what video format does k3b burn, mp4 etc. ?

The question as it stands is meaningless. K3B just burns bits. It
distinguishes between audio CDs and everything else, but that's all. If
you need to convert something to a specific video format, you need
something like ffmpeg or transcode to produce the bits. Then K3B will
happily burn them to a medium.

poc

Yes, But convert to what format so k3b can burn a Video CD/DVD ?

You probably need to create a DVD structure as an ISO file, then burn
the file to a DVD as data. Creating the ISO can be done several ways,
e.g. DeVeDe or tovid (not sure if that last has an rpm).

This is all from memory as I haven't actually created a DVD in several
years. Most modern DVD players have USB sockets so you can use pendrives
as input and avoid all the hassle, not mention saving on media costs.

poc

Devede did a very good job at burning a Video DVD.

I look into the printer setup and did not see drivers for a MFC7860DW ,
have you downloaded the drivers from Brother for that printer ?

You may try this location to find the cupswrapper-driver.rpm

http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/download_prn.html#MFC-7860DW

And be sure to watch for those SeLinux error that popup , fix selinux
errors as they pop up or you won't get your printer to work. It is not
wise to disable SeLinux. Fedora 15 makes it real easy to fix the SeLinux
errors.

The Unlocking of Widgets and Screwing up the the whole Desktop and Panel

I have every day a new Linux User calling me up and saying My Panel or
Desktop is messed up again. telling them be sure the Widgets are Locked
, this is getting old, when I know I keep my own Widgets lock, but they
 still keep getting unlocked.
Has it happened to you personally...or is this being reported to you by
others? I ask this since I've been running KDE from the 3.X release up
until now with 4.6. I even run with my widgets unlocked. I can't
recall, clearly, as single instance where my desktop or panel got
messed up. I want to say this happened once when I booted with a
different screen resolution than normal...but that may have been a
 Windows system.

 Is this issue reliably reproduced?

I have never experience this in kde-3.

As to why this happening in KDE4.6 it seems to happen after rebooting
and or updating.

It is a Major problem and upsetting a lot of new users.

Thanks for your help Ed

You like doing things the hard way. He said this was only the first

 something like:

 sed -e s@^[0-9]*[ ]*@@ input.file output.file

This not only removes the line numbers, but the spaces after them as
well. If what shows up as spaces in the posting are really tabs, a
 small change is required:

 sed -e s@^[0-9]*\t@@ input.file output.file

This also has the advantage of only removing the first tab, and
leaving all the other formatting the same. The first version will
remove all the spaces after the number until it hits a non-space
character. That would probably mess up any indentation in the script.

the src), but I haven't tried the latter one. Thanks.

The latter one is the debug rpm. If there's a debug rpm, and a source
rpm, there should be an installable rpm there as well. Keep looking.

I believe that the needed packages to support the RT3070 are in the
 rpmfusion-free repository.

I had done this back in F11 to get the RT2860 workingbut it was a
long time ago. It did work fine I just decided not to use the wireless
 card on my desktop system.

I am sure someone else will know the details. But, generally the step
 should be

 1. Enable the rpmfusion-free repo

 2. Install kmod-rt3070 which will pull in the dependencies for the
 kernel you're running.

Just open it with Impress and instead of starting a slide show, go to
the slide of interest, select the graphic you want to save, right
 click and save as picture.

 I hope this helps.

It automatically starts as a Slide Show , how does one stop the slide show ?

Is the file extension PPT or PPS? PPS are supposed to go straight into
 presentation mode, PPT is not.

If that's the problem just rename it. Also, I'm not sure what the OO
behavior is, but you could open Impress first then File-Open the
file. Maybe that way it will not go into presentation mode.

I have downloaded the driver CJLZ600LE-CUPS-1.0-1(1).TAR.gz and
extracted it three time thinking it was a bad download.
z600cups-1.0-1.gz.sh

Could it be a conflict with F14 being a older file.

They are a lexmark set of drivers. You need to look for the following RPMS:

 z600cups
 z600llpddk

 I have some old versions 1.0-1 and 2.0-1 respectively (from 2003). I've

Eric That's what someone mentioned might be the issue with my Acer

I manually found it. What I was doing was googling on my desktop
machine, copying the found rpm to a USB stick, plugging that into my
notebook, and trying the rpm command.
Yum update isn't an option with no working network.

Eric it? Also, did you report the bug?

I don't know that there's necessarily a bug involved. The problem is
that yum update will update the kernel, but as I had to use this
procedure to install the driver in the first place (no network, so i
cound't use yum - catch 22), yum might not be
looking for the broadcom driver in the first place.

Perhaps I could NOW try a yum install (with an option to force install
already installed packages), and that would future-proof me until next
 time I install from scratch.
On Drivers that need to be updated with the kernel may not happen when
kernel is updated , and the next time around when you do a yum update
they get updated.

I assume you do have the rpmfusion.rpms installed ?

 That's too late. Since it's a notebook, I re-boot it nearly every time I
want to use it. So when it re-boots, there will be no functioning
 network in such a situation.

james I assume you do have the rpmfusion.rpms installed ?

I assume so too. I haven't checked recently.

Does your ethernet eth0 (wired connection) connect after booting ?

The kmod-wl is a wireless adapter driver and comes from rpmfusion.org
after you install the: Run command in terminal as user below. That is if
your ethernet eth0 connection is connecting.

Copy and Paste the complete command below into terminal.

su -c 'yum localinstall --nogpgcheck
http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm

http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm'

There is no wired connection. If there were I wouldn't have a problem.

 eth0 is the wireless.
This is the first time I have ever heard of a laptop without a ethernet
(wired connection)

Then the only way you have left is to use another computer with a USB
stick to get the kmod-wl and it's dependencies
from http://rpmfusion.org to install the driver.

Any other way your looking at a Dependency Hell.

Terminal beep also includes audible notifications from programs such as
nedit and mozilla, e.g. search term not found. Affected terminals are xterm
and the console; I haven't experimented with others. What I'm looking for is
the sound issued by that piezoelectric thing half the population hates- I
don't want it from HDA (which doesn't seem to work either, but I'm ok with
 that part).

Are you sure that the terminal you usually use isn’t trying to use
modern sound hardware if it’s available (so we can have MP3 ringtone
 beeps instead of 1970s beeps)?

*Which* terminal, anyway? There are at least seven I can think of.
It's not exclusively a terminal thing (noted above), although that's what
it's historically associated with. Sorry for the ambiguity.

James (who turns all the beeps off).
Anyway, the trouble is this: the beeps work as expected until snd-hda-intel
is loaded. Then they're irrevocably gone, recoverable only by a reboot.
I've tried mixers and beep_mode adjustments to no avail.

Milhaus (who turns all beeps on).
Is there a possibility that you have Two sound drivers trying to load ?

It happens in Linux, then you have to Blacklist one.
