Use File Save as and select the appropriate save format from the

how to insert page numbers?

Is there a way to print 2 A5 pages on the same A4 page, and also to
send them like that as PDF files?

or

Is there a way to insert 2 page numbers in the footer of each page,
without having to change the page style for each new page?

I'd be very grateful for your help.

Four of them appeared at the same time on the screen, and when you had modified the top left-hand one, you just clicked on a button and all the cards changed immediately according to the last changes you'd made.
I haven't found the same function with the Business cards device in Open Office, can you help?
When I tried to import the document into OpenOffice, there was a mistake in the macro.

2005-07-16 Thread Bert Woodruff
Thanks to all who replied. From your emails I learned that I should be using
winzip or some similar file on my computer to unzip the downloaded openoffice
file. I found, through using the search facility, that for some reason no such
file is on my computer. Perhaps because I had to reinstall windows
recently--that's why I was downloading openoffice again--the
originally-installed windows unzip program was not there.

So I solved my problem by going online and downloading a free program called
CAM unzip. Worked perfectly.

Thanks again for your guidance. Helped me get on the right track.

Hi Gareth,
OOo and StarOffice does indeed support StarOffice 5 formats. However (as
someone else mention) SuSE's version of OOo does not have this ancient
support. Please consider using the newer XML based file formats as some of
the newer features in OOo may only be available for files saved in these

Also you have probably missed several good responses to your questions as you

Hi Raymond

Please do *not* start a new question by replying to an old one as this causes
several problems:
1) most email software will correctly think that your email is a response to
the email you are replying to, and will indicate this by displaying your
email as a child of the original email
2) because of this, people not interested in the original email may ignore
your question
3) people may think that the original email has a reply(yours) so that they do
not have to give it a reply
So in conclusion, more people will read your email if it looks like the start
of a new thread rather than the reply to an old one.

It seems that there is no support for WordPro at this time. However Lotus/IBM
use OpenOffice.org code and file formats in their Workplace office suite,
so they must have some type of convertor.

Some time ago, I was discussing an issue with the developers for wich

While this may sound well at first hearing (it did to me), I am very
afraid that these QA procedures are starting to backfire. There are
far too many issues outstanding than even the excellent OOo

Many of my issues have been in state NEW or STARTED for years. It
certainly doesn't inspire me to keep entering new issues.

Kirsten,
1. Set your document page size to A5 portrait and produce your
handbook. (This and the following print methodology should also deal
with your page numbering.)
2. To print, set your page size to A4 landscape (yes, landscape) in
printer properties.

3. Click on File Print Options.
4. Unless you have a duplex printer check on Left pages and Brochure
then click OK.

5. That takes you back to the Print dialog box. Click on OK.
6. When these pages have been printed put them in the printer infeed
tray again - just in the order they ended up in the outfeed.
7. This time do File Print Options Pages and check Right pages,
Reverse and Brochure

8. Click OK
9. That takes you back to the Print dialog box. Click on OK.

I think this should get you through your present problems. I rather do
this process on autopilot these days so I hope I haven't missed out
any steps.

REGARDING the order of page printing, you nay have to experiment with
that a little bit depending on how you printer handles paper e.g.
whether the paper simply goes straight through the printer or is
turned over as it is fed into the printer.

Hope that helps,

Jeff

same document in OpenOffice Writer you are not prompted for a password
and are allowed to go ahead and edit the document and resave? Also, if
you do save the document with OpenOffice, the password protection no
longer works for microsoft either. Can anyone duplicate these results,
I just made a simple document with two words in it to test this out.
This is a serious problem if we push this forward in my company as

people will be able to use OpenOffice to go into a read-only document
and edit it. Any suggestions, is this a known bug? Thank you,

Greetings.

I have a manuscript written that is set to use a template specificially for
CafePress publications. My question is this - how do I take the page numbers
in the footer, and make them not appear in some pages (wherever an
illustration, page left blank for layout, or introductory page would be, for
example) while having them display normally through the main body of the
text?

Here are the steps I followed to do just this in a new document,
although you can modify it to fit your document.

Pull up the stylist. Go to page styles, right-click on `Default', go to
`Footer', add a check next to `Footer on', and click OK. Now, all pages
which have the `Default' page style applied to them will have a footer.
Click in the footer, go to Insert, Field, and click `Page Number'. Now
all your normal pages will be numbered. Now create a new page style. I
called mine `Unnumbered'. Go to `Footer', and remove the check next to
`Footer on'. Now whenever you want a new page that does not have a page
number, go to Insert, Manual Break, choose `Page break', and choose the
style `Unnumbered'. Put some content on that page, then go to Insert,
Manual Break, choose `Page break', and choose the style `Default'.

Hmmm...it seems to me the problem you are having may not have anything
to do with Open Office.

I downloaded Open Office onto my desktop when I was connected to broadband,
setting up (with a lot of help) my computer. I use dial up at home. I'm not
sure I got it installed correctly. I still have a zipped icon on my desktop
plus another icon (unzipped) which appeared when I tried to install Open Office.

I don't get a start page. When I click on Open Office, I see a whole page of
'documents' (little boxes) with numbers under them. When I click on one of
them, I am asked what do I want to open them with.

It sounds to me like you downloaded a zipped (compressed file}. Fine. My
guess is that when you clicked on the zipped file it decompressed the
file giving you the little boxes with numbers. But that doesn't
install the program. If I am correct, there should be a file named setup
in the same directory. Click on that and the installation should start.
If you get an error message saying you need to install another program,
you can find that program on Open Office's website. Install it as above.

1. Download
2. unzip or decompress, noting where it unzipped to
3. install from that directory

I don't know how the Welcome, OpenOffice.org 1.1 ReadMe
came up on my computer a few minutes ago. I was working on my Genealogy Program
and when I closed it,your ReadMe file was open on the desktop.
I downloaded the zipped file a almost two weeks ago before I connected my
computer at home. I was only able to connect my computer up at home three days
ago, at which time I tried to install Open Office.

I may not be educated in computers enough to use OpenOffice. I certainly can't
do any programming. This ISP that I am using probably won't be good very long
because I'm getting ready to install SBC DSL in two or three days.

This has nothing to do with Open Office. This is how you install files
on Windows.

Another possibility is that you didn't download the right file. You want
the binary download for Windows. Again, look at the website for the
Windows binary.

You need a program to decompress zip archives. Try 7-zip
http://www.7-zip.org/ ( http://www.7-zip.org/ ); it is free, like
OpenOffice.org itself. Once you've installed it, you need to (in 7-zip)
go to the settings and put a check in the box that says `zip'. In fact,
put a check in the other boxes while you are at it. Then, go to where
you have saved the zip archive, right-click on it, and with 7-zip,
choose `extract here'. Now open the resulting folder, and run `setup'.
This should get you on the path to installing OpenOffice.org.

2005-07-16 Thread David Claterbaugh
When I installed Open Office I did not realize it would not be listed in the
Windows Install/Uninstall program. I have been trying to uninstall the Open
Office program and am having considerable difficulty!

It would be appreciated if someone would please offer a solution to my problem.

Thank you in advance,

There is. In the options-window for pritering.
 Go there via File|Print|Options
 or via Tools|Options|Writer|Print

thanks for the info but can you print left or right mirrored pages under
OOo Calc.
I tried and at last I had to enter for printing manually first the left
pages one by one (1;3;5;7;9;11;13; ...) and after that the right
ones in reverse order (..;12;10;8;6;4;2).
So I expected to have this pairs: 13/12; 11/10; 9/8 .. Instead I had
13/2; 11/4; 9/6 ..
So OOo Calc cannot grasp the order of printing the pages! So I have to
prearrange the left pages before printing the right.
Also the mirror margins aren't the same on both the left and right
pages. The difference is about 8 millimeters.

I hope to be useful developing this nice product.

[users] Re: [discuss] Text Color Changing in Writer

2005-07-16 Thread Zachary Barnett
Thank you very much for your help. I like this approach better than the
MS Office method. However, I have been unable to make the modified
template (i.e. _textRed) reappear in the Stylist character menu after
saving the template, closing OO Writer, then reopening it. Perhaps I am
not saving it correctly. What is the correct procedure for saving the
template so that it will always automatically appear in the stylist
character menu? (If the procedure differs any in the Windows and Linux
versions, please include both instructions, as I use both.)

Is there a way to change text color that does not involve highlighting
already-typed text? If this feature is not already available, it might
be something that could make typing multi-colored text in documents
easier. Microsoft Word has a feature like this that enables one to
instantly change the color of all text typed from the cursor from that
point on by simply clicking the color one wants. You don't have to
highlight text to change color, although it is an option. I apologize
if this feature is already present (if so, please inform me on how to
use it), but I have noticed that when I have to type documents quickly
(taking notes at a lecture, for example), I simply don't have time to
change text color by highlighting it, then choosing the color. But it
is not a problem to simply mouse over to the color panel, click the
color I want, then keep typing in the new color.

Hi Zachary,
What you're asking for is a workaround not a feature. :)

OOo is not word and never will be thank heavens

What you have to remember is that OOo is designed to do large documents
so formatting on the fly as you're suggesting is a recipe for disaster.
So what OOo does is uses Stylist. The problem with this of course is
two fold.
First, if you used to using word then stylist is a mystery.
and second it requires a little forward planning.

So before you need it. Open a new text document, Open stylist if you
haven't already (F11 is the normal keyboard shortcut) dock it to
whichever side suits you best (I usually make it a little narrower
because I have it open all the time ) open the character stylist (The
page icon with the A on it) right click on default and click
new on the dropdown that appears. In the character style window
give you new style a name .
(I usually name according to the main style feature I'm using in this
style: so for instance if I wanted red text I would call it something
like _text red. I put the underscore there because it puts it at the
top of the list. Just makes it easier to find quickly later.)
Click on the font effects tab and change the colour to whatever suits:
say light red in our example. You can change font and bold and italic
etc to while you're at it.
Of course you can do this as many times as you like so you can have
different styles for different notes.
Save the blank document as a writer template.

Now when you attend lectures simply open that template and when you
want to change the style of what you're typing simply double click the
appropriate style in stylist. You'll suddenly find it's actually faster
and much more versatile than word because you can have multiple
dramatically different styles all available with a simple double click
of your mouse.

[users] Request new feature for OOo Project.....

2005-07-16 Thread Whit Hansell

Dear Sirs,
I use OOo on a Linux OS. I want to reeeques a featurre addition to your
fine product.

It is a customizable file list possibly put under
Options/Preferences. As it is now when we use the product and want to
open a recently used file we are only able to see tge kast 4 files we
used and there have been times when I have needed to have at least 6 or
nmore available to work effectively. I was able to find the
workaround which required me to add some lines to the Common.xcu file
but that was very difficult to find the original work around and then to
find the actual file that I needed to change. There are 4 files on my
innstallation by the same name but different pathways. All in all it
has taken me probably 6..5 hours or more just to try to change that one
aspect of the product. And as of now I have no idea where to find the
workaround because you have changed your website around so much I could
not find it again after hunting for over a half hour.

Anyway, if at all possible it would be very helpful to the user to be
able to adjust the recently used file numbers based on their particular
needs and it would be appreciated if it could be added to the product
Optio9ns list.

Thank you very much for all the work that you do. It is very much
appreciated.

Re: [users] Un-install

It should be listed in the add/remove programs. Try reinstalling openoffice
and see if you can remove it. If that doesn't work, try removing the folder
from program files.

[users] Edit a template

2005-07-16 Thread Joe Marks
On a WindowsXP machine with 1.9.113 a letter template
was created by using the letter Wizard.

When File - New - Templates and Documents is
selected, and My Templates folder is opened, the
template is there. Clicking on the template and
clicking on the Edit button causes the screen to be
blank and the cursor goes back into the Untitled1
window. Am I doing something wrong or is there a bug
in the software? (How is a template eddited?)
