Hello,

What you are describing is the AutoPlay Dialog box that appears in Windows 7
and I presume Windows 8 when attaching any device that have either or disk
storage or detectible media.

You may do well to explore this Dialog box via your screen reader.
Sometimes, because of the various video drivers with which the screen reader
must interact, you may need to force focus on the AutoPlay Dialog box by either
using the Alt-Tab key-combo or by using the tab key followed by the arrow keys.

When this box appears, it will give you all of the options available to your
device based on the software that you have installed on your computer. For
example, if you have any photos stored on your iPhone's camera roll, that is,
pictures that you have not placed in the saved pictures area of the phone, the
options you may have in your particular AutoPlay Dialog box may include (1)
opening the device to view the files, (2) copy the files into Windows live
photo editor, etc.

Generally speaking, I recommend that you always choose to open the device to
view the files if you want to copy your new photos directly to your PC. In
fact, this is the way I copy photos.

However, if all you want to do is simply attach your phone in order for it to
charge, when this Dialog box appears, simply press the Escape key on your
keyboard to close the box without any action being taken.

Finally, near the bottom of the dialog box, you will locate a link that will
take you to the Windows Control panel where you can determine how you want
Windows to act whenever you attach your iPHone, or any device, for that matter.

Good Luck and Enjoy,

Mark

2014-07-24 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Teresa,

On an iPad or iPod touch an iMessage cannot be sent as an SMS if the
iMessage fails because in order for this to work your device must be capable
of sending a text message and of course only a phone can do this. Yes, I
know there are apps out there which allow you to send SMS messages from an
iPad or iPod /touch, but that is not the same and if an imessage fails and
is sent as a regular SMS message than it defaults to your provider's text
message service and you are charged whatever text message rate you pay
unless you have something like an unlimited plan.

No problem. Re Siri’s volume – it does seem quieter than audio and possibly
than VO generally but not unduly so. Try upping the phone volume as Siri is
talking as you say and that will make sure that it is as high as you can make
it.
Re waterproofness of the speaker band – no idea I’m afraid. Even though I live
in England I haven’t tried it in the rain yet!

There is (or was) a Google group called Applebraille. (And some members of this

applebraille+subscr...@googlegroups.com - if joining it.

Also, you could try J. M., he of FS, the famous Consulting, and of
appcessible.net . he uses braille extensively, and probably Focus Blue
displays. Inn my iOS tyro experience, even some of the buttons on the focus14
blue are somewhat superflluous in iPhone/iOS in that they duplicate
functionalities already catered for by others more main.

 Hello Donna and all,
thank you very much for your help.
I think my explanation was not clear and understandable enough, so I will try
 to explain again.
Well, when I go through friends' and pages' posts, I can interact with them
fine; that means I am able to do one-finger double tap to share, like or
 comment on a post.
However, from time to time, there are posts like following:
John has commented on Paul's post - We have very nice weather here.
And it says, for example, the post has 4 likes and 15 comments.
I am not able to click on these particular posts where someone has commented
 on someone else's post.
When I click on the status it just says selected, but I cannot view other
 comments.
Other than that Facebook works the way you described.
I hope my post makes sense this time.
 Thank you again.
 With regards

Unfortunately, there is no way to setup Facebook so that you receive email
notifications for pages that you have liked. You can view post from your
liked pages seperately from your newsfeed by doing the following: After
launching the Facebook app, double tap on the More button in the bottom
right. Swipe down to you find the Pages tab, double tap on Pages and a list
of post from the Liked pages will appear. To interact with a post just use
the 1 finger tap as I described above.

If you perfer to access your Liked Pages from the mobile Facebook site: tap
on Main Menu near the top of the page, swipe down to you get to Pages Feed,
double tap, this will open up all of your Liked Pages. You can interact with
the post the same way as with the Facebook app, by doing a 1 finger double
 tap.

I use the Facebook app and the mobile Facebook site each day and what I have
described works great for me every time.

I have been using it for quite a while, but there is something I cannot

A particular friend has comented on a particular post.
When I want to view that post and see all the comments, Facebook just
says selected, but I cannot see that post and comments. When I do
two-fingers double tap gesture, I can see the options such as like share
and comment. but when I click on comment, the only thing I can do is to
post my own comment, but I cannot see the comments that other people
 posted.
I have one more question I have asked some time ago, but I did not get an
answer that really works, so I Will try again.
As I said the other day, I have been getting notifications for groups and
some friends who have been added to my close friends list.
I would also like to get notifications for the pages I liked.
To explain it better, Applevis has a Facebook page and when someone wants
to follow the news, they must click on like button first.
When someone wants to join a certain facebook group, they must click
 join button.
I know that it is possible to get notifications when a new post appear in
a group, but is anything like that possible for Facebook pages?
If so, please could anyone give mestep-by-step instructions how to set it
 up?
I cannot find it in the settings, so I might have been doing something
 wrong.
Thank you for your help in advance.

Re: Do I save battery if I turn off notifications?

2014-07-24 Thread Donna
In some respects yes, especially if you are being notified about every email,
Facebook post, news updates etc.

You will have to go to Settings, swipe down to Notification Center and open and
turn off all of the app alerts that you do not want to receive immediate
notifications from.

I have phone, messages, calendar, reminders and skype alert notifications
turned on. I have my screen brightness set to 30%, in case I need a sighted
persons help. I have bluetooth turned off until I need to use it. And I have
background app refresh turned off. Doing all of this has greatly increased the
battery life on my iPhone 5.

Of course, your settings for your device depends on how much info you want
pushed to you immediately and what you can adjust as needed.

MusiXmatch Music Lyrics Player App

2014-07-24 Thread Alan Lemly
I came across this app following a review on the Gizmo's free software site.
I like music players especially if they will provide lyrics and music
identification features which this one does. The app seems to work well with
VoiceOver when I just tried it and it successfully read the lyrics which
popped up for each line of the test song from my library which I played.

I did have to label the five menu buttons along the bottom of the screen
which I did as follows:

My Music

Trending Lyrics

Identify Music

Favorites

Options

What I loaded on my iPhone 5 was free but I'm not clear if there is an InApp
upgrade for this one. The iTunes Store description on the web at the
following link seemed to indicate an upgrade was available:

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/musixmatch-music-lyrics-player/id448278467?m
t=8

You can set up an account by logging in with Facebook or Google or by
providing your email address and a password as I did from within the app.

I'd welcome the comments of others who try this app.

Re: Text Fields Causing Serious Performance Problems

2014-07-24 Thread Cheryl Homiak
It's not clear to me what you mean for sure by a soft reset vs. a hard reset.
You can turn the phone back off and on again; you can reset the phone by
holding the power button and the home button so it reboots, or you can do a
restore. None of those are so difficult or time-consuming that you should avoid
them if she is having this kind of problem. I suppose it's possible that
letting your battery die completely could cause this, though I've had this
happen a few times without negative consequences. I suppose how long she had to
wait to charge it might be a factor but I don't even know for sure if this is
true.

her. She thinks the problem started about the time her battery died
completely when she was working with her iPhone. She charged the device and
she thinks that’s when her iPhone began to misbehave. Overall, her iPhone
works as expected. The problem arises when she navigates into a text field
and puts it into edit mode or navigates into a text field that is already in
edit mode. Her iPhone immediately becomes extremely sluggish. Characters
entered from a Bluetooth keyboard or from the onscreen keyboard sometimes
take as long as 5 or 6 seconds from the time they are entered to the time
they show up in the text field. Trying to navigate from the text field with
a left or right flick or using the left or right arrow keys on the keyboard
also takes several seconds or sometimes does not work at all. Flicking up or
down to review the text field contents by character or word works once or
twice and then begins to work very slowly and eventually does not work at
all. Attempting to change the rotor setting does nothing, works extremely
slowly or, in many cases, simply locks up the iPhone. We removed all items
from the App Switcher, powered down the iPhone, did a soft reset, removed as
many items as possible from the Rotor, removed all devices from the list of
paired Bluetooth devices, and numerous other small possible fixes.
Absolutely nothing helped. As far as I’m concerned, the only thing left to
do is a hard reset. I’m hoping to avoid this so I’m writing to the list to
see if anyone might have some ideas we haven’t tried. As always, any help is
 greatly appreciated.

Ban? After listening to another fabulous David Woodbridge podcast I had to
get this thing, as it sounded like it would be fantastic with VoiceOver. I
just got it, and it seems pretty good so far, my only complaint is I wish it
would be able to get a little louder. In his podcast David discussed using
Siri by pressing and holding the play/pause button on the watch, but when I
do that by default it doesn't launch Siri instead it redials the last number
I called. Anyone have any clue? I looked on th eweb for the user manual but
the only thing I was able to find was the specs for the watch and nothing
 else. Thanks,

Yahoo Fantasy Sports Gets VoiceOver Improvements again

2014-07-24 Thread Brian Fischler
Hey all,

Just wanted to let the list know that the Yahoo Fantasy Sports App has once
again gotten a big VO improvement, and just in time for Fantasy Football
season. I have been told that creating a league now works with VO which is the
only part of the app I haven't tested yet, but as far as drafting and managing
your team on a day to day basis, I would say that the app is now 98%
accessible, and more than any other fantasy game app that I have checked. I
have now moved all my leagues that I am in for baseball and football from ESPN
to Yahoo since ESPN continues to ignore and care less about making their apps
or improving their websites accessibility for the Mac. If there is enough
interest I might start an all VoiceOVer users fantasy football league, so feel
free to email me directly at brianfisch...@me.com if you are interested. Again
there would have to be enough of us to make it worth while, so let me know if
you are interested.

Best,

been good due to the fact that it doesn't go into your ears or on your ears
either. The best idea I can come up with is the Bluis 2 headset which is
also a bone conducter headset with 2 microphones but it is wireless. I don't
use an iPad so I'm not sure about it but the Bluiz2 does work extremely well
with my iPhone
Maybe someone else can fill us in on the use with the iPad

Hi all,
I'd tried to ask this question before, but not sure if it went through.
I want a headset with the following features and wondering if anyone has any
ideas which one to ges.
1) a wired headset to use with both a iphone 4s and an ipad mini.
2) must have a built in stereo mic as I want to use it with bossjock and
audioboo.
3) no in-ear types as I cant use them due to wearing hearing aids.
Am I off my rocker and asking for too much?
Steph

Re: More Facebook questions.

2014-07-24 Thread Brett
Hi,

To answer question 1: once you have double tapped on the post you want to see
the comments too, Voice over should announce sellected. You can then toggle
voiceover off, then tap twice in the middle of the screen. Turn VO back on and
the post you were trying to view, should now be opened.

Cheers,
Brett.

When I want to view that post and see all the comments, Facebook just says

when I click on comment, the only thing I can do is to post my own comment,
but I cannot see the comments that other people posted.
I have one more question I have asked some time ago, but I did not get an

As I said the other day, I have been getting notifications for groups and
some friends who have been added to my close friends list.
I would also like to get notifications for the pages I liked.
To explain it better, Applevis has a Facebook page and when someone wants to
follow the news, they must click on like button first.
When someone wants to join a certain facebook group, they must click join
 button.
I know that it is possible to get notifications when a new post appear in a
group, but is anything like that possible for Facebook pages?
If so, please could anyone give mestep-by-step instructions how to set it up?
I cannot find it in the settings, so I might have been doing something wrong.
Thank you for your help in advance.

Thanks. After listening to David Woodbridge's 2 demo podcast on this speaker
band, I order one via amazon. Should be here tomorrow. Amazon has it for
$44.95. Really anxious to try this out.

When searching amazon for this item, I discovered there are actually a few
other similar bluetooth speaker watches for less money but I decided to
stick with what I know works well thanks to the podcasts.

There is also the option to reset all settings, under settings, general, reset.
Although others have not had this happen, it has turned voice over off when I
have done this, so I always dreaded having to do it away from my pc with
iTunes. Now that one can have searie turn voice over back on, it is not such a
big deal if it is turned off. All the settings will go back to their default
values, so be prepared to reset everything.

I suppose how long she had to
wait to charge it might be a factor but I don't even know for sure if this is
true.

I tried and tried to turn over a new leaf.
I got crumpled wads of tear-stained paper thrown in the trash!
Then God gave me a new heart and life:
His joy for my despairing tears!
And now, every day:
This I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

She thinks the problem started about the time her battery died completely when
she was working with her iPhone. She charged the device and she thinks that’s
when her iPhone began to misbehave. Overall, her iPhone works as expected.
The problem arises when she navigates into a text field and puts it into edit
mode or navigates into a text field that is already in edit mode. Her iPhone
immediately becomes extremely sluggish. Characters entered from a Bluetooth
keyboard or from the onscreen keyboard sometimes take as long as 5 or 6 seconds
from the time they are entered to the time they show up in the text field.
Trying to navigate from the text field with a left or right flick or using the
left or right arrow keys on the keyboard also takes several seconds or
sometimes does not work at all. Flicking up or down to review the text field
contents by character or word works once or twice and then begins to work very
slowly and eventually does not work at all. Attempting to change the rotor
setting does nothing, works extremely slowly or, in many cases, simply locks up
the iPhone. We removed all items from the App Switcher, powered down the
iPhone, did a soft reset, removed as many items as possible from the Rotor,
removed all devices from the list of paired Bluetooth devices, and numerous
other small possible fixes. Absolutely nothing helped. As far as I’m
concerned, the only thing left to do is a hard reset. I’m hoping to avoid this
so I’m writing to the list to see if anyone might have some ideas we haven’t
tried. As always, any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Verry annoyed with TextGrabber!

2014-07-24 Thread Richard Turner
Try Prizmo with the quick capture and see if you have any better luck.
Though, I have never had a problem with TextGrabber, I prefer Prizmo.
If you want to save your scans as documents, you'll want to learn to use the
Prizmo Create New Document feature.

RE: Ben Bluetooth Speaker Ban

2014-07-24 Thread Rick Alfaro
I'll let you know if I have any issues with volume. It sounded pretty loud
on David's podcasts but we don't know how it was recorded, things like
microphone placement Etc. The volume seemed impressive on the podcasts.

That's funny as over the weekend I couldn't find it on Amazon searching for
it on the web and the app, strange. One thing I did notice today is if you
are near traffic you will need to hold it up to your ear to hear it at all,
but other than it not being the loudest speaker it is easy to setup and use.

Thanks. After listening to David Woodbridge's 2 demo podcast on this

band, I order one via amazon. Should be here tomorrow. Amazon has it for
$44.95. Really anxious to try this out.

When searching amazon for this item, I discovered there are actually a few
other similar bluetooth speaker watches for less money but I decided to
stick with what I know works well thanks to the podcasts.

Here you go, would definitely recommend it but just an FYI I am not sure
how
well you will hear it if you are in a high traffic area or over
construction
as it isn't the loudest, but for $50 U.S. it is pretty great

Hey, I wanted to see if anyone else had gotten the Ben Bluetooth Speaker
Ban? After listening to another fabulous David Woodbridge podcast I had
to
get this thing, as it sounded like it would be fantastic with VoiceOver.
I
just got it, and it seems pretty good so far, my only complaint is I wish
 it
would be able to get a little louder. In his podcast David discussed
using
Siri by pressing and holding the play/pause button on the watch, but when
 I
do that by default it doesn't launch Siri instead it redials the last
 number
I called. Anyone have any clue? I looked on th eweb for the user manual
 but
the only thing I was able to find was the specs for the watch and nothing
 else. Thanks,
