RE: Following Donald Turmp term using Twitterrifiz?

2016-12-04 Thread M. Taylor
Hello,

I’m not exactly certain of what you actually wish to accomplish. This is to
say, do you want to follow him in the sense that you want his tweets to be
included in your timeline? Or do you wish to receive either a text message,
containing his tweets and/or app notifications when he tweets.

Even though I have TwitterIfIc, I prefer to use the iOS official Twitter app.

Regardless, there are a couple of things you should do if you want to receive a
text message containing the contents of a tweet as soon as it happens.

1.
Login to your actual Twitter account and associate your mobile phone with your
account. Once this is done, then you can configure your SMS alerts as you
like. Mind you, this has nothing to do with in-app iOS notification alerts.

The next thing to do will be to find Donald Trumps Twitter page. His actual
Twitter handle is
@realdonaldtrump
Or you can use your web browser and go to:
https://twitter.com/realdonaldtrump

Once there, just to the left of the Follow button, there will be a profile
Settings button. Activating this button wil display several options, one of
which will say turn on notifications.

Depending upon the configuration of your SMS and/or iOS app alert settings, you
will receive a notification/SMS text message as soon as he posts them to
Twitter.

He’s been pretty prolific, these days, so be ready to receive a fair number of
notifications.

Please note that my descriptions pertain to Twitter, at large, and not to
TwitterIfic, itself.

For more detailed assistance on this topic, consult the Twitter help pages
which are extremely comprehensive.

Good luck and welcome to the global conversation.

Mark

Hello Listers,

I created a new apple ID for my old iPhone 5s. I am having a bit of
trouble when it comes to facetime on that phone. When I try and use
facetime on the 5s it says waiting for activation. I turn off
facetime and I turn it back on again. I get an error activating
facetime please try it again. I do have the use apple ID for facetime.

Hi Merv. How are you? I just was testing my apple bluetooth keyboard and i
discover that in order to perform a new line in a text message, I press the

Hope this helps! I look forward in hearing from you soon. Thanks and God bless!

Hi all,

Emoji replacement works with the onscreen braille keyboard and dictation, so
perhaps it will work with Fleksy too; I really don't know. What you do is type
a message. then switch to the Emoji keyboard. if any of the words in the
message have Emoji replacements, the word emoji shows up on the rotor. Make
sure you're turned to that, and flick up and down to find possible Emoji
replacements for words. Double-tap ones you want. In some cases, there is more
than one choice, in which case you can flick left and right through those
choices and then double-tap.

Anna,

Do you mind giving us a short refresher on the emoji replacement function in
iOS 10? I Googled it and read through a few of the hits but the descriptions
were all done from a visual perspective and seemed to use either orange or
yellow words for hits with emoji replacements. This wasn't much help. I'd love
a review or direction to a discussion of this feature from a voiceover
perspective. I also think certain things must be turned on in settings such as
a predictive keyboard but I'm not really clear about this. I tend to turn off
anything predictive or automatic where keying information in is concerned since
the algorithms used seldom come up with my intentions. I also bet that using
the Fleksy Keyboard for input messes up the emoji replacement feature.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

One thing you could try would be typing the word wombat in a message and using
the Emoji replacement feature to get it. I think that once you entered it that
way, it would be in your recently-used Emoji.

Bluetooth Keyboards and Carriage Returns

2016-12-04 Thread Merv Keck
Hi,

When sending a text with my iPhone, if I hit enter on my Logitech Bluetooth
Keyboard I send the text message. Does anyone know how to begin a new line
in a text message which would normally be done on a PC Word Processor by
hitting the enter key, without sending the message? According to several
google sources hitting shift + enter was advised. However, this did not work
for me on my iPhone 6S+ using the current IOS.

Thanks in advance,

Hello Listers,

I created a new apple ID for my old iPhone 5s. I am having a bit of
trouble when it comes to facetime on that phone. When I try and use
facetime on the 5s it says waiting for activation. I turn off facetime
and I turn it back on again. I get an error activating facetime please
try it again. I do have the use apple ID for facetime.

thanks

RE: Am I supposed to carry my cel phone during a uber ride in India when paying with Paypal?

2016-12-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Sorry, for Ueber questions you have to ask for help from others, here in Canada
there are only 2 or 3 cities where Uber is available. Currently I know they are
in Edmonton and after having been shut down in Calgary I heard they are
starting up again there this week or next week. I think maybe Montreal has Uber
and Toronto, but I can't remember if they have it or if they are fighting it.
Vancouver has so far not allowed them to come in and I doubt I'll ever see Uber
in the little town of 6,000 up in northern BC where I live.

Thanks much, Sieghard. Let me ask you this question, I have never taken Uber
before. when we take the ride, does the app give us the estimated fair? if so,
I can pay that in cash.
 thanks!

Hi,

Thought I post a few thoughts about the Philips Hue lights I recently
purchased. To start out with I can say that both my wife and I are very
impressed and happy with how this system works. I am the sort of guy who likes
to read as few instructions as possible when it comes to setting up these type
of gadgets. When I received the stuff I put in all the light bulbs and then
connected the bridge and downloaded the app. As soon as I opened it I was
guided through the setup quite nicely, but hit a bit of a snag when I was told
that in order to set up Home Kit integration I had to either scan an 8-digit
“Home Kit Code” or enter it manually. The app said the code was in the
packaging or on the accessory. I asked my wife to look and she did see it on
the bottom of the bridge and also I think in the little booklet that came in
the box, but for some reason it wouldn’t scan and since it’s only 8 digits I
just quickly entered it manually.
What I thought wasn’t explained too well was how to set up the individual
lights and rooms, it’s fairly intuitive, but the app said to make sure all
lights were turned on which means to make sure the actual wall switch was on so
they have power because of course if a light is turned off at the wall switch
it is not available to be controlled and the idea is to leave the wall switches
on and to turn on the lights either by telling SIRI to turn them off or you can
very easily use the Home app to do this and once Home integration is set up
there actually is a third page when you pull up the control centre which can
show up to 9 accessories and you can turn lights on or off simply by tapping on
the light you want to control and it turns on or off, if you swipe down or up
(rotor action) you get a “Show More Controls” and this opens up a screen where
you have a slider where you can flick up and down and control the brightness,
from 100% all the way down to I think 2%.
Anyhow, back to the setup. When I turned on all the lights they all showed up
with the name of the bulb model, e.g. Philips Hue White” or “Philips Hue
Ambient White” etc. The problem was that I have 6 of the ambient white and 3 of
the just white and I had no way to figure out which light was where. I then
decided to turn off all lights with their wall switch and only leave on, for
example, the hallway light where I happen to have just one of the 3 white
bulbs. Once Idid this all lights shows as offline except for this one and I
then went ahead and renamed it “Hallway”. Then I turned on the light at my
front door/entry way. Here are two white bulbs and I didn’t really care which
one was which and I just called them Front Door 1 and Front Door 2. Then I did
the Kitchen where I have a lamp over the dining table, a 3-bulb fixture in the
middle and a 2-bulb fixture over the sink area. I only had enough bulbs to put
in one over the sink and 2 in the middle and by using the same method as before
I named them Dining table, Kitchen 1 and Kitchen 2 and Kitchen Sink 1. Lastly I
did the bedroom where I have 1 bulb in the ceiling fixture and 1 in my wife’s
bedsight lamp, I called them Bedroom Ceiling and Jackie’s Lamp.
Once that was done I was easily able to group, for example Front Door 1 and
Front Door 2 into a room I called “Front Door”, similarly I grouped Kitchen 1
and Kitchen 2 together as “Kitchen”.
Interestingly enough I looked all over the place in the Philips Hue app and
could not really find any place where you can turn the lights on or off. I
think the app is primarily for setup, you can setup your rooms, SIRI voice
control, create scenes (or pick from existing ones) and so on. I haven’t played
around with the scenes a lot yet, but they are things like “Bright”, “Read”,
“Nightlight”, “Energize” etc. If you have ambient white bulbs you get things
like “Tropical Twilight”, “Savanna Sunset” etc. and if you have the colour
bulbs you can do even more as they can do 16 million colours.
I then tried to set up my wife’s iPhone to work with SIRI and then realized
that once I connected the Hue bridge to her phone that it disconnected it from
mine, e.g. SIRI voice control was only working either on my phone or on hers. I
then decided to do a bit of reading and learned that I had to make sure it was
working on mine and then I can invite/share people to use it. The article I
read also mentioned that the ideal setup is to use an iPad or Apple TV as a
hub. Since we do have an Apple TV Fourth Generation I set that up this morning,
I just had to make sure I was signed in with

You have access to more than ten books. I lone have at least twenty books in my
favorites. Even the ones that are shown are more then ten. You are also able to
search by title. I listened to a book which had just come out the day before by
searching for the title. So ten is not even close. I alone have read at least
fifteen in one month myself. I have been a member of tune in for six months and
can say I love it.

I believe there are many more than 10. Although they definitely just feature
ten, you can search by title and get additional selections.

Yes there is a way to do that. Go back to the book you are reading. There is a

I haven't used TuneIn Radio Premium to listen to any audio books myself
yet, but I'm pretty sure it's unlimited. It's just restricted to
streaming whatever's in the TuneIn Radio library.

Hi David,

Yes there is a way to do that. Go back to the book you are reading.
There is a button which says play enabled. If you hit that button, the
book will pick up where it left off.

Hope this helps.

2016-12-04 Thread Chip Orange
Thanks for the response Michael.

At Audible, I think you can buy one book credit a month for the $9.99 you
mention; how many books to you get via TuneIn? Unlimitted, or still the same
one book a month?

Thanks,

Chip

it says waiting for activation. I turn off facetime and I turn it back on

Low Voiceover Volume on a Call

2016-12-04 Thread Andy Baracco
When I call an automated system, such as our paratransit system, voiceover
volume is very low in comparison to the volume of the call, making it virtually
impossible to make selections necessary to complete the call. How does one go
about raising voiceover volume in relation to call volume, and getting that
setting to stick for future situations?

RE: audio books on tune in

2016-12-04 Thread Chip Orange
What kinds of audio books can you play with TuneIn? Do you mean those from
Audible, or where you have your own mp3 files, or something else?

Thanks,

Chip

Hi David,

Yes there is a way to do that. Go back to the book you are reading. There is a
button which says play enabled. If you hit that button, the book will pick up
where it left off.

Hope this helps.

measuring wifi strength with free app

2016-12-04 Thread Chip Orange
Hi all,

Just an FYI that I came across a very handy free app which helps you measure
your wifi strength and throughput at a given spot; the app is named "wifi
sweet spot" and is free, and even has an audio output mode which generates
beeps similar to a "giger counter" to indicate the current strength (note
that the label for the button to turn audio mode on/off does disappear after
the first use, but you should have no trouble identifying the button even
so). It also has a numeric constant display which gives you more presice
info.

You can use it to map out weak areas in your house, or to allow you to
reposition your wifi router and see what effect this has on signal at a
given point.

This helped me determine that repositioning my router just slightly within
the closet where it resides makes a big difference in some of the weaker
areas of my house (where I was having difficulty placing an Echo).

Hth,

Chip

2016-12-04 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

If you haven't ever had Fleksy VO, I don't think there's any way you can get it
if it's no longer in the app store. I'm pretty sure there's no way for someone
who has an app to share that app with someone else in the sense of sending them
the app and them being able to use it on their device. sharing means sending a
link, but I doubt that link will work if the app is no longer in the store.

I'd love to be proven wrong about this.

Best,
Anna

Re: emoticons on iPhone

2016-12-04 Thread Woody Anna Dresner

Philips Hue Lights - first impressions

2016-12-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

"Home Kit Code" or enter it manually. The app said the code was in the
packaging or on the accessory. I asked my wife to look and she did see it on
the bottom of the bridge and also I think in the little booklet that came in
the box, but for some reason it wouldn't scan and since it's only 8 digits I
just quickly entered it manually.
What I thought wasn't explained too well was how to set up the individual
lights and rooms, it's fairly intuitive, but the app said to make sure all
lights were turned on which means to make sure the actual wall switch was on so
they have power because of course if a light is turned off at the wall switch
it is not available to be controlled and the idea is to leave the wall switches
on and to turn on the lights either by telling SIRI to turn them off or you can
very easily use the Home app to do this and once Home integration is set up
there actually is a third page when you pull up the control centre which can
show up to 9 accessories and you can turn lights on or off simply by tapping on
the light you want to control and it turns on or off, if you swipe down or up
(rotor action) you get a "Show More Controls" and this opens up a screen where
you have a slider where you can flick up and down and control the brightness,
from 100% all the way down to I think 2%.
Anyhow, back to the setup. When I turned on all the lights they all showed up
with the name of the bulb model, e.g. Philips Hue White" or "Philips Hue
Ambient White" etc. The problem was that I have 6 of the ambient white and 3 of
the just white and I had no way to figure out which light was where. I then
decided to turn off all lights with their wall switch and only leave on, for
example, the hallway light where I happen to have just one of the 3 white
bulbs. Once Idid this all lights shows as offline except for this one and I
then went ahead and renamed it "Hallway". Then I turned on the light at my
front door/entry way. Here are two white bulbs and I didn't really care which
one was which and I just called them Front Door 1 and Front Door 2. Then I did
the Kitchen where I have a lamp over the dining table, a 3-bulb fixture in the
middle and a 2-bulb fixture over the sink area. I only had enough bulbs to put
in one over the sink and 2 in the middle and by using the same method as before
I named them Dining table, Kitchen 1 and Kitchen 2 and Kitchen Sink 1. Lastly I
did the bedroom where I have 1 bulb in the ceiling fixture and 1 in my wife's
bedsight lamp, I called them Bedroom Ceiling and Jackie's Lamp.
Once that was done I was easily able to group, for example Front Door 1 and
Front Door 2 into a room I called "Front Door", similarly I grouped Kitchen 1
and Kitchen 2 together as "Kitchen".
Interestingly enough I looked all over the place in the Philips Hue app and
could not really find any place where you can turn the lights on or off. I
think the app is primarily for setup, you can setup your rooms, SIRI voice
control, create scenes (or pick from existing ones) and so on. I haven't played
around with the scenes a lot yet, but they are things like "Bright", "Read",
"Nightlight", "Energize" etc. If you have ambient white bulbs you get things
like "Tropical Twilight", "Savanna Sunset" etc. and if you have the colour
bulbs you can do even more as they can do 16 million colours.
I then tried to set up my wife's iPhone to work with SIRI and then realized
that once I connected the Hue bridge to her phone that it disconnected it from
mine, e.g. SIRI voice control was only working either on my phone or on hers. I
then decided to do a bit of reading and learned that I had to make sure it was
working on mine and then I can invite/share people to use it. The article I
read also mentioned that the ideal setup is to use an iPad or Apple TV as a
hub. Since we do have an Apple TV Fourth Generation I set that up this morning,
I just had to make sure I was signed in with the same iCloud email as I use on
my phone and now that this is all done I was able to invite my wife, she
accepted and I gave her full permissions so now we can both use SIRI to turn
lights on or off, we can do this even if we aren't home and we can also both
use the Home app where it is a simple matter of double tapping on any
particular light or room to turn it on or off, or as I said before, we can

RE: Am I supposed to carry my cel phone during a uber ride in India when paying with Paypal?

2016-12-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Not sure if I understand correctly. You ask if you should have your phone with
you, but you also say you need the phone to pay for the ride. If you need the
phone then I guess you have to bring it, if there is a problem with the phone
using data which is being billed as roaming data, then just turn Airplane mode
on during the ride and until the time when you need the phone to pay.

Hi, list.

I plan to take a Uber ride on Friday in India as I am visiting there.
Should I carry my cel phone during the ride if I pay with Paypal? I am asking
this because I am not using my cellular data here because of high toll charges
for roaming. I use wi-fi only. I leave my iPhone fife S at home because of the
mobile snatching that is a routine in the area I am visiting. Would I need the
phone at the end of the ride because I am paying Paypal?
Thanks?
Thanks!
