[ovirt-users] CentOS Stream 8 EOL: May 31, 2024

2024-02-16 Thread Diggy Mc
It has been announced that End-of-Life for CentOS Stream 8 is May 31st, 2024.
See announcement:
https://blog.centos.org/2023/04/end-dates-are-coming-for-centos-stream-8-and-centos-linux-7/

What does this mean for the future of the hosted-engine which is still based on
CentOS Stream 8 ???

My personal vote for the next OS flavor/version for both the hosted-engine and
oVirt Node is Rocky Linux 9.

[ovirt-users] Re: Manager GUI session timeout

2022-12-22 Thread Diggy Mc
After issuing the command 'engine-config -s UserSessionTimeOutInterval=480', I
confirmed that it accepted the value by checking it ('engine-config -g
UserSessionTimeOutInterval').

However, the change did not take affect simply by logging out and then back
into the GUI. Only after restarting the oVirt engine service ('systemctl
restart ovirt-engine.service') did it take affect.

Wow! Thanks. I was unaware (newbie) of the engine-config command. I learned
a lot from just "engine-config -l". LOL.
I changed "UserSessionTimeOutInterval". Hopefully it takes effect simply by
logging out and back in. If not, I patiently wait until we restart the engine.

Again, thank you.

[ovirt-users] Switching 4.4 hosted-engine from Linux 8 to Stream 8 before upgrading to 4.5

2022-11-18 Thread Diggy Mc

It is my understanding that the 4.4 engine must be on Stream 8 before it can be
upgraded to oVirt version 4.5.

Is there an easy and reliable way to switch a 4.4 hosted-engine that is still
using oVirt's CentOS Linux 8 repositories over to oVirt's CentOS Stream 8
repositories? If yes, how? Also, what would be the rollback/recovery
procedure should the switchover fail?

In brief, our engine was originally deployed using oVirt Node 4.4.3. At
present, the engine is at version 4.4.10.7. Also, all our hosts are running
oVirt Node v4.4.10.2 and are using oVirt's CentOS Stream 8 repositories.

Any help and guidance is greatly appreciated.

It is the original certificate created during initial install/setup. If

It is not network or firewall related. There is no firewall between the oVirt

Before putting the Gen8 servers into production (as with all servers), I ran
the comprehensive HP diagnostic tests on them for 24 hours. I also ran the
intensive MemTest86 tests on them for 24 hours as well. All tests passed. I
feel safe assuming the hardware is okay.

The little information I have found on the matter suggests it is a Kernel
watchdog issue, but those articles offered no help in resolving the problem.

I am not suggesting it is an oVirt issue. I am simply hoping that someone in
the oVirt community has encountered the same problem and can offer a solution
or work-around.

[ovirt-users] Unrecoverable NMI error on HP Gen8 hosts.

2021-12-30 Thread Diggy Mc

I have oVirt Node v4.4.8.3 running on several HP ProLiant Gen8 servers. I
receive the following error under certain circumstances:
"An Unrecoverable System Error (NMI) has occurred (iLO application watchdog
timeout NMI, Service Information: 0x002B, 0x)"

When a host starts taking a load (but nowhere near a threshold), I encounter
the above iLO-logged error and the host locks-up. I have had to grossly
under-utilize my hosts to avoid this problem. I'm hoping for a better fix or
work-around.

I've had the same problem beginning with my oVirt 4.3.x hosts, so it isn't
oVirt version specific.

The little information I could find on the error wasn't helpful. Red Hat
acknowledges the issue, but limited to shutdown/reboot operations; not during
"normal" operations.

Anyone else experienced this problem? How did you fix it or work around it?
I'd like to better utilize my servers if possible.

In advance, thank you to anyone and everyone who offers help.

I too am having the exact same problem. The HE and all hosts are now at 4.4.8

because of something to do with the HE. Kind of annoying since it is the last

[ovirt-users] Re: host upgrade problems galore

2021-09-15 Thread Diggy Mc
You can now discard this thread !!!

Prior to creating this thread, I also tried to copy the networks from another
functioning host thinking that might be needed. Did not get any errors for the
copy function, but the networks were not copied.

That's when started this thread.

Since then, I said, "fck it" and decided to try something while waiting for
help.

I manually added the networks to the rebuilt host. Suddenly (and apparently
magically) it is now in Up state.

[ovirt-users] host upgrade problems galore

2021-09-15 Thread Diggy Mc
Brief background: Simple environment -- self-hosted engine and two oVirt Node
hosts all running 4.4.4. Couple NFS-based data storage domains and a few
VLAN-based networks.

Upgrading the Hosted Engine from 4.4.4 to 4.4.8 appears to have completed
successfully and without incident. I followed the published instructions. :)

Problems upgrading the oVirt Node hosts !!!

Initialized cluster upgrade. It got as far as rebooting the first host.
ERRORS. Said "vdsmd... BAD" Found journal log entry suggesting I run a vdsm
config command. Did that and rebooted. VDSM error went away and all looked
good. Unfortunately VMs started on that host now were clearly unstable. Ugh!
Unusable host.

Removed that host from the cluster. Reinstalled from scratch using the 4.4.8
ISO. All went well. Added it to the cluster and deployed the HE to it. No
Errors. Unfortunately, it is now stuck in a NonOperational state and I cannot
determine why.

Please help.

[ovirt-users] HE and Node upgrade procedures

2021-09-09 Thread Diggy Mc
Where can I find the documentation on the procedure to upgrade the Hosted
Engine as well as the oVirt Nodes? Specifically, both the HE and Nodes are
currently at 4.4.4 and I would like to upgrade to 4.4.8.3.

Also, if I remember correctly, 4.4.4 was the last version to use CentOS Linux 8
and later versions switched to CentOS Stream 8. Will the upgrade procedure
automatically switch over to Stream? Is there anything I need to be aware of
or concerned with regarding the switch to Stream?

Your help and guidance is much appreciated.

[ovirt-users] Re: Unable to export VM from data storage domain.

2021-08-31 Thread Diggy Mc
I believe I have significantly relevant information to help isolate the problem
and I do believe it is a bug.

First, I previously said that "all exported VMs" were affected. That is
incorrect and therefore misleading. I apologize.

The problem at hand appears to have to do with preallocated vs thin
provisioning of disks.

Again, I am running oVirt 4.4.4 at the moment.

All VMs that only have preallocated disks have the problem. When they were
exported, the disk profile remained the original profile from the source data
domain. Thus, the error "Cannot add VM. Cannot find a disk profile defined on
storage domain" when trying to re-export them back the other direction.

VMs that have only thin provisioned disks or a combination of both types do NOT
have the problem. When exported, all disks get the disk profile from the
destination domain. Re-exporting them back the other direction works.

Please let me know if I correctly identified a bug. More importantly, please
let me know if it has been fixed since 4.4.4 and what I can do in the mean
time. I really need to "restore" one of my VMs that is stuck in limbo because
of the incorrect disk profile.

Your prompt response is greatly appreciated.

[ovirt-users] Unable to export VM from data storage domain.

2021-08-22 Thread Diggy Mc
I'm running oVirt 4.4.4 with two data storage domains. One domain is where the
production VMs run. The second domain is where I make backup copies of the VMs
in the event of problems with the main production VMs. I make backups using
the export option from the GUI's dropdown list.

I just now tried to "restore" a backup copy via the export function and get an
error. In fact, I get errors trying to export (import to my original data
domain) any of the VMs that were exported to my backup data domain. My backup
domain is a DATA domain and not an EXPORT domain.

The exact error is:
  Export VM Failed
[Cannot add VM. Cannot find a disk profile defined on storage domain
246c69e9-6f16-489f-8022-8613f6c1c22a.]

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? Help is needed urgently. In

[ovirt-users] Moving VMs from 4.3.9 to 4.4.4

2020-12-25 Thread Diggy Mc

What is the best way to move VMs from current 4.3.9 to a new 4.4.4. environment?

The current environment is running oVirt 4.3.9 (started as 4.3.7). There is a
single data domain using NFS on a single NAS.

The future oVirt 4.4.4 environment will also have a single data domain using
NFS on the same NAS as the current environment.

What is the best way to move approximately 40 VMs from current 4.3.9 to a new
4.4.4. environment?

Are there any caveats or considerations I need to take into account when moving
the VMs?

What standard Zabbix monitoring templates do you recommend for the HE? What

Are there any known issues with running the Zabbix agent on either the Hosted
Engine (4.3.8) or oVirt Nodes (4.3.8) ??? I'd like to install the agent while
not crashing my hosting environment.
