Pitonyak's books. Check Andrew's website here:
https://www.pitonyak.org/oo.php.
His macro document is a collection of predefined macros, while his book
is more elaborated. Both are highly recommended reads!

For a quick start, you might also find the 9 reference sheets available
from the LibO extension pages handy:

Re: [libreoffice-users] Question on value comand and Err:502

2020-11-24 Thread Alan B
Haven't found documentation to confirm but I believe your first example
=value(1+1) is recognized as a formula, the formula is processed and the
result converted to a value.

It works for me if I enter =value(sum(1,1)) the cell displays 2 and
=CELL("type",), pointed at that cell, displays v

If I format a cell as text, enter a decimal digit, e.g. 2, and point
value() at that cell it returns the number 2.

If i point cell("type",) at the cell containing digits that are
formatted as text the result is "l" (lower case L).

If I point cell("type",) at the value() formula that points at the
text formatted digits it returns v.

So, I would say that value() converts a number formatted as text to a
value, converts a formula that results in a number to a value, but will not
recognize a formula written as a text string and convert the string to
produce the value.

You have to admit that your description and layout were pretty foggy!
Did anyone understand it?

So, here it is in simplest form
=value(1+1) converts the 1+1 to 2
But =value( ) fails with Err:502 if text "1+1" is used or if a cell
containing the text 1+1 is used??
I've looked thru command, and this seems to be the one to convert a
text string to a value?

It is. But the text string "1+1" is not a value expressed as text but
a numerical expression in text form. And VALUE() does not undertake
to evaluate such expressions.

Is there another command, ...;

What you need instead is the EVALUATE() function. (PS: It doesn't exist!)

I think the fact that VALUE(1+1) entered as part of a formula does
what it does is a lucky side effect. Clearly in this case LibreOffice
is doing something similar to the automatic editing that is done when
any material is entered into a spreadsheet cell. I'm talking about
this sort of thing: when you type "+02" (no quotes) into a cell
formatted as Number, you see just 2. The "1+1" in this case is being
entered into a cell (as part of a formula), not arising as the result
of some calculation.

I trust this helps.

So, here it is in simplest form
=value(1+1) converts the 1+1 to 2
But =value( ) fails with Err:502 if text1+1is used or if a cell
containing the text 1+1 is used??
I've looked thru command, and this seems to be the one to convert a
text string to a value?

It is. But the text string1+1is not a value expressed as text but
a numerical expression in text form. And VALUE() does not undertake

Is there another command, ...;

What you need instead is the EVALUATE() function. (PS: It doesn't exist!)

I think the fact that VALUE(1+1) entered as part of a formula does

As you mention, and as I found the evaluate command is what other
spreadsheets have that would seem to handle this, but libreoffice calc
doesn't??

Have just been playing with that GPS to Decimal problem, and was
trying to get a simplier process to do it.

Have made a number of macros, that can do it just fine, but they have
long formulas. Was looking to do it with a set of regex commands.
Commands did what I wanted, but can't get it to calculate the result..

Best I've gotten So Far.
Raw Data in column A
0315'090E
Have a Macro that puts formula in column
B=REGEX(REGEX(REGEX(REGEX(REGEX(INDIRECT(ADDRESS(ROW(),COLUMN()-1)),,+),',/60+ot;),CHAR(34),/3600),[EN],),[OSW],*(-1))
That creates the Forumula
03+15/60+090/3600
But value in macro fails if put around it, and using value on the cell, or even
a
cell, where the data is copied fails. So, it is not being seen as a formula.
Seems
Value only works on a string that only contains digits and nothing else?? And
as
you said. LibreOffice doesn't have evaluate as others do.So, macro does what I
want, but no way I've found to automatically get it to
convert to the value.
I can do the following steps to get the result I want.
After running the macro I can manually do the following:
F2,F9,CR,HOME,=,CR
That puts the cell in edit mode, then F9 calculates it to the text formula and
enter, the Home to go to the beginning, insert an = to convert it from a text
cell
to an actual format, and then enter to get the final result as digit values.

But again, LibreOffice doesn't have the keypress option to add that.
Other methods work fine, just was trying something different.
Just thought there would be some kind of command to do it..

Additionally, it probable is a flux that value(1+1) worked, probable does
calculation first, and then sees nothing to convert. When it see as string, it
probable checks for non-digits, and thus fails automatically..

Thought there might be something else. Not an issue that effects me, but
thought it would be interesting to figure out..

Have a nice day and be safe..

I trust this helps.

[libreoffice-users] Question on value comand and Err:502

2020-11-23 Thread Michael D. Setzer II
Put a more complex question, and got no responses yet.
So, here it is in simplest form
=value(1+1) converts the 1+1 to 2
But =value( ) fails with Err:502 is text "1+1" is used or i a cell
containing the text 1+1 is used??
I've looked thru command, and this seems to be the one to convert a text
string to a value? Is there another command, or am I doing something
wrong?

Contents of a simple spreadsheet

2 "=value(1+1)
Err:502 "=VALUE("1+1")
"1+1TRUE=ISTEXT(A3)
Err:502 "=value(a3)

So, I tried this in LibreOffice 7.0.1 on Windows 10 and found the
spreadsheet saved to a file size of 17kb.    This isn't a "problem" or
anything and I was mostly curious about the difference in file size.  :)

Hello Tom

A pleasure to have a librarian lol, well already the previous versions
of LibreOffice converted to Ms Office format are necessarily more
dancing in size as you have noticed, I will advise you to publish the
latest version of LibreOffice 7.0.1.2

then to come back to your question I don't have a screenshot but I send
you mine which also shows a document at the base ods of 33.6 kiB
converted to xlsx format of 26.9 kiB but when you look at the content

[libreoffice-users] Question about saving Excel 365 (.xlsx) files in LibreOffice Calc 6.4.6

2020-09-05 Thread Italo Vignoli
You can find the procedure to install LibreOffice on your Chromebook in
this article: https://linuxhint.com/install_linux_apps_chromebook/.

As an alternative, you can install LibreOffice using Flatpack, which is
described in this article: https://flatpak.org/setup/Chrome%20OS/.

I hope this helps. Best regards.

[libreoffice-users] question

2020-07-27 Thread fudmier
On my linux 16.04 box .. each time i perform any function that involves
switching between tabs, or between certain activities within the same A
tab my computer goes into Oh shit mode.. it disables my keyboard
activity, and the disk goes to spinning,, the background of the
spreadsheet goes into grey mode, and it sometimes takes two or three
minutes before the full control reappears and the background returns
back from greyed out to white again.

is this this has been going on since last November.. but it has reached
epidemic proportions .. and has rendered Libre office useless on my machine

Re: [libreoffice-users] Question about signed documents

2019-01-31 Thread Joshua Kramer
QWhat's interesting about this is you can use a a smartcard to sign your
documents. Libreoffice supports standard PIV smart cards (at least under
Linux). If you have everything configured right, you can use an x509 that
is resident on the smart card to sign the document. This can provide much
higher security, especially if the smart card is configured with a PIN.

Also keep in mind that the document is not "read only" with the signature.
It is completely possible to open a signed document, not realize it's
signed, accidentally insert a period somewhere, and resave it. As soon as
you modify a signed document the signature is dropped.

No, it doesn't generate a digital version of your signature.  It uses a
process, related to encryption, to generate a signature of the entire
document, that verifies it could have only come from you.  This is
commonly done with X.509 digital certificates, which are traceable back
to some top level certificate authority.  As an example of a bank
perhaps, they'd issue you your own public/private keys, which could be
traced back to the bank and to the top level authority beyond.  Since
that signature couldn't possibly have come from anyone else, it is your
signature.

You may want to read up on how public/private key encryption works and
X.509 certificates.

At least one bank I'm aware of allows digital signing of documents.  So,
you might download a form to open an account, take out a loan, etc. fill
it out and digitally sign it.

Also, think about the current practice of many lawyers and other
professionals, who still fax documents.  It would be far more secure
than any fax could be.  In fact, given how easy it is to edit scanned
images, spoof phone numbers, etc., there's no way fax can be considered
secure these days.  Yet, people still use them.

also failed. In casting about for a solution, I happened to reboot.

Then I recalled that inaccessible files are sometimes removed or made
accessible after a reboot. I retried installation, LO 6.0.6.2 installed
quickly along with off line help

My Question: Should I have known this might or would occur?  And could
this glitch have been predicted and users warned?

Re: [libreoffice-users] Question about tables and page margins in Writer

2018-08-12 Thread Remy Gauthier
Hi,

You could insert a 1-inch header that is empty. You can alter the page
style or directly format the page:

Format -> Page -> Header, then:

- Header ON
- Autofit height: OFF
- Height: 1 inch

Note that I am using LO 6.0, so it might be slightly different for you
but I think that those settings will work in your version.

I hope this helps.

[libreoffice-users] Question about tables and page margins in Writer

2018-08-12 Thread Tom
Hi!  I'm running Writer 5.1.6.2 on Linux Mint 18 and had a question
about tables and page margins.  I'm creating a playlist in Writer and
have an image filling the entire background of the page.  I have 0
margins so the image covers all available whitespace.  I have a table
with a header row that repeats on each page.  Everything looks fine
except when the table spills over to page #2.  The header row is
repeated but the top of the table is flush against the top of the page.
I would like a 1", maybe, gap between the top of the table, on page #2,
and the top of the page.

Any idea on how to accomplish this?

Thanks!

Peace...

I wrote a document based on a specific template.

Is there a way to automatically incorporate these new styles into the

o Open the document.
o Delete all its text (or as much of it as appropriate).
o Save the denuded document (but still containing its styles) as a
template - presumably over the existing one.

Alternatively, you can import styles from one document to another -
in this case from your existing document to a new document intended
to become your template - using the Load Styles facility, accessible
from the drop-down menu from the New Style from Selection button in
the Styles and Formatting window.

I trust this helps.

Yes. It is open source and you can alter it to your needs.

For more compactness, maybe you could create a maxifs() pointed to each
sheet then a maxifs() against those maxifs() results. I agree with Brian
on the point of keeping all data in one sheet if practical. With that
approach it's still possible to have separate tabs for each year for the
analysis and calculation.

A simple workaround is to assemble copies of the relevant ranges from
multiple sheets on a single summary sheet. (After all, the value you
are trying to derive definitely relates to the data generally, not to
any specific year.) Then the function reference is simple. Instead of

Or you could use one sheet instead of multiple, yearly sheets in the

Hi,

I use Libre Office regularly and for compatibility with my friends I save
documents in .docx format with a password.

I use Libre Office Version: 5.1.4.2

Do Libre Office protect password encrypted .docx documents with 128-bit key
AES protection when the .docx documents are made with Libre Office and not
with Microsoft Office ?

Thanks in advance for your answer.

Hi,

Debugging a "got stuck" situation is relatively easy: attach a debugger
to the stuck process, generate backtraces for all its threads, and
analyze from there.

RE: [libreoffice-users] question about "Binary URP bridge disposed during call" error

2016-03-04 Thread Shawn Cao
Hi Stephan,

I redo the batch testing and you are right: my program killed soffice.bin after
waiting 2 minutes and can't open
a file for printing through "m_xDesktop->loadComponentFromURL()". And the
function then throw a "Binary URP bridge disposed during call" exception. (And
no LibreOffice crash happen for my new printing program. )

This issue happened randomly and most of the time the same file can be opened
correctly.

Basically, the testing case is to start soffice.bin and print 10 files then
close it. The testing case will be repeated thousands time.
If I restart soffice.bin every time a printing job finished,
"loadComponentFromURL()" always return quickly.

I am wondering why "m_xDesktop->loadComponentFromURL()" sometimes get stuck and
how to generate debugging information when it get stuck?

Best Regards,

Shawn

Hm, that's rather odd.

For one, this crash is during "clean" termination of the soffice.bin process,
i.e., at a time when your external code should no longer communicate with the
soffice.bin process anyway. (Or is your external code designed in a way that
it might call com.sun.star.frame.XDesktop.terminate while some printing
activity is still in progress?)

For another, I see no way how
com::sun::star::ucb::UniversalContentBroker::create could throw an exception
there during shutdown. It should already have been called during
initialization, from Desktop::Main -> Desktop::RegisterServices
-> configureUcb, and if that had already failed with an exception, that
would have caused a call to FatalError, which immediately terminates the
process via _exit.

Are you sure that that crash dump correlates to a "Binary URP bridge disposed
during call" exception in your client, or could it be from a "harmless" crash
of an soffice.bin instance after your client code had already disconnected (so
might normally go rather unnoticed, except for leaving behind a crash dump)?

That exception typically indicates that LO's soffice.bin process

[libreoffice-users] question about "Binary URP bridge disposed during call" error

2016-02-18 Thread shawn
Hi everybody,

We utilize LibreOffice SDK 5.0 64 C++ to print documents with LibreOffice
5.1.0.3 . During batch testing, I print a odt file over and over again. The
problem is the program throw exception "Binary URP bridge disposed during
call" from time to time. This exception happens on *Windows 10* and doesn't
happen on Windows Server 2012 or Windows Server 2012 R2.

By the way, the exception also happens with other files, and it happens on
32-bit version too.

The basic printing code is:

m_xDocument = m_xDesktop->loadComponentFromURL(
   Url,

   OUString(
RTL_CONSTASCII_USTRINGPARAM("_blank") ),
   0,

loadProperties );

try{
Reference< XPrintable > xprintable( m_xDocument, UNO_QUERY);
xprintable->print( m_xPrintProperties );
WaitForPrintComplete();//xPrintable->getPrinter() and check printer
property
}
catch ( Exception& exception )
{
throw new MyExceptionClass(1, exception.Message.getStr());//"Binary URP
bridge disposed during call"
}

if (m_xDocument != NULL) {  m_xDocument->dispose();}

Thanks!

Shawn

There are many ways to do this:

o Toggle the AutoSpellCheck button in the Standard toolbar. Or remove
the tick from Tools | Options... | Language Settings | Writing Aids |
Options | Check spelling as you type.

o If your text is in a language for which you have no spelling
dictionary, you can set the text language appropriately and the
relevant text will then not be checked for spelling.

o You can set the language of your text - or parts of it - to "None
(Do not check spelling)".

Note that text language can be set in various ways: as a character
property, a character style property, or a paragraph style property
(but not a paragraph property, although an entire paragraph can be
given a language setting using the character property, of course).
The default language applies only in the absence of any of these settings.

is it possible to save a document in read only mode? for example: i
write and save my document in read only mode to becomes unchangeable
like pdf documents?

Once you have saved your document, you can set the file as read-only
outside LibreOffice. But note that this setting is an operating
system property, so it will not survive your sending the file to a
correspondent, for example.

But if you put your text into a "section" (using Insert |
Section...), you can protect that with a password, which prevents the
text being modified. There is no reason why all of a document's text
should not be in a section or series of sections.

Mind you, if you want others to see the document without the
possibility of modification, why not export it as PDF anyway?

I trust this helps.

Re: [libreoffice-users] question about libreoffice 4.3 and automatic spell check

2016-02-17 Thread Tim---Kracked_P_P---webmaster

I found the spell check options in
Tools>Options>Language Settings>Writing Aids>Options
and check or uncheck the various options.

I am using 5.0.4.2 on a Ubuntu 15.10 64bit system.

Pedro,

I'm still using v4.0.0.3. In this version, at least, I think you can
get to the automatic spell check options you're looking for by going
to Tools ... Autocorrect Options ... Options (tab). In that screen
you have the opportunity to specifiy what corrections are active
during typing and during manual correcting.

If that's not what you mean, and you're looking for whether or not
spellcheck runs automatically all the time, that's handled through an
item on the standard menu bar. You'll see two icons with a check mark
and the letters ABC; one of these has a red squiggly line. The one
without the line runs spellcheck (just like pressing F7), the other
toggles automatic checking on and off.

For a list of shortcut keys go to Help (press F1), search on "keyboard
shortcuts", then select "Shortcut Keys for LibreOffice Writer". This
gives you a list of the standard shortcuts; it won't show any
customized ones.

There doesn't seem to be any foolproof way of setting a file to
read-only. You can set a document to be opened read-only by going to
File ... Properties ... Security (tab) and checking the "Open file
read-only" box. Other users can only open it as read-only, but they
can make a copy and then save it with the original file name. To be
fair, I think this workaround exists with almost any program, not just
LO.

For 2/, you can open Tools -> Customise -> Keyboard. However, it wont give
you a nice readable overview of all shortcuts.

[libreoffice-users] Question on bugs

2016-01-25 Thread Malcolm Moore

This has always puzzled me :-

Why does LO list bugs by 'earliest version affected' ?
If you look at the bug list for 5.1 for example, it shows
119 bugs.  There are a number of bugs that 5.1 has
that don't show on the list as they are recorded as affecting
earlier versions. Why would anyone working on 5.1 look
for a bug that is down as affecting 4.1 or something.
An issue that came up the other day in both 5.0.4 and 5.1RC2
is actually first recorded as affecting 4.4.0 which by their
roadmap went end of life in the middle of last year.
