A friend of a friend who is an animator made this: http://www.channelfrederator.com/methminute39/episode/TMM_20070906 It's really cute and references a few videobloggers like Ask a Ninja and Amanda C. from Rocketboom. Aside from Schlomo inquiring about a heart wipe, I haven't heard anything about making Valentine's day videos. Maybe it's just implied that you'll make one, but if you do so, i think it would be nice to share them with the group (or send me a link to them). Plus if you live in the New York City area and the douche that you've been seeing has neglected to ask you to do something for Valentines, or you're in fact the douche who neglected to ask the person you've been seeing to do something, or if you're neither a douche nor the one who has been douched on and would like to check the following out that's cool too: My comedian friend is throwing a valoween party downtown, which is a mix between a valentines day party and halloween party (dressing in a costume is optional) either way it might provide interesting footage. e-mail me off list if you want to go, and i'll give you more info. i feel like if i could get just one more video carrying vlogger there, i could go against my friend's creative efforts and make it a vlog-a-valentines day party ;) i don't think there's a cover, but either way if you tell me you're coming then i'll just smuggle you in with me. :)Obreahny O'Brien _ Live Search: New search found http://get.live.com/search/overview [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

RE: [videoblogging] Re: John Edwards to Run for President (announcement on YouTube)
To me, you can't compare the presidential campaigns of 2004 to the one happening now. In 2004 we were in the midst of war. Even though people didn't like Bush, many rationalized it as being too dangerous or too potentially complicating to switch presidents in the middle of such international crisis. I know this because I have friends in the army, even some who were deployed in Iraq, who swore they hated Bush BUT felt that for the aforementioned reasons, he should remain president. Also, you forget that the Democrats had their own roundabout media powerhouses like P. Diddy, Paris Hilton, and the such, campaigning for the youngsters to rock the vote, which while claiming non-partisanship were largely lobbying for the Democrats by insinuating the threat of the draft if Bush were to remain president. While I love Hillary Clinton and want her to win, I think the combined fact that she's a woman and her liberal record will make her presidential campaign reminiscent of the grassroots movement that you reference, more so than someone like Edwards, who has enough exposure and general liberal-conservative appeal to win the presidency. Istill remember in 2004 as I marched in the streets for Kerry (even thoughI didn't really like him) and found that our assembled grassroots powerpaled in comparison to the regimented and well-funded power the Bush 2004campaign had. We had our signs, chants, hope, and energy. They had theirsigns, chants, hope, and energy...and several party wagon vehicles...anda DJ...and threw major parties that got young people registered and hypedup for Bush...and...and...My sincere belief is that 2008 will be a battle of insiders. RE: [videoblogging] Re: HOLY POOP... vlog.mobi up to $5,200
You are dead wrong, and I suggest you back off the slander Actually, if it's written, then it's libel. Slander will occur if Digital Buddha takes up Vloglist's suggestion to call him and then speaks it. BUT THEN, Digital Buddha could claim that he was just voicing his OPINION of Vloglist as a pimp rather than denoting Vloglist as a pimp for the truth of the matter, which is a valid defense and then Vloglist would have no claim to defamation UNLESS Vloglist can prove that by being called a pimp by Digital Buddha somehow hurt Vloglist's 1) trade, business, or profession 2) portrayed Vloglist as unchaste (if Vloglist is in fact still a virgin- however in that case I'd suggest that Vloglist bite the bullet and thank Digital Buddha for suggesting that Vloglist is not on to becoming the 40 year old Virgin) 3) implied that Vloglist had some sort of disease 4) or that Vloglist was involved in some sort of criminal activity. As you can see this can go in favor either way depending on who can afford the legal fees of a Johnny Cochran-esque attorney. There was also a point to the above: people love to throw around the threat of defamation or slander especially in our free speech medium of vlogging/blogging, so it's good to know that it's really really hard to win in court because above all you have to prove that the statement was maliciously said as a fact- not opinion, that it was false, and that it was actually damaging (e.g., monetarily/emotionally) which can also be hard to prove. AND it's also good to know that it's such an ambiguous area of the law, so if you're not careful you could get bundled up in a shit load of legal fees. Re: [videoblogging] The Shallow Nature of Video Blogging
It was beautifully said. However, I think most of us recognized this inherent "creative"/ "life experience" value in vlogging even before Andrew had so eloquently illustrated it. The problem is that there now exists a quantifiable measure for what determines a "good" or "worthy" vlog, e.g., notoriety in print media and within our own vlogosphere, # of unique visitors, ad sales, etc.,. In turn, it is because certain vlogs have achieved a quantifiable measure of worth, that a standard has been created, where if our own creations don't measure up to it, one is left questioning the worth or "shallow" nature of the genre. I dont think that shallowness is intrinsic to video blogging but rather that it stems from our approach vs. our expectations. If you expect your vlog to be a business or a widely viewed entertainment medium, then you cant approach it from a myopic home movie perspective. Like a business, you have to focus on what your customers (viewers) would want to watch- not what you like; you have to be consistent with your updates-not post video whenever the mood strikes you; and you have to market your product-not stare at your computer screen waiting for a viral phenomenon to just happen. If your approach doesnt equate with your expectations, then its not so much that your vlog is shallow but rather, that your approach is half-wittedly taken. -obreahny http://collegewit.com From: andrew michael baron [EMAIL PROTECTED]Reply-To: videoblogging@yahoogroups.comTo: videoblogging@yahoogroups.comSubject: Re: [videoblogging] The Shallow Nature of Video BloggingDate: Mon, 5 Jun 2006 13:09:46 -0400 In The Myth ofSisyphus,Sisyphus, unfortunately, was in the wrong place at the wrong time and overheard secrets of the Gods fighting. hey Zadi, My name is Obreahny O'Brien. I'm a 20 year old female college student in the New York City area. I blog using words and videos on my website http://collegewit.com Friends sometimes contribute- however the other strongest contributor is also a college female named Anjii; she's currently attending culinary school in Baltimore. I've been kind of delinquent in updating the videos sections b/c at the end of the day, writing is more my passion, however i've been getting video requests from our viewers so i'm going to get more on top of that now that final exams are over. The theme of my website is uncensored "random observations" as they relate to everything from college students' love lives (or lack thereof ;) ) to internship woes and school. [videoblogging] kids make vlogging dangerous
over the weekend my friend's 7 year old brother, justin, grabbed the mini dv and began walking around the house; instead of dismissing him like we usually do, we viewed the videos he had saved on the camera and we got this: http://collegewit.com/media/videos/weirdosonlaptops.wmv untrained, he gave his own commentary and he did so simply b/c he was inspired by thevideos section ( http://collegewit.com/index.php?cat=15)of the College Wit site that he always hears his sister and i talking about we realized in a moment that as soon as Justin learns to upload videos on the internet, private moments like this with mel and i sitting around in pajamas, giving ourselves beauty treatments while typing on our comps will easily become exposed! (from now on all zit therapy sessions will take place behind closed and locked doors!) i just thought i would share with all of you how easy it is for little kids to pick up on vlogging, i.e., talk about your own vids and give them a mini dv for their birthdays! -brainy founder http://collegewit.com YAHOO!
