AW: [VFB] Blizzard -Rope Dub swap 2014 CLOSED revised to 14 tiers

2013-12-08 Thread rene.zillm...@t-online.de
Hi Peggy,

to make it as cold as possible, I'll ty a Jack Frost variation. This is a
pattern from Bob Church. I'll use as much of the suggested material as possible:

Ice dub instead of the white wool
Red arctic fox for the tail
Hair from a doter yeti to replace the marabou (if I can find some G).
White yak hair to replace the thread.
Maybe a curved penguin bone for the hook...

Stop better here.

Re: [VFB] Blizzard -Rope Dub swap 2014 CLOSED revised to 14 tiers

2013-12-08 Thread Don Ordes
Joyce,
Can’t wait to get this one. My son lives in Boise now, and I’m hoping to get
the fish the Snake quite often in the next few years. A go-to killer pattern
is just what I need for new water. Do you have a preferred fishing method, time
of day, season, etc. for this one?

Here’s the Google images page- lots of variations on this fly:
https://www.google.com/search?q=purple+peril+fishing+fly+imagestbm=ischtbo=usource=univsa=Xei=Vp6kUsfmEoaAqgGQuYCoBwved=0CEAQsAQbiw=1177bih=629

Or just type in ‘purple peril fishing fly images’ in the search engine.

And from what I’m hearing from Montana, the second color to have for this
pattern would be soft pink- not hot or florescent or ice UV- but just soft or
pastel pink dubbing, like dyed fur or wool.

Re: [VFB] Blizzard -Rope Dub swap 2014 CLOSED revised to 14 tiers

2013-12-08 Thread Neville Gosling
Hey DonO

I caught my first steelhead on a fly with a home tied purple peril. I spotted
two fish under a low bridge and had a heck of a time casting side arm upstream
under the bridge against the wind. The first cast hit the bridge, but the
second one timed between wind gusts flew straight under. The take was almost
instantaneous. That was in '79 or '80.

Neville Gosling

The Enbridge pipeline is a project so toxic that it brings global shame to
Canada.

Anytime there’s money to be made, corruption isn’t far behind.

time of day, season, etc. for this one?

Here’s the Google images page- lots of variations on this fly:
 https://www.google.com/search?q=purple+peril+fishing+fly+imagestbm=ischtbo=usource=univsa=Xei=Vp6kUsfmEoaAqgGQuYCoBwved=0CEAQsAQbiw=1177bih=629

Or just type in ‘purple peril fishing fly images’ in the search engine.

And from what I’m hearing from Montana, the second color to have for this
pattern would be soft pink- not hot or florescent or ice UV- but just soft or
pastel pink dubbing, like dyed fur or wool.

Lately i have digitalized his slides and he loves looking to them. Many good

Peggy, I will probably be tying a Doc Markham peril which he uses, and
claims is the ONLY fly to be used, with success, on the Snake river. It's
basically a transformed purple peril using arctic fox and lots of flash.
