Hi Mr. Hennessy, thanks for the info. I have now downloaded and installed OO 1.1.4 and all is ok. If you are in contact with those who make the decisions at OO, I very very strongly suggest that after the Beta testing OO 2.x is made 100% compatible with Star Office (.sdw) formats. Many of us have changed from Microsoft Word to SO/OO because of compatibility problems. Should OO now demonstrate the same failings then the danger is that people will drift back - not good! Hi! I have just started using NeoOfficeJ to write a small handbook for a college. I want the handbook to be in A5 format, and I also want to be able to print 2 pages per A4. The only way I can work out how to do so, is to work in A4 landscape with 2 columns, each representing a page. But then the problem is - how to insert page numbers? Is there a way to print 2 A5 pages on the same A4 page, and also to send them like that as PDF files? or Is there a way to insert 2 page numbers in the footer of each page, without having to change the page style for each new page? I'd be very grateful for your help. Many thanks Kirsten Rowley - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I had created a neat document with a Template in Star Office which enabled tocreate Business cards. Four of them appeared at the same time on the screen, and when you had modified the top left-hand one, you just clicked on a button and all the cards changed immediately according to the last changes you'd made. I haven't found the same function with the Business cards device in Open Office, can you help? When I tried to import the document into OpenOffice, there was a mistake in the macro. Yours, STEF

I have also a recommandation : when I use OpenOffice I a have a difficulty with the repeat same format function (found in the Edit menu - 3rd choice)(in Microsoft Office it's the 'F4' function). Would it be possible to have an easy shortcut for that function because I use it a lot and I know some people who use it a lot also so it would be very appreciated. thank you
[users] Unzipping downloaded file
Thanks to all who replied. From your emails I learned that I should be using winzip or some similar file on my computer to unzip the downloaded openoffice file. I found, through using the search facility, that for some reason no such file is on my computer. Perhaps because I had to reinstall windows recently--that's why I was downloading openoffice again--the originally-installed windows unzip program was not there. So I solved my problem by going online and downloading a free program called CAM unzip. Worked perfectly. Thanks again for your guidance. Helped me get on the right track. Bert.

Unless you have a duplex printer check on Left pages and Brochure then click OK. 5. That takes you back to the Print dialog box. Click on OK. 6. Re: [users] Footer Troubles - Customizing Page Numbers
Dan Gelinske wrote: Greetings. I have a manuscript written that is set to use a template specificially for CafePress publications. My question is this - how do I take the page numbers in the footer, and make them not appear in some pages (wherever an illustration, page left blank for layout, or introductory page would be, for example) while having them display normally through the main body of the text? Here are the steps I followed to do just this in a new document, although you can modify it to fit your document. Pull up the stylist. Go to page styles, right-click on `Default', go to `Footer', add a check next to `Footer on', and click OK. Now, all pages which have the `Default' page style applied to them will have a footer. Click in the footer, go to Insert, Field, and click `Page Number'. Now all your normal pages will be numbered. Now create a new page style. I called mine `Unnumbered'. Go to `Footer', and remove the check next to `Footer on'. Now whenever you want a new page that does not have a page number, go to Insert, Manual Break, choose `Page break', and choose the style `Unnumbered'. Put some content on that page, then go to Insert, Manual Break, choose `Page break', and choose the style `Default'. Microsoft Word has a feature like this that enables one to instantly change the color of all text typed from the cursor from that point on by simply clicking the color one wants. You don't have to highlight text to change color, although it is an option. I apologize if this feature is already present (if so, please inform me on how to use it), but I have noticed that when I have to type documents quickly (taking notes at a lecture, for example), I simply don't have time to change text color by highlighting it, then choosing the color. So what OOo does is uses Stylist. The problem with this of course is two fold. First, if you used to using word then stylist is a mystery. and second it requires a little forward planning. So before you need it. Open a new text document, Open stylist if you haven't already (F11 is the normal keyboard shortcut) dock it to whichever side suits you best (I usually make it a little narrower because I have it open all the time ) open the character stylist (The page icon with the A on it) right click on default and click new on the dropdown that appears. In the character style window give you new style a name . (I usually name according to the main style feature I'm using in this style: so for instance if I wanted red text I would call it something like _text red. I put the underscore there because it puts it at the top of the list. Just makes it easier to find quickly later.) Click on the font effects tab and change the colour to whatever suits: say light red in our example. You can change font and bold and italic etc to while you're at it. Of course you can do this as many times as you like so you can have different styles for different notes. Save the blank document as a writer template. Now when you attend lectures simply open that template and when you want to change the style of what you're typing simply double click the appropriate style in stylist. You'll suddenly find it's actually faster and much more versatile than word because you can have multiple dramatically different styles all available with a simple double click of your mouse. Dear Sirs, I use OOo on a Linux OS. I want to reeeques a featurre addition to your fine product. It is a customizable file list possibly put under Options/Preferences. As it is now when we use the product and want to open a recently used file we are only able to see tge kast 4 files we used and there have been times when I have needed to have at least 6 or nmore available to work effectively. I was able to find the workaround which required me to add some lines to the Common.xcu file but that was very difficult to find the original work around and then to find the actual file that I needed to change. There are 4 files on my innstallation by the same name but different pathways. All in all it has taken me probably 6..5 hours or more just to try to change that one aspect of the product. And as of now I have no idea where to find the workaround because you have changed your website around so much I could not find it again after hunting for over a half hour. Anyway, if at all possible it would be very helpful to the user to be able to adjust the recently used file numbers based on their particular needs and it would be appreciated if it could be added to the product Optio9ns list.
