emoticons on iPhone

2016-12-02 Thread Gianni
Hi,
I have a strange question. I'm looking for specific emoticons on the iPhone
keyboard. I'm looking for Australian animals, like wombats for example. Does
anyone know how to get them?

Maybe Apple wants people to purchase a Mac or iPhone/iPad for email and web

Hello,
If you can't remember your security questions, and can't access the email,

notification center problem

2016-12-02 Thread Chris Chaffin
Hello all,
Need a little help.
On my iPhone 6, I went to the notification center, once I got down to the
bottom of my notifications, I knew that there was more, so I did a three finger
swipe up and it told me page 8 of 10. But when I did a swipe down to read more
notifications, all of my notifications had disappeared.
I have the search and dictate button at the top, and then I have where it tells
you what page you are on. No matter what I do, I can not get my notifications
back!! If I hit the home button to go to my home page, then go back to my
notification center, the page is still totally blank.
Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

Hi. I have just placed an order for a Roomba 980 and please see below the reply
I received from Irobot regarding accessibility of the app. Seems very positive
:-).

 Dear Mr. Holdstock,

Thank you for contacting the iRobot Customer Care.

We are happy to hear that you are interested in our products.

The iRobot is aware about the voice-over which is available on the Apple mobile
devices and we are working to improve the iRobot Home App and to make it easier
to use for the visually impaired people.

I have forwarded your e-mail to our development department. The Home App is
under constant development and it is updated regularly. I will inform you as
soon as possible if there is new update particularly of the voice-over
technology.

I would also like to thank you for your feedback, it is very important and will
help to improve the robot's features even further.

Kind regards,

Sibin

Hi,

Yes, I have had both Roombas and now a Neato Connected. The Roombas were
pre the most recent incarnation, thus, not running with an app. So, I can't
speak to that side of things. I always loved my Roombas, but the Neato is,
really, a new generation and incredibly effective and efficient! When I first
downloaded the app, it was accessible up to about 90 percent, only the battery
status was not viewable. Unfortunately, the last two versions allow for only
the most simple of commands, though, the battery status is now viewable. This
means that they can do it, obviously, they just need to commit to
accessibility. I tried to write them a report re this, but found, ironically,
that my iPhone 6, running the latest version of IOS, would not write in the
edit field on their support page! This is an IOS problem and not a Neato one. I
suppose we just have to learn to accept the accessibility is something that we
need to keep reminding the various developers about. However, and I imagine
that this applies to Roomba too! The Neato connected is usable, at its most
basic level, just by pressing one or other of the two buttons. It can be used,
without the app and it will do its job, you just have less control over modes
etc. Luckily, I have the original app on my iPhone 4s, so can do everything,
including seeing the battery status on my 6. Just as an aside, I have found,
since IOS 10, I have been using my 4s more and more, which is running 9x. more
than anything, I wish we could, easily, revert to previous versions of apps
when we discover new accessibility issues. I don't have the use of a computer,
using my iPhone, independently, so iTunes backups are not a possibility for me
and I don't really like the Cloud

In short, speaking for the Neato, not having the latest Roomba, we can,
certainly, use it, but for full functionality, the app needs to be rewritten
with accessibility in mind. However, I would like to say that the Neato is the
easiest of all the Robot Vacuums, that I have seen or read about, to maintain,
empty and find. It has an excellent navigation system, better than my own! and,
almost, seems to have its own character!! I love the way it takes a running
jump when it encounters a particularly difficult threash-hold, going into my
porch. And when it gets itself into a tight place, it is wonderful to see it
lift its bottom and try to extract itself, almost virtically!

I would encourage all owners of these divices to contact, IOS being capable,
the developers to tell them that you are a VIP owner and need them to be aware
of VO when putting out app updates.

Happy hoovering! Sandy.

It may have been developed by a young man (to me 17 or 18 is not a kids any
more) but I'm sure he doesn't control the actual descriptions. I don't know
how the app does what it does, but it is obviously comparing the pictures to
some sort of database and then it makes intelligent choices as to what it

I think others are making more out of this than was intended.

It is very humorous and should be taken that way.

Honesty is, after all, the best policy.

I was sent an image that KNFB Reader could not get any words from, but iDentifi

The image was a sign at a store that said:

2016-12-02 Thread Jewel
If you have read my recent messages to iPhone, you will be aware that my latest
game is iAssociate,
and one learns some very interesting, though, probably useless facts from it;
however, I did
mention that, although it seemed that I was wasting hours upon hours when I
could be putting them to
more productive purposes, that one of those, seemingly, useless facts that I
was squirreling away,
could, one day, be worth a million dollars, but I digress! one of the
questions I saw last night
was: 7 letters: associated with plant:Lactuca Sativa. The first 4
letters: L a c t" made me
think that it might have something to do with milk: milk thistle perhaps, but
it was only 1 word.
I looked it up this morning and it is LETTUCE, which, and this may surprise
you, is a member of the
daisy family!
What similarity is there between a daisy and a lettuce? is the burning question
of the day!

RE: Apple watch's Bluetooth capabilities

2016-12-02 Thread Pablo C. Morales
Yes, I agree that a virtual keyboard in that little screen makes no sense.
However if the apple watch has wifi capability, my iPhone needs to be connected
to the wifi first, and this settings are used for the apple watch. Now I have a
couple of questions based in this situation.

The apple watch keep permanently the wifi configurations stored in the apple
watch?

Or it needs always the iPhone around to be able to connect to a wifi. Once the
iPhone is connected to the wifi, the settings of this wifi are transferred to
the apple watch, or these settings needs to be transfer every time?

Thanks

No, I don't think so, the watch connects to the same network your phone is on
so there is no actual WiFi settings on the watch itself.

Also, note that there is no on-screen keyboard, you can reply to text messages
(or send them) using SIRI and SIRI alone.

There also is no phone keypad which in my opinion is stupid and unexplainable
to me since there is a keypad on the screen to enter your security code for
when the watch is not on your arm. When it's on your arm you can unlock it the
first time simply by unlocking your iPhone with touch Id, consequently you
don't have to unlock the watch as long as it stays on your arm. What I don't
get is why there is no phone DialPad if it clearly is possible to have a
functional keypad on the screen. Granted you don't often need it, but what if
you want to make a call with the watch where you have to navigate even a simple
menu like "Press 1 for Customer Servive" or "Press 2 for Technical Support".

Sandy.

Subject: Re: Roomba 980 is the iRobot app accessible?

Sandy.

Re: Roomba 980 is the iRobot app accessible?

2016-12-02 Thread pholdstock

Sibin

Hi Ron, hi Gary,

I'm the creator of the app that locates traffic light positions and alerts the
user when nearby, called City Lights.

Hey Ron, regarding your issue on the app, please check if you have the latest
version of the app because Montreal was added in the latest update about 13
hours ago Eastern European time zone.

Regarding your usage issue, you will need to have the app running while you
wake, the app won't turn off or stop unless you press the home button of the
iPhone. This was the only way i could think of to prevent dramatic battery loss
otherwise the app had to use your location all the time and kill the battery
life.

Hey Gary, in the next update i will include Denton the city in Texas, hope you
can use it soon.

Kind regards,

Right now, the only way is to copy it to the clipboard with the three-finger
quadruple tap.
Your default VoiceOver voice will then repeat it, plus you could then paste
that somewhere in an edit box if you wish.

If you want to send a note to the developer requesting various tweaks, go to:

Louanna already mentioned that.
I had not ever used the expand thread and frankly didn’t even know it was there.
I thought I would save the list and research it on my own.
Well, I think I’ll ask here next time since Apple didn’t even suggest that easy
way to do this.

Hi Richard,

Why not put focus on the main thread (don't open it) and then flick down with
one finger to "Expand Thread". Once you double tap on that you can flick right
through all messages in the thread and use the normal swipe down or up just
like on a single message to put focus on Delete, double tap and you are only
deleting that message.

Subject: Deleting messages from a thread without deleting the entire thread

Greetings,
Bear with me as this is a little lengthy.

I couldn't figure out how to delete messages from a thread without deleting the
entire thread. The only way I could find was to turn off threading, then
delete the messages I didn't want to keep, then turn threading back on.

I first wrote to Apple accessibility, but the steps they gave me didn't really
work, though If I had kept swiping right, they probably would have, but I ran
out of patience with swiping. I will explain that later.
I called Apple Accessibility, and found a very helpful guy. He couldn't figure
it out either.
He then talked with the guy who had responded to my Email. He still was having
difficulty.
Then, I accidentally deleted a single message but had no idea how.

I found another thread, and found that if I followed the steps on this one,
after 13 swipes to the right, yes, count them, 13; I found the more actions
button. Double tapped, and then I could trash the one message.

I found a shorter way. Partly, because another message I tried that with I
probably would have had to swipe a lot more than 13 times.

The shorter way, is to follow these steps.

Open the thread.
Make sure the rotor is on messages.
Flick down to the message you want to delete from the thread.
Now, touch at the bottom left corner on Mark message--do not double tap--just
touch to get focus there.
Flick left once, then flick right twice, and you will be on the More Actions
button.
Double tap.
You will have these choices: Reply, Flag, Trash.
Double tap on Trash, and only that one message will be deleted.

The man I spoke with is going to write this up and suggest they at the very
least make the instructions more clear.
I'm hoping they can just make that More Actions button easier to get to.

HTH,
Richard

Hi,

YOur friend just needs an email address. If they don't have one, they can sign

ID.

RE: Identifi

2016-12-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It may have been developed by a young man (to me 17 or 18 is not a kids any
more) but I'm sure he doesn't control the actual descriptions. I don't know how
the app does what it does, but it is obviously comparing the pictures to some
sort of database and then it makes intelligent choices as to what it "sees".

RE: Deleting messages from a thread without deleting the entire thread

2016-12-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Richard,

Why not put focus on the main thread (don't open it) and then flick down with
one finger to "Expand Thread". Once you double tap on that you can flick right
through all messages in the thread and use the normal swipe down or up just
like on a single message to put focus on Delete, double tap and you are only
deleting that message.

Regards,
Sieghard

HTH,
Richard

RE: New app for finding traffic lights

2016-12-02 Thread Gary Bowers
Ron,

Thanks for your comments. Some people in an O group were excited about the
app, but your review is the only one I've seen from someone who has actually
tried it.

I should have said in my original message that I knew of no one who has
personally tried the thing.

And it seemed like such a good idea!

Thanks again!

Hi Gary,

I'm in Montreal and tried it yesterday. A friend of mine also tried it about
10 miles from my place, also in Montreal and got the same results. For now,
you are not missing anything. It doesn't work except in very rare cases. At
first look, it seems like the phone has to be unlocked and it also looks like
you have to be in that app. I noticed that, with this app open, my Blind
Square didn't work at all.

RE: Deleting messages from a thread without deleting the entire thread

2016-12-02 Thread Richard Turner
Well, I should have asked here first.
That is certainly easier.

I will let Apple Accessibility know that it is that simple.

Thank you very much,

I first wrote to Apple accessibility, but the steps they gave me didn't really

Hi Richard,

Screen curtain does not affect the front facing camera either. Just take a
selfi and ask somebody to look at it, or, in order to proof that iDentifi
doesn’t care about screen curtain, take a selfi or a picture with the main
Camera app with camera switched to front and then import that picture with
iDentifi, I guaranty that it will describe it just fine.

Brett,
i just did another test in a very dark room with the flash set to automatic and
the screen curtain on.
I got a very good result in about 10 seconds with it set to high accuracy.
This is on my 5s running iOS 10.1.1.
Do you have anyone around who could test using your phone?
There is no way I can possibly imagine that the screen curtain could make any
difference while using the back facing camera, which is what it defaults to
every time.
I did try using the front facing camera, but got nothing. The next time I hit
take photo, the camera was set to the back facing, so unless you are somehow
accidentally toggling the camera to front facing every time you use the screen
curtain, which I don't think is possible, you are doing something different
when the screen curtain is on.

The screen curtain doesn't effect the back facing camera.

I have done most of my pictures, including the ones set to text, with the

Hi Robbert,

I am pretty sure it adjusts the focus to highlight what is corrently in the
foreground, presumably to correct for any movement when taking the picture.

Also for those people who aren't getting any results with this app, before
launching the app, be sure to toggle off The screen curtain.

Cheers Brett.

After taking a picture, one of the choices says something like focus locked

tell me the purpose of this choice.

Re: Identifi

2016-12-02 Thread Sherrie
I was really happy that it actually read out the name from a round
supplement bottle in pretty low light. Much better than KNFB. And it did a
good job on pictures, too. But it was brutally honest! The description for
a picture of me, my husband, my sister and her husband was "old people
couples picture". I laughed until I cried!

Guess the gray hair gave it away!

Hi Rich,

The only way I know of is to use the custom label feature of iOS which is a
2-finger double tap and hold. Unfortunately I have no idea how you do this on a
braille display/keyboard. You can rename apps with this, but in the app
switcher, for example, the apps may appear the old/original way and in some
situations I guess it is possible that the label doesn’t stick and you may have
to redo it.

RE: KNFB settings, was iDentifi Question

2016-12-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Same here, KNFB Reader doesn’t really have a lot of settings to adjust except
what Richard already mentioned, flash and document type. I personally like to
set the Profile to automatic picture. This way I just place my phone flat on
the page, make sure the upper right corner where the camera is located is
approximately in the middle of the page and that the phone is straight/parallel
to the edge, then I lift it straight up quite quickly to about 10 inches or a
foot above the page. If the profile is set to automatic KNFB Reader will say
“Text Detected” after a second or so, I then just hold the phone still and a
second or two later the picture is taken automatically and I don’t have to tap
anywhere. You may want to get sighted help to practice this because you have to
have a feel for how high to lift the phone and it’s a good idea if somebody is
there who can tell you if you are lifting it straight up because obviously if
you move it to the left or right or up or down you may not get the entire page,
same thing happens if you tilt it, but you can turn on tilt guidance to help
with that.

Sieghard

The main setting I might change is document type. It tends to default to
multi-column, which may work fine in most situations, but if I don't get good
results, I will change to single column.
Otherwise, keeping the flash set to automatic, is about all I mess with.
If I find something else I've changed, I will let you know. But I get generally
excellent results.
The difference was yesterday, in a dark room when I tried the back of a book.
then, it did a very bad job, while the iDentifi app did an excellent job.
But, that is the exception.

Andrew,
Others may have different ideas, but what works best for me when using KNFB
Reader, when not using a stand, is to put the phone flat on the document I want
to scan with the camera and document going in the same direction, ie, the long
side of the phone is parallel with the long side of the document.
Also, I keep the flash set to automatic. I make sure the corner where the
camera is located is about dead center on the document.
Then, using both hands, I lift the phone about 11 or 12 inches above the
document keeping it as level as I can.
Then I use the up volume button to take the picture.
Once you begin getting consistently good results, if you have steady hands, you
can probably do this one handed and not have to start with the phone flat on
the document.

The screen curtain doesn't effect the back facing camera.

I have done most of my pictures, including the ones set to text, with the
screen curtain on.

Hi Robbert,

I am pretty sure it adjusts the focus to highlight what is corrently in the
foreground, presumably to correct for any movement when taking the picture.

Also for those people who aren't getting any results with this app, before
launching the app, be sure to toggle off The screen curtain.

Cheers Brett.

After taking a picture, one of the choices says something like focus locked
unlocked. This is a toggle and changes to locked when double tapped. Please
tell me the purpose of this choice.

Thanks.

RE: Identifi question

2016-12-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
That just makes no sense, I just tried it again and it worked perfectly with
the screen curtain on and a picture I took. The reason why it is just not
logical to me is that the screen curtain merely puts black pixels all over the
screen, it does not in some way black out the rear or, for the matter, even the
front camera. This came up a few weeks ago and I took several pictures and
video with the rear camera and I took pictures with the front camera and then
made a Facetime Audio call to one of my employees with the screen curtain on.
He said he could see me fine and all the pictures I took were just fine. Like I
said, screen curtain blacks out the screen but not any of the camera lenses and
what iDentifi does is use the main phone camera to take a picture, then the
picture is uploaded to some server and when the result is available it comes
back and is spoken, the screen just doesn't come into play here.

Regards,
Sieghard

Re: direct TV now updated

2016-12-02 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

Ok, I never wanted to put this App on my Iphone. I don't use my Iphone
for such things. I have a few games, mail accounts, the WalMart App, the
Overstock App, TV Guide, and things of this nature.

This is why I got an Ipad. I wanted my music programs and Bard, and such
things like that on there.

However, when Kliphton said what he said about the App on the Iphone, I
felt I had to try it. I have a 5S, with the latest update. But I don't
think that matters. Just thought I would point this out.

Anyway, I really dislike the App on my Ipad! It was very difficult to
deal with, in part to the split screen. I found it very confusing, and
frustrating. So I will be removing it.

Now I will leave it on my Apple tv. Even though, I still struggle with
it on there, to a good degree. But I believe I will get better at
figuring it out.

Now I don't know if this is really accurate or not. But I read on the
reviews of the App, that if you still have an Apple 3rd generation, you
can air play the App on to your tv. I still have one of these in my
living room, for now. So I like the fact that I could watch stuff with
my sighted roommate.

When we tried this with the Ipad last night, he saw no picture, just
info, and buttons. That was odd to me.

Now I do really love the App on my Iphone. I find it so much easier to use.

I do wish, as everyone else, that the channels were labeled. This would
make it so much easier to add the channel to your favorites. I have
noticed that it does go in alphabetical order, which is nice. But who
can memorize all that?

I know it starts with A

I haven't checked out the networks tab yet, to see what I may get. But I
do want to do this.

I did add some channels to my favorites list. But I didn't like the fact
that I had to try and remember how many channels I had to go from the
last channel I added, once I found another channel. That was really a
pain in the you know what.

As for searching for channels, this is great! So far I have found what I
am looking for. At first, I had a hard time finding the channels option.
I kept seeing shows and movies. But I did manage to find it.

But what I can't figure out, and don't get, is this.

Once I search for a channel and play it, I can't seem to add it to my
favorites.

Does anyone know why this is?

If so, how can I go about doing this? What am I missing?

I mean, the whole idea of finding a channel, is to get it added to your
favorites.

Anyway, I'm choosing to stick with this App for a while. Now that I know
that right now it works best on my Iphone, so far. Even if this wasn't
what I wanted.

Thank you for reading. I realize it was kind of long.

Terri

Re: saving mp3 from downcast or podcast app?

2016-12-02 Thread Andrew J. LaPointe
Hi Cris, I just want to thank you for the instructions on downloading
podcasts from downcast to dropbox. I don’t know how I missed how to do this
but, you guided me directly to my answer. Thanks so much. It worked like a
charm. Andy and Shubert

I am not sure if you can save podcast files to Dropbox through the native
podcast app, but I do know that it can be done through Downcast.
To save a podcast episode in Downcast:

* On the screen that contains a list of episodes for a podcast, after each
episode you will see a more details button. Double tap on this button.
* On the next screen, swipe down until you get to the export button.
* When you double tap the export button, you will get a pop up screen. Swipe
until you get to copy to storage provider and double tap.
* This will bring up a screen to choose which storage provider you want to
export too. Be sure you have Dropbox on your device. Dropbox should be one of
the choices, so double tap it.
* It will now bring up a list of all of your dropbox folders. Just double tap
on where you want to save the file.
* You will find a save button near the bottom of the screen, just double tap it
to start the export process.

Hope this helps,

Chris

2016-12-02 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Peter,
I have an ask my sided husband yet, but based on what I am finding in the
android app with talkback, when you are on the screen with networks, talkback
says artwork a bunch of times as you swipe through. My suspicion is that these
are the unlabeled logos for the various networks which you are subscribed.
VoiceOver just isn't seeing them, at all. These are the channels that should be
labeled and aren't. So the screen as it is now is useless for us.

Re: KNFB settings, was iDentifi Question

2016-12-02 Thread Richard Turner

HTH,
Richard

Re: Identifi question

2016-12-02 Thread Richard Turner
Brett,
i just did another test in a very dark room with the flash set to automatic and
the screen curtain on.

Thanks.

Also, I'm not seeing the most recent shows on like ABC. For example,

direct TV now updated

2016-12-02 Thread Kliphton Miller
Okay, so I have tried this app on appleTV, iPad mini, and iPhone. I would have
to say the iPhone was the best experience. Mainly because everything is
grouped together, and easy to get too. 1st off, you must change some settings.
turn auto play off, next episode automatically starting off, and mute sound
when app starts should be off. Once you do this, there are some tabs at the
bottom. Home, shows, movies, and networks. It works great, you go into
movies, and it lists all movies from your available channels, gives you the
year the movie was released, and a description of it. You can even back out and
go by TV show, or network. And the best part about it is, if you set your
favorites on 1 device, they carry over to any device you sign into. I didn’t
like the experience on iPad mini to much, the split screen just confused me,
but I don’t use the iPad mini every day, and someone who does may understand
the layout better. I have already posted about appleTV experience, so won’t
repeat it here. All in all, the experience is fine if you have a little

Re: Identifi question

2016-12-02 Thread Brett
Hi,

For me, I get no results when taking a photo if I have forgotten to toggle off
screen curtain. If I toggle off screen curtain before launching the app, I get
results every time.

At least that's my experience, so I hope it helps others.

Cheerst, Brett.

Cheers Brett.

Sieghard,

Your example shows that the app really is amazing. Very impressive.

I hope your wife is doing well.

Re: Identifi question

2016-12-02 Thread 'Sandratomkins' via VIPhone
hi,
Try a three finger quadruple tap after you have heard the message. this puts
the info into the clipboard but also speaks it out. well, this was my
experience when I took a shot of the newspaper, which identifi read very well!
this may be a sort of workaround for Braille keyboard/display users too! by the
way, I was one of those people who was having no success with the app when I
first got it, now, however, it works, but for me because our Internet is so
slow it takes a long time for results to come back. I am very impressed with
the quality of those results though. also, I much prefer that this is using
technology rather than crowdsourcing. I imagine , the app, which at the moment
is only 7 MB, would have to be huge, were it to work off-line. but for those of
us with the slow Internet connection, it would be marvellous! still, I am
delighted with the app and too congratulate it's developer.

If you tell Siri to place a call, and he actually does it, then you need to
access the keypad to deal with one of those menu systems, how do you do that? I
have found that you can't just call up the phone app if you need to access the
keypad, and when Siri makes a call, he doesn't automatically call that up. Is
there a solution?

Screen curtain makes no difference for taking photos, only makes a
difference for screenshots. I just confirmed this again with this app both
by taking a picture and by importing one, it recognized both just fine.

I am actually more and more impressed with this app. I took a picture of my
guide dog on his dog bed and it said "Yellow lab lying on green dog bed"
which was perfectly accurate.
I then took a picture from about 8 feet away across my bed to the dresser in
the corner which has a few stuffed plush animals on top. It said "Brown
5-tear wooden dresser with plush animals on top" I am not making this up,
the dresser does have 5 drawers.
When I did a bit of a close-up of the animals it gave me the following.
Before I write the result I explain about the animals. Ikea has some awesome
and very inexpensive stuffed animals and when my wife recently spent a few
weeks at the hospital I bought her a few. Among others they had a yellow lab
both a large one which is almost 30 inches long and a small one which is
about 16 inches long, then they had a siberian husky also about the size of
the large yellow lab and an awesome moose which is in between the small and
large dogs, maybe 20 inches. My wife had the yellow lab on the bottom, the
siberian husky sitting on top, the moose was a bit off and down against the
wall and the little dog was behind so not visible very well. Here is what
iDentify gave me:

Yellow lab and siberian husky plush animals on top of wooden cabinet". Mind
you at that point only the top and side of the dresser were in the picture.
When I imported a photo I had of my wife with the husky it told me it was a
"woman in a grey long sleeve T-Shirt with siberian husky plush toy", this
picture was taken weeks ago and also perfectly accurate. Now if the app had
told me it was a "beautiful filipina woman" it would have been too freaky
even though it would of course also be accurate *smile*.

Take care,
Sieghard

Hi Robbert,

I am pretty sure it adjusts the focus to highlight what is corrently in the
foreground, presumably to correct for any movement when taking the picture.

Also for those people who aren't getting any results with this app, before
launching the app, be sure to toggle off The screen curtain.

Cheers Brett.

After taking a picture, one of the choices says something like focus
locked unlocked. This is a toggle and changes to locked when double
tapped. Please tell me the purpose of this choice.

Thanks.
