This is sad. I would just about wager that the media you received or

protected your info. Just follow the directions from Apache and you should

Hi, team.
When building a formula in Excel, the tool tip does not go BOLD, as you type,
unlike Microsoft's Excel.
May I suggest that this could be developed in a newer version?
Examples below:

point open them both up at the same time.
There are tabs for them at the bottom so I can have one open book and one
inactive book. Both load into the spreadsheet when I open the active roster
file, and a tab for each displays at the bottom of the spreadsheet. If I try to
close only the inactive roster tab, or book, both close simultaneously.

When I try to export the spreadsheet as a PDF and I point to the Active book it
prints the Inactive book to PDF. I can't seem to separate them, and I can't
seem to export the active roster book to PDF. Only the inactive roster book
exports to PDF but it takes the file name of the active roster.
In other words, when I try to export the top, open book to PDF, Open Office
reaches around to the back, grabs the inactive book, exports that one, and
gives it the name of the active book that is on top
I sent the files to a club member who happens to work for Oracle. He downloaded
your most recent Open Office and found it does the same thing.

Android?

2021-04-29 Thread Steve
How about a Open Office that works on an Andriod tablet?

My windows RT tablet (2013 Surface) is dead by design. No upgrades/updates
available, even for the browser, which is pretty much not supported by any
websites anymore, andit no longer powers up. (the browser tha MS installed
is the only browser option, as MS never approved another for the Surface.
No browsers (including the "latest and greatest" by MS) will download or
install.

I've used Open Office on my laptops and work desktops since 2000. I like
Open Office much more than MS WORD.

Question for Tech Support

2020-07-11 Thread Steve Marder
Dear Tech Support,

I am a new user of OpenOffice, having become increasing frustrated with
Microsoft Word (for the Mac) over the years. As such, I am still very much in
the learning stage but what I’ve seen so far of your program I like very much.
One thing I haven’t been able to work out, though, assuming it exists in
OpenOffice, is how to do a split screen in the text processor. I would’ve
expected to find this in the “View” menu or on the vertical scroll bar, but
haven’t found it. Am I looking for something that isn’t there or is there a way
to split the screen when entering text into a document? TIA.

Regards,

Besides, Ctrl+e, for instance appears as a shortcut for text alignement, so

Ayse,

One way of inserting special characters is to choose INSERT menu, then
select SPECIAL CHARACTER... and then choose the character you wish to
insert.

In the Help Menu (F1) under Keyboard there is a topic on assigning

OpenOffice should start and will continue to start whenever you want in the

Re: question

2016-03-30 Thread Steve Ahlers
Eli,

Open the folder that the download went to, click on the DMG image. Once it
opens drag the OpenOffice icon to the Application Folder. The other files (Read
Me and License) are for information.

To start the program open your Application Folder (if you want to have
OpenOffice in your Dashboard drag the icon from the Application Folder to the
Dashboard) and click on the icon.

If you have any further questions please respond to the
users@openoffice.apache.org address.

What are trying to do?

Are you trying to have a document print in Landscape instead of Portrait? This

Are you trying to have text in a Calc cell rotated? This is a function of Cell

Are you trying to rotate text in a Draw or Impress document? This is a function

saving spreadsheet

2016-03-01 Thread Steve Dunlap
Hello,

My father downloaded open office with success. He has a rw dvd that he uses to
save spreadsheets. The original spreadsheet was developed using microsoft
office. When he made changes using the open office calc spreadsheet and tried
to save the changes he got a message saying the revised spreadsheet could not
be saved to rw dvd.

Any suggestions of how he can save it to the rw dvd?

Re: Open Office issue

2016-02-19 Thread Steve Ahlers
Bonnie,

In order for the Users Group to help you better it's helpful to know what
Operating System (OS) you are using. Here are some general suggestions to help
you get started.

1. First make sure all Open Office programs are shut down, how you do that
depends on your OS.

2. Go to: http://www.openoffice.org/download/ click the Download button.
This will redirect to a mirror site, Source Forge, the download will start in a
few seconds, DO NOT CLICK ON ANY OTHER BUTTONS as this will possibly download
malware. After the download is complete follow the process for your OS to load
the software onto your computer.

3. Your second issue is usually due to a problem with your user profile on
your computer. It will need to be deleted, how you do that depends on your OS.

Please respond to the users group so that others will be able to help you.

Sorry for the typo on version.

I'm supposedly a better tech than that -- I've loaded OpenOffice probably a
hundred times.

This time, nothing worked. It was a fresh install of Windows-7. Restarts
didn't change the result. The error message just said wouldn't run.

NOW ( 2:30 am) it DOES work. I did delete the Files folder, and then deleted
temps (via Ccleaner) and ran CHKDSK first.

Apologies,

Perhaps changing the fourth step on:

specific instructions on opening AOO for the first time. Someone in a

Yes, understanding how Gatekeeper works is important for a Mac user to know but

Jim,

I use Apache Open Office in Yosemite with no problem.

Go to the official web site https://www.openoffice.org/ to download. This web
site will connect you to Source Forge the official repository of the DMG. It
will start the download AUTOMATICALLY.

Once the download is done open your Download folder and click on the icon for
Open Office, this will open the DMG. Follow the arrow in the window and drag
the icon into the Application folder.

Then open your Application folder, you can open Open Office from there or drag

Pasting from a web page

2014-11-30 Thread Steve Senft
Hello,

I have a calc .xls sheet that I use to keep track of my investments. I copy the
amounts from my banks web site and paste it into the cells. My preferred font
is Arial - 14, however - when I paste the data into the cells, the font changes
to Times New Roman - 10.
I've checked the Tools / options / font and even set up what appears to be a
replacement table to replace Times New Roman with Areal.  In spite of setting
this up, when I paste the data, it remains Times new Roman. I have to manually
change it to Arial 14.
I'd like whatever data I paste into the cells to remain Arial 14 - preferably
centered in the cell.

Is this possible?

Thanks - Steve

There is a way of putting the Apache Open Office icon onto your desk top but as
it has been many years since I worked with Windo$ and I always preferred a
clean desk top I don't remember how. Perhaps someone who currently uses the OS
could help you more.

Thanks Steve. That worked; however that's still a long way around. It's
shorter to go to a document in a file folder and open it from there. The
icon that was saved on my desktop when I did the upgrade to Apache is a file
folder and goes straight to the folders when I click on it and bypasses the
OpenOffice page that has the listings of everything such as: Text document,
Spreadsheet, Presentation, Open, etc. It's the Text document that I'd like
to access more quickly. Before the update, if I clicked on the icon on my
desktop, it would take me right to the table of contents page or whatever
 it's called.

I'll keep very carefully playing until something triggers what I require.

Thanks for your prompt replies and your help,

Been a while since I've used Windoz so this is from memory. Click on icon on
bottom left of screen, move pointer up to Choose program or Start program

until Apache Open Office shows up, click it and the Open Office start window

I suggest that you uninstall the German language version of Open Office

After uninstalling the German language version, go to www.openoffice.org

The Open Office website will take you to Source Forge, from which your

You need to go to the official site OpenOffice.org to download the software,
you will be redirected to SourceForge. net, the official mirror site. When you
download from the official site you do not get malware downloaded.

Before you download a clean version of the software you need to run your

The compatibility issues (a), (b), (c) and (d) are true for any proprietary
file structure, and can be seen between different versions of MS Office.

My version of Apache Open Office has spell checking and dictionaries available
in many different languages and dialects. I don't use grammar checking but I
believe extensions are available that will perform that function.

Depending on your operating system and display you should be able to view
multiple documents side by side; I can easily view two documents on my iMac and
even a third using my iPad as an auxiliary display.

I don't know enough about presentation software to address your last issue.

Open Office Writer

2014-04-12 Thread Steve La Porta

Good morning. I learning how to navigate through the tracking
changes/red-lining feature of Open Office Writer.

I am editing a long project and want to become familiar with it. I am having
two initial problems and hoping to learn solutions.

1) I went into the preferences and changed the font color for editing from the
default red to dark blue. The edits I made were shown in dark blue, however,
after re-opening the file the next day, the edits all appeared in lime green?
Do you have any suggestions for maintaining the color of choice?

2) I find the underscoring of words, phrases, and punctuations to be visually
distracting -- especially in the context of strike through edits. In short,
there are horizontal lines everywhere on the page. Is there a means of undoing
the underscore feature?

Thanks very much for your help.

Cheers,

Steve

Re: How do I open spreadsheets in the QuattroPro with extension .wb3 with open office?

2014-04-02 Thread Steve Ahlers
1) open file in quattropro, save as excel 97..., open xls file in calc, save as
ods, work with ods file in calc.

2) if you don't have quattropro, down load free trial of wordperfect office and
then proceed with step 1).

3) if you don't run windoz, create a windoz virtual machine and then proceed
with 2) and then 1).

4) go to www.zamzar.com, follow steps to convert to ods

I had several files to convert from wp and qp and use an iMac so chose to use
3). Zamzar limits the size of files that you can convert, plus I didn't want to
share confidential data with a third party. By the way windoz os is very big
and requires a dvd to write to when you down load it.

In the 4.1 beta the accessibility support has been changed and hopefully

Of course not all things currently work as we would expect, and there are
differences between using JAWS or the NVDA screen reader. For normal
users it is impossible to know if the problems we see are related to OO or
are caused by the screen reader support of the accessibility interfaces. So
where and how do we report problems?

Re: AOO on a Mac

2014-02-25 Thread Steve Ahlers
Shari,

It's easy to install AOO on OSX.  Just remember the first time running it you
will need to Right click or Control click the icon to open it and let the
OS know that it is okay to run the software.  Since AOO doesn't come from the
App store it isn't in the OS's library of okay software, this is part of OSX's
protection against malware.

I've sent you a copy of this response to you as a courtesy, please respond to

The idea here is to have a systematic way to collect information

If we can point the users to a survey like this, we can collect all
the relevant information in one place and hopefully detect the
patterns and narrow down the possible causes.

There is more I need to do on the finer details of the survey, to add
some screen shots, fix up the next, make some fields context sensitive
(only ask Windows version for Windows users, for example).

But I'd like to see if there are any top-level things I should change?
Any new additional questions, for example?

Feel free to try it out, enter some data, etc. But don't use it for

starting the survey over again when ready.

Re: AOO 4.0.1 and MacOS Mavericks?

2013-10-25 Thread Steve Ahlers
Rob,

I have down loaded Mavericks and AOO 4.0.1 and so far had no problems. The only
thing I've experienced is the same as in Mountain Lion of not wanting to open
AOO initially because it is a third party software not software coming from the
App Store. With other OSs using App Stores like Apple has been doing it would
be a great idea to make AOO available through this source, besides it would
increase the exposure for AOO without going through questionable secondary
providers who sell it and refer people here for support.

Assuming that you had your hard drive replaced:
1) I'd retrieve them from my Time Machine backup (I use an inexpensive external
