Hi, Flor, I lost you somewhere when you mentioned it being a human-generated message. I am not even sure what you mean by that. RE: Iphone 5S Plugging In To PC To charge
Brilliant, thanks very much indeed for taking the time to reply. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of M. Taylor Sent: 23 July 2014 21:03 To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Iphone 5S Plugging In To PC To charge Hello, What you are describing is the AutoPlay Dialog box that appears in Windows 7 and I presume Windows 8 when attaching any device that have either or disk storage or detectible media. You may do well to explore this Dialog box via your screen reader. Sometimes, because of the various video drivers with which the screen reader must interact, you may need to force focus on the AutoPlay Dialog box by either using the Alt-Tab key-combo or by using the tab key followed by the arrow keys. When this box appears, it will give you all of the options available to your device based on the software that you have installed on your computer. For example, if you have any photos stored on your iPhone's camera roll, that is, pictures that you have not placed in the saved pictures area of the phone, the options you may have in your particular AutoPlay Dialog box may include (1) opening the device to view the files, (2) copy the files into Windows live photo editor, etc. Generally speaking, I recommend that you always choose to open the device to view the files if you want to copy your new photos directly to your PC. In fact, this is the way I copy photos. However, if all you want to do is simply attach your phone in order for it to charge, when this Dialog box appears, simply press the Escape key on your keyboard to close the box without any action being taken. Finally, near the bottom of the dialog box, you will locate a link that will take you to the Windows Control panel where you can determine how you want Windows to act whenever you attach your iPHone, or any device, for that matter. RE: iMessaging how it works?
Hi Teresa, On an iPad or iPod touch an iMessage cannot be sent as an SMS if the iMessage fails because in order for this to work your device must be capable of sending a text message and of course only a phone can do this. Yes, I know there are apps out there which allow you to send SMS messages from an iPad or iPod /touch, but that is not the same and if an imessage fails and is sent as a regular SMS message than it defaults to your provider's text message service and you are charged whatever text message rate you pay unless you have something like an unlimited plan. Re: Do I save battery if I turn off notifications?
In some respects yes, especially if you are being notified about every email, Facebook post, news updates etc. You will have to go to Settings, swipe down to Notification Center and open and turn off all of the app alerts that you do not want to receive immediate notifications from. I have phone, messages, calendar, reminders and skype alert notifications turned on. I have my screen brightness set to 30%, in case I need a sighted persons help. I have bluetooth turned off until I need to use it. And I have background app refresh turned off. Doing all of this has greatly increased the battery life on my iPhone 5. Of course, your settings for your device depends on how much info you want pushed to you immediately and what you can adjust as needed. MusiXmatch Music Lyrics Player App
I came across this app following a review on the Gizmo's free software site. I like music players especially if they will provide lyrics and music identification features which this one does. The app seems to work well with VoiceOver when I just tried it and it successfully read the lyrics which popped up for each line of the test song from my library which I played. I did have to label the five menu buttons along the bottom of the screen which I did as follows: My Music Trending Lyrics Identify Music Favorites Options What I loaded on my iPhone 5 was free but I'm not clear if there is an InApp upgrade for this one. The iTunes Store description on the web at the following link seemed to indicate an upgrade was available: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/musixmatch-music-lyrics-player/id448278467?m t=8 You can set up an account by logging in with Facebook or Google or by providing your email address and a password as I did from within the app. I'd welcome the comments of others who try this app. Alan Lemly -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. You can turn the phone back off and on again; you can reset the phone by holding the power button and the home button so it reboots, or you can do a restore. None of those are so difficult or time-consuming that you should avoid them if she is having this kind of problem. I suppose it's possible that letting your battery die completely could cause this, though I've had this happen a few times without negative consequences. I suppose how long she had to wait to charge it might be a factor but I don't even know for sure if this is true. -- Cheryl I tried and tried to turn over a new leaf. I got crumpled wads of tear-stained paper thrown in the trash! Then God gave me a new heart and life: His joy for my despairing tears! And now, every day: This I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. One of my students is having a problem with her iPhone and I frankly don’t have a clue as to how to help her. She thinks the problem started about the time her battery died completely when she was working with her iPhone. She charged the device and she thinks that’s when her iPhone began to misbehave. Overall, her iPhone works as expected. The problem arises when she navigates into a text field and puts it into edit mode or navigates into a text field that is already in edit mode. Her iPhone immediately becomes extremely sluggish. Characters entered from a Bluetooth keyboard or from the onscreen keyboard sometimes take as long as 5 or 6 seconds from the time they are entered to the time they show up in the text field. Trying to navigate from the text field with a left or right flick or using the left or right arrow keys on the keyboard also takes several seconds or sometimes does not work at all. Flicking up or down to review the text field contents by character or word works once or twice and then begins to work very slowly and eventually does not work at all. Attempting to change the rotor setting does nothing, works extremely slowly or, in many cases, simply locks up the iPhone. We removed all items from the App Switcher, powered down the iPhone, did a soft reset, removed as many items as possible from the Rotor, removed all devices from the list of paired Bluetooth devices, and numerous other small possible fixes. Absolutely nothing helped. As far as I’m concerned, the only thing left to do is a hard reset. I’m hoping to avoid this so I’m writing to the list to see if anyone might have some ideas we haven’t tried. As always, any help is greatly appreciated. Yahoo Fantasy Sports Gets VoiceOver Improvements again
Hey all, Just wanted to let the list know that the Yahoo Fantasy Sports App has once again gotten a big VO improvement, and just in time for Fantasy Football season. I have been told that creating a league now works with VO which is the only part of the app I haven't tested yet, but as far as drafting and managing your team on a day to day basis, I would say that the app is now 98% accessible, and more than any other fantasy game app that I have checked. I have now moved all my leagues that I am in for baseball and football from ESPN to Yahoo since ESPN continues to ignore and care less about making their apps or improving their websites accessibility for the Mac. If there is enough interest I might start an all VoiceOVer users fantasy football league, so feel free to email me directly at brianfisch...@me.com if you are interested. Again there would have to be enough of us to make it worth while, so let me know if you are interested. Best, -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Re: Text Fields Causing Serious Performance Problems
There is also the option to reset all settings, under settings, general, reset. Although others have not had this happen, it has turned voice over off when I have done this, so I always dreaded having to do it away from my pc with iTunes. Now that one can have searie turn voice over back on, it is not such a big deal if it is turned off. All the settings will go back to their default values, so be prepared to reset everything. Try Prizmo with the quick capture and see if you have any better luck. Though, I have never had a problem with TextGrabber, I prefer Prizmo.
