[libreoffice-users] gettextfields

2013-05-06 Thread Vieri
Hi,

I have an odt writer document with 2 input text fields (added with the form
designer toolbar). I manually type text into one of the fields. I copy/pasted a
macro to see if I could grab the text within the input field but haven't had
any luck. This is the test macro in Basic:

Sub EnumerateFields
  vEnum = ThisComponent.getTextFields().createEnumeration()
  If Not IsNull(vEnum) Then
If vEnum.hasMoreElements() Then
  Print "OK"
Else
  Print "NOT OK"
End If
  End If
End Sub

If I manually run this macro I get the "NOT OK" message.

What am I doing wrong?
What is the correct way of getting the text field elements?

Thanks

Vieri

[libreoffice-users] Calc sheet name

2013-05-06 Thread IGraham
LibreOffice 4.0.2.2
Calc

This is just me playing, nothing important

Is it possible to 'reference a cell in a sheet tab name'. I have a index
sheet and I'd like to name other sheets (in the sheet tabs) depending upon a
name in a cell within the index sheet ?

How would I go about that ? Is it possible ?

Thanks for any help you can give

thanks a lot! I've just made you moderator of the users list. ;-)
Of course, it's totally fine to check mails even just once a day.
There's no obligation to read everything in time - sorry if my mail

[libreoffice-users] Mail merge's "record number" field

2013-05-06 Thread LeroyTennison
Has anyone gotten this field to return anything? If so please provide
details of what you did. I created one line entries from the Bibliography
database, inserted Record number after a couple of fields (Title and Author)
followed by Next Record. Replicated the line a number of times on the page.
After printing the document to a file I opened it. The Title and Author
fields were there but nothing for the record number.

Precisely: company's product should meet company's target users goals.

I am sure that I am NOT target of neither RedHat not Novell. Probably you (and
many other readers of this mailing list) are neither.

Also: as far as RedHat and Novell are concerned, LibreOffice is not their core
product. They are main contributors to LO, but LO is not their main point of
interest.

In open source world, you are supposed to scratch your own itch (that is: send
patches or hire someone to do it for you). If you can't or are unable to, then
you might be better off somewhere else.

This is one of reasons why Linux and other open source apps never really get
substantial share of desktop market. Most desktop users can't scratch their
own itch, so they leave.

Of course there are some exceptions, most notably Mozilla Firefox. But this is
it: exceptions.

If you have no resources to offer, then I am afraid that you must just wait and
pray someone will pick idea up. This is bitter and unfair, but it's the way
world is.

The main difference between open source and closed source software is when main
force behind software is not interested in satisfying your request. In closed
source world, that's it. Dead end. In open source world, you still has some
margin of opportunity to see change made. But this is possibility, not
necessity. It's not like open source software get every feature anyone has
ever requested.

I think it's important to understand specificity of open source software. It is
definitely not for everyone.

Yes, but not in LibreOffice. The last version which works for me is a

It should show a counting number of the records.

I grabbed these two routines from my test modules without running them

the time to create a test document and such. Perhaps these will help

Do you mean, that you write to .odt and open the document then in MSO-2013?

Are you writing with ODF1.2 or with ODF 1.2 extended? In case of ODF 1.2
extended, you cannot expect that MSO can read it the same way, because
is might contain parts which are specific to LO.

Do you write and reopen the document on the same machine? Otherwise make
sure, that you have installed the same fonts on both machines.

 and vice versa:

created in MSO, stored in docx and opened in LO.

I would like to understand the situation and to know
- if it is just a bug (perhaps on both sides)
- if some standard local settings are applied, which result in different
display
- if it is a fundamental problem residing deep in the ODF and OOXML
standards

If one application writes ODF (without extended) and another application
reads this file and shows it with large differences, then there might be
errors in the application, but it can be shortcomings in the
specification as well. In such cases you should provide sample documents
and detailed descriptions, so that it is possible to investigate.

Hi :)
Mistakes happen but with ODF it's easy to post a bug-report against whichever
programs (except against MS ones) had trouble and get a response.  With MS
formats you just have to accept the problems.

This sounds quite serious. I am a member of QA and I would urge you to
report a bug and CC me on it. http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/BugReport

Please attach the document(s) that are crashing for you, and provide easy
steps to reproduce (if applicable).

Thanks for taking the initiative to bring up this problem - if we can
reproduce this and we have a bug that is detroying odg files, it would be
very serious.

Thanks again! Feel free to email me with any questions.

Alaak,
I don't know what Operating Sysytem you are using (I am running
Linux/KDE) but I found it helpful in those types of circumstances to
bring up LibreOffice from a command prompt (shell/terminal, etc.). From
that terminal window, LO may spit out some error/diagnostic messages
before it crashes. You may get some idea of where the problem may be
from those messages.

Good luck.

formats. The competitive formats are implemented not fully or with
deliberate errors
Is this also true if you use MS 1997~2003 .doc format? And if not,
then why not use that format?

--doug

Every MSO will work fine with .doc from 2003 through 2013.
Most FOSS packages work well with it as well.

For me, if I need to deal with MSO users, 99% should have 2003 or later
so I am 99% sure that any .doc file will work fine with their version of
MSO. I do not send .docx in case the user runs 2003. That is where I
stopped getting MSO.

I have a lady who sends me, and everyone else her .docx files that are
unreadable by anyone that does not have the newest MSO. Since she does
not want anyone to edit it, I told her about using PDF file instead, or
at least .doc files.

[libreoffice-users] Hide rows in a table in Writer

2013-05-06 Thread Motoborg
I have a friend who needs to hide some rows in a table before printing the
document, but does not want to delete the rows.

I have found how to hide the text, but this leaves empty boxes, which are
printed.

Is it possible to hide rows? If it is can you advise how.

In advance thank you. And also grateful thanks to all the software writers
involved in this project

Not that I know of.

Workaround:
o Save the document.
o Delete the offending rows.
o (Check the resulting changes to other parts of the document.)
o Print.
o Close the document, carefully *discarding* changes.

I trust this helps.

2013-05-06 Thread Tom Davies
Hi :)
If the table is a spreadsheet (Calc) then just select the row by clicking on
the grey box with the row's number in it and then right-click.  "Hide" is
halfway down the right-click menu in Calc.
Regards from

Tom :)

[libreoffice-users] error messages when starting

2013-05-06 Thread Milind Vaze

Hello:

I installed Libreoffice 4.0.2.2 yesterday on Windows 7. The installation
happened properly.

But everytime when starting the spreadsheet or the wordprocessor, I get
the attached error messages. I say OK to to all the messages and later
the software works properly. I haven't yet used the software extensively.

I tried re-downloading, uninstalling and reinstalling the software a few
times. But the error messages keep coming.

Can anybody let me know how this can be tackled?
