[ovirt-users] excessively long log in time

2015-11-12 Thread Jeb Baxley
Hey Everyone,

I'm using FreeIPA with Ovirt 3.6 and I'm seeing some really long login
times. I know it's not my IPA servers, as login times are farily quick for
the servers that are attached to the domain.

I can even do a kinit very quickly on all of the ovirt nodes. So any
ideas? Where can I find logs about IPA logins for ovirt?

Re: [ovirt-users] upgrade to oVirt 3.6 and compabitibility 3.6

2015-11-12 Thread Paul Groeneweg | Pazion
I just tested adding a Centos 6.6 and Centos 7 host on a oVirt Cluster and
it is not possible:

Not possible to mix RHEL 6.x and 7.x hosts in one cluster. Tried adding
RHEL - 6 - 7.el6.centos.12.3 host to a cluster with RHEL - 7 -
1.1503.el7.centos.2.8 hosts.

Using the same data storage for multiple Clusters seems possible.

Thanks for all the help today,

Regards,
Paul

[ovirt-users] upgrade to oVirt 3.6 and compabitibility 3.6

2015-11-12 Thread Paul Groeneweg | Pazion
I have finished the upgrade to 3.6.
I received a lot (every 3 seconds ) of the following messages in the
logs after upgrading the hosts:

vdsm jsonrpc.JsonRpcServer ERROR Internal server error#012Traceback (most
recent call last):#012 File
"/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/yajsonrpc/__init__.py", line 501, in

self._fixupRet(className, methodName, ret)#012 File

 self._typeFixup('return', retType, result)#012 File
"/usr/share/vdsm/rpc/Bridge.py", line 215, in _typeFixup#012if k in
item:#012TypeError: argument of type 'NoneType' is not iterable

I restarted ovirt-ha-agent ovirt-ha-broker and vdsmd.
After I rebooted all hosts ( migrating VMS from one to another ) the
message finally disappeared.

Then I tried to set compatibility Version to 3.6, but without luck. I have
put hosted engine back in global maintenance, but I can't find out why it
fails. The message says "Error while executing action: Cannot change
Cluster Compatibility Version to higher version when there are active Hosts
with lower version.
-Please move Hosts with lower version to maintenance first."

I have installed ovirt-release36 on hosted engine and hosts.
I have updated hosted engine with engine-setup.
I ran yum update on all hosts.
What do I need to do to set compatibility version to 3.6?

And how can I enable repository for hosted engine? ( through WEB UI change
is not saved ).

Best Regards,
Paul Groeneweg

Please check the software tab in the host panel for each of your host, if
the upgrade has been performed you should see something like 'VDSM
Version: vdsm-4.17.10.1-0.el7.centos', if vdsm is still at 4.16.z that host
is still on 3.5.

Actually you attach a storage domain to a Data Center object, not to a
Cluster object.
I hope that two different clusters inside the same datacenter can consume
the same storage domains concurrently, isn't it?

That looks like the issue...

I am running Centos 6 and I read

Is it possible to build the packages form source or is my only option
upgrading to Centos7?

Can I have a mix of Centos 6 and 7 in my DC/Cluster? ( otherwise I need to
upgrade/migrate all VMS? )

Hosted-engine-setup will ask you about automatic execution of engine setup
on the engine VM. You have just to respond no at that question.

Anyone tested mixed el6 and el7 cluster on 3.5.5 or 3.6 ?

But you still have problems?

Do you have on the host an interface 'ovirtmgmt'?

What do you see in the web admin? mark the host -> Network Interfaces ->
Setup host networks.

If the storage relies on the network (likely), perhaps first fix network
issues, then storage.

If you do not find there 'ovirtmgmt', not sure.

You can check also /var/log/ovirt-hosted-engine-setup on the host,
as well as normal system log (/var/log/syslog or messages or whatever).

Perhaps. Some file sharing site or something.

If you start from a clean machine, it should do all.

If you start from a machine which already has an interface 'ovirtmgmt'
but has problems, iiuc the script will not fix them.

You can have a mix of EL6 and EL7 hosts with 3.5 cluster compatibility in
place.
But you have to notice that you can do live migrations in direction EL6 -->
EL7 but not the reverse.
SO you have to care about this for your migration strategy.
Probably bettere to update at least two hosts to EL7 before beginning to
place critical VMs on them.

I used AAA, specificaly the aaa-ldap-setup script. it went very quickly
and the login check and the search check went very quickly - less than a
second.

the engine ( the ovirt installation that manages the ovirt nodes) can
resolve itself. I just did a nslookup and it pulls from the IPA DNS.

Re: [ovirt-users] [RFI] oVirt 3.6 Planning

2015-11-12 Thread s k
Ideally the metric should be in milliseconds instead of percentage (as shown in
VMware vCenter performance charts) to represent the actual time that the VM
waits until the CPU resources as allocated.

It would be great if it was added to Engine Reports as well.

Even a CLI script to convert percentage to ms would be sufficient in order to
use the metric in external tools (e.g. for alerting).

it should correspond to CPU steal time as reported by the host kernel
we do not report it up to the engine
It would be fairly trivial to add, however the interpretation of this value may
be tricky

You are right, I confused Cluster with DC entity.
I created another Cluster within the same DC and it has access to the same

Re: [ovirt-users] upgrade to oVirt 3.6 and compabitibility 3.6

2015-11-12 Thread Paul Groeneweg | Pazion
Hi Dan,

I followed the described procedure:

1. put hosted engine in global maintenance
2. yum updated engine-setup
3. ran engine-setup and did updgrade
4. Next day ( all running fine ) I started update of the hosts with yum
update.
5. I did not put host to maintenance.
6. As soon as yum updated/finished the errors started
7. I tried to restart services, ovirt-ha-agent, ovirt-ha-broker, vdsm no
luck.
8. I put a host to maintenance and restarted machine ( did this for all
hosts )
9. On the last host the hosted engine refused to migrate, the error was
something, HA filter no available host. ( I noticed the score was 0 with
hosted-engine )
10. I put hosted engine to global maintenance and powered off the hosted
engine and rebooted the final host.
11. I put hosted engine back online and it restarted.
12. Error was gone.

I did had old meta data ID entries in my hosted-engine listing, these are
now also cleaned, maybe it had to do something with these?

I send the log file of one of the hosts to your email.

Let me know if you want more info.

( issue with compatibility version is clear, I need to upgrade EL6 to EL7 )

[ovirt-users] vdsm using 100% CPU, rapidly filling logs with _handle_event messages

2015-11-12 Thread Robert Story
I'm running oVirt 3.5.x with a hosted engine. This morning I noticed that 2
of my 5 hosts were showing 99-100% cpu usage. Logging in to them, vdsmd
seemed to be the culprit, and it was filling the log file with these
messages:

VM Channels Listener::DEBUG::2015-11-12

I googled to see how to change the debug level to turn of DEBUG messages
for vdsm, which referred me to libvirtd.conf, but the debug level there was
not set, which should have meant a log level of 3 (warnings and errors), so
I'm not sure why the log was filling up with DEBUG/INFO messages.

I restarted vdsmd, which resulted in those nodes being marked as
'disconnected', but they did eventually recover and loads went back to
normal.

This may or may not be related to the fact that the 3 hosts where this did
not happen can't seem to keep their ha brokers up. I'll be starting a new
thread on that shortly.

[ovirt-users] _initialize_sanlock cannot get lock, host already holds lock on a different host id

2015-11-12 Thread Robert Story
I'm running oVirt 3.5.x with a hosted engine. On 3 of my 5 nodes,
ovirt-ha-agent won't start, complaining that "(_initialize_sanlock) cannot
get lock on host id 5: host already holds lock on a different host id."

Running 'grep host_id /etc/ovirt-hosted-engine/hosted-engine.conf' on each
host shows that they all have different unique ids, 1-5.

How can I debug this? Is there a command I can run to see which host holds a
sanlock for each id?

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the pointers. If it comes up again, I'll try this patch and

[ovirt-users] changing the mtu on bridge devices

2015-11-12 Thread Gary Lloyd
Hi we have upgraded to ovirt 3.5.5 and it seems to have gone well. However
when we initially configured one of our clusters (back in the day of ovirt
3.2) we forgot to adjust two of our vm guest bridges that we use for iscsi
traffic to an mtu of 9000.

We have around 50 or so vms using these bridges and we cant change the mtu
on the data center screen due to the vms being attached to the bridges
(This message comes up trying to change it).

We were able to easily override the settings on the hosts in prior versions
of ovirt (but I don't remember where we did it). Our current 3.4 cluster is
fine, but I am now setting up a 3.5 cluster with new servers.
I don't see how changing it to 9000 will cause us any problems due to the
fact that our older clusters are running those bridges at 9000 anyway.

Also has anyone experienced the new ui not being as responsive when showing
the state of vm migrations (doesn't seem to refresh very well on the hosts
screen).

Does anyone know if there a way I can force the value to mtu 9000 in the
database somewhere without blowing it up ?

Cheers

*Gary Lloyd*

[ovirt-users] Crate brick button gray out.

2015-11-12 Thread Iosif Radu
Hi guys,

brand new with ovirt. I'm trying to use it to manage my gluster set-up.
For testing purpose I've installed 3 Centos 7 machines, one for the engine
and the other two as glusterfs nodes.
All machines are using the 3.6 repo version. Both nodes have an extra hard
disk to be used by gluster.

Everything went smotth, I activated and installed the nodes and I have no
errors in engine.log or in deploy logs.

My understanding was that I can create bricks and use them to create
volumes in ovirt.

The extra hard disks I have for nodes are formated as xfs and mounted. I
can see them in the engine admin interface but the "create brick" button is
grayed out.

Thanks.

[ovirt-users] Upgrade path from Fedora 20 oVirt 3.5 to Fedora 22 oVirt 3.6

2015-11-12 Thread David Marzal Canovas

Hi Sandro, thanks for the tips.

After a few problems, I think everything is working OK.

I already had an image of my server so I tried the path that you
suggested and this is what I found:

yum install http://resources.ovirt.org/pub/yum-repo/ovirt-release36.rpm
fedup --network 22 --product=server

This show a warning but the upgrade is successful :

WARNING: potential problems with upgrade
 ovirt-engine-backend-3.5.4.2-1.fc20.noarch (no replacement) requires
vdsm-jsonrpc-java-1.0.15-1.fc20.noarch (replaced by
vdsm-jsonrpc-java-1.1.5-1.fc22.noarch)
  ovirt-engine-3.5.4.2-1.fc20.noarch (no replacement) requires
1:java-1.7.0-openjdk-1.7.0.79-2.5.5.0.fc20.x86_64 (replaced by
1:java-1.8.0-openjdk-1.8.0.65-3.b17.fc22.x86_64)

Continue with the upgrade at your own risk.

After reboot the system is upgraded but perl is broken due to some
packages not being up to date. This can be fixed with (after allowing
dnf in the firewall )

dnf distro-sync --setopt=deltarpm=0

Upgrade the DB and change the configuration (ovirt 3.6 needs lc_messages
= 'en_US.UTF-8' )

postgresql-setup --upgrade
vim /var/lib/pgsql/data/postgresql.conf

/var/lib/pgsql/data/pg_hba.conf

Check the rest of configuration files

rpmconf -a

Then check the services because nfs has some bug and dies on startup
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1192501
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1178720

systemctl status postgresql.service nfs

until you execute

systemctl enable nfs-server.service

And now we finally can upgrade oVirt

engine-setup

It will show a warning about versionlock:

DNF Failed loading plugin: versionlock

But it would upgrade oVirt correctly.

At my first attempt I don't have any problem with the

fedup --network 22 --product=server

but I didn't modify all the necessary files and fix the nfs so at one
pont y restore the image of the server and start over.
In the second attempt (the next day) the command complaint about
ovirt-release35-006-1

Downloading failed: El paquete ovirt-release35-006-1.noarch.rpm no está
firmado (is not signed)

I had to remove this package and the files on /etc/yum.repos.d to be
able to upgrade Fedora to 22

yum remove ovirt-release35
rm /etc/yum.repos.d/ovirt-3.5*

I also test before trying to use fedup to just yum upgrade the system
but end with the same error so finally I delete ovirt-release35 and
could continue with the process described.

I hope this is useful if someone needs to upgrade their systems.
And thanks for an incredible product. :)

Just to clarify, this isn't about a vm. The engine VM is up and I'm not
having issues with any other vms. The problem is with the ovirt-ha-agent.

You are nearly right. GlusterD did start too early. GlusterD is
configured to start after network.target. But network.target in
systemd only guarantees that the network management stack is up; it
doesn't guarantee that the network devices have been configured and
are usable (Ref [1]). This means that when GlusterD starts, the
network is still not up and hence GlusterD will fail to resolve
bricks.

While we could start GlusterD after network-online.target, it would
break GlusterFS mounts configured in /etc/fstab with _netdev option.
Systemd automatically schedules _netdev mounts to be done after
network-online.target. (Ref [1] network-online.target). This could
allow the GlusterFS mounts to be done before GlusterD is up, causing
them to fail. This can be done using systemd-220 [2] which introduced
support for `x-systemd.requires` option for fstab, which can be used
to order mounts after specific services, but is not possible with el7
which has systemd-208.

Half-day brainstorm and everything is ok:

delete from vm_device where type='hostdev' and vm_id='aaa--ccc...';
