[ovirt-users] Re: CentOS 7.7 has been released: note it's not supported for oVirt 4.2

2019-09-19 Thread Logan Kuhn
Are there any specific incompatibilities between oVirt 4.2 and CentOS 7.7 or is
it simply untested and won't be tested?

The only one listed for that VM. I have powered it all the way off, tried
to delete the snapshot, same error message as I sent earlier. This VM also
isn't stateless

Re: [ovirt-users] Unable to change cluster compatibility version

2017-11-08 Thread Logan Kuhn
Apparently it's previewing some type of snapshot. I don't want to commit
it because it was created in March, but the error I get when I try to
delete it is:
Cannot remove Snapshot. The operation is only allowed for regular snapshots.

[ovirt-users] Unable to change cluster compatibility version

2017-11-07 Thread Logan Kuhn
Hi

We've recently upgraded from 4.0.6.3 to 4.1.6 and we've upgraded all of our
clusters except one to 4.1 without issue. The one we are having trouble
with is the big important one (of course).

The error we get in the interface is:
Error while executing action:

Cannot change cluster version since following VMs are previewing snapshots:
mail-archive1

The log error is a little verbose seeming, so it's attached. I'm not
really sure what it means or how to fix it

[ovirt-users] VM running on multiple hosts

2017-09-20 Thread Logan Kuhn
We had an incident where a VM hosts' disk filled up, the VMs all went
unknown in the web console, but were fully functional if you were to login
or use the services of one. We couldn't migrate them so we powered them
down on that host and powered them up and let ovirt choose the host for it,
same as always. However the disk image on a few of them were corrupted
because once we fixed the host with the full disk, it still thought it
should be running the VM. Which promptly corrupted the disk, the error
seems to be this in the logs:

2017-09-19 21:59:11,058 INFO
 [org.ovirt.engine.core.vdsbroker.monitoring.VmAnalyzer]
(DefaultQuartzScheduler3) [36c806f6] VM
'70cf75c7-0fc2-4bbe-958e-7d0095f70960'(testhub) is running in db and not
running on VDS 'ef6dc2a3-af6e-4e00-aa4
0-493b31263417'(vm-int7)

We upgraded to 4.1.6 from 4.0.6 earlier in the day, I don't really think
it's anything more than coincidence, but it's worrying enough to send to
the community.

It hangs with no output.

We managed to get it working by manually changing it to global maintenance

database.

That is another odd aspect about this. The ovirt-engine service is up as
is the httpd and ovirt-engine-dwhd services.

Any ideas on how to fix it?

So that sounds like the host isn't able to communicate properly with the
HEVM. The cluster is still in global maintenance, but the HEVM still
thinks that it isn't because the database says it isn't in global
maintenance.

2017-03-20 Thread Logan Kuhn
Yup, ovirttest1 ran out of disk space on Friday, we recovered it and
everything seemed completely normal.

the postgres service is down on the HEVM, but that is because it's on our
postgresql cluster, has been for weeks. I can connect to it's database
from within the HEVM using the credentials stored at
/etc/ovirt-engine/engine.conf.d/10-setup-database.conf I can tail the logs
on the postgres master and ovirt can and does connect to it.

However, trying from ovirttest1 I cannot connect to the engine database
using those same credentails, should I be able to? It'd make sense to be
able to connect to it

infiniband networks doesn't seem to work because infiniband doesn't handle
bridging well.

I read through that and it makes sense. It also said that moving the

Re: [ovirt-users] posix compliant fs with ceph rbd

2017-01-25 Thread Logan Kuhn
We prefer Ceph too and we've got our ovirt instance configured in two
different ways.

1. Openstack Cinder, each VM's disk will have a single volume in ceph with
all volumes being under the same pool.
2. Export an RBD via NFS from a gateway machine, this can be a trivially
small physical or virtual machine that just exports the NFS share that is
pointed at whatever RBD you choose to use.

Not a direct answer to your question, but hopefully it helps.

[ovirt-users] Migrate hosted engine to a new storage domain

2017-01-18 Thread Logan Kuhn
Hi

We are planning on moving to a different storage solution and I'm curious,
is there a way to migrate the hosted engine's storage domain to the new
solution? It's NFS currently and can be NFS on the new storage as well.

>From what I've read it looks like it should be possible to

   1. Take a full backup of the engine VM
   2. Deploy another hosted engine VM with hosted-engine --deploy
   3. Install/configure CentOS 7.3
   4. Deploy new engine with engine-setup
   5. Then restore the backup into the new VM.

What I'm not sure of is if that backup will contain enough of it's data to
restore to a completely different storage domain?

Also, the engine database is on a remote server, the data warehouse service
and all other aspects of the hosted engine reside on the VM.

Thanks,
Logan

[ovirt-users] Create cinder disk via python sdk

2016-12-02 Thread Logan Kuhn
Hi

As part of migrating from KVM to Ceph, I'm trying to create a Cinder disk
via the python sdk. This is what I have so far and it fails:

disk_attachment = disk_attachments_service.add(
types.DiskAttachment(
disk=types.Disk(
name = 'API_Disk_Cinder_test',
format=types.DiskFormat.RAW,
provisioned_size=12 * 2**30,

name='ovirt-cinder',
),
types.OpenStackVolumeType('cinder')
],
),
interface=types.DiskInterface.VIRTIO,

Doing it similarly with an NFS backend works so I know the connection
details are correct, so I didn't bother including them.

Re: [ovirt-users] Error during additional hosted engine deployment

2016-09-20 Thread Logan Kuhn
Sorry, I guess I skipped a bit of that.

I did run hosted-engine --deploy and it failed while waiting for vdsm to
respond and at that point I sent the original email because I wasn't quite
certain if it was a supported to migrate from non-hosted engine to a hosted
engine which seems to be possible now (thanks for that link). What I had done
was leave that engine in place, try to install the hosted engine on a host
already part of the original non-hosted engine configuration which seems to be
a bad and somewhat futile path. It looks like the best option for me now if I
choose to go to a hosted-engine is to use the migration instructions you sent
and do that, leave it as it is or stand up a seperate cluster and start from
scratch.

In hosted-engine scenario, the engine is running on a VM hosted by one of the
hosts it's managing.
The normal procedure is to run hosted-engine-setup on the first host and it
will create a VM for you with the engine; hosted-engine-setup will also add
that host to your engine when available.

For who deployed in the past we also have a migration procedure.

Now I don't understand if you still have to try to migrate to hosted-engine or
if you tried it and something went bad.

Did you have ever tried to run 'hosted-engine --deploy' on one host?
Did it completed successfully?

[ovirt-users] No SPM and the master data domain won't come up

2016-09-06 Thread Logan Kuhn
During network testing last night I put one compute node into maintenance mode
and changed it's network from legacy to OVS, this caused issues and I changed
it back. When I changed it back SPM contention started and neither became SPM,
the logs are filled with this error message:

2016-09-06 14:43:38,720 ERROR
[org.ovirt.engine.core.vdsbroker.vdsbroker.SpmStatusVDSCommand]
(DefaultQuartzScheduler5) [] Command 'SpmStatusVDSCommand(HostName =

storagePoolId='0001-0001-0001-0001-00d8'})' execution failed:
VDSGenericException: VDSErrorException: Failed to SpmStatusVDS, error = (13,
'Sanlock resource read failure', 'Permission denied'), code = 100

I've put all but the master data domain into maitenance mode and the
permissions on it are vdsm/kvm. The permissions on the nfs share have not been
modified, but I re-exported the share anyway, the share can be seen on the
compute node and I can even mount it on that compute node, as can vdsm:

nfs-server:/rbd/it/ovirt-nfs 293G 111G 183G 38%
/rhev/data-center/mnt/nfs-server:_rbd_it_ovirt-nfs

I'm not really sure where to go beyond this point..

| missed (assuming Cinder and Ceph are configured correctly).

| Go to:
| External providers -> Add
| Fill in the fields:
| Name:
| Type: OpenStack Volume
| Provider url: http://CINDER_HOST:8776
| Check "Requires Authentication"

| Fill in the information, this is an example:
| Username: admin
| Password: password
| Tenant name: admin
| Authentication URL: http://CINDER-HOST:5000/v2.0

| Test should return "Test succeeded, managed to access provider."
| Now click Ok.

| Now lets configure additional information:

| Lower pane: Authentication Keys
| Click on: New
| Fill in UUID field with rbd_secret_uuid
| and value :which is the key (it's in /etc/ceph/ceph.client.USERNAME.keyring)

| Hope this helps..

| Natalie

I'd be happy to, but how/where do I do that?

| Logan, do you mind to write a testcase in ovirt.org website for the disaster

Re: [ovirt-users] Unable to import pre-configured nfs data domain

2016-07-22 Thread Logan Kuhn
Thank you!

That does do some interesting things, but doesn't appear to work.

I've added a new storage domain, merged the differences in the metadata file
back to the old one and powered it up. When I start up the nodes they
endlessly report: VDSM ovirt-reqa1 command failed: (-226, 'Unable to read
resource owners', 'Sanlock exception')

I tried reinstalling one of them and the error message continues. At least for
now I've restored the old config and the error is gone.

Logan

|
| It's supported only in case the master domain was previously correctly
| detached from the data center.
|
| In case of an unexpected complete disaster, when a fresh engine is
| installed and used, it's still possible to recover the master domain in
| theory. You must find `metadata' file in the master domain and edit it
| for the new engine. It's completely unsupported and it may or may not

Am I correct in the assumption that importing a previously master data domain
into a fresh engine without a current master domain is supported?
