RE: Apple verification issue has resurfaced

2015-11-15 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Kathy,

I think you are being prompted for verification because you need to update your
password to a more secure one.

You can verify if this is necessary by going to:
http://appleid.apple.com

When you attempt to login, if your password is not secure enough for Apple, it
will prompt you to update, immediately. Doing so should resolve your problem.

Good Luck,

Mark

Subject: Apple verification issue has resurfaced

It was solved on my iPod, but resurfaced again, coincidentally after an iCloud
back up. Then when I was on the road yesterday my iPhone for the first time
ever when I powered it on, prompted me to verify my Apple ID with the password.
It has done so no every time I turn it on. I am away from home now, so this is
really perplexing. Someone here said, a beta tester, that when he put the beta
of 9.2 on his phone, that he no longer had this issue, that this is a known
issue. When I asked Apple accessibility about it, they said that they didn't
know it was a bug. Has anyone had this experience? I even signed out of all my
apps, powered down, re-signed into everything, and used a friends phone as a
hotspot rather than the hotel Wi-Fi, but this isn't resolved. Any help would be
appreciated. Thanks.

RE: Backlight not turning off

2015-11-15 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Harry,

I have seen some form of your problem but not exactly.

Try setting all of your notifications, that are currently being displayed as
alerts, to banners, and see what happens.

Also, don't forget to reboot your phone, from time-to-time.

Good Luck,

On my iPhone 5s ios 9.1, I have screen auto lock set at 1 minute but it never
turns off of its own accord. If I press the power button briefly, yes, the
screen does go black. But if a notification wakes my screen up again or if I
press the home button with a non fingerprint ID finger, the screen saver comes
up but the screen does not go back to black. Does anyone recognize this
problem? Or know of a solution? Thanks. Harry

Go to Settings > Mail, Calendar, Contacts
double tap on the mail account you want to change, after you swipe past the
items you can select or unselect to sync (Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Reminders)
you will find "Mail Days to Sync", double tap on it.
Select either No limit, 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, 2 weeks or 1 months.
I have mine set to "No Limit" so that all messages are displayed.
The setting you mention doesn't exist any more, but this will dow hat you want.

RE: Unable to cancel a search in the audible app

2015-11-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Mary,

That's an easy answer. When you are done and ready to cancel your search, just
double tap on the edit field at the top where you typed in whatever author name
or boot title you were searching for. At this point you can swipe right and
find two buttons: "Clear Text" and "Cancel". I guess Cancel is dimmed if focus
is not in the edit field and one may argue that this is a bug, but I don't know
if this is so or if it's deliberate. Anyhow, cancel works fine if focus is in
the edit fireld.

Amazon has definitely done stupid stuff to the Audible app and I still wish
they'd bring back the ability to delete by simply turning the rotor when
Voiceover is on, but apart from that the app at this point works very well for
me again, it's stabil and I would really have to think hard to come up with any
major complaint.
Downloads are finally happening fast and at a speed I'd expect after a long,
long time of giving me trouble with very slow download speeds especially when
books were over 200 Mb and when I was on WiFi. Often on cell data the downloads
went much faster, but like I said, it's all working well now.

Regards,
Sieghard

It seems there is yet another bug in the wonderful audible app. Open the app,
and go into your library. Do a search that includes a search in the store. Find
a book in that search and go listen to the sample still in the app, of course,
because that's how it works. Return to the listing in the app with the search
that included your book. Try to cancel that search. I can't do that. The cancel
button is dim. I can't figure out why it should be dimmed but it is. The only
way I have found to get back to my regular library listing following a search
is to close the app out of the app switcher. Is anyone else having any luck
performing searches then canceling them and returning to their book listing on
their device?
Mary

If that is the case, perhaps she needs her own Apple ID?

I have done this and I have even unchecked Karl’s iPad which is listed in the
setting. These devices are on the same Apple ID as well but it looks like
everything which would allow such things are off.

Since I got my new iPhone 6S my daughter says that she is seeing my messages
come up on our iPad. At one point she was also getting my incoming phone calls.
I have checked everywhere I can see on my phone to turn this off but at least
the messages are getting through. What am I missing?

Hi, Thanks Sieghard.
The only thing I see after the items to select to sync is delete account. I'm

RE: showing more mail?

2015-11-15 Thread Richard Turner
Is this the difference between iMap and Pop servers?
Like Sieghard, I use Outlook and the mail days to sync is there, but I also
have a Gmail account that does not have that option.
I have another Email pop account and it doesn't have that option either.
I came into this late, so I'm not sure the entire context.

Richard

Hello,
This is off topic, but, I have never had issues with my GMAIL, though I know
that I have been just lucky. At least I think so, anyway.

Re: showing more mail?

2015-11-15 Thread Jenifer Barr
Hi Richard.
I was trying to find out how I could show all of my mail in my inbox on my new
phone. I couldn't find the setting, perhaps it is a gmail thing. I know the
mail is still on the server, I can see it on the gmail site.
Oh well.

RE: Apple's native Podcasts app in which iOS?

2015-11-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Gerardo,

It should be available in the app store, just search for "Apple Apps". I think
it's only included in iOS as a stock app since iOS 9.
On the other hand, I would really encourage you to simply upgrade to 9.1, I
doubt you'll have any major issues or experience bugs which are deal-breakers.
It is my guess that 9.2 will be released around early to mid December, it's on
beta 3 now as of Tuesday last week so Beta 4 may already be coming out in a day
or two since Apple has often pushed out beta updates every week. I think iOS
9.1 went to 5 betas before the public release happened and I wouldn't be
surprised if 9.2 was publically released the week of November 30 or December 7.

Regards,
Sieghard

OH so it must have been in maybe iOS8? because I can't find it at least
natively installed, on my 4S with 7.1.1, thus can I grab it from the AppStore?

So, are you saying her iPad is on the same Apple ID as your iPhone?

If that is the case, perhaps she needs her own Apple ID?

That or it is time to call Apple Accessibility.

everything which would allow such things are off.

Re: clock no longer works, please help

2015-11-15 Thread Jed Barton

Hey there, it's 9.2
Also running the iphone 6

On 11/15/2015 9:29 AM, Sieghard Weitzel wrote:

Are you running iOS 9.2 Beta 1 or Beta 2? I know discussing beta related issues
is not welcome here, but remember when posting about any problems like this to
always include at least the iOS version you hae on your device and, even
better, also which device the problem occurs on. Often issues are related to
specific versions and knowing this information will result in fewer messages to
the list since often two or three people will ask exactly what I am asking. If
you include your iOS version and device model you are likely to get a quicker
and better answer.
Anyhow, in case you are running iOS 9.2 Beta 1 or Beta 2 then the problem you
are describing is known and has been reported to Apple by other beta testers
already although it of course never hurts if more people send feedback about
bugs.
Also, in case you are on the public beta, keep in mind that bugs are the nature
of betas and things like this are to be expected.
If you are not on the public beta, make sure you are at least running the latest built of iOS 9.1. Then remove all apps from the app switcher and reboot your phone. If the problem persists, try to do a Reset Network Settings in Settings > General > Reset. Reconnect to your /WiFi after the reboot and see if the problem persists. If it does you may have to do a factory restore, set up your phone as a new device and see if you still have the problem. If you don't, you can restore your backup, either iCloud or, even better, an encrypted backup done with iTunes. If the problem reappears after restoring the backup, something got corrupted and you have to restore again back to factory settings, set up as a new device and proceed to configure your phone from scratch, download all your apps, arrange your home screens and folders, set up your email, Voiceover Settings, sync any media back to your phone you may have had on it and so on. Depending on how much stuff you had on your phone this

can be a time consuming process which can take many hours, but it sometimes can
be the only solution to a persistent bug which nobody else seems to be
experiencing and I am not aware of any clock issues in any iOS 8 version nor
was there a problem in 9.0.x or 9.1.x.

Good luck,
Sieghard

Is this for your gmail account? I am using Outlook.com and I believe it works

RE: showing more mail?

2015-11-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Richard,

Jennifer didn't say if she has set up her gmail account as a POP account or if
she is using IMAP. I am really glad when I switched from my ISP's email service
to Hotmail 6 years ago that I ended up deciding on Hotmail which then became
Windows Live and now finally has evolved into Outlook.com. I do have a gmail
account which I never really use for anything except as an account to log into
Google services like Youtube, but I read about people having issues with gmail
so often and rarely hear anything about people having problems with their
Outlook.com/Exchange Active Sync setup.

Regards,
Sieghard

Is this the difference between iMap and Pop servers?
Like Sieghard, I use Outlook and the mail days to sync is there, but I also
have a Gmail account that does not have that option.
I have another Email pop account and it doesn't have that option either.
I came into this late, so I'm not sure the entire context.

clock no longer works, please help

Hey guys,
Well, this is strange. I am clicking on the clock, and it says double
tap to open. I do my usual double tap, and can no longer access the
alarms or anything. It makes the usual sound like i am opening it, but
when i swipe, i still see messages, stocks and all that. Any ideas?

This is certainly odd

RE: clock no longer works, please help

2015-11-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you are not on the public beta, make sure you are at least running the
latest built of iOS 9.1. Then remove all apps from the app switcher and reboot
your phone. If the problem persists, try to do a Reset Network Settings in
Settings > General > Reset. Reconnect to your /WiFi after the reboot and see if
the problem persists. If it does you may have to do a factory restore, set up
your phone as a new device and see if you still have the problem. If you don't,
you can restore your backup, either iCloud or, even better, an encrypted backup
done with iTunes. If the problem reappears after restoring the backup,
something got corrupted and you have to restore again back to factory settings,
set up as a new device and proceed to configure your phone from scratch,
download all your apps, arrange your home screens and folders, set up your
email, Voiceover Settings, sync any media back to your phone you may have had
on it and so on. Depending on how much stuff you had on your phone this can be
a time consuming process which can take many hours, but it sometimes can be the
only solution to a persistent bug which nobody else seems to be experiencing
and I am not aware of any clock issues in any iOS 8 version nor was there a
problem in 9.0.x or 9.1.x.

Good luck,
Sieghard

RE: clock no longer works, please help

2015-11-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
As 9.2 is in beta discussions are not allowed on this list and I already
stretched this rule when I said in my last post that there is a known bug with
iOS 9 Beta 1 and 2 and the clock app.
That is as far as I go in respect to Cara's wishes regarding beta discussions.
Like I said, if you run beta software you run the risk of having to deal with
bugs which sometimes can be so severe that your iPhone's functionality maybe
majorly reduced and in many cases of running beta versions over the last 3 or 4
years I have had to downgrade when I ran into something particular nasty. This
particular issue is minor and all I can say is that you should always update to
the latest beta and then test anything you noticed before to see if it's been
fixed.

Regards,
Sieghard

2015-11-15 Thread Jed Barton

Hey Seighard,
can you email me off list?
My email is
j...@jedbarton.com
I'd like to go over with you the downgrade process.

On 11/15/2015 10:30 AM, Sieghard Weitzel wrote:

As 9.2 is in beta discussions are not allowed on this list and I already
stretched this rule when I said in my last post that there is a known bug with
iOS 9 Beta 1 and 2 and the clock app.
That is as far as I go in respect to Cara's wishes regarding beta discussions.
Like I said, if you run beta software you run the risk of having to deal with
bugs which sometimes can be so severe that your iPhone's functionality maybe
majorly reduced and in many cases of running beta versions over the last 3 or 4
years I have had to downgrade when I ran into something particular nasty. This
particular issue is minor and all I can say is that you should always update to
the latest beta and then test anything you noticed before to see if it's been
fixed.

If you are not on the public beta, make sure you are at least running the latest
built of iOS 9.1. Then remove all apps from the app switcher and reboot your phone.
If the problem persists, try to do a Reset Network Settings in Settings > General
> Reset. Reconnect to your /WiFi after the reboot and see if the problem persists.
If it does you may have to do a factory restore, set up your phone as a new device
and see if you still have the problem. If you don't, you can restore your backup,
either iCloud or, even better, an encrypted backup done with iTunes. If the problem
reappears after restoring the backup, something got corrupted and you have to restore
again back to factory settings, set up as a new device and proceed to configure your
phone from scratch, download all your apps, arrange your home screens and folders,
set up your email, Voiceover Settings, sync any media back to your phone you may have
had on it and so on.

Good luck,
Sieghard

Hey guys,
Well, this is strange. I am clicking on the clock, and it says double tap to
open. I do my usual double tap, and can no longer access the alarms or
anything. It makes the usual sound like i am opening it, but when i swipe, i
still see messages, stocks and all that. Any ideas?
This is certainly odd

Re: showing more mail?

2015-11-15 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I won't get into the POP versus IMAP debate or the IMAP versus Exchange
debate or the GMail versus Outlook debate, but be assured there's a
place in today's world for all of this so don't feel pressured to use
one protocol or service over another. Listen to the pros and cons of
each and then make your own decision.

On the statements below about the use of labels in Gmail, I've never
seen an email client where this doesn't look and behave exactly like it
would if you were just using folders on Gmail. Labels are just the
mechanism that Gmail uses to track information about your email, and it
does provide some efficiencies. For example, if you copy a message from
one folder to another, you don't actually have two copies of that
message on your email server. You still have just the one message with
two different labels associated with it. I'd actually be surprised if
Microsoft wasn't using the same design on their servers.

There's also no such thing as an All Mail label. When you look at the
all mail folder in your email client or the all mail view on the Gmail
web site, you're just looking at any message on your email server
regardless of what labels it has associated with it. This comes in handy
when you moved a message to a folder and can't remember what folder that
might have been. BTW, when you move a message into the trash folder,
it'll be removed from the server after 30 days, so it'll also stop
shewing up in your All Mail folder.

On 11/15/2015 11:11 AM, Sieghard Weitzel wrote:

Hi Jennifer,

I know a few people still think POP has a place in today's modern era where
people often have their email accounts set up on multiple devices including
maybe a PC/Laptop/Mac, an iPhone and/or iPad and so on.
I personally switched to Hotmail/Outlook.com 6 years ago when I first started using smartphones and an iPod Touch because POP to me is a protocol for when people had one computer and that was it. Yes, I know you can set up a POP account to leave mail on the server and basically designate one device/computer as the master account where if you delete email it also is deleted from the server and so on, but the issue is that you are still working with a locally stored copy of all your email and it just does not sync between devices. Also, if I send an important message or reply to a message from my iPhone, then I want that message to show it's been replied to and I want the reply I sent in my Sent folder no matter whether I am doing mail on one of my 3 computers (2 at work and my laptop at home) or my iPhone. POP will not do this, if I reply from one computer than the sent message is on that computer and it won't be on the other devices. Then there is the issue of contacts. POP is for

email and contacts are out of the picture completely. In my opinion POP just
does not do the job any more no matter how you set it up or try to work around
its limitations.

I know you can still configure your gmail account to use POP, not sure if you
can even set up an Outlook.com account as a POP account and, of course, why
would you. Exchange active sync beautifully syncs your email and contacts and,
if you want, calendars and reminders, and while it has a few limitations for
the most part it's a pretty nice experience. All you do is set up your account
whether it's on the PC or your iOS device(s) and all your email and your
contacts are there.
I'm sure gmail when set up with IMAP works well and maybe if I had spend as
much time with it as I have with Outlook.com I'd like it better, but I just
prefer the ability to make folders and move messages into those over gmail's
way of applying labels to organize my email. I also don't like the approach of
the All Mail label or whatever it is called where messages still are kept even
if you delete them from your Inbox and, I think, also your Trash folder.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi Sieghard.
You're right... but it's just the case now of switching to another email
address. Which, I really don't feel like doing. lol.
But you make a good point. Especially with the all mail folder. When I delete a
message... and then empty my trash... I want the mail to be gone. Not still
sitting in another folder. The only reason I swiched to gmail was because my
cox email got hacked.
To keep this message on topic... I guess with IOS 9 they changed the ability
for gmail users to allow all messages to show up in the inbox that are also in
the inbox on the server.

Hi,

Is anyone else having problems with Tap Tap See? Every time I take a

Re: showing more mail?

2015-11-15 Thread rajmund
Hello,
Actually, if you open basic HTML, open settings, forwarding and POP IMAP,
there's a combo bon, which allows you to specify wha to do with POP's email,
once received. GMAIL is qrhaps, the only one, where just by toggling a check
bon within a client, no difference will occur. At least this is the case with
note takers. However, the combo box changed this. I personally have delete
mail's copy, and ifworks seamlessly. .

Interesting. I don't recall any problems with downloading books on Wi-Fi, which
is where I download all of my books. I will try the making sure the edit field

whatever. At least it's an easy fix. And you were right. I so wish they would
bring back the action rotor to the delete function. It was great.

Re: Apple verification issue has resurfaced

2015-11-15 Thread Kathy Brandt
It never tells me about not liking the password. I answer my security questions
correctly when I go to devices in settings, and I did go to the web, with no
incident. To appleid.com. My password is a word in a foreign language beginning
in uppercase and ending in numbers; there Shouldn't be a security issue with
that.
Someone at the Apple Store today said he has the same issue, when ever he
powers on his phone. He just says not now. I have done this a few times. I am
still able to update apps, etc.
On Nov 15, 2015, at 4:17 AM, M. Taylor wrote:

Hello Harry,

You're quite welcome for the advice but I suggest that you not use low power
mode until the phone suggest that you do so. Enabling low power mode greatly
restricts the device's capability.

Thanks, Mark! I followed your advice plus changed auto lock to 30 seconds and
turned on low power mode - and now the screen turns itself off as normal!

RE: showing more mail?

2015-11-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Jennifer,

I know a few people still think POP has a place in today's modern era where
people often have their email accounts set up on multiple devices including
maybe a PC/Laptop/Mac, an iPhone and/or iPad and so on.
I personally switched to Hotmail/Outlook.com 6 years ago when I first started
using smartphones and an iPod Touch because POP to me is a protocol for when
people had one computer and that was it. Yes, I know you can set up a POP
account to leave mail on the server and basically designate one device/computer
as the master account where if you delete email it also is deleted from the
server and so on, but the issue is that you are still working with a locally
stored copy of all your email and it just does not sync between devices. Also,
if I send an important message or reply to a message from my iPhone, then I
want that message to show it's been replied to and I want the reply I sent in
my Sent folder no matter whether I am doing mail on one of my 3 computers (2 at
work and my laptop at home) or my iPhone. POP will not do this, if I reply
from one computer than the sent message is on that computer and it won't be on
the other devices. Then there is the issue of contacts. POP is for email and
contacts are out of the picture completely. In my opinion POP just does not do
the job any more no matter how you set it up or try to work around its
limitations.

Regards,
Sieghard

This isn't true. If you're using IMAP with Gmail, you do still see all
of the messages on your server. I would assume that's also true with
POP, but remember with POP, if you download your messages to one system
then you may have it set up to delete those messages from the server.

I've usually seen the option to leave a message on the server after
downloading in the client options and not the server settings. It would
be a good idea to check this setting on your various clients.

Also, on your phone settings, do you have it set to archive or delete?

Thanks.

4S now with iOS9.1

2015-11-15 Thread Gerardo Corripio

 HI guys
Wow thanks for all your encouragement both good and bad! I've finally
taken the plunge and upgraded my iOS to 9.1! It isn't too bad at all!
though I had to restart the phone two or three times since at first it
was kind of sluggish, and the weather app kept on saying that it
couldn't find info on my current location even though I've got no
SimCard yet but am on WiFi, thus the Notification Weather icon wasn't
there! Anyway now it's all fixed up, and I'm sure happy I upgraded!
since I felt kind of weird working with such and old iOS, that maybe
most of you guys no longer use (I'm talking of iOS7.1.1 with which the
4S came originally) and so I thought sooner or later I'll have to update
if I want to or not! So thanks again for your words of wisdom! Now comes
to learn all Ican from in this case iOS7.1.1 to nine point one!

RE: showing more mail?

2015-11-15 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Jennifer,

You might want to log in to your Gmail from a computer and double check your
settings. If you have it set to delete from the server after you download the
message, then which ever device downloads it will have the only copy of the
message.

Also, on your phone settings, do you have it set to archive or delete?
If you want it gone from your phone when you delete it and empty the trash,
then make sure you have it set to delete and not archive.

HTH,
Richard

Hi Sieghard.
You're right... but it's just the case now of switching to another email
address. Which, I really don't feel like doing. lol.
But you make a good point. Especially with the all mail folder. When I delete a
message... and then empty my trash... I want the mail to be gone. Not still
sitting in another folder. The only reason I swiched to gmail was because my
cox email got hacked.
To keep this message on topic... I guess with IOS 9 they changed the ability
for gmail users to allow all messages to show up in the inbox that are also in
the inbox on the server.
