[xwiki-users] translations

2013-01-25 Thread Gerritjan Koekkoek
The XWiki instance where the community can translate the keys for XWiki
enterprise is very difficult to use.
Would it be possible to select the keys based on extensions/modules
Example:
1) If I would like to check which keys of the BLOG application are translated
in dutch? And which are still not translated?
2) Look at keys for the top-menu bar in XWiki

To look at a alphabetical list of more then 5000 key's is a bit overestimating
the stamina of potential translators

2013-01-25 Thread Ldm Public
Hello,

Personnaly I use XWiki both in english and in the targetted language to
detected which sentences need to be translated. Then I used the search
page in l10n wiki http://l10n.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/L10N/Search with the
value displayed in the EN User Interface to find the exact key to be
translated.

Regards,

This isn't quite supported yet, because of the fact that so far most of
the translations have been defined in only one file,
ApplicationResources.properties. But the new localization mechanism
allows for each module to define its own translations, in its own file,
so gradually keys will be moved out of the big file into separate
smaller modules.

However, you can still kind of search for applications from a domain,
using the advanced search [1] and specifying as the key the prefix
used by an application. For example, this [2] looks up keys from the
blog application. For the menu, multiple keys are used: core.menu.,
workspacemanager.menu.*, core.shortcuts.* for defining the shortcuts
that trigger certain actions, and the old simplistic keys login,
logout, superadmin, and core.register. The only way to find out
what kind of keys are used in a place is to look in the source of that
place, which can be a document in the wiki, or a template on the
filesystem (usually in templates/).

THis is quite good to analyze the level of translation.
But I was hoping that this link: (When logged in)
http://l10n.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/XE/XWikiCoreResources?action=viewemptylanguage=nl
would allow the advanced search filter options.
Or can I filter this by adding the same url-filter?

[xwiki-users] Translations field length

2012-03-02 Thread jerem
Hello xwiki community,

I'm playing with the new (and wonderful) xwiki 3.5, and as I'm playing I'm
adding extensions ... and values in the internationalization bundles list.

Problem is, I reached the limit, and can't add new bundles anymore because
of :

Caused by: java.sql.BatchUpdateException: Data truncation: Data too long for
column 'XWP_DOCUMENT_BUNDLES' at row 1

It seems that (MySql) this field is varchar(255). Problem is that this limit
is easily reached when you add applications (and I use it also for my own
apps ...).

Would it be possible to extend this limitation ? can I alter this

BR,
Jeremie

Sounds a good idea indeed. We could have a page by language you access
by clicking on the flags on the right for example. When you are in the
main page it goes to a page related to the whole wiki and then you can
also create a page related to each application that has the global
page as parent (the flag panel would change the link based on the
 context).

 Lets say

/L10N/TranslationRules: general rules whatever the application or language
/L10N/TranslationRules_language: general rules about the language
 language whatever the application
/APP/TranslationRules : any specific about the application APP
 whatever the language
/APP/TranslationRules_language: any specific about the application
 APP in language language

For a specific translation key you can directly comment on the
 translation page like
 http://l10n.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Wysiwyg/WysiwygStringsproperties_-541814232_imageTooltip_zh_TW

 What don't you think ?

Done. See http://l10n.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/L10N/TranslationRules

Hi,

some texts used in the login dialog are neither in
ApplicationResources_de.properties nor in ApplicationResources.properties
nor in i10n.xwiki.org. And using i10n.xwiki.org is very ugly and inefficient.
You can drink a cup of coffee after sending a request

The following text is part of the login dialog
key:remembermeonthiscomp found in i10n, ApplicationResources(de,default)
Text:Auf diesem Computer angemeldet bleiben

However, there are translated texts like Forgot your username?. Obviously
they are not used at this place.

it seems on the long run I have to check the code directly.

This is not very polite. I'd suggest you refrain yourself from criticizing too

not the way you're going to get more of the free support you've been getting

If the key you are searching is not in ApplicationResources.properties
then that's the bug and the text you are trying to translate is
probably hardcoded and does not use l10n system. You should report it

it was imported by Ludovic Dubost.

Yes that's what is explained on
 http://l10n.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/L10N/AddALanguage

Further improvements/additions I do online. Provided search was not good
enough for me, so I helped to improve it.
Actually I'd like to change it once more because for me searching by
(poorly) translated text, not the key is more usual. What do you think?

Yes good idea. I could easily do a extended search form I guess like:

 o search in translated
 o search in original
 o search in key

To solve issue that site is quite slow, it should be investigated about
caching possibilities, or import/export tool would be nice, but somebody

There is a lot of caching, if you load a page once then it's
refreshing instantly after. Now when you modify something the caches
that can be changed by the modification made are cleaned and so take
so time to reconstruct the stats tables. We could improve that by
modifying the cache instead of cleaning it but it's more work.

Hmm i never tried the search before now and indeed it's very slow i
will see if i can do something to improve it.

 needs to develop it.
Though, if so many people can live with Windows, i10n.xwiki.org is not
the worst one, which teaches us to manage our time with computer
 accordingly ;-)

The following text is part of the login dialog
 key:remembermeonthiscomp found in i10n, ApplicationResources(de,default)
 Text:Auf diesem Computer angemeldet bleiben

However, there are translated texts like Forgot your username?. Obviously
they are not used at this place.
it seems on the long run I have to check the code directly.

Currently not all labels are made to use external resources, but it is
 changing incrementally.

Re: [xwiki-users] Translations

2010-02-24 Thread adoro

Hi Stefan,

bitte nicht schimpfen, lieber mitmachen und helfen …

Please don't rant on how bad is XWiki internationalized - better help to
improve translations.
XWiki it open source peoduct, that means:
You have always free choice:

  - not to use XWiki, if you find it bad
  - to consume XWiki and be satisfied with the work of other people, which
you get for free
  - participate in the development if you will have it better.

It was a great work of many contributors to get XWiki running in different
languages. This work is not finished yet and any help is appreciated.

E.g. there are some missing translations and hard coded messages in English
– partially in javascript files from third party developers, partially in
xml files from a default set of XWiki pages (.xar-Archiv), partially in
templates.

As to your question:
In the last line of the dialog the texts are still in english Forgot
 your username or password.

This message comes from /templates/login.vm

#if($xwiki.exists(XWiki.ResetPassword))
  div style=font-size: 70%; margin-top: 2em;Forgot your
$xwiki.getURL('XWiki.ForgotUsername') username or
$xwiki.getURL('XWiki.ResetPassword') password ?/div
#end

- just translate english words in German.
Or better – create one new keyword for this message and replace it with
$msg.get (‘keyword’).

If you are not satisfied or don't agree with the meaning of some
translations in ApplicationResources_de file, you can also create your own
local page with translations inside your wiki – in this case values from
ApplicationRecourses_de will be overwritten - see “Using properties located
in XWiki pages“) -

Sounds a good idea indeed. We could have a page by language you access
by clicking on the flags on the right for example. When you are in the
main page it goes to a page related to the whole wiki and then you can
also create a page related to each application that has the global
page as parent (the flag panel would change the link based on the
context).

Lets say

/L10N/TranslationRules: general rules whatever the application or language
/L10N/TranslationRules_language: general rules about the language
language whatever the application
/APP/TranslationRules : any specific about the application APP
whatever the language
/APP/TranslationRules_language: any specific about the application
APP in language language

For a specific translation key you can directly comment on the
translation page like
http://l10n.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Wysiwyg/WysiwygStringsproperties_-541814232_imageTooltip_zh_TW

What don't you think ?

Re: [xwiki-users] Translations cannot be fetched using XML/RPC interface

2009-03-19 Thread Ari Oinas
Hi,

And thanks for your efforts regarding this issue. I found the problem which
caused my translations not to work.

I used getPage -method to get page details. Which returned translations ok.
But after that, I used renderContent method without defining content, which
resulted that function returning default language content. After I added
content to method call, translated content is returned.
So it was my fault, not Xwiki's. sorry :)

Still, some things to consider:

- should renderContent function also handle pageId so that language could be
embedded in the end of pageId? Same way as getPage handles pageId.

- getPages function returns PageSummaries with default language pageTitles.
It would be convenient to call this function with language id, so that
pagetitles would be in correct language. Now I have to loop through every
pagesummary and get page title to get correct pageTitles to show on
navigation tree.

Thanks for superb customer support!

Best regards,

Ari

Hi,

I recreated your scenario an published a basic XmlRpc proxy on this page:

Getting the wiki content of a translated page seems to work fine. Here's
how it can be used:

Page pageInfo = proxy.GetPage(token, Main.WebHome?language=fr);
String frenchContent = pageInfo.content;

The language parameter value must be a value present in the translations
array.

Notes:
- The translations array contains all available translations for that
page, except the default language of the page.
- The default language of the page is the default language of the wiki
at the moment when the page is created. If ,in time, you change the
wiki's default language, the page default language for the page will not
change.
- If you need the rendered content you will need to make another call to
this API method:

public String renderContent(String token, String space, String pageId,
String content) throws Exception;

Please let me know of your progress

Thanks,
Florin Ciubotaru

 in Windows.Forms.WebBrowser component.

I have created a space in Xwiki which holds the pages I want to show in my
application. (Space name contains spaces, is this a problem?)

I have created a page inside this space and also translated it to another
language. This page is displayed properly in Xwiki web-client. Page is
 created using Xwiki 1.0 syntax.

If I debug my program and inspect PageSummary -properties, I can see that
there is a translation called en in translations array.

 Hi,

could you tell me your exact setup?

I tried with a multilanguage wiki and a Main.WebHome translated in fr

 rpc.getPage(Main.WebHome?language=en).getContent() - English
 rpc.getPage(Main.WebHome?language=it).getContent() - Italiano
 rpc.getPage(Main.WebHome?language=fr).getContent() - Français

The available translations are accessible using the

In the previous example, this call returns [it, fr] (Maybe here we

 Let me know.

For example if I have a macro on one page, which trancludes text from

think that this feature is very hard to implement very efficiently. And
theres definitely should be possibility to turn it on or off. Maybe it
 would
require a copy of renderedContent to be stored on the database and thus
 increases database size.
 - Util class should contain function to strip HTML-tags from string.

There is much of small things that need to be fixed in Xwiki to make it
perfect, but it's a pretty good and flexible already.
I evaluated about 5 different wiki-systems before I decided to go with
Xwiki. Every wiki had some constraints which rendered them useless for my
needs, but Xwiki was the most flexible system.

Thanks for your feedback. I would be glad to know a bit more about what you
were looking for, which wikis you tried and what made you choose XWiki
rather than another system. This would help us understand better what makes
XWiki stand out and what it lacks compared with other platforms.
If you've got a little time, do you think you could tell us a bit about
that?
Many thanks in advance,
Guillaume

 Keep up the good work!

 Cheers,

 Ari

  Hi,

And thanks for your efforts regarding this issue. I found the

caused my translations not to work.

Happy that you solved your problem.

  Still, some things to consider:

  - should renderContent function also handle pageId so that language
  could be
embedded in the end of pageId? Same way as getPage handles pageId.

  - getPages function returns PageSummaries with default language
  pageTitles.
It would be convenient to call this function with language id, so that
pagetitles would be in correct language. Now I have to loop through
  every
pagesummary and get page title to get correct pageTitles to show on
  navigation tree.

Thank you for spotting these improvements.
I will open Jira issues in order to add these feature in the next
 release.

  Thanks for superb customer support!

 You are welcome.

 Fabio

This could be done using Lucene, once we start refactoring our
lucene-based search.

Re: [xwiki-users] Translations cannot be fetched using XML/RPC interface

2009-03-18 Thread Florin Ciubotaru
Hi,

I recreated your scenario an published a basic XmlRpc proxy on this page:

Getting the wiki content of a translated page seems to work fine. Here's
how it can be used:

Page pageInfo = proxy.GetPage(token, Main.WebHome?language=fr);
String frenchContent = pageInfo.content;

The language parameter value must be a value present in the translations
array.

Notes:
- The translations array contains all available translations for that
page, except the default language of the page.
- The default language of the page is the default language of the wiki
at the moment when the page is created. If ,in time, you change the
wiki's default language, the page default language for the page will not
change.
- If you need the rendered content you will need to make another call to
this API method:

public String renderContent(String token, String space, String pageId, String
content) throws Exception;

Please let me know of your progress

Thanks,
Florin Ciubotaru

 - Fetch pagesummaries, pages and attachments from Xwiki and displayed them
 in Windows.Forms.WebBrowser component.

I tried with a multilanguage wiki and a Main.WebHome translated in fr
 and it.

 rpc.getPage(Main.WebHome?language=en).getContent() - English
 rpc.getPage(Main.WebHome?language=it).getContent() - Italiano
 rpc.getPage(Main.WebHome?language=fr).getContent() - Français

The available translations are accessible using the
 Page.getTranslations()

In the previous example, this call returns [it, fr] (Maybe here we
should explicitly add also the default translation)

 Let me know.

[xwiki-users] Translations cannot be fetched using XML/RPC interface

2009-03-17 Thread Ari Oinas
Hi,

My problem is that I cannot fetch translated pages from Xwiki using XML/RPC
interface.

I have tried it like this:

xwikiInterface.getPage(iToken, Space.Page + ?language=en);

but it returns the default page.

My Xwiki-interface getPage method is defined as follows:

[XmlRpcMethod(confluence1.getPage)]

PageStruct getPage(String token, String pageId);

I'm using C# language and Visual Studio 2008 and I currently have a working
prototype of an application which fetches Xwiki-pages from remote
Xwiki-installation. But now the problem is how to get also translated pages.

Any help regarding this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards

[xwiki-users] translations

2009-01-27 Thread Sebastian Kannengiesser
Hi guys,

I chose to have our XWiki to be translated into German. The standard
setting to de does only change some portions of the Wiki. Is the
prefered way to have everything translated to manipulate all standard
templates or is there some kind of better, more stable way? What
happens if I translate stuff in the templates and update the XWiki
later on. Would they vanish again? If I go on translating the stable
and preferred way, which I hope you give me some suggestions for, I'm
willing to give you the work back, if you like, of course.

Cheers,
Sebastian
