Re: [vdr] PCI GT610 vdpau card - 512 MB or 1GB memory ?
how do you monitor video-memory consumption ? with nvidia-smi ? is there any sense to buy PCI GT610 card with 1 GB memory for processing of 1080i/p HD video ? may be 512 MB will be enough ? I plan to use vdpau decoding of HD video + temporal spatial deinterlacing + upscaling of SD video. I'm seeing around 250M total memory use while decoding and deinterlacing 1080i to a single 1080 display. Composite extension completely disabled since all it does is cause tearing and eat memory like crazy. If all you need is video playback on that system then 512M is more than plenty. ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr

Goga I see that when it finds a SI::NVODReferenceDescriptorTag it will add it to the previously found channel with channel-SetLinkChannels, but it only does if it is in the current section (channel is a local variable) while the sdt could span several sections. From the specifications here http://neuron2.net/library/mpeg2/iso13818-1.pdf and here http://www.dvb.org/technology/standards/a005r5.tm1324r13.tr101211.v1.10.1.pdf I don't understand if this mechanism is correct, shouldn't the time_shifted_services link to the NVOD_reference? Besides, I don't see that the relation between a channels and its linkchannels is preserved in channels.conf (though I don't really care). I also see that cSdtFilter starts processing with the first section, and that shouldn't really be necessary as long as one processes all sections. ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr

Re: [vdr] Advice on new motherboard, xinelibou tput, vdpau, hdmi video audio, etc.
if you disabled full gpu scaling , how upscaling will work really ? what and how will upscale SD video to 1080p ? This setting is only useful if your display device can't scale on its own or the scaling is worse quality. If you enable it the card will always output native resolution at native refresh. If disabled the gpu will not touch the mode and output whatever you tell it to, in which case the display itself will have to scale the mode as needed. let's have a look on the following situation. I have full HD TV set, which of course can upscale. TV My xorg.conf has default mode - 1080p can be 2 situation With vdr and vdr-xine I'm watching SD 576i channels and after that I switch to HD 1080i channel. Re: [vdr] Advice on new motherboard, xineliboutput, vdpau, hdmi video audio, etc.
is there really no recommendation for a board not using Nvidia graphics components? It would really be great to not depend on proprietary drivers. Hardware decoding through VA-API is working on some Intel chipsets and CPUs, but I haven't seen any usable GPU deinterlacing implementations besides those in Nvidia's VDPAU. I also would like to remind the framerate issues. Naturally you decide what is enough precision and quality for you. Computer hardware usually cannot provide 50.000Hz, 59.940Hz or 23.976Hz outputs to your TV/Monitor. This will cause some judder on display output as MPEG/AVC input-stream is not synchronized to output framerate. do you mean that all nvidia vdpau cards with existing drivers from Nvidia can't provide exact 50.000Hz, 59.940Hz or 23.976Hz ?? The old Silverstone case is for normal ATX board but I no more need PCI slots so a smaller one, even a Mini-ITX would do. Since the PC runs 24/7 I'm interested in low-power motherboards with Atom CPU. There should be VDPAU support for MPEG-2 SDTV decoding + high-quality de-interlacing. I'm watching also sometimes H.264 HDTV channels from satellite. There should be 1080p50 video + up 7.1ch multi-channel PCM audio over HDMI. I'd like to get rid of SPDIF connection to AV-receiver. My HTPC box has a home-brew LIRC receiver that connected to motherboard (Asus style) COM port heading. If COM ports are history I could change to Bluetooth remote control with a PS3 Blu-Ray remote. Therefore integrated BT support would be nice (otherwise some USB-BT dongle). WLAN is not mandatory since I stream from vdr server over gigabit ethernet. Are there still issues with some ethernet chipsets and Linux? I found some options such as Asus AT3IONT-I DELUXE, Asus AT3IONT-I, Asus AT5IONT-I. Re: [vdr] reelchannelscan rotor plugin don't compile with vdr 1.7.13
thx Goga, this at least helped to find out what is not working. I always used gotox not gotoposition. When I choose goto position, this method is working, but gotox is not. fine i didn't test goto x there one thing that's really wierd. After I changed rotor.conf like you suggested (before I had a 0 for all positions, as I used gotox), I can see that toggling the satellite list is actually working, but there's no name after it. in earlier vdr version it looked like: Position: 2 S28.2E - Astra 2D/A/B no only this is left: Position: 2 is satellite name displayed in your rotor plugin? the same as you described - no any satellite name also manual scan doesn't work Goag kind regards and thank you for you help Newsy --- Goga777 goga...@bk.ru schrieb am Sa, 27.3.2010: Von: Goga777 goga...@bk.ru Betreff: Re: [vdr] reelchannelscan rotor plugin don't compile with vdr 1.7.13 An: vdr@linuxtv.org Datum: Samstag, 27. Re: [vdr] vdr 1.7.12 - issue with some mpeg2 channels (cVideoRepacker: switching to MPEG1/2 mode)
thank you very much for your patch. Now everything is ok. I can only reproduce this issue on channels with separate PCR pid. I'll have to investigate further to find a solution. As of version 1.7.12 VDR records the PCR pid if it is different than the video PID. For lack of better knowledge I made cDevice::PlayTs() send the PCR packets to PlayTsVideo(). The FF cards don't have a problem with that, but maybe xine or the cVideoRepacker does. Maybe VDR shouldn't even replay the PCR data - please advise. As it is possible to access cPatPmtParser since a few releases, I've changed vdr-xine to pull VPID from there instead of picking it from packets passed to PlayTsVideo. -- Удачи, Игорь ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr

I just share something I read on the XBMC [1] Web site. The Broadcom Crystal HD Hardware Decoder (BCM970012) seems to be an alternative for HD playback with free drivers [2]. You can get it at as an mini-PCIE card at eBay for 22 $ [3]. I'd recommend the BCM70015, which is the better part. where is it possible to buy it ? It works as a decoder only, making YUV 4:2:2 frames available, which must then be blitted to whatever output framebuffer setup you have, over the pci express bus. The API seems very straightforward, much simpler that VDPAU, thus one could get a HW accelerated H.264 setup without X11. what about of corrected interlace output ? In the comments someone mentions this motherboard: http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/motherboards/D510MO/D510MO-overview.htm It can be passively cooled, has a pci and a mini pci-e slot, but it lacks hdmi. have a look at Intel® Desktop Board D945GSEJT http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/motherboards/D945GSEJT/D945GSEJT-overview.htm ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr

I'd recommend the BCM70015, which is the better part. It works as a decoder only, making YUV 4:2:2 frames available, which must then be blitted to whatever output framebuffer setup you have, over the pci express bus. The API seems very straightforward, much simpler that VDPAU, thus one could get a HW accelerated H.264 setup without X11. ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr
Re: [vdr] Recommendation for new hd vdr system.
The asus P5N7A-VM motherboard seems a good candidate, is its integrated 9300 graphics powerful enough for good deinterlacing? Mmmh, I hate to reply to my own message, but it seems it isn't available anywhere, at least here in Spain :-( I'm just at the same task at the moment. Vdpau enabled IGP motherboards except ION systems seem not to be available at all for some reason. Re: [vdr] rotor plugin puzzling question
I think the rotor plugin is a bit of a mess now and the latest version (1.5) is a step backwards with no transponder scan facility. A clever friend of mine has doctored the previous version to work with vdr-1.7.9, to still scan transponders and better still to scan C-band transponders. Rotor switches diseqc off it appears and VDR defaults to Ku settings so all c-band appears to be out of rangeanyone else have this problem? may the best solution - to use vdr-reelchannelscan ? nor rotor ? wrong modulation - should be everytime S1 and O35 or O25 The channels.conf was as vdr generated it, but I tried different modifications, so maybe that time I changed the modulation, but it didn't helped. read please man vdr about this parameters Believe me, I read it very often, and I had read about channels.conf parameters not in the vdr manual but on the german wiki. please try to use roll-off factor = 0,35 (as here - O35) I tried. I also installed vdr-reelchannelscan plugin, it generated a new channels.conf, but my image remanined broken, and log was full with TS continuity error. Re: [vdr] strange issue with DVB-S2 and VDPAU
After 4 yeras of SD-VDR I tried to move to HD with my VDR box. Current hardware: Asus M3N78-VM with GF9400 Athlon BE2350 TT3200 DVB-S2 Software: Ubuntu 9.04 x86 S2API drivers from linuxtv.org/hg/v4l-dvb hg xine-vdpau xine-ui cvs plain vdr-1.7.9 are you using vdr-xine plugin 093 or vdr-xineliboutput ? which version ? I'm mainly focused on S9.0E source, because I have a Conax subscription for Hello HD package (http://www.lyngsat.com/packages/hello.html) After the first install and some finetunings, FTA HD channels (M2HD, Luxe HD) worked well, what about another FTA channels from 9E - are they working fine ? but I had broken image on Hello HD channels (on SD and HD as well, all of them are in DVB-S2 Mpeg4), and log was full with TS continuity error. My channels list was generated with w_scan. you can try to scan with patched for s2api reelchannelscan vdr plugin - see my announce in this ML After a while I realized that if I let vdr to update my channel.conf, all the channels are working fine. And then came the disaster. Ubuntu said that 9.10 is available, and I choosed to upgrade. it was your fault After the upgrade I had no sound at all on my system. As I saw, many others had this problem with Ubuntu 9.10. yep After a day and a half I managed to fix the sound (compiling alsa, etc), but the TS continuity error came back on vdr. Since then I tried everything, I reinstalled the dvb drivers, xine-lib, xine-ui, I tried vdr-xine plugin and xineliboutput also, but no luck: i have broken image on Hello HD package. what about of 5 FTA channels ? I also tried to make some records from those channels without any output plugin, and I end up with 0 sized recordings (on other channels recordings are fine), so IMHO this has nothing to do with xine. I'm suspecting two things: 1. DVB drivers. 2. Incorrect channels.conf Reinstalling dvb drivers from liplianin did not help, nor various channels.conf's One more detail: I have a Kathrein UFS-910 linux receiver. I have two systems on that: the original firmware and Enigma2. If I try my Conax card in the Kathy, everything works well under E2, but in the original firmware I had the same broken image issue as with VDR. As I am stuck with this for more than a day, any help or any ideas are welcomed. show please your channels.conf try patched vdr-channelscan Goga ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr

which xineliboutput version are you using ? cvs ? any patches from here ? http://www.vdr-portal.de/board/thread.php?threadid=86804 Goga vdr 179 + xbmc vdr 1.7.8 + xinelibeoutput cvs -minus said patch. Am using the did you try vdr 179 with cvs xineliboutput ? xine-lib 1.2 vdpau branch, which I previously used to run xine with have you any difference between xine-lib 1.2 vdpau branch and xine-vdpau branch ? I'm amazed that vdr-sxfe manages to completely avoid any judder in playback, something which I haven't really seen since I ran with a ff card. did you try with local frontend ? not with vdr-sxfe There's some occasional loss of audio lipsync, and channel change is not smooth; I see both audio and video freeze for a few frames. I guess both of those are work in progress. Would any of the patches from the vdr-portal thread above help on those issues? You can try that patch xine-vdpau-r281-crop-v9.diff.gz http://www.vdr-portal.de/board/attachment.php?attachmentid=22895 there're good reports about it http://www.forum.free-x.de/wbb/index.php?page=ThreadpostID=8313#post8313 I have to say that vdpau is looking like a very good solution for hdtv playback, it's just a shame that they didn't implement field parity support for interlaced material. +1 Goga ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr

Slight judder still with HD channels though. Now the VDR experience is the best I've had for a very long time, vdr-sxfe provides me with judder free live tv and playback, something I never achieved with vdr-xine. Generic media playback through the media browser is a definite plus, although the media browser interface is a bit too cluttered to achieve high WAF. It would be nice to be able to clear the settings from the main media player menu, and optionally turn off items, eg. if I never need to use the play music / play cd options. ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr

Re: [vdr] xbmc-pvr (was - HD clients for vdr)
do you know why xbmc support only vdpau-temporal ? what about bob-vdpau ? temporal_spatial-vdpau ? I got xbmc-vdr working the other day - but can't seem to see any active deinterlacing when using VDPAU Temporal. Other methods such as bob and weave work okay, but not VDPAU. Does anyone else see this problem? Pretty useless without any reasonable deint going on.. :-( ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr

Re: [vdr] [ANNOUNCE] VDR developer version 1.7.9
Your headers seem broken. What should happen (i.e. in upstream kernel git) is: let's have a look on my headers (debian sid kernel 2.6.30 s2-liplianin dvb) Did you look in /usr/include/linux/dvb/... or in /usr/src/linux/... ? /usr/src/s2-liplianin/linux For compiling userspace stuff (which vdr for sure is), the versions in /usr/include are used. not so necessary it's possible to change this behaviour -- edit -- Make.config -- DVBDIR = /usr/src/s2-liplianin/linux Goga ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr
Re: [vdr] [ANNOUNCE] VDR developer version 1.7.9
Maybe one of these includes in these files is missing? as you can see - no, everything is ok Confirm that you looked at the correct files: You should first look under ../s2-liplianin/linux/include/ in dir /usr/src/s2-liplianin/linux/include/linux there's not any mentioned you files you can have a look yourselves http://mercurial.intuxication.org/hg/s2-liplianin/file/ecdc9c389f8a/linux/include/ , and if the file in question doesn't exist there, you should look under /usr/include/ (note, not in /usr/src). I did so exactly in my previous mail PS vdr 178 compiled fine with existing headers Goga ___ vdr mailing list vdr@linuxtv.org http://www.linuxtv.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/vdr
