[libreoffice-users] [4.0.3.3 non fixed bug] Link with a space Pdf export error (%20 characters - space ones - exported as %2520 ones)

2013-05-09 Thread Carlo Strata

Hi Everyone and sorry for my long silence!

I have not read the mailing list for a long, but I am always here to
use, test, update and spread LibreOffice! ;-)

Since 4.x versions - but maybe since before:

1. if you create a new writer document and copy in it a with-space-link
like this:

http://support.mozilla.org/it/kb/Informazioni%20su%20Firefox%20Sync
2. save the document;
3. export the document in pdf with the default settings;
4. open the exported pdf;
5. click on the clickable link;
6. you will get this wrong link instead:
http://support.mozilla.org/it/kb/Informazioni%2520su%2520Firefox%2520Sync
7. if you open that link from the odt (as usual with a ctrl+click) you
get instead the right link and the browser open correctly!
8. if you leave your mouse cursor on the link both on the pdf and the
odt documents you will get a correct title yellow lable (tooltip) too!

9. I finally think there is a bug on the pdf export module.
10. This is the same if you create the above document with the Insert -
Hypertext link menu function.

I have tested this on each new testing release, but only today I have
found the mental time to write this mail.
I am also going to search if there is a related issue yet and if not, as
I used in the near past, I will post a new one.

Have a sunny day,

Carlo

p.s. on this Saturday I will see Italo (Vignoli) on Venice (where I
live) in a very interesting public access Venetian Engineers Meeting
that I help to organize... :-)

Re: [tdf-discuss] Re: [libreoffice-users] [4.0.3.3 non fixed bug] Link with a space Pdf export error (%20 characters - space ones - exported as %2520 ones)

2013-05-10 Thread Carlo Strata

Hi Everyone,

as I told yesterday in my first mail I will look for an already created
issue and if not I will create it. When I make this? Now! ;-)

In any case I will make you know what I do.

@Tom:

I think that:
- on URLs, browsers - but maybe a behaviour stated on a well determined
W3 Standard or similar open Consortium - substitute spaces with %20 hex
character code;
- %20 (!!!): that means that %, 2 and 0 are all (!) well admitted
characters, all (!!!);
- so I don't see the reason to recursively (!!!) substitute the %
character when an URL is input in LibreOffice because % it self is
already an accepted one;
- another low probability hypotheses in my head was that LibreOffice
translate the space on a full 16 bit space character coding, but your
explain about %25 representing the % hex code, rapidly make me clear
what was happened;
- in any case (!), if you open the with-space link directly from a
Writer document (ctrl+click for friends o chaps ;-) ) you will get the
right page: in other words the link behave correctly! So the problem on
pdf link behaviour has to be fixed in LibreOffice too!!! :-) But I do
not think is a too hard to do, is not it?

Now I will go to open or vote an existing issue and come back here soon.
I think we could also to maintain only one discuss: I will suggest the
tdf-discuss one, what do you think about?

Hi :)
%25 is the code for a % symbol so the 'wrong' link is not really wrong after

%25s with % so that %2520 becomes %20 and then the apparently 'wrong' link
looks right. It's a good reason for avoiding spaces and non-standard

Seems a few other organisations are having trouble with %25 replacing %

 Hi,

 Does a bug report exist

[libreoffice-users] [QA] LibreOffice 3.6.1.1 first tests results

2012-08-16 Thread Carlo Strata

Ciao Everyone!

My current notebook system:
- OpenSuSE 12.1, updated, gnome 3.4.1, Kernel Linux 3.1.10-63-desktop,
x86-64 (on an Intel EM64T Cpu), italian GUIed;
- nVidia GeForce 9500M GS - 512 Mbyte dedicated Video RAM, kernel
integrated nouveau driver;
- LibreOffice vanilla Version *3.6.1.1* (Build ID: 4db6344), italian
GUIed.

In the LibreOffice *3.6.0.4* first tests I dealt with this bugs:
- system integratiion file association fails (even though
.../desktop-integration/libreoffice3.6-suse-menus-3.6.0-104.noarch.rpm
was installed);
- italian dictionary doesn't seem to check the words (none incorrect
were underlined);
- importing a pdf file results in a read only opened Draw document and
the read only state still remains/persists after saving as a
LibreOffice Draw file (odg file).

In the first 3.6.1.1 - that I have just downloaded and installed - test
all of upper bugs seem to be fixed! :-)

Fine work from tester and developer and bug fixer!

Have a nice and sunny day!

[libreoffice-users] Win64: Scribus too... :-)

2012-11-02 Thread Carlo Strata

Dear Everyone,

are we working forward to LibreOffice-win64?

Taking a look if there were new Scribus releases I give a look to next
branch svn 1.4.2

http://sourceforge.net/projects/scribus/files/scribus-svn/1.4.2svn/

and I see that... there are an x64 windows build (!!!) that I suppose it
use the Win64 GhostScript build too

Any new in this walk?

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: 64 bit

2013-11-09 Thread Carlo Strata

Hi Kind People! :-)

I have already written in the past about win64 builds. And now, after
reading this interesting entire thread I think:

- I completely agree that it is a first priority to complete the Calc
(LibreOffice?) code rewrite and modernization;

- but (!!!) just after this further rewrite (and not after the next
infinite ones!), I think (!) it will be useful to organize well the code
so that all Microsoft Windows 32 and 64 bit codes build automatically
and without any trouble (in my head this may be a big goal that may also
have positive effects in later time... like deprecated Windows API
cleaning, ...);

- I am 44 years old and I am in computer science since I was 16, I am
a computer science engineer since 1999, I have lived the 16 to 32 bit
Windows migration in the half 90s and I remember similar talks about the
priority to convert code or not (at the time not so much open source
(floss) one at least on Windows...) from win16 to win32s (does someone
remember these APIs?) or win32 (full);

- in that case, in 90s, the migration doesn't complain only the API bit
size, but a more fluid multithreading implementation, a native flat
memory addressing and so on...;

- now I suppose or try to guess (!), in particular on Windows systems,
we are in front of a similar API improvement/modernization that go
beyond the only bit size, data addressing size, memory address code
allocation (i..e. over the firsts 4 Gbyte), data size computation,
multicore suitable code, ...:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_API#Versions

- I think that making intra-project experiences exchange (!!!) in win64
porting (and not only in this...) may put down time and money costs: The
Document Foundation are a XXI century Office Suite Management
innovation, why don't continuing to innovate the floss deploy also
formally exchanging experience without suffer to discover again (!) the
same things???!!! It is better to pay for the discover of the very new
things or ideas, isn't it?

- in the Document Foundation Wiki I have seen something about this
discuss, particularly about GSoC:

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Development/GSoC/Ideas#Porting_LibreOffice_to_x64_Windows

- below I build a little, absolutely not comprehensive, lists of already
win64 and only win32 floss Windows applications: are these first list
projects experiences useful to the GSoC student to reach our goal? I
think at least for most! ;-)

Already win64 floss application (All developers are genius? All projects
are petroleum or gold or energy rich? I don't think so...):

- Scribus (!!!);
- GIMP (already said in this thread);
- AviDemux (and developers have success over multi external library
porting; it depends on many famous multimedia libraries!!!);
- VideoLAN (and developers have success over multi external library
porting; it depends on many famous multimedia libraries!!!);

- Blender;
- Paint.NET (I suppose a simple .NET capability inheritance);
- FreeCAD (but there are some trouble in the building structure because
win64 builds are somewhat abandoned since a lot of months... It is a
very pity! It may be interesting ask them because and share experiences
so that we continue never reinventing the wheel!!! This possible
dialogue may be useful for both them and us...!!! And this approach may
push down develop costs...);

- BRL-CAD (recently!);
- RawTherapee;
- Ghostscript;
- Mozilla Firefox (but only in the nightly builds, as already said in
this thread, even though flash and java plugin win64 build are stable
and running since at least one/two years);

- PostgreSQL database;
- MySQL/MariaDB databases;
- Python;
- Java;
- PHP (experimental, interesting read here:
http://marc.info/?l=php-internalsm=137002754604365w=2 or from Apache
Lounge http://www.apachelounge.com/viewtopic.php?p=22259)

- Apache HTTPD;
- ...

Not yet win64 (still win32) floss application:
- LibreOffice (!!!) (and AOO, I suppose);
- FileZilla (!!!);
- Notepad++;
- InkScape (!!!);
- Merkaartor;
- OpenCPN;
- GPSBabel;
- Mozilla Thunderbird (some win64 builds in the past were done..., do
you remember http://www.mozilla-x86-64.com/? Recently a Customer of mine
reaches the 4 Gbyte mail folder file limit I suppose due to SQLite
limit, surely for bad mail management (I make him to archive mail per
year), many mails with big attached files, ...);

- pgadmin (PostgreSQL GUI admin client);
- GNU Utils (I recently use gawk in windows environment to extract data
from a digital marine echo sounder/fishfinder datalog file and create a
.gpx xml GPS track file);

- SQLite;
- ...

*I think we, all together, could do API upgrade.*
*This is, of course (!), not in conflict with TDF donations, TDF project
financing and other marketing or future growing things...*

Have All a sunny weekend!

[libreoffice-users] LibreOffice 4.1.4.2 win32 seems to have a dotted right Start Screen (Draw, Database, ... side)

2013-12-16 Thread Carlo Strata

Hi Everyone,

yesterday afternoon I install LibreOffice 4.1.4.2 win32 (ITA guied and
ITA local help) on my Windows 8.1 (64 bit, updated, ITA guied, AMD
Catalyst 13.9, A8 CPU + AMA dual graphics).

It seems to have a dotted _right_ Start Screen (Draw, Database, ...
side): if you take a look with attention you will see a regular dotted
mesh. Its color is only slightly clearer than the central background.

I haven't seen at all it in the past time...: is it correct or there
were some bug, some runout?

If you need I could attach the snapshot in Nabble...

Have a nice day,

Wow. I had to download the image and zoom it to see the white dots.

Now that you mention it, I loaded 4.1.3.2 and it has the same dots. So it
seems like a regression from the 4.0 branch (there are no dots in 4.0.6) or
within the 4.1 branch.
Maybe you want to report that bug/regression? :)

[libreoffice-users] Just an hint to spread the ideas in normal users about how LibreOffice grows and improve itself in the near and far future

2011-07-19 Thread Carlo Strata

Hi Everyone,

in Italian Libre lists we have also discussed the hypothesis to add a
quick release plan link

http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/ReleasePlan

also in the LibreOffice Download page
http://www.libreoffice.org/download/

into the second level horizontal menu (lighter green).

This is because we think many people look there for it and they couldn't
find it, at the moment!!!

The current sole place is, again, to hard to find and too hidden too.

We all think that an interesting, well and wastefully known release plan
may:

- anticipate a software suite adoption and convince doubting people
because they know that in the (hopefully near) future they also have new
important features for they business and/or activities;
- to wide people participating in evolving the suite itself for their
own interest by:

-- enthusiastic bug signaling;
-- helping in bug fixing, testing, QAing;
-- joining many more Communities;
-- sharing new (their) knowledge, experiences and use cases;
-- and so on.

On the contrary if you don't say anything about future, you could
remaining dubious, at least.

Personally, for example, I don't kwow if Python (controlled by The
Python Foundation) has a chance to substitute Java (controlled by Oracle
and...).

It's again our opinion.

What do you think about it?

Have a nice evening,

Carlo

 Server not found
 Firefox can't find the server at openjdk.java.net

I can download files from the LO web site, so it is not my Internet connection.

Where is from here? Where is the server located? Could there be some break
in communication, due to the power outages from the Tropical Storm damage, and the DNS
routering between me and the server have not found a new path? For me, I am in New York
State USA, on the eastern fringe of the storm. 30-40 mph winds and medium to heavy
rains. Not much damage here. But if you drive 2 hours east, you get downed power lines,
washed out roads and bridges, and a whole lot of mess. To get to NY City from here you
go 1.5 hours east and 3+ hours south [as the highway travels].

Lotus won't install on Windows 7 and we have 1000's of active lwp files
that need modification regularly, so a viewer won't work.
3.3.4 works, so the filters must have been changed for 3.4.x

This sounds like an important regression so I suggest you to file a bug

Perhaps an intermittent problem like the OpenOffice.org servers?

I would definitely try the normal java but a version around 2.6.0_21 rather than
anything newer. The new ones seem to break LibreOffice somehow but are better
for web-browsers apparently. Luckily it's very easy to have both and it's easy
to select which one LibreOffice uses. I think the web-browsers tend to
automatically choose the newest version so, hopefully, it should all work out.

Hi there, I don't know is this the right place to send this but ... (you

I've had installed Libre Office 3.4.2 on my machine (Samsung r538 notebook
-
intel core i3 processor, 4GB of RAM and 500 GB HDD, with installed Windows
7
home Premium x64), I've opened *.doc file created with MS Office 2003 and
tried to save it as *.pdf. The result was that Libre office crashed in the
process of saving the file in the new format.The program tried to restore
the file (it was a success) and I've tried to save it again with the same
result - Libre office crashing on savingthe file. Than I've tried to define
different options for the file in *.pdf format before saving it but again
the result was that the program crashed during the save/convert process.
Afters that I've saved the file like *.odf and again the result was the
same. Than I've downloaded a program for converting files to *.pdf called
universal document converter (udc.exe) and after installing it Libre office
has stopped to crash on saving documents in *.pdf format. after the final
release of Libre office 3.4.3 I've uninstalled the UDC program and again
the
result was that Libre Office crashed during saving the same file in *.pdf
format. I reali like Libre office but after theese problems I've had to
install the 3.3 release of the suite, because (I don't know why) it didn't
crashes during saving the above mentioned file like *.pdf.
My question is, is there gonna be a fix for the problem (maybe in the next
release of the 3.4 line ) or am I the first one to notice It?

P.s
Sorry for may bad English but it's not my native language

[libreoffice-users] LibreOffice 3.4.5 RC1 on Windows XP seems to be run twice (only) for the first use after install it

2011-12-17 Thread Carlo Strata

Hi Everyone,

I have installed LibreOffice 3.4.5 RC1 on two Windows XP (win32 build)
PCs and in one more Linux notebook with Linux x86-64 rpm LibreOffice build.

I'm sure that on Windows XP (32 bit, Home, Italian GUIed) I have
LibreOffice to be run twice for the first use after install, next ones
start with one sole run.

On linux I don't remember exactly.

However this behavior sounds familiar in my head. Is it a regression? I
suspect already having seen this on past LibreOffice bugs.

Is that already known and confirmed?

Have I to search in the bug list in the usual way and in case submit a bug?

Have a nice Sunday,

Carlo

p.s. I'm happy to see that java 1.7.1 (32 bit) has now listed as
available java virtual machines.

Re: [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice 3.4.5 RC1 on Windows XP seems to be run twice (only) for the first use after install it

2011-12-18 Thread Carlo Strata

Hi Tom,

simply after installing LibreOffice 3.4.5 RC1:

- on Windows XP, SP3, updated, 32 bit, Ita GUIed - just, and only,
after install, I have to run it twice to be able to see LibreOffice
because the first run didn't yield anything (on screen), but the second
run (doble click) make LibreOffice to appear; all next (!) single runs
make LibreOffice to appear (ok? ;-) )

- on Windows Vista, SP2, updated, 32 bit, Ita GUIed - all goes well
(i.e. LibreOffice appear always with only one (!) double click on his
desktop icon); (yesterday test)

- on linux, kernel 2.6.38.6, x86-64, Gnome 2.30.2, Ita GUIed - all goes
well (if I don't remember bad).

So my trouble seem to appear only in Windows XP PCs. Am I the only one
with this tedious behavior?

Have a nice evening,

Carlo

Hi Everyone,

I have installed LibreOffice 3.4.5 RC1 on two Windows XP (win32 build)
PCs and in one more Linux notebook with Linux x86-64 rpm LibreOffice build.

I'm sure that on Windows XP (32 bit, Home, Italian GUIed) I have
LibreOffice to be run twice for the first use after install, next ones
start with one sole run.
On linux I don't remember exactly.

AFAIK, this has been the standard behavior since the version 3.3 or 3.4
when we started to register extensions at startup.

Well, the extensions should get pre-registered during the installation.
The cache is just copied during the first application start.

I add Andras into CC. He reworked the Windows installer for LO-3.4.5. It
is possible that he broke the pre-registration, so the cache is not
created and the first start is slower and more visible.

No, I did not rework the installer for 3.4.5, reworked installer is a
new feature of 3.5.0. It would be better to file a bug.

Best regards,
Andras

Fine, thanks: so I will do asap.

Now, I'm doing some more tests: in the last Windows XP, Pro (!), 32 bit,
SP3, updated, Ita GUIed, in which there was an old OpenOffice.org 2.4.0
installation (which, of course, I uninstall before installing LO 3.4.5
RC1), all goes well and the first run after LibreOffice installation
make LibreOffice itself appear. My previous Windows XP installation were
in Home version with already installed LibreOffice 3.3.2 (which, of
course, I uninstall too before installing LO 3.4.5 RC1).

This last case, compared and integrated with previous ones, seems to be
somewhat interesting so I'll surely describe it in the incoming new bug.

I'm asking about the standardization of *hybrid pdf* format.

This is because I think it is a very useful thing, but I don't want to

changed or abandoned.
Is Oasis-Open or ISO or other standard Organization well defining this

Yes, this doesn't quite work as intended...or at least, not as its
alleged to work on other platforms. From what I understand, you can not
simply point to the TB application bundle in your list of applications,
but have to drill down through the bundle's contents to point to the

You also have to make sure when you want to send the document via e-mail
that TB is not already running, otherwise you will get an error message,
and nothing will happen.

can be seen also in the attached file a. odf. This is the log from
http://tools.odftoolkit.org/odfvalidator/:

Result details:

Perhaps the problem is there : change default ODF version used by your
LibreOffice and try again.

I ran a few tests as well at http://tools.odftoolkit.org/odfvalidator/
I created a single document with LO 3.3.2, Ubuntu OOo 3.2, Standard OOo
3.3.0, and Standard OOo-Dev (3.4.0). All failed with 1.2 extended with
the exception of OOo-Dev (3.4.0).

With OOo-Dev 3.4.0:

This file is valid

Errors whith LO 3.3.2, Ubuntu OOo 3.2, and Standard OOo 3.3.0, were
consistent 'Error:element manifest:manifest is missing version
attribute':

When changing the format to 1.0/1.1:

and

This file is valid

Note:

1.2 (not extended) fails on all as well - with the exception of OOo-Dev
(3.4.0). Also, I first tested a Word97 document that I'd used in a bug
report (saved as odt) and that doc carries over a style that the odf
test doesn't like:
upload:///Word97Test_wLO.odt/META-INF/manifest.xml[2,88]:Error:element
manifest:manifest is missing version attribute
upload:///Word97Test_wLO.odt/styles.xml[2,12196]:Error:unexpected

upload:///Word97Test_wLO.odt:Info:Generator: LibreOffice/3.3$Linux
LibreOffice_project/330m19$Build-202

This file is NOT valid

Result details:

upload:///Word97Test_OOoDev.odt/styles.xml[2,12124]:Error:unexpected
attribute style:layout-grid-snap-to-characters
upload:///Word97Test_OOoDev.odt:Info:Generator: OOo-dev/3.4$Linux
OpenOffice.org_project/340m0$Build-9583

so I recommend testing using just a cleanly generated file (like I did
afterwards) for the tests.

Very interesting results... we have to deal with them as soon as possible...

If Libò 3.4.0 will be merged again with the last OOo 3.4.0 commits
without loosing all the code cleaning (Code Hacks) efforts we could have
the same The file is valid also for Libò 3.4.0.

Happy Easter evening,

extra development on the 4.2.6 is to test-drive things or tidy-up before
pulling things into the main 4.3.x

Re: [libreoffice-users] unable to authentication login/password through proxy in OpenOffice

2014-08-27 Thread Carlo Strata

Ciao Bruno!

Have you tried to put credentials on proxy URLs in LibreOffice proxy
settings (Tools - Options - Internet - Proxy - Manual)?

I mean something like this:
Proxy HTTP:
http://proxy_user:proxy_passw...@proxy.server.com:proxy_port/ (or with
the proxy port only in the LibreOffice proxy port field)
Proxy HTTPS:
https://proxy_user:proxy_passw...@proxy.server.com:proxy_port/ (ibidem)
Proxy FTP: ftp://proxy_user:proxy_passw...@proxy.server.com:proxy_port/
(ibidem)

And so on...

Have a sunny day,

Carlo

p.s. Webgrafia:
http://www.gnu.org/software/wget/manual/html_node/Proxies.html
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/34079/how-to-specify-an-authenticated-proxy-for-a-python-http-connection

Doesn't work :-(

Another possibility is that the service is blocked by your proxy. Are
you able to access it from work through any other means to test? e.g.
another application, by manually connecting to it (if you know what
you're doing and it uses a plain-text protocol, you can connect a
telnet session via telnet address port from a command prompt,
and then type the requests and see if you get a response back).

I would like to use a Google geocoding service.

It works with my/your favorite browser (through proxy):
http://maps.googleapis.com/maps/api/geocode/xml?sensor=trueaddress=grand\%27place+Brussels+Belgium
return a xml including location coordinates. My webbrowser ask me the
proxy's login/passwd.

It works with wget through proxy (Cygwin installed, .wgetrc configured
with proxy's login/passwd).

To use the google service with LibO, I have found the following
webpage: http://www.tuicool.com/articles/IN7zEb. It works on a
connection without proxy but not trough proxy.

I've tried the following macro in LibO (simplier) - same result:
works without proxy, not with proxy!

Sub Macro1
open http://www.google.com; for input as #1
line input #1, texte
close #1
print texte
End Sub

LibO want not to pass trough proxy!

Does it exist an another way to use webservices into LibO (pluggin, or
something like that ?)

It may be worth asking your IT department what you might need to do to
get through their proxy; the rest of us can only guess at how it might
be configured. Some are more aggressive than others in blocking
certain types of traffic.

I'll see with him.

Thanx you very much for your help. We keep in touch.

[libreoffice-users] PDF export checking whether the file is locked (opened) by another program before starting exporting over it

2014-11-29 Thread Carlo Strata

Hi Everyone,

I use LibreOffice for all my job activities and I yield many pdf
documents. Many time I change the original document and update the
associate pdf. If I forget (!) to close the pdf document on my viewer
(see below), not necessarily the viewer itself, I get a nice sequence of
I/O errors and the export operation obviously fails!

If I export a long document I have to repeat the long time operation and
to waste my time.

So, why not check whether the file is locked (opened) by another program
before (!) starting exporting over it? I think it is possible.

Wht do you think about? Is there already an issue about this behaviour?

My current work environment is:
- Microsoft Windows 8.1, 64 bit, Ita gui, daily full updated;
- LibreOffice 4.3.5.1, win32, Ita gui and local help;
- Adobe Acrobat Reader XI, 11.0.09, win32.

[libreoffice-users] [Calc] The LOOKUP() function (Calc vs. Excel)

2014-11-29 Thread Carlo Strata

Hi Everyone,

I recently deal with a supplier catalog/price list spreadsheet xlsx file.

That file use the LOOKUP() function (in Italy RICERCA()) in many
places. In one of those occurrences, the first LOOKUP() parameter
(Search Criterion) was missed, but on Microsoft Excel this was ok (no
errors in the cell), in LibreOffice was ko (Err:511, missing
variable/parameter)! I think this difference was yielded by different
assumed values of the missing parameter and/or different validation rules.

So compliance depends not only on file format, but also on function
behaviour/validation on different program.

This is a Vendor Lockin trouble?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vendor_lock-in

What do you think about? Is this a known issue?

The work environment is:
- Microsoft Windows 8.1, 64 bit, Ita gui, daily full updated;
- LibreOffice 4.3.5.1, win32, Ita gui and local help;
- Microsoft Office 2013 Professional Plus trial version (I had installed

I do not see a difference, besides a language difference (i have
Dutch version of Excel, en LO in English) (in Excel is see '#N/B',
when LOOKUP did not found, in LO is see '#N/A')

I uploaded my testfile here:
http://wikisend.com/download/402228/zoeken.xlsx

I don't think the questioner is referring to the situation in your
example, where the cell referred to by the first parameter is empty,
but that where the LOOKUP() reference itself contains no first
parameter - in other words, where its opening parenthesis is followed
immediately by the separator character. In that case, the behaviour
does appear to be different: LibreOffice treats it as faulty formula,
whereas Microsoft Excel evaluates the (slightly deficient) formula and
returns #N/A.

... so this is an Excel problem because it behaves differently with
respect to its own help...?!!!

In any case this Excel bug yields some documents with some
uncompleted/uncorrected formulas that don't generate errors in the

standard behavior and/or some additional work in migrating to LO, for

according to Microsoft, this firt value is 'REQUIRED'

VLOOKUP (lookup_value, table_array, col_index_num, [range_lookup])

lookup_value(*required*)

The value you want to lookup. The value you want to look up must be in
the first column of the range of cells you specify in table-array .

For example, if table-array spans cells B2:D7, then your lookup_value
must be in column B. See the graphic below. Lookup_value can be a
value or a reference to a cell.

or, in the Vector form:
LOOKUP(lookup_value, lookup_vector, [result_vector])

The LOOKUP function vector form syntax has the following arguments:

lookup_value*Required*. A value that LOOKUP searches for in
the first vector. Lookup_value can be a number, text, a logical value,
or a name or reference that refers to a value.

file is locked, rather, about the fact that LO spends (potentially a
lot of) time processing the file before reporting the problem.

Instead, LO could check access to the file early, and report the problem
before wasting time processing. For the most common use cases, this
would save the user some time. That is something that *does* belong to
LO.

Of course, there would still be edge cases where the file wasn't locked
when LO started processing the pdf, but became locked by the time LO
finished. There is nothing that can be done about that, short of LO
itself locking the file, which may or may not be desired.

Hi,
Google for acrobat reader file locking and you'd notice that this
unnecessary locking is inherent issue of Windows. You're dealing with
behavior largely inherited from the MS DOS era. You can pick other pdf
reader. Or publish to a web server and open the file using web browser
-it's lockless.

If you ask about Linux, it was solved *properly* years ago. If you're
a pro you can try e.g. Okular reader which reloads the pdf
automatically and never locks. Why would it in a modern multiuser
Inernet-enabled environment?

The bug doesn't belong to LO. Error message can be added, but IMHO
just to annoy users in a different way...

Hi Everyone,

I use LibreOffice for all my job activities and I yield many pdf

documents. Many time I change the original document and update the
associate pdf. If I forget (!) to close the pdf document on my viewer

of I/O errors and the export operation obviously fails!

If I export a long document I have to repeat the long time

to waste my time.

So, why not check whether the file is locked (opened) by another

Wht do you think about? Is there already an issue about this

My current work environment is:

- LibreOffice 4.3.5.1, win32, Ita gui and local help;

Re: [libreoffice-users] [Calc] The LOOKUP() function (Calc vs. Excel)

2014-12-01 Thread Carlo Strata
From what I remember, in Excel the formula does not yield an error or
something like that, but a numerical result!!!

The original formula is (I translate the functions from Italian to
English named ones):

=IF(ISERROR(LOOKUP(+;E7));D7-D7*E7%;(D7-D7*MID(E7;1;LOOKUP(+;E7)-1)%)-(D7-D7*MID(E7;1;LOOKUP(+;E7)-1)%)*MID(E7;LOOKUP(+;E7)+1;LEN(E7)-LOOKUP(;E7))%)
where:
- D7 contains final user price (full price);
- E7 contains the %discount (i.e. either 24 or 23+5);
- F7 contains the upper big formula;
- the trouble is in the last LOOKUP(;E7).

I suppose (!) there is an addition to the two behaviors (Err:511 and
#N/A, respectively from LO and Excel) described by Luuk: Excel
evaluate only the part it calculate and not the entire formula or loose
the internal #N/A in calculations. I cannot check this because I have
not Excel anymore on my notebook...

In other words, if you use a formula like this:
=IF(1=1;3;LOOKUP(;peace))

LO check the entire formula and answer Err:511 and Excel? Someone may
check for this?

In any case I agree with Stefan, this is not an Excel problem neither a
LibreOffice problem, it´s a users problem. :-)

Thank you very much,

Carlo

p.s. The fixed formula has a plus sign on the first parameter, that is:
LOOKUP(+;E7), like other ones.

this was ok (no errors in the cell), in LibreOffice was ko
(Err:511, missing
variable/parameter)! I think this difference was yielded by
different assumed values of the missing parameter and/or different
validation rules. So compliance depends not only on file format,
but also on function behaviour/validation on different program.

In that case, the behaviour
does appear to be different: LibreOffice treats it as faulty formula,
whereas Microsoft Excel evaluates the (slightly deficient) formula
and returns #N/A.

Excel needs comma separators instead of semi-colons, of course - but
the equivalent formula yields 3 in Excel 2010. If you change the test
to 11 to force it to evaluate the LOOKUP(), it gives a #VALUE! error
because peace is a text value, not an array. If you substitute an
array here, it gives #N/A. In either of these latter cases, if you ask
it to show calculation steps, it has evaluated the inequality to
FALSE, identified the LOOKUP as the next thing to evaluate, and says
The next evaluation will result in an error.

Re: [libreoffice-users] PDF Extnension for Libre Office/Writer or Open Office

2014-12-31 Thread Carlo Strata

Hi Charles and all Others,

may be you are opening an originally called hybrid PDF?

These ones are PDF that includes original source document in the PDF
attachments (that may be of various types... see the link below)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portable_Document_Format#Technical_overview

In this case if your pdf opens in Writer, as you told us, it may be the
pdf contains an *odt* as attachment (from which the following Writer
association...).

I think you can verify if this is true by inspecting the file with some
tools like Ghostscript (dump* command), pdftk, ...

and see the attachments/streams/...

Finally you can create your own hybrid PDF checking the box Embed
OpenDocument file

https://help.libreoffice.org/Common/Export_as_PDF

Hope this help.

Happy new year,

Carlo

p.s. I think it will be helpful if we decide to give a name to this kind
of PDFs and, once more, to standardize them (Oasis-Open, for example).

Do you get any error messages when LO crashes?

[libreoffice-users] Windows 64 bit builds born. Really and long last!

2015-02-18 Thread Carlo Strata

Hi Everyone!

Yesterday evening I take a look to LibreOffice 4.5.x initial release
note page:

And scrolling down the page I see, among the likely concrete 4.5
targets, the Windows 64 build!!! :-) ;-)

http://ostrovsky.org/libo/LibreOfficeDev_4.5.0.0.alpha0_Win_x64.2015-02-18.msi

I think no more main releases could be skipped again. No more!

I ask myself if this is a Collabora contribution like the Android
viewer that is a 4.5.x based build too:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.collabora.libreoffice
https://libreoffice-from-collabora.com/
or something else...

In any case, I am very happy for all of us! I will test my bugs in that
build too and report the results in the bug tracker.

[libreoffice-users] [LibreOffice, 4.4.5.2, win32, Draw, textbox] Changing case upper/lower - first letter on each word upper freezes LO (OK in Writer)

Hi Everyone,

I just have seen that on [LibreOffice, 4.4.5.2, win32, Draw, textbox],
if you select some text and format it by the Format menu - Upper/Lower

The same text copied on Writer and formatted on the same way format
itself immediately and correctly.

Is this a well known behaviour? Have I to check and file a new bug?

[libreoffice-users] Re: [bug 2/3] on both print preview and native pdf export, cell background slightly misaligned

Thank you very much Brian!

I saw you have used AOO 4.1.1 (from pdf properties), but I suppose it's
the same on the (definitively?) last 4.1.2.
In any case I will open a bug with your files attached too, classifying
it "Inherited From OOo", and I will post back here the associated number
and link.

I think I will also open a bug with respect to the "T" cell border
little overrun because one line that orthogonally meets another one
slightly trespassing it over without blending and exactly ending in it.
This other bug will also appear to be classified "Inherited From OOo",
always comparing your and my files.

[libreoffice-users] [bug 3/3] presentation screen may differ from edit screen on Impress

2015-12-12 Thread Carlo Strata

Hi Everyone!

On Impress presentation screen differs from edit screen in some cases.

You could see the bug here (odp, native exported pdf):
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/77u64rz365jp014/AAAxq1wT8FLKePyZa1uJ43KGa?dl=0

My system is:

 * Microsoft Windows 10 Home, 64 bit (x86-64), Italian, daily updated;
 * Java 1.8.0 update 66 (x86-64) configured on LibreOffice in Tools ->
Options -> LibreOffice -> Advanced;
 * LibreOffice 5.0.4.2, win64, custom install -> full Optional
Components selected, Italian help installed;

 * SumatraPDF, 3.1.1, win64;
 * Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, win32, italian, 2015.009.20079;
 * Gimp 2.8.16, win64 with gimp-help-2-2.8.2-it installed (the
background png image with a transparent gradient was created with Gimp
2.8.14, win64);

 * Paint.NET, 4.0.6.

The bug is already filed by me since 2014-07-14 here:
https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=81360
but I think it may hide some rendering troubles, code cleaning activity,
code dupes (!) for the same function on different target (i.e. edit and
presentation screens), ... It has been classified "Inherited From OOo".

I'm trying to promote it and its fixing. ;-)

What do you think about?

Have a nice and sunny day,

Carlo

[libreoffice-users] 5.0.5.1 and 5.1.0.3 crashes easily on Windows (10, 1511 build, 64 bit)

2016-02-02 Thread Carlo Strata

Hi Everyone!

I was using LibreOffice 5.0.4.2, Windows 64 build, ITA gui, on Microsoft
Windows 10, 64 bit, 1511 build, daily updated, ITA gui.
I installed (upgraded) first to 5.0.5.1 for some days but I find, I
notice that it easily crashes (after saving and/or exporting, I think)
and that export transparent PNGs in a wrong way (like a lined fog glass).

So I decided to give a chance to 5.1.0.3 (I normally start using since
x.y.1 releases)...
I observed that crashes didn't stop (PNGs exports are good) and that
(blocking bug???!!!) in Writer some numerical dialog box had not (lost!)
the up and down arrows (see, for example, in a writer image the size
properties boxes, ...).

Have you recently released on both branches (5.0.5 and 5.10) some
"critical", not so tested code?

I normally ask to users list for comments before search/open a bug: what
do you think about?

Have all a sunny evening,

Carlo

2016-02-03 Thread Carlo Strata

Thank you Miguel Angel Riosv and V Stuart Foot!

Before installing the 5.1.0.3 I already had performed a complete rename
of the LibreOffice profile directory:

C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\LibreOffice\4

I install LibreOffice in this way:
 * Microsoft Windows 10 Home, 64 bit (x86-64), 1511 build, Italian,
daily updated;

 * Java 1.8.0 update 71 (x86-64) configured on LibreOffice in Tools ->
   Options -> LibreOffice -> Advanced;
 * LibreOffice 5.1.0.3, win64, custom install:
 ** full Optional Components selected;
 ** Italian gui (the default in my case) and English gui (to help bug
hunting...);

 * LibreOffice 5.1.0.3, win64, Italian help installed.

Unchecking Tools -> Options -> View: "Use OpenGL for all rendering (on
restart)" fix (thank you!) in Writer that some numerical dialog box were
losting the up and down arrows (see, for example, in a writer image the
size properties boxes, paragraph properties, ...).

I will keep you informed about the stability!

Have all a sunny day!

[libreoffice-users] Calc: PDF export vs. print to a PDF printer

2016-03-04 Thread Carlo Strata

Hi Everyone,

at the moment, I have taken a look only on mailing list, but I have not
seen nothing relating. I am speaking about the difference in Calc
between pdf exporting a multi-sheet ods document (a spreadsheet
document) and printing it in a pdf printer (software printer).

The file -> print dialog change in Calc with respect to Writer, Impress,
Draw, ... and is able to choose among selected sheets, cells or all and
then all pages or only some of them. When you pdf export there are not
that useful capabilities...

Or am I loosing something?

What is the problem? Native pdf export my maintain some formatting or
features of the source document (like URL, PDF Forms, ...) that you may
loose also cutting a pdf.

What do you think about? Is there some extensions to do this and/or are
we planning to integrate something like this in the Calc pdf export dialog?

Have All a sunny day,

[libreoffice-users] LibreOffice 5.1.1.3 Writer new bug?

2016-03-04 Thread Carlo Strata

Hi Everyone,

I get a strange behaviour with the new 5.1.1.3 LibreOffice Win_x64 on
Microsoft Windows 10, x64, daily updated build 1511, ita gui.

I get it with this little sequence:
- copy this raw in a new Writer document:
  conoscenza dei processi -> semplificazione -> riduzione dei costi;
- move the cursor in front of the first "->" (like this "->|", if "|" is
the cursor);

- press space key on the keyboard;
- you will get (I get):
  conoscenza dei processi -> semplificazione -> semplificazione ->
riduzione dei costi;
  with the first two arrows correctly auto-corrected with the right
arrow character (but with a duplicate string: twice " -> semplificazione");

- if you repeat the behaviour with the third fake arrow ("->") you will get:
  conoscenza dei processi -> semplificazione -> semplificazione ->
semplificazione -> riduzione dei costi;
  with all four arrows correctly auto-corrected with the right arrow
character (but with a triplicate string: three times " -> semplificazione").

Am I the only one?

In my setup There is also a translation of -> to a rightarrow. I have no idea
if this was standard or that I had added it myself.

The strange thing is that in another document, an Impress presentation that I was makeing,
when I entered -> followed by a space, it was translated to "→ semplificazione
→" so the wrong translation got remembered. However this was not reflected in the
Autocorrect Options.

So there really seems to be something fishy here. After restarting LO
everything is back to normal, however.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Re: Calc: PDF export vs. print to a PDF printer

2016-03-06 Thread Carlo Strata

Hi Frank,

I will try to explain better:
1. suppose we have a *multi-sheet* Calc document (ods file);
2. when you go to print preview, you see only the current sheet (print
preview) and the page numbers are consequently assigned;
3.1. if you have *to print* (on paper or on a pdf printer) *only some
pages* of the *current* (selected) sheet, in the *print dialog window*
you can choose the sheet and than (and also!) the page range (that is
*coherent* with the print preview one!);
3.2. if you have *to export* natively the pdf of only some pages of the
current sheet *you have to* (you ought to), after having seen the print
preview, select the associated area, go to file menu -> Export in PDF...
and and then choose selected area in the *Export to PDF dialog window*
(as you, Frank, have just pointed out).

I hope to have explained better the trouble.

What do you think?

Carlo

p.s. My systems are:
1. _hp notebook_
- Microsoft Windows 10, 64 bit, build 1511, ita gui, daily updated;
- LibreOffice 5.1.1.3 (is not a typo, but the RC3 of the upcoming
5.1.1), Win_x64;

-- custom install -> full Optional Components selected;
-- Italian help installed;

2. _assembled middle tower pc_
- debian stretch, AMD64, daily updated, kernel 4.3.5 SMP;
- distro native LibreOffice 5.0.x uninstalled and purged;
- vanilla (TDF) LibreOffice 5.1.1.3, deb, x86-64;

[libreoffice-users] [LibreOffice 6.0.0.3] SVG export filter bug and suggested fix

2018-02-08 Thread Carlo Strata

Hi Everyone,

I'm using the LibreOffice vanilla (x64 deb) on Debian 9 stretch:
/Versione: 6.0.0.3//
//Build ID: 64a0f66915f38c6217de274f0aa8e15618924765//
//Thread CPU: 4; SO: Linux 4.9; Resa interfaccia: predefinito; VCL: gtk2; //
//Versione locale: it-IT (it_IT.UTF-8); Calc: group/

Exporting a Draw images (odg file) in SVG format, I see a perfect
export, but a little text position error on the second line in a two
line vertical oriented TextShape! I see it both opening the svg with
specific software/viewer (Eye of GNOME (eog) 3.20.5 or Inkscape 0.92.1
r15371) and reimporting it in the same LibreOffice version on a Writer
native document.

In manually fixing the correct text position, I see that the second line
good coordinate can be computed from the bad ones with the simple
following rules.

From the wrong XML we can define:

deltaX = x2bad - x1
deltaY = y2bad - y1

the good one seems to be corrected by computing these calculus:

x2good = x1 - deltaY   // minus and the delta of the other variable
y2good = y1 + deltaX   // plus and the delta of the other variable

It seems that the C/C++ code of the new svg filter is very good with
respect to the 5.4.x one, but that in some case (multi-line vertical
text shape) the second (and the following?) line position coordinates
are computed with the delta swapped (and in one case added instead of
subtracted).

In the p.s. you can find the good and bad portions of the SVG code.

Can I file the bug? Is it already known? Could you replicate the
behaviour? May my solution be useful for the fix?

Have a nice eventing,

Carlo

[bug] Re: [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice 7.3.3.2 Windows 64 bit seems not detect AdoptOpenJdk JRE Windows 64 bit runtime

2022-05-04 Thread carlo . strata

Hi Everyone,

I have just tried again:
Edizione Windows 10 Pro Education
Versione 21H2
Data installazione: ‎21/‎02/‎2022
Build sistema operativo 19044.1682
Esperienza Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4170.0

LibreOffice 7.2.5.2 x86_64 windows
--> correctly detects C:\Program Files\Semeru\jre-11.0.15.10-openj9bin

after unistalling it and installing
LibreOffice 7.3.3.2 x86_64 Windows (without and with Local italian help
installed)
--> doesn't (!) detect C:\Program
Files\Semeru\jre-11.0.15.10-openj9\bin

Have I to file e bug? Can someone confirm the situation before I create
the bug?

Have a nice peaceful day,

Carlo

Re: [libreoffice-users] LO pptx-file cannot be opened in MS-Office

2024-04-30 Thread Carlo Strata
Hi Everyone!

EPS is a vector file format, so if you want to preserve the maths quality you
have to save the EPS file as SVG de facto open vector file format (and
container too), not the PNG one because is a bitmap file format!

Some suggestions follow.

If you are using Windows you have to install Ghostscript to enable Inkscape to
import EPS file. However, this is not enough because the Ghostscript installer
(at the moment for the 10.x version) only put in the search system path its
"bin" subdirectory. So you have to edit the system wide PATH variable and also
add (not change!) the full path to the "lib" Ghostscript subdirectory (it's
similar to the bin, but with "lib" instead of "bin")..

If you are using PortableApps you have only to install Inkscape and Ghostscript
to import EPS correctly, without setting any additional thing.

If you are using Linux you have only to install Inkscape and Ghostscript. If
you are using flatpak may be the same with "vanilina"/native (apt, ...) Linux.

In any case in my experience with UN Italian Agenda 2030 sdg icon pack,
LibreOffice doesn't import very well vector EPS files (they appear to be dotted
and dirty) but perfectly import the Inkscape SVG exported ones at the top level
vector quality!!!

Last but not least, I think UN have to use only open file formats also when he
speaks about Sustainability!!!

Have all a nice day,

Carlo, from Venice

Hi Everyone,

I have installed LibreOffice 3.4.5 RC1 on two Windows XP (win32 build)
PCs and in one more Linux notebook with Linux x86-64 rpm
LibreOffice build.

He reworked the Windows installer for
LO-3.4.5. It

is possible that he broke the pre-registration, so the cache is not
created and the first start is slower and more visible.

No, I did not rework the installer for 3.4.5, reworked installer is a
new feature of 3.5.0. It would be better to file a bug.

Best regards,
Andras

Fine, thanks: so I will do asap.

Now, I'm doing some more tests: in the last Windows XP, Pro (!), 32
bit, SP3, updated, Ita GUIed, in which there was an old OpenOffice.org
2.4.0 installation (which, of course, I uninstall before installing LO
3.4.5 RC1), all goes well and the first run after LibreOffice
installation make LibreOffice itself appear. My previous Windows XP
installation were in Home version with already installed LibreOffice
3.3.2 (which, of course, I uninstall too before installing LO 3.4.5 RC1).

This last case, compared and integrated with previous ones, seems to
be somewhat interesting so I'll surely describe it in the incoming new
bug.

Have a sunny day,

Carlo

Have I to add it to 3.4 most annoying ones?

These are some examples to download the eps files (the italian ones are
that I test):

https://unric.org/it/wp-content/uploads/sites/3/2019/11/icone-sdg.zip

Once you have unzipped the file you have to navigate in the

icone-sdg/SDG_icons_IT/SDG_Icons_eps

directory.

(the Official Italian Agenda 2030 home page from which I download the
infographics is:

https://unric.org/it/agenda-2030/)

Thank you very much,

a) vector format --> EPS

b) bitmap format --> JPEG (425 x 425 pixels, 70 kbyte average file

What's the question?

The question are two:

1) in total and full coherence with Agenda 2030 values themselves (at
least 1, 4, 8, 10 and 17), format have to be open (I mean SVG and

to UN itself? We are doing that in next days...

2) LibreOffice (7.3.3.2 both Windows and Linux versions) doesn't
correctly opens that EPS images, it shows only an image placeholder
in which it writes that the file are built from Adobe Illustrator(R)
22.0... (UN: :-( ); I simply open them with Inkscape and save them in
SVG format (and to a 3445 x 3445 pixels PNG file only 4 times file
size larger than 64 times pixels smaller JPEG). The results seem
perfect! Are LibreOffice EPS import filter improvable or bug affected?

What do you think about these troubles?

I think it would be helpful if you posted the URLs of the actual
downloads that cause trouble.
