Re: Kindle ap question

2016-01-05 Thread Arnold Schmidt
I do not know of a way to mark it as having been read. When it says archived,
it stays on the Kindle server, but is no longer on your phone.

  Subject: Kindle ap question

When I first purchase a kindle book I tell it to go to my iphone. I
currently have all of my kindle books in archives and download a few to read at
a time. After reading the book it goes back into archives if I swipe down.
However, there deson’t seem to be any notation on the archives list that the
book has been read. Is there any way of deleting the book from my phone but
not from my kindle library, or somewhere else I can send the book once read so
I can keep it but not get confused?

Re: I can't listen to audio games on NFL Mobile.

2016-01-05 Thread Alan Paganelli
I'v just opened up the NFL app on my iPhone 5s. When the app opens now, it's a
blank screen. I've tried resetting my phone etc. No joy. So I guess I'm
going to have to try to listen to the games on my old transister radio that I
still have from the 60s or maybe it was the 70's. Getting old sucks so take my
advice and don't do it! LOL!

By using the normal navigation to get to the folder and using VO+spacebar to
open the folder and the same keystroke to activate the app you want.
You can also press the up and down arrows together to activate an item.

 Morning all

I currently have the above paired to both my iPad Mini 2 and iPod Touch

While I like the keyboard, I don't think all VO commands work, especially
those requiring use of the "FN" or "Function" key. When I press it with
another key, it behaves as if the "FN" or "Function" key has not been
pressed in the first place. Is this a known problem with this keyboard.
Or, god forbid, have I got a faulty one without realising? All other
keyboard commands, both VO and iOS, seem to work just fine. In fact, I am
using this to compose this message. I only got this keyboard since it can
be cheaper than even Apple's own and other third party keyboards currently
 available.

Any responses greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

You can get the games on Tune in radio but only if you pay for the premium
package. I don't know what it costs.

 Hi.

I was eagerly looking forward to hearing the Bengals game on NFL Mobile.
I did what I usually do, but when I tapped on the Bengals Broadcast,
nothing happened. This sometimes happens, but usually selecting the other
team’s feed works. I did this, and there was no audio. I tried other
games, and got the same result. I then went to a prior week where I know
the audio feed was working, and it didn’t. I then chose the NFL Now tab,
and selected something to play, and it did. I closed the app and
restarted it with no change. I then powered down my iPhone 5C, and still
no change. I did a reboot by holding the power and home buttons, and no
change. Finally, I signed out and back into the app, and things still
 don’t work.

Anybody else having problems? Oh yeah, I have a good WI-FI connection.
Also, I tried Tunein, and that app worked. I have no idea what’s
happening. I haven’t installed any new apps on my iPhone, and it was
 working this past Monday night.

One final question. How do I contact the NFL to see if there’s something
going on? I have a number for nfl.com, but last time I called it I was on
hold for over two hours. They do give an email address to use, but there
are two problems with this method of contacting them. First, they say
they’ll contact you within days, and second, and more importantly, I get a
message that the address is not valid.

 Help!

Re: I was able to send my issue with the NFL Mobile app through the contact form on nfl.com

2016-01-05 Thread Alan Paganelli
For me, it's the NFL Mobile app on my iPhone and iPad. Oddly enough,
everything else in the app works. It's just that I can't listen to any of the
games I paid a hundred bucks for. I don't want to listen to games on my
Windows 10 laptop. I want to listen to them on my iPad or iPhone so I'm not
tied to a 17.3 inch laptop that I would not want to hump around.

Re: Kindle ap question

2016-01-05 Thread Chuck Dean
When you're in the Kindle app, at the bottom, there are two buttons. One says
cloud, and one says device. If you select the device option, it will only show
books that are downloaded to the device. All archive books are in the cloud.

So, if you choose the device option, after you read a book, and then archive
it, it will not show on the screen.

I hope this helps,

I wonder what it would show if I were in Chicago. LOL! Thanks so much for

Hello, you can download a free version of the Apple Watch users guide from
iBooks. It's very helpful, and has a lot of great information. It's about a
two-hour read.

Re: I can't listen to audio games on NFL Mobile.

2016-01-05 Thread Daniel Miller
Hi. You can still listen to games, the problem is they changed the method of
doing so. Once you tap on a lbroadcast, there's a play button that shows up
that you have to tap. Unfortunately, the button isn't accessible, nor does it
even show up visually, with voiceover enabled.

Re: Putting a verse of Scripture on the homepage of my iPhone

2016-01-05 Thread Traci Duncan
Hi, you got me interested in this idea.

Are you looking to have a text file on your home screen? An audio file?

An option that might help you create this is the app workflow.

I did some Googling around & there are bible wallpaper apps for the lock
screen, but I am not sure if any of them would contain text or only be an image.

Re: I'm stumped with listening to audio on the NFL Mobile app.

2016-01-05 Thread Wayne Merritt
I use one of the many Pro Football apps until October or November when
I realized that I wasn't getting all the games that I wanted to get,
mainly due to stations/teams being blocked from streaming by the
league. I then started a 7 day trial with TuneIn Radio Premium and
have been using it ever since. This gets you access to all NFL and MLB
games, plus audio books and streaming music for $8 a month in US
dollars. I'm not sure if I will continue in the off season but it has
been great being able to listen to any team broadcast I wanted to
hear. Recently they added NHL game streaming to their app, though this
is not in the premium section so I don't know if it is available to
anyone. Hopefully they will add NBA game streaming at some point, that
would be good to have.

Re: apple TV or google chromecast?Apple TV or Google Chromecast?

2016-01-05 Thread Christina C.
This is just my opinion, if you are very invested in apple’s products and
services and money is not an issue, you should purchase an apple TV. However,
if you are using google music and things like that and money is an issue you
should look more in depth with the chrome cast. We don’t own the newest chrome
cast but I had lots of difficulty getting the chrome cast very useable. One
nice thing about the chrome cast is that it can be very travel friendly and so
my husband uses it on business trips and even for business presentations but he
uses an Android device. We personally did not find that we experienced the same
level of ease of use with my iPhone. That was a year ago of course. I would not
mind having a new one for travel since it is supposed to work with Netflix.
However, at home, I much much prefer the apple TV. I love using it with apple
music. I just feel that I can do a lot more with my apple TV. I think even if
you were to get a great deal on a third Generation Apple TV you would be able
to enjoy it. Mine got fried by lightening and that’s the only reason I have a
newer one and yes, I do find that I love having Siri on the remote with the
newest apple TV.

I did really want the audio version of the chrome cast for music but as far as
I know, I cannot play apple music to the chrome cast audio. :(

You can delete Cupertino from your native weather app on your phone by just
doing a 1-finger flick up to delete and tapping. Once you do that, it will no

As far as the seconds displaying on your watch face, this is determined by
the clock face you have chosen. To change clock faces, just press down with
one finger when on your clock face. When the screen appears, you can flick
left and right through the different clock faces. When you have found the one
you want, first flick down with one finger and double tap on customize to

land back on your clock face. Now everything should be as you just set it.

As far as being out of range of your phone, your time will still display.
You will just not get notifications, and some of your complications like next
calendar event and some apps on your watch might not work since they sync to
your phone to get the necessary information.

I hope all of this helps!! I learned a lot by listening to the AppleVis

If you mean an iPod Touch, the the procedure is the same as with any other
i-device running iOS. Double tapp and hold on the desired app icon. Wait till
you hear a three chime tone and then drag your finger around to where you wish
to move the app. To another screen by dragging it to the edge of the device and
waiting for the sound indicator to notify you of the screen change or on to a
folder and wait for the folder to open. Again, with a destinctive sound letting
you know that the folder is openning per say. Press the home button to get out
of that edit mode where you can rearrange apps or delete them.

I forgot about that game last night. My son in law is a Packers fan so I tease
him every chance I get like when the Bears win which didn't happen very much in
2015. Hopefully the 2016 season will be better. Oh great! now I'm sounding

I’ve tried all I can think of, and I can’t get the audio feeds in the

uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and it didn’t work. I then thought that
maybe the site was having issues with their audio feeds, so I went to it on my
PC, and I was able to stream a feed. I then decided to contact nfl.com and ask
about their mobile app, but I can’t fill out the form.

I have two basic questions. First, is the app working for others?
Second, if so, how can I contact nfl.com to resolve my issue?

Thankfully the games I wanted to hear are on local radio, but I’d prefer
to hear them on the app.

  Thanks for any info.

One for 8 in the morning repeating every day, and one at 8 PM repeating every

Radios still work. Sometimes old school is better. i know that NFL Audio Pass
used to charge extra for playoff games, which seemed stupid to me because they

I'v just opened up the NFL app on my iPhone 5s. When the app opens now, it's a
blank screen. I've tried resetting my phone etc. No joy. So I guess I'm
going to have to try to listen to the games on my old transister radio that I
still have from the 60s or maybe it was the 70's. Getting old sucks so take my
advice and don't do it! LOL!

Hi.

I was eagerly looking forward to hearing the Bengals game on NFL Mobile. I
did what I usually do, but when I tapped on the Bengals Broadcast, nothing
happened. This sometimes happens, but usually selecting the other team’s feed
works. I did this, and there was no audio. I tried other games, and got the
same result. I then went to a prior week where I know the audio feed was
working, and it didn’t. I then chose the NFL Now tab, and selected something
to play, and it did. I closed the app and restarted it with no change. I then
powered down my iPhone 5C, and still no change. I did a reboot by holding the
power and home buttons, and no change. Finally, I signed out and back into the
app, and things still don’t work.

Anybody else having problems? Oh yeah, I have a good WI-FI connection.
Also, I tried Tunein, and that app worked. I have no idea what’s happening. I
haven’t installed any new apps on my iPhone, and it was working this past
Monday night.

One final question. How do I contact the NFL to see if there’s something
going on? I have a number for nfl.com, but last time I called it I was on hold
for over two hours. They do give an email address to use, but there are two
problems with this method of contacting them. First, they say they’ll contact
you within days, and second, and more importantly, I get a message that the
address is not valid.

Help!

Re: Talking goggles

2016-01-05 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Simon,

Talking Goggles comes in two versions: the free one with ads, and the very
cheap paid one without ads. It works in two modes: video or still camera.
It’s very simple to use and when set to video, works in real time. You just
click on Record and point the camera to the thing you need to identify. It
reads bits of labels on jars and boxes, identifies books, reads short pieces of
text and translates them into the chosen language. It also identifies
well-known pictures. So, if you have placemats with famous paintings on them,
it can tell you which is which.
Talking Goggles is an app I don’t ever want to be without.

Cheers,

Anne

Artificial vision app AIPoly has been released

2016-01-05 Thread Ben Mustill-Rose
Hi all,

AIPoly (pronounced A I Poly) was released a couple of days ago;
unfortunately the announcement ended up in my spam folder, so I only
saw it this morning.

For anyone who doesn't remember, a few months ago, AIPoly received a
fairly large amount of media coverage with the usual hard-hitting
headlines like "app allows blind people to see" and then as is usually
the case we heard next to nothing about it. However, unlike most other
projects like this, the app is actually available in the app store
right now & it does sort of work.
Here is a good article that gives some background:
http://techcrunch.com/2015/08/17/aipoly-puts-machine-vision-in-the-hands-of-the-visually-impaired/

I'm not one for writing up lengthy tutorials, but since I found the
app a bit confusing I've provided some pointers below:

After you have swiped through the tutorial you will be on the main
screen. To start recognizing objects, point the device at an object
and press the "toggle AIPoly" button. You will receive no feedback
what so ever. When this button is pressed the device will constantly
be trying to recognize things - E.G. you are able to move the device
around & it will automatically try to recognize whatever is in front
of it.
After a few seconds, feel just under the middle of the screen and you
should find out what AIPoly thinks the object is. If focus remains on
this element future objects will sometimes be spoken but sometimes
not, so it's best to keep feeling around the same area.
The "pencil" button is used to teach AIPoly about an object although
I've yet to give this a go.
For me, it takes about 5 seconds for an object to be recognized, but
as I say, you receive no feedback at all, so it's hard to know when
it's safe to move the phone away and when a result is returned.

The app definitely has a lot of potential and since it's free you
can't really beat the price, but the user experience needs quite a bit
of work.

Cheers,
Ben.

This is just my opinion, if you are very invested in apple’s products and

if you are using google music and things like that and money is an issue you
should look more in depth with the chrome cast. We don’t own the newest chrome

nice thing about the chrome cast is that it can be very travel friendly and so
my husband uses it on business trips and even for business presentations but he
uses an Android device.

Re: Artificial vision app AIPoly has been released

2016-01-05 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Aipoly shouldn’t be compared to Goggles because AIpoly can’t do Ocr the way
Goggles does. What AIpoly does is to describe an object such as clock,
headphones and so on and in certain cases can even tell for example what
headphones according to their demo film and then it can read colors as well. It
can’t however read text like Goggles can. I wish it could, would be so cool if
you actually could read displays that normally can’t be read by us such as on
digital recorders, coffee machines, stoves etc. Goggles works sorta, but it’s
slow and in many cases you don’t get any results at all. I have a stove on
which there’s a display that in principle can be read by Goggles and if a
sighted person aims the camera it reads it out, sorta but if i try aiming,
nothing gets read at all.

LOL, I selected the Mickey Mouse face. It shows the time with out the seconds
as the description says Mickey taps his foot to keep there seconds. I figured
I can't see him tap his foot so that probably wouldn't be showing the seconds
and I was right. So now I get the time and temperature and Cupertino too! LOL!
I wonder what it would show if I were in Chicago. LOL! Thanks so much for
your help. It's greatly appreciated.

As far as Cupertino, unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about this.
For some reason, some Apple devices focus on Cupertino when you are in the
Pacific Time Zone instead of your actual location. I have read articles where
other devices like iPads also do the same thing.

As far as the seconds displaying on your watch face, this is determined by the
clock face you have chosen. To change clock faces, just press down with one
finger when on your clock face. When the screen appears, you can flick left
and right through the different clock faces. When you have found the one you
want, first flick down with one finger and double tap on customize to choose
what complications you want to appear on your clock face. On the complications
screen, you can flick down on each complication to change it to what you want
each one to be, like current temperature, next calendar event, battery level,
and so on. Once you have your complications set, just press the crown to go
back to the clock face screen. You should land back on the clock face you had
chosen. Just flick down to activate to set your clock face and land back on
your clock face. Now everything should be as you just set it.

As far as being out of range of your phone, your time will still display. You
will just not get notifications, and some of your complications like next
calendar event and some apps on your watch might not work since they sync to
your phone to get the necessary information.

I hope all of this helps!! I learned a lot by listening to the AppleVis
podcast about the different functions of the watch.

I don't need that much information. My wife just asked me to ask all of you

I said my guess is as soon as you got a certain distance from your iPhone,

I’m typically pretty decent at figuring this stuff out, but for some
reason, I’m just not getting it. So, I have definitely and successfully
selected my default location in the Weather app on my iPhone, and weather is
listed in “complications” within the Watch app on the phone, but I can’t seem
to figure out how to make it so that I can dial forward and backward in time to
see the progression in temperature. I did finally manage to somehow get come
complications to show on my clock face, don’t ask me how, but I’m not sure how
the watch decided which complications to show. There is one displaying the
temperature, but again, I can’t seem to figure out what I need to do to make it
so I can scroll forward and back.

Personally, I would love to get Dark Sky setup as a complication on my clock
face, which is supposed to show the temperature and rain

Hi all,

AIPoly (pronounced A I Poly) was released a couple of days ago;
unfortunately the announcement ended up in my spam folder, so I only
saw it this morning.

Here is a good article that gives some background:
http://techcrunch.com/2015/08/17/aipoly-puts-machine-vision-in-the-han
ds-of-the-visually-impaired/

The app definitely has a lot of potential and since it's free you
can't really beat the price, but the user experience needs quite a bit
of work.

Cheers,
Ben.

I liked the fact that I could save a few dollars and not pay for the

I've been playing with this app for about 15 minutes, and I am very impressed!
It recognizes about 85% of the objects that I pointed it at. Including my
guitar, printer, flatscreen TV, and thermostat.

It did think that my cat was a Labrador however, but the cat wasn't offended.

I found that wants it recognizes an object if you leave the focus on the text
of the object, it will automatically stay there and all you have to do is point
the camera at different objects and wait a few seconds for it to announce what
it is.
For a first version of an app, this is really remarkable. I can't wait to see
what improvements calm in the future!

something to use during a meeting to quickly record my own notes

Here's to A T & T Navigator, Letting Go Is Hard To Do (smile)

2016-01-05 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

Well, I must truly believe in Apple Maps as, for the first time since 2009,
I cancelled my A T & T Navigator subscription.

To be quite honest, I find the cancellation a little unsettling as I found a
great deal of comfort in knowing that I had the subscription to a tried and
true GPS navigation service but, as I have come to depend on either Apple
Maps or Seeing Eye GPS over 90% of the time, when traveling, I could not, in
good conscience continue to pay $9.95 per month for a service which I now
rarely use.

So, here's to A T & T Navigator, Letting Go Is Hard To Do (smile).

Mark
