Hi Lionel,

Sorry for the delay in replying you.

If it's possible from your side, syncing the data and destroying old disk
sounds about right.

In addition, it seems like you're having this bug:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1509629
And it was fixed for version 4.1.9. and above.

Hello, I apologize for bringing this one up again, but does anybody know if
there is a change to recover a storage domain, that cannot be activated?

Thank you,

Hi all,

I managed to get the inactive storage domain to maintenance by stopping all
running VMs that were using it, but I am still not able to activate it.

Trying to activate results in the following events:

For each host:
VDSM command GetVGInfoVDS failed: Volume Group does not exist:
(u'vg_uuid: 813oRe-64r8-mloU-k9G2-LFsS-dXSG-hpN4kf',)

And finally:
VDSM command ActivateStorageDomainVDS failed: Storage domain does not exist:
(u'b83c159c-4ad6-4613-ba16-bab95ccd10c0',)

Is there anything I can do to recover this storage domain?

Thank you and all the best,
Simone

Hi,

we are still struggling getting a storage domain online again. We tried to
put the storage domain in maintenance mode, that led to "Failed to update OVF
disks 809cc8d7-7687-46cf-a342-3be48674a9b3, OVF data isn't updated on those OVF
stores".

Trying again with ignoring OVF update failures put the storage domain in
"preparing for maintenance". We see the following message on all hosts: "Error
releasing host id 26 for domain b83c159c-4ad6-4613-ba16-bab95ccd10c0
(monitor:578)".

Querying the storage domain using vdsm-client on the SPM resulted in
# vdsm-client StorageDomain getInfo
"storagedomainID"="b83c159c-4ad6-4613-ba16-bab95ccd10c0"
vdsm-client: Command StorageDomain.getInfo with args {'storagedomainID':
'b83c159c-4ad6-4613-ba16-bab95ccd10c0'} failed:
(code=358, message=Storage domain does not exist:
(u'b83c159c-4ad6-4613-ba16-bab95ccd10c0',))

Any ideas?

Thank you and all the best,
Simone

Betreff: [ovirt-users] Cannot activate storage domain

Hi all,

we run a small oVirt installation that we also use for automated testing
(automatically creating, dropping vms).

We got an inactive FC storage domain that we cannot activate any more. We see
several events at that time starting with:

VM perftest-c17 is down with error. Exit message: Unable to get volume size for
domain b83c159c-4ad6-4613-ba16-bab95ccd10c0 volume
686376c1-4be1-44c3-89a3-0a8addc8fdf2.

Trying to activate the strorage domain results in the following alert event for
each host:

VDSM command GetVGInfoVDS failed: Volume Group does not exist:
(u'vg_uuid: 813oRe-64r8-mloU-k9G2-LFsS-dXSG-hpN4kf',)

And after those messages from all hosts we get:

VDSM command ActivateStorageDomainVDS failed: Storage domain does not exist:
(u'b83c159c-4ad6-4613-ba16-bab95ccd10c0',)
Failed to activate Storage Domain VMHOST_LUN_205 (Data Center Production) by

Invalid status on Data Center Production. Setting status to Non Responsive.
Storage Pool Manager runs on Host vmhost003.fabagl.fabasoft.com (Address:
vmhost003.fabagl.fabasoft.com), Data Center Production.

Checking the hosts with multipath -ll we see the LUN without errors.

We run oVirt 4.2.1 on CentOS 7.4. Hosts are CentOS 7.4 hosts with oVirt
installed using oVirt engine.
Hosts are connected to about 30 FC LUNs (8 TB each) on two all-flash storage
arrays.

Thank you,
Simone Bruckner

[ovirt-users] The timezone in the guest differs from configuration (Windows)

My windows VMs have this error, but the time zones are setup correctly.

In engine, the VM shows: "Hardware Clock Time Offset: Pacific Standard Time"
In Windows, doesn't matter if I leave the time zone automatic or manually
set it to Pacific Standard Time.

How do I fix this?

Hello,
I need to create user accounts in oVirt that can only manage a specific set
of VMs and I don't want them to see any other ones.
example:
User1 can only see VM1, VM2, VM3, VM4
User2 can only see VM5, VM6, VM7
Admin can see all of them.
How do I accomplish this?

[ovirt-users] ovirt Node 4.2.1 on 2 node : problem with ha broker and HE storage

2018-03-05 Thread Nicolas Vaye
Hello,

I'd installed oVirt Node 4.2.1 on two host, i'd deployed HE on the first, via a
storage NFS.
The administration portal seem to be OK but i can't see the HE VM, the portal
indicate there is one VM, but impossible to get it into the list of the VM.
I can't see the storage that host the HE-VM too.
Where is the problem ?

I'd added the second host into the cluster and i haven't the option to deploy
the HE into it during the "add Host" operation.
After added the second node, i can put into maintenance mode and then reinstall
with the option DEPLOY for HE but the result is :
"Cannot edit Host. You are using an unmanaged hosted engine VM. Please add the
first storage domain in order to start the hosted engine import process."

The logs for the first node indicate this error (very often, every ~ 30sec)
below :

ovirt-ha-broker ovirt_hosted_engine_ha.broker.status_broker.StatusBroker.Update
ERROR Failed to read state. Traceback (most recent call last): File

With this problem, i can't move the HE vm on the second host. so there is no HA.

Thanks.

The skipped part above is the most interesting one that may enable us to
investigate the error, can you share it? it would be best to file a bug [1]
and add the full log as an attachment (that can be made private if needed,
btw).

I've never used it, but https://www.bareos.org/ could be a good product.
It isn't specific for VMs, but it can help.

Re: [ovirt-users] Open source backup!

2018-03-05 Thread Niyazi Elvan
Hi,

If you are looking for VM image backup, you may have a look at Open Bacchus
https://github.com/openbacchus/bacchus

Bacchus is backing up VMs using the oVirt python api and final image will
reside on the Export domain (which is an NFS share or glusterfs) in your
environment. It does not support moving the images to tapes at the moment.
You need to use another tool to stage your backups to tape.

Hope this helps.

Note that support for Skylake-Server is already in oVirt 4.2.2, once you’re
running on a hypervisor which supports that(e.g. RHEL 7.5 beta) it should work,
when you run on the exsiting 7.4 it just won’t work (the option is there
though, and we separated the generic former “Skylake” to Skylake-Client and
Skylake-Server)

Re: [ovirt-users] oVIRT 4.1 / iSCSI Multipathing

2018-03-05 Thread Sergei Hanus
Hi, Nicolas.
As long, as you are able to set up two separate iscsi sessions, which are
bount to two separate paths - multipath driver will handle the rest.
As I understand, Yaniv is talking about iscsi bonding, which is a bit more
broad sort of multipath (per description -
https://www.ovirt.org/documentation/admin-guide/chap-Storage/) - it creates
all possible paths between all possible initiators and targets within bond.
Personally, I don't think it's necessary - it's always better to control
the connections the way you described - two vlans, each vlan contains one
server NIC and one storage NIC, that's it.

 Sergei.

We'll need more details on the VM configuration. I assume you are using raw

What are you using the measure the performance?

Re: [ovirt-users] Any Kind of Storage IO Limitation?

2018-03-05 Thread Thomas Fecke
Hey Yaniv,

thanks in advance

ethtool eno2 | grep Speed

always brings up 10.000. So i tought there is maybe a config File in ovirt that
change it or something.

Or will it use the OS information direct?

Im not sure why the VM´s are getting slow. But when I run an Monitor tool to
check the Bandwith it never excet 1000. Maybe he just don’t need more for the
Copy Job

I have no explanation

fact ist – when I deploy the same Template about 10-15 Times they are getting
rly slow.

The RAM and CPU is morgen then 70% Free.

Ill tried to Stress the Storage a bit.

Opened nload and created some VM´s, created Templates, created Pools and and and

An I was wrong:

Max: 8.09 GBit/s

I can life with that. The Performance issues sees to be Gone for now. Maybe it
was just the 4.2 Upgrade. I have no idea

But everything seems to work fine. Sorry for wasting your tim e

But, when I copy some VM´s, Templates or do something Stroage related in Ovirt

Is there any kind of “Config Limitation”?

My biggest Problem:

We work a lot with Templates. When I deploy 10 VM´s based on one Template the

Please verify all your hosts, and especially the SPM, are connected with 10g

You should use CA certificate if you use default one it's:

 /etc/pki/ovirt-engine/ca.pem

Re: [ovirt-users] oVIRT 4.1 / iSCSI Multipathing

2018-03-05 Thread Nicolas Ecarnot

Hello,

[Unusual setup]
Last week, I eventually managed to make a 4.2.1.7 oVirt work with
iscsi-multipathing on both hosts and guest, connected to a Dell
Equallogic SAN which is providing one single virtual ip - my hosts have
two dedicated NICS for iscsi, but on the same VLAN. Torture-tests showed
good resilience.

[Classical setup]
But this year, we plan to create at least two additional DCs but to
connect their hosts to a "classical" SAN, ie which provides TWO IPs on
segregated VLANs (not routed), and we'd like to use the same
iscsi-multipathing feature.

The discussion below could lead to think that oVirt needs the two iscsi
VLANs to be routed, allowing the hosts in one VLAN to access to
resources in the other.

As Vinicius explained, this is not a best practice to say the least.

Searching through the mailing list archive, I found no answer to
Vinicius' question.

May a Redhat storage and/or network expert enlighten us on these points?

Regards,

Hello,

I’ve skipped this message entirely yesterday. So this is per
design? Because the best practices of iSCSI MPIO, as far as I
know, recommends two completely separate paths. If this can’t be
achieved with oVirt what’s the point of running MPIO?

With regular storage it is quite easy to achieve using 'iSCSI bonding'.
I think the Dell storage is a bit different and requires some more
investigation - or experience with it.

 Y.

Yaniv, thank you for answering this. I’m really hoping that a solution
would be found.

Actually I’m not running anything from DELL. My storage system is
FreeNAS which is pretty standard and, as far as I know, iSCSI
practices dictates segregate networks for proper working.

All other major virtualization products supports iSCSI this way:
vSphere, XenServer and Hyper-V. So I was really surprised that oVirt
(and even RHV, I requested a trial yesterday) does not implement ISCSI
with the well know best practices.

There’s a picture of the architecture that I take from Google when
searching for ”mpio best practives”:
https://image.slidesharecdn.com/2010-12-06-midwest-reg-vmug-101206110506-phpapp01/95/nextgeneration-best-practices-for-vmware-and-storage-15-728.jpg?cb=1296301640

Ans as you can see it’s segregated networks on a machine reaching the
same target.

In my case, my datacenter has five Hypervisor Machines, with two NICs
dedicated for iSCSI. Both NICs connect to different converged ethernet
switches and the iStorage is connected the same way.

So it really does not make sense that a the first NIC can reach the
second NIC target. In a case of a switch failure the cluster will go
down anyway, so what’s the point of running MPIO? Right?

Thanks once again,
V.

Hi,

The ovirt engine can be run in a virtual engine. Look for "hosted engine".

What do you mean by "guests" ?
If you mean the hosts running the VMs, it is possible but not recommended.
Real hardware is the best way.

Re: [ovirt-users] Ovirt 4.2.1 Storage with Fibre Channel Protocol

2018-03-05 Thread Fred Rolland
Hi,

All hosts in the Data Center should have access to the storage.
Think of the DC as a migration domain. If one of the hosts fails and you
need to migrate the VMs to another host, the VMs disks needs to be
available in the new host.

You cannot use the same LUN in different domains.
Either ask the storage administrator to split the LUN into 3 smaller LUNs
or maybe use an NFS server for the ISO domain.

Fred

AD domain and the vm has sso enabled

Whenever I log to the user portal and open a VM I'm presented with the
login screen and nothing happens, it's like the engine doesn't send the
command to autologin.

In the agent logs there's nothing interesting but the communication
between the engine and the agent is ok: for example the command to
lock-screen on console close runs and works:

Dummy-2::INFO::2018-03-01
09:01:39,124::ovirtagentlogic::322::root::Received an external command:
lock-screen...

This is an extract from engine logs when I login in the user portal and
start a connection:

On the vdsm side I see:

So no error on the vdsm side log.

Interesting. The messages above indicate that the VM was attempted
to
migrate, but the migration got temporarily rejected on the
destination
due to the number of already running incoming migrations (the limit
is 2

incoming migrations by default). Later, Vdsm was asked to cancel the
outgoing migration and it successfully set a migration canceling
flag.

However the action was reported as an error to Engine, due to hitting
the incoming migration limit on the destination. Maybe it's a bug,
I'm
not sure, resulting in minor confusion. Normally it shouldn't
matter,
the migration should be canceled shortly after anyway and Engine
should

be informed about that.

However the migration apparently wasn't canceled here. I can't say
what
happened without complete Vdsm log. One of possible reasons is that
the
migration has been waiting on completion of another migration
outgoing
from the source (only one outgoing migration at the time is allowed
by

default). In any case it seems the migration either wasn't actually
started at all or it just started being set up and that has never
been

completely finished.

I'm attaching the log. Basically the storage backend was restarted by
fencing
and then this issue happened. This was on 26/02 at about 08:52 (log
time).

Thank you for the log, but VMs are already “migrating” at its
beginning,

there had to be some problem already earlier.

I already tried restarting ovirt-engine but it didn't work.

Here the problem is clearly on the Vdsm side.

Could someone shed some light on how to cancel the migration status
for

these
machines? All of them seem to be running on the same host.

Did the VMs get unblocked in the meantime? I can't know what's the

No, they didn't. They're still in a "Migrating" state.

actual state of the given VMs without seeing the complete Vdsm log,
so
it's difficult to give a good advice. I think that Vdsm restart on
the
given host would help BUT it's generally not a very good idea to
restart

Vdsm if any real migration, outgoing or incoming, is running on the
host. VMs that aren't actually being migrated (despite being
reported
as migrating) at all should simply return to Up state after the
restart,

but VMs with any real migration action pending might get return to Up
state without proper cleanup, resulting in a different kind of mess
or
maybe something even worse (things should improve in oVirt 4.2, but
it's

still good to avoid Vdsm restarts with migrations running).

I assume this is not a real migration as it has been in this state for
several

days. Would you advice restarting vdsm in this case then?

I'd say try it. Since nothing has changed for several days, restarting
Vdsm looks like appropriate action at this point. Just don't make a
habit of it :-).

Thanks, that made it.

Regards.

Milan

[ovirt-users] oVirt network tries to reassign my bridge address to herself

2018-03-05 Thread Anastasiya Ruzhanskaya
Hello!
I have two VM - they are machines on which I test installation. I don't
want any clusters, advanced features. My goal is two connect engine and
host, shut down everything, then turn on and have right configuration.

However my VMs are connected via bridge, and oVirt also use another bridge
to connect them. Because of this on startup I have a problem, that two
bridges are trying to assign the same address.

What can be done in this case?

I am facing the following problem with ovirt 4.2.1, out of nowhere all
virtual machines are paused and only return operals if log in via ssh on
the host and execute a "virsh destroy domain", it is necessary to
reactivate disk and network after this process. In the events I get the
following message: VM X has been paused due to storage I / O problem.

Currently I have iscsi storage configured on a server with target and based
on some test I did not identify problems of communication of the hosts to
the storage

[ovirt-users] Ovirt 4.2.1 Storage with Fibre Channel Protocol

2018-03-05 Thread Sérgio Marques
Hello,

I'm new in Ovirt, loving it, but i'm having some doubts when it comes to
add FCP Storage. I have two clusters, one called Production and the other
Development, each cluster with two nodes and i want to configure Data
Domain. My doubts are:

1 - Every nodes must have connection to de FCP? If only de SPM have it, if
it falls, who can connect to the storage?

2 - I have only one LUN in EVA HSV300 for me and i want to add three
Storage Domains (Data, ISO e Export). Is it possible? How? This is because
when i add data storage domain and choose the only LUN available it warn me
that all data is going to be lost "This operation might be unrecoverable
and destructive"

3 - Any advice about best practices about implementation?

Thanks
