Re: [ovirt-users] 10Gb Networking with OVN

Beau, have you solved your performance problem already?

Would you share what is the MTU you have set on the underlying network, and
in your VMs?

Please verify that the expected interface is used. The automatic
configuration uses ovirtmgmt to transport the data.
This can be changed manually by executing

vdsm-tool ovn-config IP_OF_OVN_CENTRAL IP_OF_LOCAL_INTERFACE

on the host.

Are you using NICs which supports GENEVE offloading?

Re: [ovirt-users] Some major problems after 4.2 upgrade, could really use some assistance

2018-01-11 Thread Darrell Budic
Were you running gluster under you shared storage? If so, you probably need to
setup ganesha nfs yourself.

If not, check your ha-agent logs and make sure it’s mounting the storage
properly and check for errors. Good luck!

2018-01-11 Thread Jayme
This is becoming critical for me, does anyone have any ideas or
recommendations on what I can do to recover access to hosted VM? As of
right now I have three hosts that are fully updated, they have the 4.2 repo
and a full yum update was performed on them, there are no new updates to
apply. The hosted engine had updates as well as a full and complete
engine-setup, but did not return after being shut down. There must be some
way I can get the engine running again? Please

I suppose is because they're started with "run once".

Happens the same also when you deploy with ansible using cloud-init. I
think with vagrant is the same.

[ovirt-users] wheel next to the up triangle in the UI

2018-01-11 Thread Nathanaël Blanchet

Hi all,

I'm using vagrant ovirt4 plugin to provision some vms, and I noticed
that a wheel is still present next to the up status of those vms. What
does that mean?

Right, gluster volume seems to be fine. May be you have a connections
issue? Could you please try to execute 'hosted-engine --connect-storage'?

Not for oVirt specifically right now. We'll blog about it once we release
additional improvements to detect if you are protected - right from oVirt
UI (in 4.2.1).

You could get it from Intel, via their microcode_ctl package. When they
release for your CPU is a different manner.

if you have recent supermicro you dont need to update the bios,
Some tests:
Crack test:

Check test:

the intel microcodes you can find here:

good luck.

Is there a HOW-To written up somewhere on this? ;)

I built the hardware from scratch myself, so I can't go off to Dell or
someone for this. So which do I need, motherboard firmware or Intel
microcode? I suppose I need to go to the motherboard manufacturer
(Supermicro) to look for updated firmware? Do I also need to look at
Intel? Is this either-or or a "both" situation? Of course I have no idea
how to reflash new firmware onto this motherboard -- I don't have DOS.

As you can see, planning I can do. Execution is more challenging ;)

No one likes downtime but I suspect this is one of those serious
vulnerabilities that you really really must be protected against.
That being said, before planning downtime, check your HW vendor for
firmware or Intel for microcode for the host first.
Without it, there's not a lot of protection anyway.
Note that there are 4 steps you need to take to be fully protected: CPU,
hypervisor, guests and guest CPU type - plan ahead!

I was afraid of that. So I will need to upgrade to at least 7.4/4.1 to
get this fixed. I'll need to find some time to do that. :(

My users don't like having downtime.. and this is a single-host system.

[ovirt-users] Persistence on oVirt-Nodes

2018-01-11 Thread FERNANDO FREDIANI

Quick questions about Nodes (in order to not hijack the other thread).

As they don't have much notion of persistence how can I:

- To have a simple configuration backup in order for, if the Operating
System disk fails I reinstall the Node, restore the config and
everything comes back up fine ? Backing up /var /etc and /root folders
would be enough or anything else ?

- If I install something custom (e.g: A Zabbix Agent) it works until the
host receives a new system/image Upgrade. Is there any way that can be
made persistent ?

- As oVirt-Nodes are images, if I install them in a SD Card or USB Stick
will be there much write to disk still ? Other than possibly the logs
and configuration changes what else could be written to disk ?

If so a Feature Request to solve this would be to mount the logs
partition in RAM as the Node boots and logrotate that. If someone needs
to keep it more time can always use rsyslog

Thanks
Fernando

Re: [ovirt-users] Non-RHEL RPMs gone after RHV-H upgrade

2018-01-11 Thread Ryan Barry
Hey Colin -

You're correct -- they will persist. However, there's only a plugin for
yum, and not bare RPM. If the packages were installed with "rpm -Uvh ...",
they won't be 'sticky'. I believe this is also part of the documentation.

If you don't remember whether you used yum or not, you can check
/var/imgbased/persisted-rpms/ to see if anything is present.

Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt Node 4.1 question, writing files to /root and RPMs

2018-01-11 Thread Ryan Barry
Next-gen node (since 4.0) doesn't have any strong notion of "persistence",
unlike previous versions of oVirt Node.

My guess would be that /exports was not moved across to the new system.

The update process for Node is essentially:

* create a new lv
* unpack the squashfs in the new RPM and put it on the LV
* Go through /var, /etc, and /root to see if any files were modified/added,
and copy those to the new layer
* Add a new bootloader entry
* Re-install any persistent RPMs

I would guess that /exports as not on its own partition, so it didn't carry
across. Mounting the LV for the old image somewhere (/tmp/...) will make
them visible again,

I haven't tried to build on EL for a long time, but the easiest way to
modify may simply be to unpack the squashfs, chroot inside of it, and

Re: [ovirt-users] oVirt Node 4.1.8 -> 4.2 upgrade

2018-01-11 Thread Ryan Barry
Note that, in the case of Node, the ovirt-release RPM should not be
installed. Mostly because it automatically enables a number of per-package
updates (such as vdsm) instead of installing a single image.

Trimming the repo files so they look like what is shipped in Node
(IgnorePkgs and OnlyPkgs) will pull ovirt-node-ng-image-update.rpm, which
is the only package needing an update.

Subject: [ovirt-users] Ovirt 4.2 Bug with Permissons on the Vm Portal?

Hello Guys,

i recently upgrade to 4.2

We used the User Portal before. Every User could see his VM´s, every Admin just
could see his VM´s ( User View ).

After the Update:

Admin´s can see every VM in VM Portal

The Users can´t see Vm´s anymore. The Portal is Empty. Role "UserVMManager" is
set.

We tested some Scenarios: If the User create a new Virtual Machine, it is shown
in the VM Portal. When he log out and in again -> VM is gone in his View

Admin View: The VM was created, Permission where set. Everything seems to be
good.

Any Ideas? Thanks Guys

You can use python SDK.

Somthing like this should work

#!/usr/bin/env python

import ovirtsdk4 as sdk

ovaddress = ""
username="admin@internal"
password="*"

connection = sdk.Connection(
  url=ovaddress,
  username=username,
  password=password,
  ca_file='ca.crt',
  insecure=True

system_service = connection.system_service()
vms_service = system_service.vms_service()
vms = vms_service.list()

for vm in vms:
vm_service = vms_service.vm_service(vm.id)
vm_service.shutdown()

[ovirt-users] Troubleshooting a self-hosted engine deployment

Hi community! We have a self-hosted engine test infra with gluster storage replica 3 arbiter 1 (oVirt 4.1). Shared storage for engine VM has a dns name "gluster-facility:/engine".DNS "gluster-facility" resolf's into 3 A records:"node-gluster205 10.77.253.205""node-gluster203 10.77.253.203""node-gluster201 10.77.253.201" (arbiter) Self-hosted engine fresh install was succesfull with path gluster-facility:/engine.But ovirt-ha-broker and ovirt-ha-agent services cant work normally. They can't manage manager VM.After manager VM down it can not be started. [root@node-gluster204 ~]# hosted-engine --vm-status --== Host 1 status ==-- conf_on_shared_storage             : TrueStatus up-to-date                  : FalseHostname                           : node-msk-gluster202.ipt.fsin.uisHost ID                            : 1Engine status                      : unknown stale-dataScore                              : 0stopped                            : TrueLocal maintenance                  : Falsecrc32                              : 3ac98fe3local_conf_timestamp               : 342471Host timestamp                     : 342470Extra metadata (valid at timestamp):        metadata_parse_version=1        metadata_feature_version=1        timestamp=342470 (Mon Dec  4 15:03:57 2017)        host-id=1        score=0        vm_conf_refresh_time=342471 (Mon Dec  4 15:03:57 2017)        conf_on_shared_storage=True        maintenance=False        state=AgentStopped        stopped=True broker.log says Thread-712::INFO::2018-01-11 11:29:30,629::listener::134::ovirt_hosted_engine_ha.broker.listener.ConnectionHandler::(setup) Connection establishedThread-712::INFO::2018-01-11 11:29:30,630::listener::186::ovirt_hosted_engine_ha.broker.listener.ConnectionHandler::(handle) Connection closedThread-700::INFO::2018-01-11 11:29:30,634::mem_free::50::mem_free.MemFree::(action) memFree: 30999Thread-697::ERROR::2018-01-11 11:29:33,270::listener::192::ovirt_hosted_engine_ha.broker.listener.ConnectionHandler::(handle) Error handling request, data: 'set-storage-domain VdsmBackend hosted-engine.lockspace=7B22696D6167655F75756964223A202239323836376633652D373366312D346264382D393536332D35393661656566356461663C202270617468223A206E756C6C2C2022766F6C756D655F75756964223A202231336235613464302D646432362D343931632D623563302D353632386235366263336135227D sp_uuid=---- dom_type=glusterfs hosted-engine.metadata=7B22696D6167655F75756964223A202233643034323833362D663935332D346662372D626634322D35643534663262333835222C202270617468223A206E756C6C2C2022766F6C756D655F75756964223A202231313134633364642D303236342D343035392D393664312D623635633034623533396165227D sd_uuid=03da57d7-c5a2-4998-916a-f4f71baa4831'Traceback (most recent call last):  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/ovirt_hosted_engine_ha/broker/listener.py", line 166, in handle    data)  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/ovirt_hosted_engine_ha/broker/listener.py", line 299, in _dispatch    .set_storage_domain(client, sd_type, **options)  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/ovirt_hosted_engine_ha/broker/storage_broker.py", line 66, in set_storage_domain    self._backends[client].connect()  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/ovirt_hosted_engine_ha/lib/storage_backends.py", line 409, in connect    raise RuntimeError(response.message)RuntimeError: Volume does not exist: (u'13b5a4d0-dd26-491c-b5c0-5628b56bc3a5',) vdsm.log says a4d0-dd26-491c-b5c0-5628b56bc3a5', allowIllegal=False) from=::1,44266, task_id=fab6382f-8337-45e4-8eb8-1dbf79fe8c1d (api:46)2018-01-11 11:31:53,050+0300 INFO  (jsonrpc/6) [vdsm.api] START repoStats(options=None) from=::1,44262, task_id=68a37242-a84d-4372-804e-57e416d4c3de (api:46)2018-01-11 11:31:53,050+0300 INFO  (jsonrpc/6) [vdsm.api] FINISH repoStats return={} from=::1,44262, task_id=68a37242-a84d-4372-804e-57e416d4c3de (api:52)2018-01-11 11:31:53,065+0300 INFO  (jsonrpc/4) [vdsm.api] FINISH prepareImage error=Volume does not exist: (u'13b5a4d0-dd26-491c-b5c0-5628b56bc3a5',) from=::1,44266, task_id=fab6382f-8337-45e4-8eb8-1dbf79fe8c1d (api:50)2018-01-11 11:31:53,066+0300 ERROR (jsonrpc/4) [storage.TaskManager.Task] (Task='fab6382f-8337-45e4-8eb8-1dbf79fe8c1d') Unexpected error (task:872)Traceback (most recent call last):  File "/usr/share/vdsm/storage/task.py", line 879, in _run    return fn(*args, **kargs)  File "", line 2, in prepareImage  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/vdsm/common/api.py", line 48, in method    ret = func(*args, **kwargs)  File "/usr/share/vdsm/storage/hsm.py", line 3135, in prepareImage    raise se.VolumeDoesNotExist(leafUUID)VolumeDoesNotExist: Volume does not exist: (u'13b5a4d0-dd26-491c-b5c0-5628b56bc3a5',)2018-01-11 11:31:53,066+0300 INFO  (jsonrpc/4) [storage.TaskManager.Task] (Task='fab6382f-8337-45e4-8eb8-1dbf79fe8c1d') aborting: Task is aborted: "Volume does not exist: (u'13b5a4d0-dd26-491c-b5c0-5628b56bc3a5',)" - code 201 (task:1177)2018-01-11 11:31:53,066+0300 ERROR (jsonrpc/4) [storage.Dispatcher]

Hi,

you hit one known issue we already have fixes for (4.1 hosts with 4.2
engine):
https://gerrit.ovirt.org/#/q/status:open+project:ovirt-hosted-engine-ha+branch:v2.1.z+topic:ovf_42_for_41

You can try hotfixing it by upgrading hosted engine packages to 4.2 or
applying the patches manually and installing python-lxml.

I am not sure what happened to your other VM.

Best regards

[ovirt-users] Some major problems after 4.2 upgrade, could really use some assistance

2018-01-11 Thread Jayme
I performed Ovirt 4.2 upgrade on a 3 host cluster with NFS shared storage.
The shared storage is mounted from one of the hosts.

I upgraded the hosted engine first, downloading the 4.2 rpm, doing a yum
update then engine setup which seemed to complete successfully, at the end
it powered down the hosted VM but it never came back up. I was unable to
start it.

I proceeded to upgrade the three hosts, ovirt 4.2 rpm and a full yum
update. I also rebooted each of the three hosts.

After some time the hosts did come back and almost all of the VMs are
running again and seem to be working ok with the exception of two:

1. The hosted VM still will not start, I've tried everything I can think of.

2. A VM that I know existed is not running and does not appear to exist, I
have no idea where it is or how to start it.

1. Hosted engine

>From one of the hosts I get a weird error trying to start it:

# hosted-engine --vm-start
Command VM.getStats with args {'vmID':
'4013c829-c9d7-4b72-90d5-6fe58137504c'} failed:
(code=1, message=Virtual machine does not exist: {'vmId':
u'4013c829-c9d7-4b72-90d5-6fe58137504c'})

>From the two other hosts I do not get the same error as above, sometimes it
appears to start but --vm-status shows errors such as: Engine status
: {"reason": "failed liveliness check", "health": "bad",
"vm": "up", "detail": "Up"}

Seeing these errors in syslog:

Jan 11 01:06:30 host0 libvirtd: 2018-01-11 05:06:30.473+: 1910: error :
qemuOpenFileAs:3183 : Failed to open file
'/var/run/vdsm/storage/248f46f0-d793-4581-9810-c9d965e2f286/c2dde892-f978-4dfc-a421-c8e04cf387f9/23aa0a66-fa6c-4967-a1e5-fbe47c0cd705':
No such file or directory

Jan 11 01:06:30 host0 libvirtd: 2018-01-11 05:06:30.473+: 1910: error :
qemuDomainStorageOpenStat:11492 : cannot stat file
'/var/run/vdsm/storage/248f46f0-d793-4581-9810-c9d965e2f286/c2dde892-f978-4dfc-a421-c8e04cf387f9/23aa0a66-fa6c-4967-a1e5-fbe47c0cd705':
Bad file descriptor

2. Missing VM. virsh -r list on each host does not show the VM at all. I
know it existed and is important. The log on one of the hosts even shows
that it started it recently then stopped in 10 or so minutes later:

Jan 10 18:47:17 host3 systemd-machined: New machine qemu-9-Berna.
Jan 10 18:47:17 host3 systemd: Started Virtual Machine qemu-9-Berna.
Jan 10 18:47:17 host3 systemd: Starting Virtual Machine qemu-9-Berna.
Jan 10 18:54:45 host3 systemd-machined: Machine qemu-9-Berna terminated.

How can I find out the status of the "Berna" VM and get it running again?

Thanks so much!
